HELLO, DO YOU REMEMBER US? In this episode that hopped in a time machine from November 2019, your terrible garbage hosts discuss S03E17 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Enemies." Points of interest: La Banquet d’Amelia fanfic, Angel's hobbies, foreshadowing leather of evil, a big juicy wink, essence of leprechaun, the seductive power of a wet willy, Giles eats a banana, Wes and Cordelia’s first date at Arby’s, the uptuck, no haggling only stabbing, the mayor tries to pimp out his daughter figure, Cordelia’s hormones have entered the chat, the spiderweb shirt debate, pinky rings, weirdly prudish transcripts, the 24 hour hall of records, the shackle shack is recession-proof, the Buffy/Faith kiss on the lips we couldn’t handle, Xander’s punch karma, elections in Sunnydale, and platonic bondage.
The rogue Slayer's duplicity unravels her last chance at redemption (for a while at least) as a de-souling plot goes awry and the Mayor's Ascension plan comes to light. Talk about losing Faith, eh? The Buffy Boys are packing the fishbowl in a suitcase for S03E17 "Enemies". Key Buffy Bits from this episode include: Chekhov's Stake - the earned audience misdirection of a Buffy mystery Category resistant sexual and emotional friction in Buffy/Faith power dynamic Mayor Wilkins and the haunted land of the American West "Demons after money. What ever happened to the still-beating heart of a virgin? No one has any standards anymore." This week, we see the beginnings of the end of the Buffy/Faith tentative friendship as the gang learns Angel's back and Faith's new watcher manipulates her way to a magic mitten. Then, our favorite blonde vampire is back! Spike's on a bender and looking to stir up a little trouble to mend his broken heart. Willow and Xander continue to annoy us. We also analyze Buffy’s chances of getting into college - does slaying count as an extra curricular?
This week we're covering the first half of the season finale including a beautiful moment between Willow and Oz, a controversial use of 'lover' and the epic Buffy/Faith battle in epsiode 312, 'Graduation Day' For more Hot Chicks with[out] Superpowers check out: Emily has been watching 'Man in the High Castle' on Netlflix and really enjoying the (creepy) alternate past and performance by Alexa Davalos as Juliana Crane Hannah has been watching Archer season 7 and loving the performance by the high esteemed Jessica Walter (also Lucille Bluth in Arrested Development) Haley has been enjoying the miniseries 'Rebellion' covering the event surrounding the 1916 Easter Rebellion
Buffy is in deep shit.In our first episode, Principal Snyder has drafted everyone into fundraising for band uniforms. Snyder is a tool, though, as the mayor has a nefarious plot to drug all the townsfolk with overpriced chocolate, making them regress to middle-school age, without a care in the world and forgetting what adulting is. This was a super fun episode, mostly because Anthony Stewart Head generally plays the role of Giles like he's being asked to work on Sunday without overtime. But now that he regresses to Ripper, he's actually fun to watch and engaging. And he fucks Joyce on a cop car. That's a ship I was adamantly opposed to, and then changed my mind halfway through the episode. It turns out that the whole thing was a distraction, so that some ancient demon snake can get a snack on some babies. I'm sticking by my theory that he's hurt by the fat shaming (his name means Glutton) so he eats babies instead of fully-grown humans to cut his calories. In our second episode, the truth comes out about Angel. Buffy's credibility with the group takes a massive hit, and quite frankly I agree with them. Angel is dangerous, and he's not in control of his good side. This episode wasn't as fun as the previous, but it was paced better. The reveal of the other watcher as a rogue agent and her manipulations of the group played out well, and the wounds are not healed at the end of the day. I wonder what this will mean for the Buffy/Faith relationship.
This week our hosts discuss the feasibility of werewolf restraints, debate a problematic (or great?) coming out scene, and continue to fall deeply in love with Woz in episode 215 "Phases" For more Hot Chicks With[out] Superpowers check out: Hannah thinks you should all take a moment to appreciate Hillary Clinton as the first badass woman to be nominated for President by a major party. Emily wants you to re-watch "Legally Blonde" because it is the movie's 15th anniversary and Elle Woods is a great feminist icon (and practitioner of shine theory). Haley recommends you watch the SyFy show "Wynonna Earp" (played by Melanie Scrofano) for a Buffy/Faith hybrid heroine dominating the American Wild West.
Paul Maki from the QN Podcast, returns for a viewing of episode three from Buffy the Vampire Slayer's third season, "Faith, Hope & Trick". Buffy is feeling guilty about killing Angel, making the dating scene very difficult for her, especially when fellow Sunnydale student, Scott Hope asks her out. Meanwhile, a new Slayer seems to be crashing the non-party that is Buffy's life, form of East Coast spitfire, Faith. To top it all off, a well-appointed vampire by the name of Mr. Trick also blows into town, bringing along a big, gruesome monster who's got revenge on the agenda. Coincidence? Yeah, we didn't think so either. Please join Paul and I as we discuss the idea of friendship rings, flashbacks within dream sequences and the acting progression of a promising young girl named Eliza Dushku. Perhaps you've heard of her. Remember to listen for the preemptive countdown before starting the episode on your DVD.
