Blair St. Clair steps Behind The Rope. Blair is here to mention it all. Blair talks their early days of drag, early inspirations from Broadway (can we say Legally Blonde) and how Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf - and their Mom - helped create and shape Blair St. Clair into the powerhouse performer we see before us today. Blair talks Drag Race, All Stars, RuPaul and just how far the show and they have come since those early days in Season Ten. Speaking of coming far, Blair is about to make their New York City Cabaret debut in Legally Blair at New York City's very own “The Green Room” directed by Countess Luann's former cab director himself. Blair talks musical inspirations and what we can all expect in this soon to be epic two night performance. Speaking of Countess Lu, we talk Reality TV a la Real Housewives, Love Is Blind, F Boy Island, Are You The One, Too Hot To Handle and many other classics. Finally, Blair opens up about dating in the new year and just what is next for this Drag Race alum who does not seem to be slowing down any time soon. @blairst.clair @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope BROUGHT TO YOU BY: NOM NOM - trynom.com/velvet (50% Off Your No Risk Two Week Trial) INNOVATIVE EXTRACTS - ie-cbd.com (Use Promo Code VELVET for 40% Off Your First Order) KEEPSTER - keepster.co/velvet (Use Code VELVET For 25% Off) PELOTON - onepeloton.com/home-trial (Try Peloton Tread Risk Free With a 30 Day Home Trial) MTV's “THE REAL FRIENDS OF WEHO” (Do Not Miss An All New Episode This Friday, January 27th at 9/8 Central on MTV, After RuPaul's Drag Race) MTV's “JERSEY SHORE” (Make Sure To Watch Jersey Shore Family Vacation, New Season Thursday January 26th at 8/7 Central on MTV.) Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed. This week, we discuss LEGALLY BLONDE. We share our mutual love for the 2001 hit starring Reese Witherspoon, ponder an alternate universe where Elle is played by Tara Reid, Lucky Girl Syndrome, M3gan, My Twin dolls, and why Elle Woods is the ultimate post-feminist icon. Rob Mills is no stranger to putting on a show. From Australian Idol and The Singing Bee to Dancing With The Stars, Celebrity Apprentice and 5 years on Neighbours, to name a few... Australia just can't get enough of Millsy sprawled across our TV screens. In the world of musical theatre Millsy has starred in Grease, Hairspray, Legally Blonde, Wicked and lo and behold not only did he play Sam in Ghost, but Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar... Talk about big shoes to fill. Sticking with the theme of putting on a show (the name of his recently released book on manhood, mates and mental health) we talk about all things stepping on stage vs the performance we tend to fall into putting on in our everyday lives. The versions of blokeyness and what it's like for blokes in today's world to navigate what it means to be a man, where to find role models and how can we continue to open up the conversations with and for men to better connect and create social change towards better mental health and better communities. In the 24th episode of Legally Blonde & Blind, Marissa shares how she learned to accept and embrace her status as a nondriver. Tune in to learn about bioptics, low vision driving regulations, and ways to support those without a license. Driving should not be the only way to attain independence and freedom! “Being a nondriver does not mean you will be any less independent. It does not mean you will be a passenger in your mom's car for the rest of your life. Thousands of blind people have found their way, and so will you.” Connect with Legally Blonde & Blind! Was ist hier passiert? Tane McClure is the daughter of actor Doug McClure, who is best known as "Trampas" from the western series "The Virginian". Tane became an actress at an early age playing the part of an orphan in "The Virginian" episode "Small Parades". Tane has since acted in over 50 films including playing Reese Witherspoon's mom in "Legally Blonde", and she has produced, directed, and edited over 100 hours of content for many major companies and networks around the world. Tane's mother, Faye Brash, who is of Hawaiian/Polynesian descent, was a singer, and her grandmother, Mae Brash was also a gifted Opera singer. From an early age, Tane was inspired by her Hawaiian heritage and their love of music. With her father Doug McClure, an actor and her mother a singer... Music, Film and Television came together for Tane in many of her aspirations. Being confident with music, sound, picture, editing, and graphics has enabled Tane to be one of the very best in her field as a director, producer and editor. "As an independent film director, I feel that often, the most interesting scenes in a film include the unexpected moments that were never actually specifically written in the script. When an actor takes a beat or two longer to get his emotions together while the camera is rolling, but the scene has not technically begun. Sometimes those quiet moments are the most honest and fresh. He is not "acting", he is simply "feeling", and THAT to me, can be magic on film." Tane McClure is the author of a new book: "Rescue Heart: A Love Story", based on a feature film screenplay also written by Tane. We're joined by Shannon Wolf, a British writer and poet currently making her home in the U.S., who picked this episode's book after hearing us on a previous episode ask, hypothetically, whether there might be a novelization of the movie Legally Blonde. Shannon, a superfan of the film, knew it was actually based on a novel, though the story of that novel's publication is a bit of a twisty one. And while Amanda Brown's book lays out the basic plot and character arcs that we all know and love from the film, the tone of the novel is a lot less cheerful and winning. We are celebrating Turkey Day here on Made You Watch… (a podcast) and for this episode, Adam has recommended Melanie watch the Thanksgiving classic Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, a film she was not allowed to watch as a kid due to the rapid-fire F-Bombs dropped. This John Hughes comedy stars the late great John Candy and the always funny Steve Martin as they attempt to get home for Thanksgiving. Hilarity ensues in the madcap flick. Kathleen Martinez is an immigration lawyer and TikTok star, known for her loud sense of style that brought her fame as the ‘real life Legally Blonde'. Kathleen talks about the prevalence of ‘hazing' amongst senior attorneys, the biggest myths around immigration, and the benefits of wearing pink in the workplace. “They're still living in that generation where they think that you cannot be both, that you can't be feminine and smart or they care about things that don't really matter that are not relevant to your ability to perform your job, or your character, or your integrity. ” - Kathleen Martinez What We Cover: Why Kathleen became a lawyer. This time on the show, Adam goes hell-bent for leather with his recommendation for Mel, the 1994 comedy Airheads. A rock band accidentally takes a radio station hostage when they try to get their demo played on the air. This is one of the most unappreciated '90s comedies that needs more love. So grab a hot dog and some moist cookies for todays not so Halloweeny Halloween episode of Gay Area.
Grab your long johns and fire up the flamethrower because Adam is recommending Melanie and special guest Michael (Mel's younger brother) watch John Carpenter's The Thing, Adam's all-time favorite horror film. This movie has it all. Thrills. Chills. Kurt Russell being a badass. Keith David not taking any crap. Wilford Brimley losing his mind with an axe. On this episode, I'm joined by my girlfriend Jessica Schloth as we play another round of movie exchange! Shows me a movie I haven't seen, and vice versa.
When Reese Witherspoon was in rehearsals for her lead role in the 2005 film Walk the Line, she wanted to quit–every day. But she went on to win the Oscar for her performance as June Carter Cash. Since then, she's gone from playing iconic roles in films (Legally Blonde, Election, Water for Elephants) to also producing and starring in her own TV shows and movies (Little Fires Everywhere, Big Little Lies, Wild). Reese talks to Adam about how she's built confidence by facing her doubts head on, and shares why acknowledging what she doesn't know has helped her found a company–which was recently acquired for $900 million–that finally puts women at the center of their stories. After recording this 30 days ago I finally have permission to post it.
The listeners have spoken and we're watching Legally Blonde but before that we've got two big announcements to make! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
What do you say to 90 minutes of primo late-'70s Sam Elliot parading around in short-shorts and being an all-around macho stud? We say "Gimme, gimme, gimme!" We watched Lifeguard (1976) with the amazing Love Connie and we're trying to grow out our mustaches by sheer will power. Sam Elliot plays career lifeguard Rick and he's our hero. He's got a swinging bachelor pad, a sweet car and pretty much lives the life of a gay man... only you know, with women. If you're not familiar with Sam Elliot's earlier work - you're welcome. This movie is so horny we need a moment to collect ourselves. We talk with Connie about seeing this movie way too young and Sam making us all feel some type of way, and Connie spills the tea on her time on set of the iconique comedy Legally Blonde! Speedos, mustaches and Bend 'n Snap origin stories - oh my!
