You do not have to stay stuck in pain, trauma, anxiety, and depression. There is hope for you because healing starts beyond the brain. Healing begins with the power of your mind. Everyone experiences struggle, pain, or heartache at some point in their life journey. The question is what you choose to do with it. Do you let it keep you stuck? Or do you acknowledge it, accept it, and tap into the power of your mind? Because healing starts beyond the brain and its stories, which most often are not truths. The Connection Between Neuroscience and Faith Exploring the connection between neuroscience and faith reveals a path to healing anxiety. Bridging the Mind-Brain Gap Traditionally, science has viewed the mind and brain as synonymous. However, contemporary research challenges this notion. The mind, through conscious thought and intention, can alter the brain's pathways. Heal Your Brain with Gratitude Gratitude plays a pivotal role in healing your brain. Training the Brain for Resilience To heal your brain, it's crucial to train it to be resilient. Empowering Change Through Thought Change starts with recognizing the power of your thoughts. The brain is 80% more likely to think negative thoughts than positive, this is negativity bias. In addition, the brain cannot determine what is true or false. Transformative Healing Through Acceptance Acceptance of life's challenges is another step in healing. It's not about denying pain but acknowledging it as part of the human experience. The Importance of Building Community Healing extends beyond the individual, emphasizing the importance of community and connection. Embrace Inner Hope and Faith Hope and faith are integral to healing. Heal your brain, enjoy your life. Breaking through anxiety and pain starts beyond the brain by focusing on the power of your mind, renewing it, and transforming your beliefs about what's possible for you through grace and faith. Faith, hope, and love are beautiful words—but for many of us, they don't feel simple or safe. When they've been wielded to control, silence, or shame, these core concepts can carry weight, confusion, and even fear. In the wake of spiritual abuse, what once promised life can feel distorted or out of reach. Today, Dan and Rachael step tenderly and courageously into what it means to reclaim faith, hope, and love after harm. Rather than treating faith as certainty, hope as optimism, or love as obedience, they reframe these virtues as deeply human, relational realities: faith as trust, hope as imagination for a future shaped by goodness, and love as a force grounded in honor, freedom, and delight. Together, they name how spiritual abuse exploits fear and shame to protect power—fracturing our ability to trust ourselves, others, and even God. Healing doesn't begin with forcing a set of dogmatic beliefs, but with safety: learning to listen to our bodies, recover discernment, and engage relationships where difference and nuance are welcomed. This conversation is for anyone longing to rediscover a faith that makes room for personhood, courage, and love that does not demand fear in return. ===== About the Allender Center Podcast: For over a decade, the Allender Center Podcast has offered honest, thoughtful conversations about the deep work of healing and transformation. Mercylyn Odibo, author of X-Rays of Little Hopes, opens up about her powerful journey from heartbreak to healing and creative purpose. Once unsure if her book would ever be published, she now celebrates a story that connects faith, love, and human resilience. Her novel centers on Prue, a woman who experiences betrayal, disillusionment, and profound loss before rediscovering herself and her faith. Through Prue's eyes, readers witness the pain of misplaced trust, the desperation to be loved, and the beauty of rebuilding after devastation. The story reflects Mercylyn's desire to help others who have felt broken find meaning, courage, and hope again. In the episode, Mercylyn explains how X-Rays of Little Hopes was born from her longtime habit of journaling and her passion for storytelling. She began with the title itself, which symbolized how even the tiniest spark of hope can light the darkest moments. The novel took years to shape, combining her own reflections with the experiences of others who inspired her. She wanted to write something more than a simple romance, creating a story that tackles real emotions and social issues—betrayal, loss of trust, false expectations in relationships, and the danger of ignoring red flags for the sake of love. The result is a faith-based novel that feels genuine and relatable, not preachy. While rooted in Christian values, it is also designed for readers who want a good story about imperfect people finding redemption. Quotes: “The best, most beautiful thing anybody can do for themselves is be who they are. Love yourself and do the best you can.” “There's always a yes for every no, and not giving up is key.” “Don't let anyone define who you are... Pray every day, because good things come out of something bad.” Resources: X-rays of Little Hopes are available on Amazon Follow Mercylyn Odibo on Facebook Discover more of Mercylyn's inspiring stories

Where do you turn when heartache threatens to take over your whole life? This week, Dr Alison is joined by Amber Smith to talk about her journey from crushing grief to quiet, hard-won hope. Many of you know part of her story: the unthinkable loss of her three-year-old son, River, in 2019. Together, they talk about the raw reality of grief; how faith can be both anchor and wrestle, how a marriage can survive when each person's pain looks different, and why welcoming joy again is not a betrayal of what you've lost. If you've ever faced heartbreak or walked alongside someone in deep pain, this conversation will meet you right where you are - whether you're on your own bathroom floor or standing beside someone who is. In this episode, we explore: Amber's story of losing her son, River, and the spiritual transformation that followed The “before and after” shift that tragedy brings to faith and identity How she and her husband, Granger Smith, fought for their marriage Why grief can quietly become an idol How holding space for grief can bring a family closer This episode blends honesty, tenderness, and practical wisdom, exploring what it means to choose life and love while discovering God's presence in moments when hope feels distant.
Richard C. Edgley talks about the powerful force of hope rooted in faith in the Atonement. With Christ, we can truly hope for all things. Click here to see the speech page.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On Monday, we looked at faith. And on Wednesday we zoomed in for a closer glimpse at hope. Faith is about right now. Hope is about tomorrow. Today, we take a closer look at God's gift to us of love and discover the reason why it's the greatest of all of them.
Faith, hope and love are often described as virtues, a series of behaviors we develop over time with practice. While that's true, it's easy then to miss what Paul has to say about them here in this verse. All three of these are precious gifts. Specifically, their God's gifts to you and me. And while they're connected, each one of them is unique. Last Monday we talked about faith. Today, let's take a closer look at hope.
Jason and Ben land their conversations on 1 Corinthians 13 discussing "the greatest of these..."
Perhaps you've been to a wedding in recent weeks or watched one take place in a movie. If so, you may have heard the familiar reading from 1 Corinthians 13:13 in which Paul says, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." However, this passage is more than aspirational poetry. These are precious gifts from God. Join us as we take a closer look at all three - beginning with faith.
