Friction is the force that opposes relative motion between to surfaces in contact. Even with this opposition friction isn't always negative, in fact it creates energy. Energy essential to things like engines, hydro energy, and even the creative process. Cam Gillette embraces this idea, constantly melding genres, collaborations, and melting expectations with his project Smoke From All The Friction. Looking to inspire and provoke your mind while drawing you in with industrial electro pop vibes, Cam writes about the human condition and the friction created by going against the grain. Cam Gillette and Ina Carino are the Raleigh, North Carolina-based group Smoke From All The Friction (@smokefromallthefriction). Cam is a former member of the band Ambits, and is fresh off a national tour with indie rock group Rookie of the Year. Ina is a recent graduate of the Eastern Carolina University School of Music, and has dozens of performances under her belt. In this episode, they talk about how they experiment with technology to create new sounds, how they consider the impact they can have on their community and further, the story behind their new single ‘Cross & Tattoo,’ how they’re able to reach out and collaborate with other artists from completely other genres, and much more.
