This week on Bringing the Heat With Trey Lyle, Caleb Barnes joins Lyle to focus on the biggest takeaways from the race at Iowa Speedway and talk the hottest topics of the week so far. One driver who has been a not-so-hot topic is Tyler Reddick, after a mistake took the No. 45 out of contention in the opening laps over the weekend. While Barnes believes the panic level is pretty high for the team, these next few races are key for Reddick to regroup and try to rebuild some confidence before the start of the Chase. With just three races left before the cutoff, Barnes and Lyle debate the drivers with the most to lose — or gain — when it comes to qualifying for the field of 16 drivers. That includes some concern about Shane van Gisbergen, along with some hope for some of the Ford drivers to use their short track speed to close on the cut line. Is Corey Heim vs. Carson Hocevar the Next Great NASCAR Rivalry? It might be a little too early to say yes. This week, fans found out that Corey Heim will not be eligible to compete for Rookie of the Year in 2027 due to a new regulation NASCAR is putting in place to determine who can qualify for the award. Barnes believes it's an unnecessary addition, while Lyle wonders if the Cup Series will even have anyone else available to run for 2027 Rookie of the Year. This week's news also brings a number of schedule announcements, including the return of the All Star Race to North Wilkesboro Speedway. While Barnes is sad to see the points race taken away, he thinks it's an opportunity to go to work on the short track package. Meanwhile, Lyle shares his excitement that the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series is returning to the historic venue in 2027. This week's soundbite comes from Christopher Bell, who reiterates some of his frustration with finishing in the runner-up spot yet again. Barnes and Lyle review if Bell could have handled the final run to the finish any differently at Iowa, and what the remainder of the season could look like if the No. 20 team does wind up breaking through to get to victory lane in the next few weeks. Watch Bringing the Heat With Trey Lyle here or listen wherever you get your podcasts.

Send us Fan MailWe invest heavily in training salespeople to serve customers. So why aren't we investing just as intentionally in preparing leaders to serve our people? Abby Cornelius - Leadership Advisor at Elevate Actually and a 20+ year homebuilding veteran - joins Anya Chrisanthon for a conversation about the leadership training gap in homebuilding and what to do about it. And this one is personal: Abby was Anya's sales trainer at NVR, where Anya was named Rookie of the Year for her cohort. From intern to executive Abby got into homebuilding as a fluke - a finance major whose cousin talked her into an internship. She never left. Sales, national sales training, sales leadership, nine months in land acquisition, division president training, and Director of Sales. Her takeaway from sitting in every seat: when you understand how the whole operation works together, you show up better in the seat you're in.The training stopped As a salesperson, Abby went through a rigorous year-long program with ongoing coaching. Then she got promoted to leadership and it was: here's your team, go figure it out. Sitting in ops meetings Googling terms under the table, no tenured leader to lean on, and a generic two-day management course that didn't connect to homebuilding. It felt hard for about a year - and it's the same story she kept hearing from every leader around her.Breaking out of firefighting mode Only three things should derail your day: sales, starts, and closings - today, not future ones. Everything else needs a cadence. Abby shares the systems that saved her: scheduled one-on-ones that teach your team to save non-urgent items, and building processes around repeat pain points - like her offer sheet that ended the scrambled texts and half-baked emails. Building self-reliant teams You teach people how to treat you. If your team brings everything to you, you've become the bottleneck. Abby's tips: don't answer on the first ring for non-urgent items, ask "what have you tried?" before giving answers, and borrow her sister's kindergarten classroom rule - "three before me."Leadership is stewardship When a neighbor asked Abby's husband for parenting advice, he said: "It's only hard for the good ones." The same is true of leadership. If it feels heavy, that means you care. Your job isn't to keep things moving today - it's to care for your people and your business long-term.Leadership Elevated Everything Abby wished someone taught her sooner, built into homebuilding-specific leadership development: a two-day workshop for entire operational teams - sales, construction, purchasing, marketing, finance - plus a six-month virtual cohort limited to 10 leaders, launching in September. Because the ROI on well-equipped leaders shows up in margin, retention, and days under construction. One piece of advice for this week Pick one. One thing you want your team to get better at - and triple down on it. Scattered effort never gets the depth of solution you need.Connect with Abby on LinkedIn, subscribe to her free weekly LinkedIn newsletter Leadership Edited, and learn more about Leadership Elevated at elevateactually.com - click Work With Abby.About Anewgo Anewgo is an all-in-one new home sales and marketing platform. Time for an Upgrade? The honeymoon period doesn't last forever in retirement. The free Retirement Drift assessment takes five minutes. It's not a report card. No right answers. If you want to get started on working on the new Future You, that's exactly what the Designing Your New Life in Retirement program is built for. Six group sessions with 6 to 10 people doing the same, and a structured way to move from putting it off to designing. The September cohort is enrolling now with two scheduling options. For John Fisher, the answer was not reinvention for its own sake. It was the chance to keep growing, serving, solving problems, and feeling fully engaged. Before becoming a Ranger, John spent more than 20 years at Sony Pictures Television, including as supervising producer of The Young and the Restless, where he won six Emmy Awards. His earlier career included work with HBO and key roles in launching MTV, VH-1, MTV Europe, and The Comedy Channel. His next chapter didn’t pop up overnight. It grew from volunteering. One opportunity led to another: EMT certification, a seasonal Ranger-Assistant role, ranger training, and eventually the Río Hondo Basic Police Academy. There, surrounded by much younger recruits, John became California's oldest graduate of a basic Police Academy, class president and was voted Most Inspirational. In this conversation, John explains how he handled the demands of the academy, why age brought advantages as well as limitations, and how three simple criteria (learning something new, helping people, and having fun) guided his choices. His story is dramatic, but his approach is accessible. Becoming a Ranger may not be your thing, but what small experiment might open your own unexpected next chapter? John Fisher joins us from California. _________________________ Bio John Fisher is a Ranger with the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, a local park agency with extensive property in the Santa Monica Mountains. He joined the MRCA as a volunteer in 2024. After attending the Rio Hondo Basic Police Academy in 2025, Fisher completed field training and became a generalist ranger in 2026. Prior to the MRCA, Fisher worked for Sony Pictures Television for over 20 years as a supervising producer for “The Young and the Restless,” where he won six Emmy Awards. Earlier, Fisher worked on the NBC Enterprises syndicated daytime program, “The John Walsh Show.” He spent 11 years with HBO as a production executive, where he supervised a wide range of programming, including “Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher,” “The Chris Rock Show,” “Reverb,” and “Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist.” His experience encompasses key roles in launching MTV, VH-1, MTV Europe, and The Comedy Channel, as well as numerous producing and consulting credits for broadcast, pay cable, syndication, corporate, and home video projects. A longtime member of the Television Academy, Fisher has served on the Daytime Peer Group Executive Committee and the Daytime Awards Committee. He has been involved with community and educational endeavors and has volunteered with his homeowners’ association, Syracuse University's alumni advisory network, and Boston University's Los Angeles program. An avid cyclist, he has been a member of several advocacy groups and a volunteer trail maintainer. Additionally, he continues to volunteer with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue team based in Santa Clarita and as a civilian volunteer for the Los Angeles Police Department through his membership in the California Emergency Mobile Patrol (CEMP). Fisher also belongs to the Mountain Bike Unit in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and is a volunteer for the National Park Service and California State Parks. A native of Baltimore, Fisher holds a master’s degree from Syracuse University's Newhouse School and an undergraduate degree from Towson University. __________________________ Other Retirement Podcast Conversations You’ll Love The Third Act – Josh Sapan Mattering…in Retirement – Jennifer Breheny Wallace What If You Pivot Instead of Retiring? – Scott Siff ___________________________ About The Retirement Wisdom Podcast There are many podcasts on retirement, often hosted by financial advisors with their own financial motives, that cover the money side of the street. The Carolina Panthers training camp news cycle just keeps rolling, and this roundup pulls together every major voice from the building this week. Head coach Dave Canales opens things up addressing the Haynes King hamstring situation from the preseason opener, confirming King will be evaluated week to week and won't play against Buffalo. Canales also breaks down the plan to get the Panthers' starters onto the field for 10-20 snaps this week, touches on the offensive line's next-man-up depth with JT Carter, Isaiah Glass, and Jake Kurhan all cross-training at guard, and heaps praise on Brad Idzik's first outing as play-caller — including how the operation held up when the headset cut out mid-drive.From there, Bryce Young steps to the podium and talks about what it means to have a "growth mindset" heading into his third training camp, staying locked into the process rather than looking backward at last year's slow September starts. He also touches on Devin Lloyd's leadership presence on defense, the trust building with a young receiver room, and the standard Luke Kuechly and Julius Peppers set just by being around the building.Tight end Mitchell Evans weighs in on Bryce Young's noticeably increased comfort and confidence compared to last year, previews what a healthy return against Buffalo means for him after missing the Hall of Fame Game, and dives into how the Panthers' 13-personnel packages (three tight ends on the field) create mismatches up and down the defense — a wrinkle borrowed straight from Rams film. The roundup also includes Bryce Young's sit-down with NFL Network, where he opens up about his growth from year one to year two, the chemistry building with his receivers and offensive line, and gets a great endorsement of his "killer" competitive streak straight from Tetairoa McMillan. Speaking of T-Mac, his own NFL Network segment covers the pressure of following up a Rookie of the Year campaign, while Jaycee Horn breaks down the impact of the Panthers' new pass-rush additions and what it meant to watch Luke Kuechly and Drew Brees get inducted into the Hall of Fame in person.Closing things out is a look back at Luke Kuechly's full Hall of Fame enshrinement speech — a heartfelt, at times emotional tribute to teammates, coaches, and the entire Panthers organization that shaped his career, and a reminder of the standard current Panthers are still chasing.Whether you're tracking the QB competition, the O-line shuffle, or just want the full pulse of camp in one place, this is your one-stop breakdown of everything Panthers this week. Subscribe for daily training camp coverage all the way through the season.
