Episode 12 picks up right where we left off and I interview Chris David Garcia, the creator of the Major Level Creative CONNECT sports conference as well as the Creative Director for the Houston Astros.I met Chris about 3 years ago and we have been friends ever since and I’ve been fortunate enough to have been able to join three MLC Connect Conferences in the past and look forward to the continued success of the conference as they hit the 5-year anniversary mark this June. Chris is an extremely talented graphic designer but more than that is his personality and character which are phenomenal in the way he interacts and treats others. He is a very selfless individual that is always looking for ways to help others become the best version of themselves and improve their own craft.Furthermore, I feel Chris has been a disruptor in the creative world and his insightful ideas and passion for always bringing your best has led to the creation of probably the best conference I have ever been to. It’s intimate. It’s personal. It’s educational. It’s fun. Top notch speakers surrounded by some of the most talented people in the sports design world. It’s incredible! Those reasons are exactly why I told Chris prior to launching the podcast that he has to be a guest as I knew he’d be able to bring the fire as well as some great stories. He didn’t disappoint in this episode at all!You can find Chris online:@chrisdavidgfx – Twitter@chrisdavidgfx – Instagramchrisdavidg – LinkedinMajor Level Creative Conference info:Mlcconnect.com@mlcconnect – Twitter@mlcconnect – Instagram About the Host:It’s hard to write these things about yourself but I’m just a very curious guy that wants to learn as much as I can about the world and the people in it. With a new found motivation many years ago to achieve certain goals and push beyond status quo, I wanted to speak with people that were breaking out of their comfort zones and try to capture how they were doing it and what insight could be shared to help others. I hope you all will continue along on the journey with me and share any feedback you have.If you enjoyed this episode or others please consider leaving a review on iTunes or whichever Podcast platform you listen on.Here’s where you can find me:Website: https://www.brianondrako.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brianondrako/Twitter: https://twitter.com/brianondrakoFacebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/justgetstartedpodcast/ Thank you very much!Brian See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

“When you get to work in pro sports, these players are their showcase...the message, putting people in the seats, getting people interested in the team and buying merchandise comes before cool graphics.” On this week’s episode, Aaron Masik joined the podcast. Aaron is a senior graphic designer at The Upper Deck Company. Prior to Upper Deck, Aaron had stints in-house at the San Antonio Spurs and the San Diego Padres before making the move into consumer products. We discuss Aaron’s big break into the sports industry, what it’s like working in a consistently winning organization such as the Spurs (including an interaction with Coach Pop himself), as well as the differences between working with the NBA versus the MLB. We touch on some of the pain points working in sports as a creative person and have a very real & raw conversation on the frustrations that are prevalent when one makes the decision to work in team sports; including the way our personal and career values change over time and how sometimes it might be best to move on. Lastly, Aaron gives us some insight into working at Upper Deck as we discuss design & printing processes, timelines, as well as the passion of the sports collectibles industry and how it has had a reawakening. "If there's ever an idea and you realize there is an opportunity there, opportunity has a shelf life. You gotta do it. You gotta do it quick." This week on the podcast, Chris David Garcia of the Houston Astros joins us. Chris has been creative director of the Houston Astros where he has been working for 8+ years. He is also the founder of the upcoming sports design conference, Major Level Creative Connect (MLC Connect). Chris discusses his path to the Houston Astros and how important it is for in-house creatives to make clear business cases to their superiors when it comes to defining a career ladder and advancement within sports organizations. We also touch on the founding of Major Level Creative Connect and discuss why Chris pursued the endeavor to scratch his own itch of talking with other creative professionals working in-house that may be too busy to network outside of their organization. Lastly, Chris tells us where we can register for the conference, gives some insight on who will be speaking this year and discusses the casual, open-source atmosphere of MLC Connect.
