I didn't think I'd do a coal country episode when I started the podcast, but Shamokin kept coming up (mostly because listener Jay Zalewski kept telling me about things in Shamokin), and here we are. But don't worry; Jay was right, this is a town worth a visit.  I interviewed Eric Kuijpers, a Dutch native who's been in the US for many years, and now owns and runs the Covered Bridge Brewhaus. We'll talk about his love for Dutch and Belgian beers, his micro-scale distilling, and why his flagship beer is named Ho-Butt.  We make other stops: the other brewery in town, Lost Mine-D,  and have an ESB. You know I love a good hot dog, like they have at the Coney Island Lunch, opened in 1918! I filled my cooler at Fisher's Boston Pierogi, and picked up some meaty snacks at Masser's Farm Market and Irish Isle Provisions. I met up with Jay and had drinks at Oliver's Cigars and Spirits, and the Heritage Restaurant & Pub, then enjoyed some pizza and camaraderie at James' Pizza, an old-time corner bar and pizza joint.  I learned a lot about the Coal Country, and I'll share it with you. But you really should go yourself, and meet the friendly inhabitants. Good bunch! What else? In 2025, Lafayette High School's Xavier Richardson reached a season that had been years in the making.The Lexington, Kentucky senior didn't rise quickly or cleanly. His path was marked by races that fell apart, progress that stayed hidden, and belief that came late. By the time this year arrived, Richardson wasn't chasing a breakout. He was waiting to see if patience would finally pay him back.The results followed. During his junior track season in the spring of 2025, despite being known primarily as a 1600m and 3200m runner, Richardson stepped down to the 800m at the Kentucky state meet. He won it. His first individual state title.The breakthrough showed up across the board. PRs of 1:53 in the 800m, 4:09 in the 1600m, and 8:58 in the 3200m.The fall confirmed the shift. By the time cross country rolled around, he carried that momentum, running 14:44 for the 5K XC in his season debut. He went on to place second individually at the state cross country meet while helping his team secure the championship. Racing for something bigger than himself. Weeks later, Richardson finished runner-up at NXR Southeast, earning his first trip to Nike Cross Nationals. Anna and Raven discuss how groups of friends may make a date less stressful and more natural, leading to a better relationship. Yay or Nay?  Anna's experienced one of the scariest phones calls a mother could get. Her daughter got into her first car accident. Everything ended up being okay, but Anna had to explain the insanity of this story!  Anna's dreams were crushed when she learned she would never be able to be a Rockette. She never grew past 5'2. Raven on the other hand has his dreams crushed when his parents told him he was not allowed to go to space camp. They then shortly after sent his younger brother.  After being influenced by her friend, Anna got a spray tan for a birthday party. Not only was her tan 10 shades too dark; but she also ended up saving $20 by only getting half her body tanned. Not the best decision she has ever made.  CONGRATULATIONS DOLLY! Our plump pup champion goes to dolly. Dolly is a squishy 12 year old PUDDLE of a bulldog who sleeps 22 hours a day on her toddler bed throne.  When she isn't sleeping, she is a ravenous eater! (regardless to her many allergies) Some of Dolly's favorite foods are, steak, spiral ham, cheese, pancakes, and literally WHATEVER she can get her chunky paws on.  Dolly celebrated "A Dozen Years of Dolly" this past summer where she enjoyed an ice cream sundae. Congrats Dolly! Every week Anna and Raven invite a middle school student to participate in Middle Schooler News! They report the headline news and Anna and Raven comment on it! She thinks it's selfish for him take a solo vacation and it just feels weird. Former Steelers Super Bowl champion Bryant McFadden joined the show. BMac isn't afraid of the Steelers future because they have proven multiple times they can get the hire right. Bryant is looking for a ‘leader of men' more than an X's & O's savant when it comes to a head coach. The guys asked BMac about some of the HC candidates out there and what he loves/hates about their work. BMac talked about the lack of playmakers in the offense and why that has continued to be a shortcoming over the last few seasons. He said Kenneth Gainwell needs to come back and the QB is the elephant in the room. Bryant likes what they have brewing on the offensive line. BMac isn't sure what is in the future for Cam Heyward, but he doesn't think Cam ever plays anywhere else. BMac predicted Chris Shula would be the next head coach.

CHAMP BAILEY BIORoland "Champ" Bailey, Jr. is the Founder of Bailey Companies & Investments, Inc. While best known as a Pro Football Hall of Famer and one of the greatest cornerbacks to ever play football, Champ now spends his time as a founder, investor, speaker and endorser of companies. During his playing days for the University of Georgia, Washington Redskins, and Denver Broncos, Champ built a stellar reputation as a diligent and detailed leader who modeled high-performance. He continues to take that same approach with his business interests. As a privately held company, "Team Bailey" is involved with numerous entities. Champ's vision is to make a lasting impact in the community by creating sustainable jobs that change lives. He still holds two NFL records with 203 career pass deflections and being selected to 12 Pro Bowls as a cornerback. He was tabbed for the NFL All-Decade Team of the 2000s and chosen to the Broncos 50th Anniversary Team. Champ was rewarded for his excellence by being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2019. In all, Bailey played in 215 career games with the Redskins (1999-2003) and the Broncos (2004-2013). He amassed a total of 908 tackles (812 solo), intercepted 52 passes which he returned for 464 yards and four touchdowns, recorded three sacks, and made six fumble recoveries.
