In his NFL Week 6 ‘Overreaction Monday' segment Rich weighs in on whether or not the Raiders are the best team in the AFC West, if the Ravens are the best team in the AFC, how long the Cardinals can remain unbeaten, if Urban Meyer's Week 6 win was enough to save his job, if the Giants should move on from Daniel Jones, and if we'll see Cam Newton as an NFL starting QB again this season. ESPN NFL & College Football Analyst Dan Orlovsky tells Rich why he's very concerned for the Browns following their blowout loss to the Arizona Cardinals and why the Baker Mayfield-Odell Beckham Jr. dynamic has been far from dynamic on the field, which team among the Cardinals, Rams, Cowboys and Buccaneers is the best team in the NFC right now, if the Chiefs, Vikings and Steelers have turned a corner with their Week 6 Wins, how the 49ers and Saints will look coming off their bye weeks, why the Cincinnati Bearcats are the best College Football team he's seen this season, and what the Michigan Wolverines must do on offense to finish the season unbeaten. Rich reacts to Aaron Rodgers vociferously trolling Bears fans after scoring a touchdown at Soldier Field this week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
1. Red Wings opener Is it still too early to judge the Red Wings solely on stats and standings? Yeah, it is. But it's time for a look, a leap, and perhaps a little luck.In year three of the Steve Yzerman-led rebuild, they're taking a closer look at their young talent, and hoping for a leap. The Wings certainly will be younger, deeper defensively and presumably better, whether the record reflects it or not. The process has passed the weeding-out stage and is headed toward the finding-out stage, and it's time to push it a bit.2. MSU UM & CFBBoth Teams are 6-0 and heading for a showdown on Devils Night3. 1. Lions fall to 0-5; lose rags for seasonThis morning on Stony and Jansen Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell was done crying, but he went on to elaborate on the Lions only good receiver. Tyrell Williams was concussed in week 1 and its been almost a full month. But it is unknown when he will be able to return to the field.Per The Detroit News-Lions coach Dan Campbell said in his weekly interview Tuesday on 97.1 WXYT-FM that Williams is not close to returning from the brain injury that has sidelined him the past four games.“That doesn't look good right now,” Campbell said when asked about Williams' availability for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. “I would say that's off in the distance for sure.”https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2021/10/12/detroit-lions-wr-tyrell-williams-still-dealing-concussion/6101219001/?utm_campaign=snd-autopilotDan Campbell is genuine. It's one of his most endearing qualities as head coach. There is no pretense about Campbell, no charade. What you see is who he is, and if you've followed the NFL long enough, you know for people in positions of power that isn't always the case. Campbell isn't the first NFL coach to get emotional at a postgame news conference, like he did after Sunday's heartbreaking 19-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. But the fact that he did, that he hurt so publicly for his players and a Detroit Lions organization that had a win wrenched from its grasp for the second time in three weeks, resonated in the locker room and with the fan base.2. I think we have several needs that we need to tackle in the offseason.Avila talked about pursuing a proven, veteran starting pitcher and catcher in free agency, as well as trying to upgrade at shortstop.“Pitching is very important,” Avila said. “We've established three young starters (Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Matt Manning), but because of injuries, it's set us back a little bit. The injury to Spencer Turnbull is devastating, really.“And the injury to Matt Boyd, there's a decision looming there now going into the offseason.”“The resources will be there,” Avila said. “But I will caution you, this is not going to be spending like a drunken sailor. This is going to be a very measured process. We're going to make sure whatever decisions we make free agent-wise don't sink the organization for years to come. We want it to help the organization for years to come.” Avila, from 2015 through 2020, shred some $200 million off the payroll. Miguel Cabrera, who is owed $32 million each of the next two seasons, is the last remaining oversized contract on the books. They have salary commitments to just two other players for next season — $7.5 million to Jonathan Schoop and $5 million to Robbie Grossman. If want to pick one player who was emblematic of the Tigers' turnaround in 2021, pick Grossman. He signed a two-year, $10 million contract last winter and produced a career-year at age 31.On a team that had ranked at or near the bottom of the league in walks and chasing pitches out of the strike zone, Grossman was a season-long object lesson in taking professional at-bats.He walked 98 times, second-most in the American League. On a team that was trying to establish a culture of aggressive play, Grossman produced just the seventh 20-20 season in club history — 20 homers, 20 stolen bases.

1. Lions Bears & NFL week 4 Justin Fields Struggles early this season....There's only so much sympathy you're allowed to have for a rival, but as a fellow quarterback, one drafted in the first round who weathered the storm of falling short of early expectations, Jared Goff feels the pain of Chicago Bears rookie Justin Fields after his tumultuous first start last week. And in explaining why he feels a young quarterback shouldn't be pressed into action too early — an assessment shared by another pair of quarterbacks selected No. 1 overall during a segment on "Monday Night Countdown" — Goff unintentionally makes the case for the Detroit Lions sticking with him as their starter in 2022, even if they do decide to invest in the franchise's future at the position in the first round of next year's draft. 2. The Michigan Wolverines moved to 4-0 on the season on Saturday with a 20-13 win over Rutgers, but it wasn't supposed to be that comfortable and certainly didn't feel like it would happen after the first half of football. The Maize Out provided an electric atmosphere at the Big House last weekend, helping the Michigan Wolverines blowout the Washington Huskies by a score of 31-10. The rush attack generated most of the offense on the night, while the defense locked in and shut down any possible threat posed by Washington's offense. Beating a team like Washington in front of that sort of crowd can go a long way in the realm of recruiting, and fortunately for Michigan, there were a ton of recruits at Michigan Stadium to witness it all on Saturday. On this week's Future Brew, Von and Stephen discuss some of the recruit's reactions and who the Wolverines may have taken a lead for.
