EPISODE 327 - Clark, Will, and Roy start the show by talking about which card is better value from this year's Topps Basketball set: Wemby first licensed autograph card or Cooper Flagg's rookie autograph card? For Hobby Headlines, the guys break down the blog post by Jason Masherah, Upper Deck president, that warn against the current state of the hobby (with speculators/investors/flippers having a part in propping up the market). Then they play a round of "Quiz Show" before ending the episode with their regular weekly segment called "Pick 1."--------------------------CONNECT WITH US!Instagram: @cardstothemoon | @fivecardguys (Clark) | @yntegritysportscards (Hyung) | @tradeyouatrecess (John)Website: https://fivecardguys.com/podcastDaily Auctions (w/ affiliate links): https://fivecardguys.com/dailyauctionsIf you have any questions about the hobby that you would like addressed, email us at hello@fivecardguys.com or DM us on Instagram at @cardstothemoon or @fivecardguys.

Batman has an 85-year legacy filled with reinvention. What made now the right time to bring the Dark Knight into the Skybox Metal Universe, and why was he chosen as the first DC hero to headline this line?2. Metal Universe is known for its cutting-edge printing innovations — from etched foil to die-cuts and lenticular cards. Can you walk us through the technology that makes these cards stand out physically in-hand and how that translates to the Gotham aesthetic?3. Each Metal Universe line has its own visual identity, whether cosmic, heroic, or elemental. How did your team translate Batman's world — all shadow, grit, and neon — into the visual language of the brand?4. This set spans decades of Gotham history. What was the process for selecting which eras, storylines, and character designs to include, and how did you balance nostalgia with innovation?5. The set features signatures from legendary creators like Gail Simone and Marv Wolfman. What does it mean to have the actual architects of Gotham's mythology participate in this project, and how do their cards fit into the collector experience?6. How do you feel about people selling these on ebay?7. How do you pick out art?8. Your thoughts on the use of a.i. art?8. Can you tease any product on the way?9. (Fun one!) If you were designing your own “Grant Sandground” insert card for the set, what kind of foil finish or chase rarity would it have — and which Gotham character would you want to share a dual card with?

BSHL Podcast Season 3 Episode 21-The Vault presents Upper Deck Clear Cut Opening and Week 4 Preview
This episode hits hard with real talk about where the economy is heading, how it's impacting home service companies, and what you should be doing right now to stay afloat—or even grow. Ryan digs into urgent business strategy as layoffs sweep across major corporations like Amazon and UPS. With nearly a million jobs cut already this year, the economic signs are clear: it's time to tighten up operations, evaluate your spend, and pivot to what's working. Ryan shares the mindset, financial exercises, and decision-making framework he's using inside Aaron Overhead Doors, including a candid look at a failed radio ad campaign, trimming the fat on expenses, and doubling down on sales and automation. He announces an upcoming mastermind happening in Atlanta on December 6–7, focused on sales management, department structure, accountability, automation, and AI-driven efficiency. Whether you manage a sales team or are trying to become one, this limited event is designed to give you the tools to lead and grow in a tight economy.Ryan also discusses the shifting retail and supply chain landscape—how companies like Topps and Upper Deck are cutting out the middleman and how that same trend might hit garage door distributors soon. He warns of consolidation, rising competition, and the danger of cheap, unbranded operators driving customer expectations down.If you're feeling like you're working harder for the same revenue, you're not alone. Ryan talks through creating 90-day sprint plans, watching cash more frequently, eliminating waste, and rethinking where and how to spend ad dollars. He explains why now is not the time to pull back on marketing—but to get laser-focused on ROI, automation, and converting every lead. The episode closes with encouragement. It's not all doom and gloom—there's opportunity if you stay calm, keep your mindset positive, and lead your team with confidence. Your energy sets the tone, and culture might just be the thing that pulls your business through this rough season.Subscribe now, drop a comment if this resonated, and don't forget to hit Ryan up if you're interested in the mastermind event or just want to connect.Want in on the December mastermind? Part 4 opens with a candid design Q&A: why some modern hockey releases skip the embossed Upper Deck logo, how chrome stock and foiling budgets force trade-offs, and what it's like to keep your collector passion while building products—and reading the comments. Then we shift into a lively roundtable on flippers: the value they add, the “predatory” edge cases, bounty culture, and the dreaded “flipper vortex.” We also hit a research detour on Bond Bread Jackie Robinson, the coming “oddball era,” and where star-power vs. mainstream truly sits. Highlights Emboss vs. chrome: cost math, insert priorities, and why not every set can have everything Working in cards without losing the love; taking criticism vs. finding real feedback Flippers: service vs. scalping, pumps, selling before owning, and game-theory tactics for buyers Bond Bread Jackie primer and a case for rising “oddball” interest Quick hitters: requests for RPAs in SPx, Original Six centennial sets buzz, and living-set/gamified ideas for families Recorded Live Sept 27, 2027 Learn more about your ad choices. Part 3 shifts from chat-fueled fireworks to a nuts-and-bolts look at how modern hockey cards get made. We dig into why players sometimes miss checklists, how budget and foiling choices shape designs, balancing beloved inserts (Jambalaya, Platinum Portraits) against over-saturation, and what it takes to engineer the “next PMG.” We also touch on PWHL product plans and why thoughtful innovation matters more than ever. Highlights Live-room energy: 200+ in chat, quick nods to a Marc-André Fleury “swan song” moment and a Barkov knee news blip What companies can actually do for collectors: concrete, collector-first thinking from the product side Checklist realities: autographs, game-used, licensing/approvals, and why “just add Player X” isn't simple Cost vs wow-factor: spectrum deco foil, high-gloss choices, and why some designs get cut to hit budgets Insert strategy: keeping Jambalaya/Platinum Portraits special while avoiding annual overuse and fatigue Designing a new chase: how “Liquid Gold” became a true insert hit (tough odds, no parallels) and the blueprint for future chases PWHL roadmap: building excitement without copy-pasting NBA/WNBA formulas; fresh mechanics for a new audience Family/on-ramp ideas: hobby “quests,” living-set vibes, and gamified projects that bring kids into collecting Player-collector lens: why team/player collectors still want firsts (e.g., a legend's first Jambalaya) even if the theme returns Learn more about your ad choices. Superman (2025) brings audiences a version of Lois Lane and Clark Kent who are clearly very hot for each other. But could they ever actually consummate their relationship?“Putting it delicately…do you…eat?”Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Lois LaneWelcome to Does it Fly? After Dark, the podcast that puts your favorite pop culture concepts to the test…but this time in a slightly more adult setting. That's right, for this episode, we were live in front of an audience (at Mission Brewery in San Diego, California) with our brilliant friends Rosie Knight and Jason Concepcion of I Heart Media's X-Ray Vision podcast. Honestly, we needed all the help we could get to discuss the hot button issue of the moment: how is it possible for Superman and Lois Lane to have sex?Look, anyone who watched Rachel Brosnahan and David Corenswet as Lois and Clark on screen in James Gunn's brilliant Superman movie this year absolutely could feel the heat coming off those characters from the screen. So it's not “how COULD they” so much as it is “seriously, HOW could they?” As we all know, Kryptonians are made of, um, harder stuff than humans, and folks have spent the better part of 80 years quietly asking how Superman and Lois can be intimate without serious injury to the human part of the equation.Sure, there aren't many actual scientific studies involving human to alien sex, so we examined this heat-vision hot topic from all positions…sorry…angles in a raucous, slightly more R-rated format than usual. Check it out, but beware…this episode contains adult themes and strong language!Watch the video version here! https://youtu.be/4E3Zc3uT97MThis episode of Does it Fly is brought to you by Upper Deck. Fleer Brilliants Superman shines the light on Superman and Metropolis in a bright and brilliant new way!Whether it's the 90-card base set on rainbow foil board featuring art by some of the greatest artists in Superman history or highly collectible inserts like “Classic Covers,” “Last Son of Krypton,” “World of Metropolis,” Truth, Justice, and a Batter Tomorrow” or the super rare “Powered by the Sun” cards, Fleer Brilliants Superman is the ultimate tribute to the Man of Steel and his friends, family, and foes.Head to upperdeckstore.com to start your collection, today!FURTHER VIEWINGMuch of what prompted our discussion about Clark Kent and Lois Lane actually getting down to business came from the radiation burns level hot chemistry that co-stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have on screen in James Gunn's Superman (2025). You can now watch this on HBO Max if you need further proof. But also!Let's also refer you back to Richard Lester and Richard Donner's Superman II (1980) in which Clark (Christopher Reeve) temporarily gives up his powers to be with Lois (Margot Kidder) and there's a pretty sensual moment of the two of them in bed together in the Fortress of Solitude. That being said, Clark was a “normal man” there, but the fact that he had to give up his powers in order to get there might be an indication.Mid-1990s TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman often featured their Lois (Teri Hatcher) and Clark (Dean Cain) in an ongoing will they/won't they fury of sexual tension (they eventually did). But the specific episode where they learn they can't have children together because of Clark's alien biology was the series finale, season 4, episode 22.And, of course, Smallville was a remarkably horny show and there's uh…several episodes dealing with the matter of Clark (Tom Welling) having sex with human women. But one in particular is season 7, episode 7, “Wrath” in which Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) gains powers so Clark doesn't have to worry about holding back. But the real fun with Smallville is the long and winding and horny journey, so feel free to just wallow in Clark's awkwardness throughout. We also have fun with the question of the “kryptonite condom” raised by Kevin Smith's slacker comedy classic Mallrats.FURTHER READINGDo you want to delve a little deeper into the facts, concepts, and stories Hakeem and Tamara referenced in today's episode? Of course you do! Man of Steel, Woman of KleenexYou think we're the first people to consider this topic? Famed sci-fi and fantasy author Larry Niven first tackled this topic way back in 1969 (nice!). It's available online to read here. And in the Comics…For more than half of Superman's published history, it was more or less implied that he was pretty chaste. Aside from the major romantic players in his life like Lana Lang and Lois Lane, Superman has at various times been intimate with Maxima (a powerful alien who sees Supes as perfect to have kids with), Wonder Woman (during DC's “New 52” era and a fling which is almost certainly no longer canon), and others. But the real progression of his romance with Lois Lane, which eventually leads to the birth of their son, Jon, began in the mid-90s and Jon's birth and its aftermath are depicted in the Convergence: Superman and Lois and Clark limited series by Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks which are pretty much the starting point for their modern/current relationship.WANT MORE FROM DOES IT FLY?The companion piece to this episode is our much more family-friendly examination of the concept of Superman getting his powers from the yellow sun of Earth. And for something not remotely sexy, we looked at the horrifying reality of the Joker toxin from Batman (1989) here.FOLLOW US!Stay in the loop!
