This was the first in the CSC "Athletic Communications Building, Developing and Empowering Your Staff Live Webinar Series" presented during the 2024-25 academic year. The presenters discussed how to go about identifying, hiring, developing and empowering a student staff, in this time of shortened staffs and the need to cover numerous game day events and office management duties. They gave tips and strategies to bolster your office staff and office content production. This included: how to identify potential student workers on your campus; using Google docs, excels, calendars and GroupMe software to organize the students' schedules and organize their work flows; how to ID the best students for the diversity of assignments, and training for those assignments. They also discussed the importance of mentoring student workers and giving them opportunities to network and enhance their skills sets. Each panelist emphasized talking to student assistants about the "why" of their jobs and to help them understand how their contributions are making a difference in your athletic organization, and how their student worker skills and experiences will benefit them career-wise. Generating consistent statistics and consistent stat reporting are essential duties of each athletic communications department. From our 2023-24 CSC Statistics and Stat Rules Webinar Series, this webinar featured leading college soccer statisticians discussing pre-game best practices setups, in-game scoring, and giving an understanding of the rules of the game as they pertain to producing accurate statistics. Jacob Pavilack is the Associate Director of Athletic Communications at Northwestern University. The West Virginia native is the communications contact for Men's Basketball and Women's Lacrosse at Northwestern, working with both programs during historic seasons in 2023. He was previously the Assistant Athletic Communications Director at the University of Arkansas, where he worked with Razorback Football and Softball. Jacob has also stepped into the booth for SEC Network+ and the Kent State Sports Network, broadcasting the Golden Flashes as one of the youngest full-time network announcers in the country. Jacob is a two-time graduate of Kent State University with a bachelor of science in aviation management (2017) and a master of arts in sport and recreation management (2019).

Erin Bean joined Baylor Athletics in January 2021 to serve as the Assistant AD for Marketing Strategy. In September 2021 she was promoted to Associate AD for Strategic Marketing & Fan Engagement. She oversees the areas of strategic marketing, fan, and community engagement, social media & digital engagement, and the Baylor Spirit & Traditions program. Bean is the sports program administrator for Baylor Equestrian.  A former Division III volleyball student-athlete at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., Bean brings 10 years of experience, savvy, and passion for collegiate athletics, including experience in all three NCAA Divisions. She's had stints at Saint Leo University, University of South Florida, Tennessee Technological University, and the Northeast Conference, and started her career at her alma mater, Juniata College.  Prior to joining the Baylor family, Bean served as the Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations at Saint Leo (DII). She oversaw external components of athletic communications, marketing, special events, community engagement, game environment, ticket operations, concessions, merchandise sales, corporate partnerships, and Lions Athletic Fund. She also provided leadership to the areas of communication, alumni relations, fan engagement, development, and special events. The discussion focuses on postseason competitions and the roles that SIDs play to providing appropriate and timely information to a host media coordinator and the media covering broadcasts – regardless of the division of competition. What are the necessary information pieces and what is the preparation that the media and media hosts need from SIDs to ensure that there is a great broadcast and a great championship event? We see the postseasons preparation needs and role of athletic communicators through the eyes of the media and through a conference media relations host. Checklists for SIDs are also provided; one is a general checklist to prepare for a championship and for a broadcast. Kevin Rodriguez is a Sports Information Director at The University of Texas at Austin, highly regarded as one of the most competitive collegiate athletic institutions to not only work at, but also regarded as one of the biggest brands in sports and most successful in college athletics, having won the Learfield Director's Cup the previous 2 years. Kevin is the lead SID for UT baseball and UT Women's Volleyball, with the former fielding the NCAA Men's Player of the Year and the latter being regarded as one of the most prestigious volleyball programs in the history of the sport (they're the #1 lock to win the NCAA 2022 Women's Volleyball Title). Kevin has done extensive work with these sports and more, directing information and serving as a key liaison between the players, coaching staff, media, and other key sports stakeholders. Kevin graduated with a degree in Mass Communications from Sam Houston State University, where he also served as an SID there for two years, along with having worked with the National Football Foundation and University of Memphis as a Director of Athletic Communications.
