About Alexis:Alexis Elliott is a licensed clinical social worker, a certified diabetes educator, health education specialist, and behavioral health coach. She is owner and therapist at Diabetes and Obesity Treatment Strategies (aka DOTS). Alexis specializes in mental health, and behavioral and lifestyle challenges among people with diabetes, those at risk for diabetes, and weight-related issues. Her 20+ years of experience with diabetes is both personal and professional.Alexis is passionate about connecting the dots between mental and physical health. She advocates for the importance of behavioral health in overall health, but especially the integral role it plays in diabetes care. Based on individualized treatment plans, Alexis offers both traditional counseling and behavioral health coaching. She was the first provider in the state of South Carolina recognized by the American Diabetes Association's mental health provider directory, which designates clinicians who are experienced in the struggles unique to diabetes. Her motto is "Don't just survive with diabetes...thrive!"Alexis earned her bachelor's of science in health promotion from Coastal Carolina University and achieved her masters in social work from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
