The Mermaid Parade is the nation's largest art parade. It brings together creative minds in art and fashion and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to Brooklyn's amusement district. This year, painter, performer, and sideshow historian Joe Coleman will be King Neptune, and his wife, artist, and photographer Whitney Ward will be Queen Mermaid. The couple will officially open the beaches for the beginning of summer and celebrate the sun, sand, sea, and salt air. Poet Lorraine Brooks revisits her groundbreaking poem "Beauty & The Beach," which premiered over thirteen years ago on Divabetic's Roundtable podcast. "Beauty & The Beach" resonates deeply with podcast listeners and Diabetic blog readers. Since then, we have reshared Lorraine's poem on body love, swimwear, and beaches on subsequent podcasts and blog entries. Lorraine shares how her opinions about her body and wearing a swimsuit have changed over the past decade, but her feelings about her diabetes diagnosis have not. She emphasizes the time, effort, and care she has put into her diabetes management, which has helped her remain free of diabetes-related complications. Our discussion also touches on how negative self-talk can hinder us from enjoying life. Lorraine has agreed to revisit the themes o

For the past 64 years. Barbie has been a part of our lives, a cultural touchstone, or the quintessential image of what a woman should be but never will be - a sex or beauty object. Greta Gerwig's big-screen Barbie makeover and the related marketing blitz are inspiring us revisit and reevaluate Barbie and Ken's impact on our lives, including our sex lives. After all, if Barbie and Ken are confused about what to do at sleepovers, you might be too, especially if you're dealing with sexual health issues related to diabetes. With a few simple swaps, you can help live your best life while managing your diabetes. Our experts offer straightforward, simple, and fun swap ideas for drinks, medications, self-care, and fashion. Plus, we share style tips and words of inspiration to help you maintain a healthy habit. Developing these habits isn't always easy. Adapting to a new routine can be tricky, and it's often tempting to want to return to old ways if we don't see immediate results. One of the biggest mistakes people make when forming a new habit is taking on too much too quickly. Focus on what's working in your diabetes self-care plan before overhauling diabetes management. Instead of decluttering the entire house, why not focus on one room or closet? Why not focus on the calories you drink rather than everything you eat? If you want to eat healthier, try replacing one dessert daily with a piece of fruit rather than cutting out sugar completely. If you're going to get into hiking, start with a walk at lunchtime. Setting small goals you can achieve will help keep you motivated along the way. Guests include Catherine Schuller, Poet Lorraine Brooks, Patricia Addie-Gentle RD, CDCES, MaryAnn Horst Nicolay, MEd, NDTR, and MamaRose Marie. Hosted by Mr. Divabetic. Clarence Waldron talks about his stroke, recovery, working as Senior Editor and Writer of Jet Magazine, and his memories of Luther Vandross and Aretha Franklin. Twenty years ago, Clarence interviewed Luther's mother, Mrs. Mary Ida Vandross, for Jet Magazine after Luther suffered a stroke due to mismanaged type 2 diabetes. Clarence's story is an excellent reminder of why it's essential to ACT F.A.S.T. if you or a loved one is experiencing a stroke. The acronym FAST (Facial drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulties, and Time) has been used by the National Stroke Association, American Heart Association, and others to educate the public on detecting stroke symptoms. Earlier treatment results in a greater chance of recovery, a reduced likelihood of permanent disability, and a lesser need for extensive rehabilitation. You'll quickly hear Clarence's upbeat attitude and ferocious appetite for music and divas have served him well during his recovery. Throughout this podcast, we feature music from Aretha Franklin's Get It Right album and Luther Vandross's Live At Radio City Music Hall 2003 20th Anniversary Edition album courtesy of SONY Music. Mr. Divabetic talks with international yoga teacher, and author Rachel Zinman, living with LADA diabetes, who shares a guided meditation, "Compassion Meditation," focusing on self-love and compassion to help jumpstart your year with a new attitude. There have been many bumps in the road on Rachel's journey with LADA diabetes (latent autoimmune diabetes in adults) related to her initial misdiagnosis. She shares how yoga and meditation helped her to overcome years of frustration and confusion about managing her diabetes. Rachel's meditation references Tara, a female deity in both Hinduism and Buddhism. Tara personifies compassion and offers salvation from suffering. She is thought to have been born of empathy for the suffering world and is regularly invoked for protection, guidance, and deliverance from difficult situations. In Hinduism, she is the second of the ten Mahavidyas, avatars of the great Mother Goddess Mahadevi. In Buddhism, Tara is a savior deity who liberates souls from suffering. According to origin tales, she emerged from the tear of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara who cried when looking upon the suffering world. She is therefore associated primarily with compassion but can take on many forms to help and protect her devotees. In her book, Yoga for Diabetes, Rachel Zinman shares her journey and the hard-won wisdom gained from her own experience of yoga and diabetes.

Recipe – Oven Roasted Salmon with Fruit Salsa Divabetic was inspired by the late R&B legend Luther Vandross, founded in 2005 by his long-time assistant, Max “Mr. Divabetic” Szadek. Divabetic, a combination of the word “diabetic” with the letter “V” inserted for Vandross, evokes feelings of power and a positive attitude associated with the great divas Luther loved, like Patti LaBelle. started Divabetic in 2003. I sold my first Divabetic t-shirt and donated the proceeds to different diabetes nonprofits until Divabetic became a nonprofit in 2005. I'll be promoting Divabetic's latest mystery podcast, "Tomorrow Is Not On The Menu" available for free on iTunes, BlogTalkRadio and Spotify. This show focuses on sugar addiction and the added sugar in our diets and dispels the myth that weight loss is the be-all and end-all to achieving better diabetes management. Janet and Rosetta Van der Voort, born in the 1800s, were two wealthy sisters whose father rarely let them leave the house unaccompanied. The one place they were allowed to visit was Central Park's Wollman Rink, where they went ice skating in the winter. The two sisters never married, were lifelong best friends, and died a few months apart. Since their death, their ghostly spirits have been seen periodically skating together on the Central Park Pond, wearing the same red and purple outfits they wore over 100 years ago. Divabetic pays tribute to the sisters' spirits, hoping to encourage you to indulge in the creativity associated with Halloween instead of candy. Halloween's record-breaking sugar consumption and its detrimental effects on overall health are scarier than any ghost story. It's been reported that consumers gobbled up a record $36.9 billion in candy, gum, mints, chocolate, and other confections in 2021. High intakes of dietary sugars in the setting of a worldwide pandemic of obesity and cardiovascular disease have heightened concerns about the adverse effects of excessive consumption of sugars.

I'm Stacey Simms and these are the top diabetes stories and headlines of the past seven days. XX In the news is brought to you by T1D Exchange! T1D Exchange is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving outcomes for the entire T1D population. https://t1dexchange.org/stacey/ XX Our top story this week, Vertex buys Viacyte! For context, Vertex is the company that got all the headlines last fall – big article in the New York Times for a stem cell therapy that brought one person with type 1 off insulin completely. The FDA put them on hold but lifted that just last week. Vertex previously acquired Dr. Doug Melton's Semma. Viactye is the company featured in the documentary "The Human Trial" - they're using CRISPR technology to keep the body from rejecting their stem cells. Both companies technology does NOT require immunosuppressive drugs and both say they are working toward a functional cure. Some experts are saying this will speed up that effort while critics worry that it eliminates the competitive aspect of the race. Sernova is still one separate company that has shown stem cell therapy can work.. I've got requests out to Viacyte to talk to us about all of this, so stay tuned. https://investors.vrtx.com/news-releases/news-release-details/vertex-acquire-viacyte-goal-accelerating-its-potentially?fbclid=IwAR15qlFSBsBR89blzXymyIGL3tW5C64QtdHpwq7a5fdjmv2q6JmfoTIpm-k XX If we widely screened kids for type 1 at certain ages, a new study suggests, it would identify most of those who go on to develop it by their teen years. These researchers looked at screening for the type 1 autoantibodies at ages 2 and 6. This included nearly 25-thousand children from Europe and US. One issue in this study, funded by JDRF, all the participants in the combined dataset had genetic risk factors for the disease or a relative with type 1 diabetes, in whom performance is expected to be higher. It also included almost exclusively kids of northern European ancestry. https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/976992 XX Tandem bolus by phone is slowly rolling out. This week, the T:Connect app was updated in the The t:connect app was updated and emails started arriving for those notified they were part of the early release groups. I did see some reports of people not yet getting the email but seeing the update in their portal so be sure and check. Mobile Bolus is reportedly available for those using Control IQ and Basal IQ. It's worth noting that for those outside the US there really is no timeline, but Tandem has previously said they're going to replace t:connect with a new system that will debut outside the US first. By the way, I got my email this morning, but Benny is still at camp for three more weeks so it'll be a bit before we do the update! XX Interesting look at teens and young adults with type 1.. the early morning psychosocial state may explain a proportion of their daily variance in time in range. The study included 88 participants aged between 14 and 26 years, 56-percent of whom were women. This is tough to quantify but they had the participants complete an engagement prediction survey and set a diabetes management goal for the day when they woke up, and also completed an evening survey. These questions were about mood, motivation, control beliefs, social support, stress, general health, self-esteem, and perceived need for assistance. Of note, lower morning glucose levels correlated with measures of good sleep, high motivation, and good health, whereas higher morning glucose levels were associated with illness and feeling the need for support. https://www.medwirenews.com/diabetes/morning-mindset-daily-glucose-fluctuations-young-people-diabetes/23255450 XX Good catch by our friend Nerdabetic over on Twitter.. One Drop plans to enter what they're calling the continuous health sensing market with a daily disposable, minimally invasive biosensor in development. They say this is designed to provide greater flexibility and insights for people living with diabetes compared to blood glucose monitor (BGM) fingersticks alone. The availability of our continuous health sensor is subject to receipt of clearance or approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Pending regulatory approval and commercial adoption, we believe integrating the One Drop health sensor with our existing digital solution, One Drop Premium, should augment proven outcomes and yearly cost savings for members living with diabetes and other chronic conditions. https://onedrop.today/blogs/blog/bgm-vs-cgm?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social-organic&utm_campaign=social-campaign_jul-2022&utm_content=blog XX Navitus Health Solutions, which is owned by Costco & SSM Health – has joined CivicaScript as a founding member. CivicaScript was created in 2020 to bring affordable versions of common but high-priced generic medicines to market. Earlier this year they announced they would be adding insulin to that list, but it likely won't be available for at least two years. This partnership would seem to insure the lower cost insulin will be available at Costco pharmacies, which you don't have to have a membership to use. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20220713005349/en/Navitus-Health-Solutions-Joins-CivicaScriptTM-to-Further-Availability-of-Lower-Cost-Generic-Medications/?fbclid=IwAR0vBF0YlCo9ZJ-9Yd0nLag_Mjuf8s4YpnR9IJVudvVGDR1Rj508HSd_kXw XX Right back to the news in a moment but first As I mentioned, The T1D Exchange Registry is an online research study, designed to harness the power of individuals with type 1 diabetes. It's a research study conducted online over time, designed to foster innovation and improve the lives of people with T1D. Personal information remains confidential and participation is fully voluntary. Once enrolled, participants will complete annual surveys and have the opportunity to sign up for other studies on specific topics related to T1D. By sharing opinions, experiences and data, patients can help advance meaningful T1D treatment, care and policy Sign up at T1DExchange.org slash Stacey (that's S-T-A-C-E-Y). XX The Food and Drug Administration received more than a thousand comments—mainly from diabetes patients and their family members—in response to draft cybersecurity guidance. These are for staff to use when processing submissions from medical-device manufacturers. “Please do not let medical device manufacturers use cybersecurity as a pretense to prevent me from accessing my OWN devices,” reads one entry from a sample of the comments FDA posted to the docket on the guidance. Howard Look, CEO of Tidepool is quoted in some of the article around this. Tidepool provides software that allows patients to see their data and better manage the disease. And supporters are working to make Tidepool Loop the first FDA approved app for more convenient automated insulin delivery. “Following best practices for cybersecurity does not need to imply blocking patient users from accessing their own data or controlling their own devices,” the comments read. “Tidepool asserts there is a risk that the FDA guidance will be interpreted or misinterpreted to suggest restriction of access by the patient user is appropriate or encouraged. The FDA can mitigate this risk by clearly stating a patient user's access to and use of their own device can be considered authorized access, and should not be considered a cybersecurity threat.” With a 90-day public comment period ending Thursday, the FDA will now begin the process of finalizing cybersecurity guidance for its pre-market submissions, according to a notice in the Federal Register. https://www.nextgov.com/cybersecurity/2022/07/diabetes-patients-flood-fda-comments-cybersecurity-medical-devices/374020/ XX Congrats to the team over at Divabetic Podcast – which celebrates 12 years this month! We're celebrating Divabetic's 12th Year Anniversary of Podcasting with musical inspiration from Babyface and music from his A Closer Look album courtesy of SONY Music. Guests include Poet Lorraine Brooks,Susan WeinerMS, RDN, CDCES,FADCES, Ivan Hampden Jr., and Collage Artist Tom Cocotos. Hosted by Max "Mr. Divabetic" Szadek. "The blessing of being able to write music and let music speak for itself is you let the melodies and let the lyrics and the groove talk to people instead of me talking to people," says Babyface. What makes Babyface so great? His ability to craft a song that touches our emotions captivates our ears and aligns every word in perfect harmony. It's a rare gift that not many people have in music. "I would say that I've been lucky. Being blessed and not really ever giving up," says Babyface. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your diabetes wellness journey! We're looking forward to sharing more insight and advice on diabetes self-care from experts and peers, along with more great music in the next year!
The happy healthcare host, Mr. Divabetic discusses Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) on this one hour of wellness with a wow podcast. PMDD is severe, sometimes disabling extension of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that start about 7 to 10 days before a woman gets her monthly period. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists estimates that at least 85 percent of menstruating women have at least one PMS symptom as part of their monthly cycle. PMS is much more common than PMDD. Biologic, psychological, environmental, and social factors all play a part in PMDD. It is important to note that PMDD is not the fault of the woman suffering from it or the result of a "weak" or unstable personality. It is also not something that is "all in the woman's head." Rather, PMDD is a medical illness that impacts only 3% to 8% of women. Fortunately, it can be treated by a health care professional with behavioral and pharmaceutical options. Podcast Guests: Dr. Andrea Chisholm OBGYN, Peak 10 Skin founder Connie Elder, We Are Diabetes founder Asha Brown, and Laura L., who are both living with type 1 diabetes. Throughout the podcast, we will be playing selected songs from P.M. Dawn's live album courtesy of SONY Music.

Divabetic's first podcast of the year featuring Rachel Zinman, Arthur Aston, and Patricia Addie Gentle RN, CDCES. Rachel will be presenting a guided mediation you won't want to miss! Our musical inspiration, R&B singer Teddy Pendergrass, who was not living with diabetes, overcame many obstacles and continued to sing after a car crash in 1982 that left him in a wheelchair. Before the crash, Mr. Pendergrass's explosive, raw voice earned turned him into an international star and sex symbol. His masculinity, passion, and the joys and sorrow of romance were featured in songs such as Close the Door, Love T.K.O, and other hits that have since become classics. Teddy's longtime collaborator Kenny Gamble said, "He had a tremendous career ahead of him, and the accident sort of got in the way of many of those plans." Mr. Pendergrass suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down - still able to sing but without his signature power. The image of the masculine, virile lover was replaced with one that drew sympathy. But instead of becoming bitter or depressed, Teddy Pendergrass created a new identity - that as a role model, Mr. Gamble said. "He never showed me that he was angry at all about his accident," Mr. Gamble said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "In fact, he was very courageous." After extensive physical therapy, he resumed his recording career. He had Top 10 rhythm and blues hits and gold albums into the '90s. We hope Teddy Pendergrass helps inspire you to focus on the positive in the face of challenges related to managing your diabetes. Throughout the podcast, we will be featuring music by Teddy Pendergrass courtesy of SONY Music.
The Holidays are full of surprises— especially after Mr. Divabetic gets a new job as the pastry chef at the St. Nicholas Nursing Home nestled in a cozy Christmas Village. But adjusting to life in a Christmas Village is not all sugarplums and candy canes. Especially when a cantankerous resident, a real-life Ebenezer Scrooge, named Mr. Pincher almost dies——shortly after eating one of Max's peanut butter swirl brownies. Despite all of the ingredients for danger, Mr. Divabetic along with our team of amateur sleuths and his overly protective mother -- set out to find the real culprit in the hopes that his name isn't on a lethal naughty list. Our story was inspired by Kevin Houdeshell's tragic true-life story. Thanks to the Houdeshell family for their advocacy efforts on behalf of the Emergency Insulin Act of 2019 and the emergency prescription refill legislation. Known as Kevin's or Howdy's Law, it allows pharmacists to dispense an emergency supply of a chronic maintenance medication if the doctor cannot be reached – a common-sense act that could save a life. Starring Max 'Mr. Divabetic' Szadek, USA Best Selling Author Tonya Kappes, Mama Rose Marie, Patricia Addie Gentle, Terri Seidman, MaryAnn Nicolay, Trisha Artman, Catherine Schuller, Chef Robert Lewis, Seveda Williams, and Wendy Radford. Special thanks to the Houdeshell family, and Pharmacist Mandy Reece. Original music by Ivan Hampden Jr., Celine Dion's vocals courtesy of SONY Music. Produced by Leisa Chester Weir. In the spirit of Scrooge's awakening at the end of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, we encourage you to honor Christmas in your heart by living in the Past, The Present, and the Future. Try to embrace the Spirits of all Three and the lessons that they teach.
We're celebrating people's ability to thrive living with diabetes with inspiration from the great Italian composer Giacomo Puccini. Giacomo Puccini was born in 1858 and later diagnosed with diabetes in 1908. Numerous reports mention that he struggled to manage his diagnosis for much of his life. We will be interspersing highlights of the history of diabetes, self-care treatments, and innovations for the past hundred years as we discuss Puccini's artistry and life. Among Puccini's artistic triumphs include La bohème, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly. Unfortunately, his last opera, based on the fable of Turandot, would remain unfinished due to his death from throat cancer in Brussels in 1924. Guests include Toby Smithson, MS, RDN, LD, CDCES, FAND Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDCES. Hosted by Mr. Divabetic. Throughout this podcast, we will be featuring music from Puccini: Great Opera Arias courtesy of SONY Music.
We're talking about how to get over the fear and anxiety about speaking publically about your diabetes and related health issues (including depression and sleep apnea) with music from Carly Simon. Grammy winner Carly Simon has recorded over 30 albums, won two Grammies, and an Academy Award. Carly Simon managed to accomplish her dreams by overcoming severe stuttering and painful migraines to achieve her success. When I was a young child,” Carly Simon has revealed, “I had a stammer. And the only time it went away was when I sang. One day, my mother said to me, ‘Don't speak it, sing it.' And that's what I did.” Leading advocates share their journeys and tools that help them: FreeStyle Libre 2 App, CPAP machines, and a new line of baked good mixes, TruEats. The FreeStyle Libre system measures glucose levels through a small sensor applied to the back of your upper arm. It provides real-time glucose readings for up to 10 days, both day and night.Sleep Apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night's sleep, you might have sleep apnea.Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is a common treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. A CPAP machine uses a hose and mask or nosepiece to deliver constant and steady air pressure. Guests include the Director of Content of the sleep sites of Pillar4 Media, Marten Carlson, and Plus-Size Fashion and Tavel Blogger, LGBTQ+ Influencer, Alysse Dalessandro Santiago. October's Divabetic podcast features music from Carly Simon's Coming Around Again album courtesy of SONY Music.

This August, we're talking with two leading doctors(an Optometrist and a Retina Specialist, and Surgeon)and two diabetes advocates about eye health, and vision loss related to diabetes with musical inspiration from TLC. Did you know August is Vision & Learning Month? The goal of this national observance is to help increase awareness among parents and educators on the prevalence of undiagnosed or misdiagnosed vision problems. Diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in adults. This is a growing problem as the number of people living with diabetes increases, so does the number of people with impaired vision. Diabetes can cause a disease of the eye called diabetic retinopathy (DR). In its early stages, you may not notice any symptoms or changes to your eyesight, and you cannot tell that this condition is damaging your eyes. If it is not detected and treated in a timely manner, your vision can be damaged permanently. Among adults aged 45 and over with diagnosed diabetes, 9.2% had vision loss due to cataracts, 4.1% had vision loss due to diabetic retinopathy, 2.2% had vision loss due to macular degeneration, and 2.1% had vision loss due to glaucoma. Guests include Sherrol Reynolds M.D. (Associate Professor and Chief of Advanced Ophthalmic Care at the Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry, President of the National Optometric Association (NOA)), Rishi Singh, M.D. (Retina Specialist and Staff Surgeon at the Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic), Andrea Sledge, Natalie Karabel,Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDCES. Hosted by Max 'Mr. Divabetic' Szadek. Throughout our podcast, we are featuring music from TLC's CrazySexyCool album courtesy of SONY Music.
We're celebrating Divabetic's 11th Podcast Anniversary with musical inspiration from Toni Braxton. The seven-time Grammy Award-winner has sold over 70 million records and is one of the best-selling R&B artists of all time. When Toni Braxton was first diagnosed with systemic lupus in 2008, her doctors told her that she would need a heart transplant and might not ever perform again. "I remember being petrified," she said. "I was scared. I didn't know anything about lupus." Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect the joints, skin, brain, lungs, kidneys, and blood vessels. It can also lead to heart disease and kidney disease. Insulin resistance is increased in people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Insulin resistance occurs when excess glucose in the blood reduces the ability of the cells to absorb and use blood sugar for energy. This increases the risk of developing prediabetes, and eventually, type 2 diabetes. Guests include Dr. Sara Reece, PharmD - NGMC, GME, Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDCES, Keith Anthony Fluitt, and Sonya Hogans. Hosted by Max 'Mr. Divabetic' Szadek.
Mr. Divabetic spotlights LGBTQAI+ people living with, affected by, and at risk of diabetes on June's podcast with music from Indigo Girls. Research shows that LGBTQAI+ people have unique health disparities and worse health outcomes than their heterosexual counterparts, related to diabetes care and education. Guests include The Flood Girls & The Small Crimes of Tiffany Templeton Author Richard Fifield, and Mutha Chucka, and Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDCES. Marriage equality was a mere pipe dream when Indigo Girls duo Emily Saliers and Amy Ray came out in 1988, coinciding with the release of their eponymous Epic Records debut. With regard to popular entertainment, particularly within the music business, Emily Saliers and Amy Ray were at the forefront of the queer rights movement. They won a Grammy and released chart-toppers like Closer to Fine. And they refused to let their sexuality get in the way of their success, brazenly being themselves at a time when being a gay public figure was uncommon and even downright scary. Throughout the podcast, we will be featuring music from their Indigo Girls album courtesy of SONY Music.
Divabetic's Diabetes Late Nite podcast guests include Asha Brown, Maximize Your Metabolism Co-Authors Dr. Noel Maclaren and Sunita Singh Maclaren, Trisha Artman, Dana B. Roseman, MPH, CDCES, RDN, Know Diabetes By Heart's Karen Dawson and Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDCES. In 1985, Barbra Streisand returned to her roots with the release of her twenty-fourth album, The Broadway Album. Having decided that Broadway musicals were no longer in the same league as some of the more commercial music dominating the charts in the early ‘70s, Streisand ended up taking an unforeseen fifteen-year break from Broadway and show tunes. This return to her “roots” was a shock to many, worrisome for some, but ultimately a massive success, both critically and commercially. It's almost time to raise the curtains again in New York City when Broadway returns in September 2021. Throughout the podcast, we will be featuring music from Barbra Streisand's The Broadway Album courtesy of SONY Music. We're celebrating the musical legacy of Luther Vandross and raising awareness for diabetes health-related complications (such as vision loss) on Divabetic’s Annual Luther Vandross Tribute podcast. Diabetic eye disease, caused by diabetes, is a leading cause of blindness and vision loss. Because of the high risk for eye disease, all people with type 2 diabetes should receive an annual dilated eye exam. A 2019 Vision Source study of 1,000 U.S. consumers found that more than 50% had issues with their vision in the past year, and 34% did not go for a professional eye exam. The major barriers to having an annual eye exam included not thinking they needed one (33%), unsure of where to go (25%), lack of insurance, (22%) and expense (22%). Comprehensive eye exams are key to overall wellness and preserving a high quality of life. In addition to evaluating vision, annual eye exams can detect serious health issues, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, and even cancer. Guests include Andre "Doctor Dre" Brown, Nat Adderley Jr., Dr. Khoshnevis, Danny Clay, and Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDE. Throughout this podcast we will be featuring music from Luther Vandross’s album, ‘The Night I Fell In Love’ courtesy of SONY Music.

Things go from bad to worse when the snake phobic Mr. Divabetic hears about the giant python’s escape. Now, the happy healthcare host must decide to face his fear of snakes and recipe rejection or throw in his apron and risk getting caught up in another murder investigation.
