Sunrise in Your Pocket

The beginning of a new year often marks a time when many of us set goals and intentions. But in this week’s episode, I’m inviting you to dig deeper to find your innermost desires and longings, and then name them to kick-start 2019. These longings live in a place where joy, delight, wonder, and curiosity live, and they exist without conditions or expectations. Sound like fun? ...Or perhaps scary? Join me to make 2019 the year you “name it!” Highlights for Name It Why is naming what we want so very difficult? (4:00) What would it be like to want something “just because”? (4:35) What is the difference between setting a goal (or an intention) and getting specific about naming your desire? (5:35) Attune to your inner source of joy, delight, wonder, and curiosity to ensure that your “It” comes from you (and not from someone else’s desires) (6:15) What you crave doesn’t need to make sense to anyone else (9:00) It almost doesn’t even matter if what you crave actually ever manifests. It is more about creating space to let these desires emerge from within you (11:10) Resources Check out one of my favorite songs to inspire you to dare yourself to tune in to your deepest longings HERE » https://open.spotify.com/track/7IeK4EQwNLKxoUw0MCji7V?si=V6hnjr5ASxuz7vLxNA5n2A Your Invitations for This Week Give yourself permission to consider what you want to do, experience, or feel in 2019. The hustle and bustle of the holidays and the end of 2018 are here. Many of you might be starting to think about (or have already thought about) 2019 and what is next. But before you do, what if you could savor THIS. “This” being what is here for you … at this moment … in this year. In this week’s episode, I am diving into what it means to savor – why it is important and how to do it. “Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.” ~Etty Hillesum Highlights for Savor This Savor this moment and this year before jumping into what you want to create in 2019 (2:20) One definition or perspective of what it means to “savor” (3:30) Notice the space between your breaths, let the pause between your inhale and exhale linger (3:40) Allow micro-moments to linger (4:00) As a way to savor, attune to the sensations that live inside your body (4:40) What to do when a moment doesn’t feel “savor-worthy” (5:10) Savor not just the obvious moments, but also the unexpected ones (6:35) Check things off your to-do list with a quick savoring practice (8:20) Experiment with these savoring practices to let big and little moments linger (10:05) Your Invitations for This Week Let moments linger in your day when you are with your loved ones, friends, or in nature. Ah, self-care. We hear all about why we NEED self-care, all the time. But for many people, time feels scarce, and the idea of finding time to care for yourSELF is low on the priority list – I get it. Which is why this week, I’m sharing my thoughts on the truth about self-care. Here is a hint: it is THAT important. You might be nodding your head but still wondering, “I get it … but how?” The trick, for me, is to see self-care less as a luxury and more as a part of our daily maintenance. Do you assume worst-case scenarios? Or see things fall flat before they’ve even had a chance to take off? To be a catastrophizer is a natural tendency for many of us. This week, I’m exploring what it means to be a catastrophizer and how navigating this type of worst-case future thinking can actually help us connect with our inner strength and wisdom. Highlights for Are You a Catastrophizer? What is a catastrophizer? (3:35) You might be a catastrophizer if… (4:15) What happens when you notice you are falling into catastrophizing (9:55) Try these five steps to untangle yourself from a catastrophizing spiral (10:15) It is when we fight against or resist what is showing up that we trigger catastrophizing (14:25) Your tendency to catastrophize might not be something you can undo, but it can offer a window to getting to know yourself and your triggers (18:20) Your Invitations for This Week Give yourself the gift of catching yourself rather than judging your catastrophizing. You’ve probably been hearing a lot about gratitude. ‘Tis the season. But in this week’s episode, I am sharing why gratitude is a key transformational practice for every day of the year. A mindset of gratitude is more than just a trendy thing to try; this mindset actually changes the wiring in our brain to counteract all the years of focusing on what is going wrong around us. “Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” ~Melody Beattie Highlights for The Truth About Gratitude What happens if you are “over” all things gratitude? (1:05) A non-scientific explanation of the science behind why gratitude is good for us (2:55) How combining a gratitude practice with a sleep routine created BIG change for me (4:15) Gratitude isn’t about ignoring life; it is about receiving what is around you (8:55) Use these ideas to add gratitude as a practice without adding to your to-do list (13:40) Three questions for attuning to gratitude as a mindset (without using the word grateful) (14:10) Your Invitations for This Week Where can you add an intentional gratitude practice to your day?
