Scott Alden, the man behind BoardGameGeek, is one creative entrepreneur, let me tell ya. Anyone could've thought to make a central website where boardgamers come for information and community, but it takes more than a good idea for something to be reality. For 25 years Aldie has been adding features, listening to comments, growing the hobby, and doing way more than most to enhance boardgaming around the world. I can't believe it's been so long since I've had him on the podcast. I'll be sure to do it again soon.                            Here Scott joins me to talk about the BGG Hall of Fame, where 25 famous titles were inducted into an inaugural collection. Jennifer Schlickbernd headed up the project with Aldie's blessing, and Candice Harris was responsible producing & editing the awesome videos that accompanied this launch. I was pleased to be invited to be the initial jury that came up with the games, and also pleased with the end result. We each had our own experiences & different appreciations for various titles, but it was a group effort--including much group deliberation--that resulted in the final list. Schacht The Monkey con After the interview, I go on to talk about most of the games I played at a recent, regional convention: EsCon. The games all have one thing in common--they were all designed by Michael Schacht. As long as my friends are onboard, I really have fun focusing on something at events like these. Sometimes it's SdJ winners, or trick-taking games, or pre-2000 boardgames. This time it was focused on a single designer. As EsCon host Steve Paap likes to label these things, we called it our Schacht The Monkey con.              Closer: The following month's episode will be this podcast's own 20th anniversary. Can you believe it? Dave Arnott will be on to interview me and I can tell stories (some old, some new) about the past two decades behind a laptop and inexpensive microphone. If you've got questions or otherwise want to me to talk about something, send in your feedback now. Thanks. -Mark

Get in loser. We're going to the Florida Keys, so you know we're running into some ghosts. It's Hemingway! It's six toed cats! Cute as button Victorian cottages that all contain their own special flavor of drama. “That's all we do isn't it - look at things and try new drinks?” That's what Hemingway wrote. For Mandy, she's trying her best to live up to this adage. A very angry ghost is making that pretty challenging. Buying a home? Click here to perform a full Home SearchSelling a home? Click here for a FREE Home Value ReportWe have recently released market reports from November 2015, and I think it will allow us to get a better pulse on what's happening in the local market.I've made a chart of the inventory available, shown as days-on-market, and I've divided it by zip codes. The market is becoming more balanced, but there are areas where we're seeing more higher supply of homes than others. Sterling, Ashburn, and Chantilly are seeing low days on market (low inventory compared to demand), so SELLERS are going to be put in opportunistic positions in those micro markets. On the flipside, days-on-market is high in Aldie and Purcellville so buyers will have a variety of homes to choose from, and more leverage in those areas. The major trend we're seeing throughout the market is that inventory is actually down from last year.Another thing to take away is that real estate is very local. Even within our area, there are very different looking micro markets.  Sterling is behaving like a Seller's Market while Aldie is behaving like a Buyer's Market!Lastly, there is a lot of new construction going on in Northern Virginia. Aldie is experiencing a dramatic uptick in construction, and it's forming two different micro markets right in the same zip code.  It's important to know the market, and have the right strategy for the market, whether you are Buying or Selling. If you have any further questions about our real estate market here in Northern Virginia, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Yup, products by Rickrak get our full stamp of approval and we've tried, tested, and use these products. We talk about many of the Rickrak products in this episode and what we learned about them. We'll definitely give you some things to think about.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE FOR RICKRAK! Shane and his dad Rick Riffel, a father-son team out of Huntersville, NC, have developed a unique quick detach luggage system for Harley-Davidson and Indian motorcycles. And it's the best in our opinion!  In less than 10 seconds you can have your luggage off and on your Harley or Indian! And no more luggage straps slapping your paint. Those days are gone for good. The Rickrak is sturdy, yet light.  Videos: Check out our YouTube Channel or this website and use the search bars to search for "Rickrak". We've done a multitude of free video reviews and installs of Rickrak products. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! You also gotta check out Rickrak's high-quality Harley Saddlebag Safety Bolts. We've tested many similar products and we believe Rickrak's are the best out there by far. They are super high quality and used by the crew here. Beware of the cheap stock pins that hold your Harley bags on. There have been recalls and lawsuits over bags falling off over the years.  And, never lose or leave your motorcycle gas cap again. If you're like me, I take it off and put it on top of the dirty pump. Yup, I've seen many biker friends leave the cap behind and they are not cheap at all to replace. Plus, you're picking up grime that can then be introduced to your fuel system.  With the simple Gas Kap Keeper Magnet by Rickrak, you won't leave it behind anymore. It installs in seconds and you can then stick your gas cap to your tank, ignition, or anywhere else metal. And, it has a super awesome protective coat, so it won't scratch your paint.  Listen in to this episode to get all these details and much more. Ok, now I'm finally on my break from the podcast. I wanted this one last, odd episode as a chance to reflect on the 10 years I've been doing the show. (And as longtime listeners remember, I never really think of it as a "show." I like to think of it more as an "audioblog.")To answer the question that keeps coming up, my break/hiatus/sabbatical won't last forever. I'm not quitting, I'm just taking a year off. Maybe it won't be that long, but the point is to take a significant break while I recharge my batteries and think about some other things. Also, I'll still be boardgaming the whole time I'm on this break, and I'll keep posting to BGG. I've enjoyed posting my Recent Gaming geeklists, and hope some of my listeners read & respond to those. I've also been having fun talking with the boardgame community on Twitter (@BoardgamesToGo). Come join us! You may even spy on the occasional episode of Game Night! On this episode you'll hear me talk about envying the way other podcasts and videocasts have taken the idea of "seasons" from television and used it to frame their broadcasts. That never occurred to me in the old days, but I wish it had. Well, I've decided to retroactively apply annual seasons to all of my episodes, and put them all up on BGG in a series of geeklists. I'm really happy with how it all came out. Whether new listeners discover my old episodes, or you go back and re-listen to part of one you remember, it should now be easier. They were always on the podcast feed, but now they've got an easy place to find on the web. Also, the geeklist format has proved useful and robust for so many purposes. They're easier to subscribe to, and they're a good place for comments. I even cut & pasted my accompanying blog entries for those old episodes, putting them in the geeklist entries. I may even look into porting over some of the notable comments/discussion from those old episodes. Yes, this may mean that the focus for writing & feedback shifts to these geeklists instead of this blog. That's ok. Blogs on BGG are nice, but they're just not as convenient for everyone as geeklists. I think this will work better for everyone. As I've said many times, my original impetus for creating Boardgames To Go was demonstrating how do-able an amateur podcast could be. I hoped there would be more boardgame podcasts available for me to listen to on my drive, run, or whatever. It worked! Well, I know for a fact that these podcasts would've come along anyway. But if I did my small part to create some to arrive a few months earlier than they otherwise would've, then I take some small pride in that. Geekspeak/Boardgamespeak was first (Aldie is always on the leading edge!), but I'm pleased to be the Avis of boardgame podcasts. Although Aldie let Boardgamespeak lapse as he moved on to other projects, there are other podcasts besides mine that have been chugging along for years & years. Tom Vasel & Doug Garrett have each racked up over 400 hundred episodes, and Dave & Stephen have recorded over one million hours.  Congrats to all! I'm happy to be in this club.-MarkP.S. When you listen to the end of the show, mentally replace my answer of "Pergamon" with "Tigris & Euphrates." Much better choice.
