There's no denying that yoga is both a physical and mental practice. When people practice yoga, they can experience all sorts of emotions and that may come out in various ways. In this episode, Dr. Lauren Tober and I discuss various scenarios that may come up in your classes and look at them through the lens of mental health, sharing emotions and human behavior. These topics are not often discussed but they can provide an important foundation for yoga teachers when teaching classes. In this episode, Dr. Tober breaks down the components of mental health into 6 pillars, which are further explored in her book ( link below ). Highlights include the ethics of being a yoga teacher and what's within our professional scope of practice as well as how yoga can be helpful from a therapeutic perspective. We discuss what it means to create a “safe space” for our students, how to teach a class when a student is doing their own practice ( outside of what you're teaching ) and other scenarios that may arise. More about Dr. Lauren Tober: Dr Lauren Tober is a Clinical Psychologist, Senior Yoga Teacher and Author based in Mullumbimby, Australia. With a deep curiosity in health, healing, happiness and awakening, Lauren integrates the best of western psychology with ancient yogic wisdom, both on and off the mat. Lauren is the founder of the Yoga Psychology Institute and Mental Health Aware Yoga, the author of Mental Health Aware Yoga Yoga: A Guide for Yoga Teachers, host of the A Grateful Life Podcast and loves teaching yoga teachers about mental health, and health professionals about yoga. Her work is soulful without being new-agey. It's evidence-based, without being clinical. It's authentic, heartfelt and life-changing. I'll attach a couple of photos you're welcome to use to promote the episode, as well as a copy of my new book - Mental Health Aware Yoga Yoga: A Guide for Yoga Teachers. On this episode, spine specialist, Dr. Jasmine Hornberger shares a story of a gentleman who she treated successfully with Cox Technic® before and after back surgery. Jasmine Hornberger, DC Chiropractor, Functional Nutritionist, Yoga Teacher, Reiki Master I am a chiropractor, energy healer, and guide for whole-body healing. I founded Everyday Alignment in Grand Haven, Michigan, as a space where people could reconnect with their bodies and find lasting wellness - not just quick fixes. With a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College and over 300 hours of post-doctoral training in functional nutrition, I blend evidence-based care with intuitive, heart-centered healing. My approach combines chiropractic techniques like the gentle Cox® traction with holistic tools such as fire cupping, reiki, and sound therapy. My philosophy is simple: the body knows how to heal when we learn how to listen. I create a safe, grounded space for that listening to happen - where your nervous system can regulate, energy can shift, and healing can take root. When you step into my practice, you're not just getting an adjustment - you're being invited back into alignment with yourself. Resources: everyday-alignment.com The Cox 8 Table by Haven Medical

Anxiety is a natural response to stress—sometimes useful, sometimes overwhelming. This Yoga Nidra practice offers a gentle path inward, creating space for mental tension to soften and the nervous system to return to balance. Through soothing guidance, you'll be led into a deep state of rest where clarity, peace, and inner calm can emerge.Yoga Nidra offers powerful tools to support emotional well-being by slowing the fluctuations of the mind and gently guiding the body into a state of homeostasis. As you settle into stillness, brainwave patterns shift into restful rhythms that have been shown to support healing from anxiety, insomnia, stress, grief, depression, and PTSD.This practice is fully accessible—no prior experience is needed. There is no “wrong” way to do Yoga Nidra; simply lie down and be guided into deep relaxation and inner awareness. If you're experiencing severe anxiety or emotional distress, please seek support from a healthcare professional or consider reaching out through BetterHelp, which offers financial assistance for those in need.Support the showListen on Insight Timer https://insighttimer.com/elkejohnsonSubscribe @Restful Medicine on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVWbsKjfzIbDRM8PeZfwqww/videos?view=0Follow on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61560351875075Elke is a certified 500 hr Yoga Teacher focusing on Grief Yoga (R), Trauma Sensitive Yoga, and Yoga Nidra (Transformational Sleep). In this podcast episode, Karen Fabian, a seasoned yoga teacher with over 22 years of experience, discusses imposter syndrome and its impact on yoga instructors. She describes imposter syndrome as a feeling of inadequacy or self-doubt, where teachers feel they are "faking it" or not qualified enough, despite their training and expertise. This often stems from the pressure of public speaking, the deep responsibility of guiding students through a practice rooted in ancient traditions, and personal limiting beliefs tied to past experiences. Karen emphasizes the importance of detachment from external validation to build confidence, advocating for a consistent teaching approach, such as using a signature sequence, to reduce anxiety and foster authenticity. She shares practical strategies, like grounding exercises and pre-class breathing, to manage nerves and encourages teachers to reflect on their teaching experiences to find balance and authenticity. --Yoga teacher, Podcast Host, Author and Founder of Bare Bones Yoga, Karen Fabian has a background in rehabilitative medicine and healthcare. Her passion for anatomy and human movement is behind all she does, including her work with yoga teachers inside her program, The Yoga Anatomy Blueprint Learning Program. Along with her qualifications as a yoga teacher, she also earned her Certified Personal Trainer certification in 2017 and Corrective Exercise certification in 2019 with the National Association of Sports Medicine to deepen her knowledge of human movement. Her mission is to empower and educate yoga teachers so that they can share exceptional and accessible classes in their communities, online and in a variety of settings. She firmly believes in the ripple effect of yoga's benefits moving from teacher to student to family and community. Her podcast, “Conversations for Yoga Teachers” has over 300 episodes and over 200K downloads and shares lessons in anatomy, cueing and sequencing and shares stories from other yoga teachers and experts in related fields. She's written several books including “Stretched: Build Your Yoga Business, Grow Your Teaching Techniques,” and “Structure and Spirit.”Karen has her B.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from Boston University and her Master's in Health Care Administration from Simmons College. I'm back with Chapter 2 of the Bhagavad Gita! This is so dense I had to split it into two parts. Today we'll discuss verses 1-38. This chapter serves as a foundation for understanding the eternal nature of the soul (Atman) and the importance of non-attachment in the face of life's challenges. Let's look at Arjuna's emotional turmoil and Krishna's tough love approach, emphasizing the need for inner stability and the acceptance of life's transient nature. The emphasis on the immortality of the soul, the significance of understanding one's Dharma, and the win-win perspective in life. This chapter literally has all of Krishna's essential teachings. Making it a gold mine. Get ready to learn from the original life coach (Krishna):

Mother's day just passed and I thought this would be the perfect time to talk about something a lot of women deal with, especially after having kids: pelvic floor dysfunction. I invited Dr. Brianne Grogan, Physical Therapist and Pelvic Care Expert, to talk about the intricate relationship between trauma, stress, and pelvic floor health. I loved this conversation with Dr. Bri because she not only delves into practical techniques for pelvic floor release, sharing insights on effective cues for yoga teachers to enhance awareness and how to reconnect with the pelvic floor, but she also emphasizes the importance of understanding the pelvic area as a site of emotional storage and energetic power. Listen in as we explore how:
In this episode, I'm speaking to fellow yoga teachers who might feel a bit stuck after their initial 200-hour training. These feelings of limitation can be frustrating, but they can be important milestones on our journey to becoming therapeutic yoga teachers. I break down this growth into five stages: Awareness, Assessment, Adaptation, Attunement, and Application. Each is a blend of technical skills and emotional growth, all aimed at helping us support students dealing with pain or movement issues more effectively. I truly believe in the power of embracing vulnerability and committing to lifelong learning. So, if you're looking to deepen your practice and make a bigger impact, I'm here to offer guidance and encouragement.
In this powerful episode, Cate Stillman is joined by Patrick Heffernan and Bill Hershey for a raw, insightful conversation about the hidden money wounds affecting yoga teachers, healers, and holistic practitioners. They explore the “money shadow”—the subconscious resistance many wellness professionals have around finances, sales, and success—and how that resistance is directly tied to development stages, trauma, and nervous system conditioning. Whether you're feeling stuck financially or seeking a more empowered relationship with business, this episode delivers practical insights and soulful strategies for evolving beyond scarcity.
