Only Three Lads: Top 5 Singer-Songwriter Albums of the 80s (with Will Dailey)

This week, it's just "boys talking" (or lads conversing, if you will), as we welcome the sublime singer-songwriter Will Dailey as our Third Lad. Will has spent the past two decades perfecting a style that is not beholden to any one particular genre or set of influences, incorporating rock, folk, psych, funk, blues, and melodic pop into a catalogue where the songs always speak for themselves. Over the years, he's performed extensively with Eddie Vedder, played alongside Peter Buck, opened for the Wallflowers, performed multiple times at Farm Aid, and has had many songs placed in TV shows from 90210 to CSI and movies like the animated hit Barnyard. Now, Will has released his killer seventh record, and arguably his best yet, Boys Talking. But you won't find this gem on Spotify or Apple Music...this is not an album to simply stream and forget. Savor it on vinyl, CD, cassette, or digital through https://willdailey.bandcamp.com. We ask Will about the new record, from the single "Send Some Energy" to the infectious romp should-be-smash "Alright Already." You won't hear the latter on streaming services...but you will hear it here on O3L! Of course, we also delve into our focus topic this week, our Top 5 Singer-Songwriter Albums of the '80s. While "singer-songwriter" may instantly conjure up visions of troubadours with acoustic guitars like James Taylor, Jackson Browne, or Cat Stevens, we redefine the term for the high-tech '80s. Special thanks to Karen Allison from Propeller Sound Recordings for the introduction. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

If you crave more moments of feeling awake and fully present, this episode reveals how aliveness is already available in the ordinary. I'll never forget a moment in Montana when everything felt so alive - the colors in the sky, my family laughing, the fire crackling. But soon I wondered, why can't I feel this at home too? That question led me to discover that aliveness isn't rare, it's simply missed when we rush past it. Today, I share how to notice it more often. Action Steps: Practice presence: Slow down and let yourself truly notice small things. Savor simple rituals: Linger over coffee, watch the sunset, or enjoy your first bites of dinner. Put the phone away: Create space to be fully there with people and experiences. Use your breath: Take slow, intentional breaths to reconnect with your body. Invite joy daily: Play music, dance, or hug someone a little longer. Join the email list for Take The Exit - Be the first to step inside the story! More from Megan YouTube | Website |  Instagram

Host Margaret McSweeney takes us to the Oxfordshire countryside to Estelle Manor, one of the "hottest" destinations in England. Originally built in 1780 in Georgian style and rebuilt in 1908 in Jacobean style, Estelle Manor sits on 85 acres and is surrounded by 3,000 acres of parklands and gardens. In 2023, Ennismore opened this beautiful property as a private club and hotel. The kitchen gardens provide a bountiful and beautiful harvest of greens for the salads at the Glass House, one of the hotel's restaurants. Margaret enjoyed chatting with one of the chefs who was collecting the day's harvest from the gardener. The Potting Shed is the perfect place for a morning latte and pastries amongst the lush plants throughout the interior. Margaret's friend May and her dogs, Lulu and George joined her for this stay. They enjoyed a delicious lunch in the private library and dinner at Brasserie. Margaret especially enjoyed booking the Thermal Journey at the Eynsham Baths, an oasis of relaxation at Estelle Manor. This experience included exclusive access to the Tea Lounge where a tea master prepared a special blend for her. She purchased some tea to continue her wellness journey in Chicago. “Parenting is a spiritual path of growth and evolution.”  Have you ever noticed how children have a way of teaching us the deepest truths about life without ever saying a word? In their laughter, their play, their curiosity, and even their tantrums, they mirror back to us who we really are. In this episode of Soul Talk, I share the most important lessons my 2-year-old son has taught me, lessons about love, ego, happiness, and presence. Parenting, I've discovered, isn't just about raising a child. It's a profound spiritual path, one that stretches you, humbles you, and calls you to live with greater integrity and selflessness. From learning that happiness is our true nature, not something we chase, to remembering the sacredness of ordinary moments, I'll take you through the ways fatherhood has transformed me. You'll hear how children act as mirrors for our unhealed wounds, why they copy everything we do, and how their playfulness and curiosity invite us back to a simpler, freer way of living. If you've ever felt weighed down by life's seriousness, struggled to stay present with loved ones, or wondered how to break cycles of generational pain, this conversation will open your heart. Because at its core, parenting and life itself aren't about perfection. It's about choosing love, healing what we've carried, and leaving a legacy of wholeness for the next generation. Real joy isn't in the milestones or the accomplishments. Real joy is in the everyday moments, moments we often overlook until they're gone. And sometimes, it takes the eyes of a child to remind us of that truth. Timestamps: (00:04:23) -  Parenting as another world.  (00:05:39) -  Parenting = spiritual path/ego purification. (00:08:02) -  Selflessness, generational thinking & responsibility. (00:11:14) -  Child as mirror; fruit of inner work.   (00:13:23) - “They copy everything” — integrity & who-you-are matters.   (00:19:16) - Curiosity / non-judgement / in-the-moment emotional release.  (00:21:10) -  Happiness is our nature/stop seeking. (00:24:09) -  Savor ordinary moments; “he will never be this small again.”  (00:26:48) -  Unconditional love / “I'm lovable just the way I am.”  Some questions I ask: What conditions do I put on my happiness? What is parenting really like, beyond what we imagine? How does being a parent purify the ego? Can a man truly become a man without being responsible for another life? How do children reflect the parts of us we haven't healed? How much are kids absorbing from everything we do and say? Am I appreciating the ordinary moments that will never come again? In this episode, you will learn about: Why parenting is one of the most profound spiritual paths. How children mirror our subconscious patterns and unresolved wounds. The importance of integrity, why kids learn more from what we do than what we say. Lessons on play, presence, and embracing life's ordinary moments. How to reconnect with happiness as your natural state of being. The power of healing your own consciousness to gift your children freedom from generational pain.   Get in Touch: Email me at kuteblackson@kuteblackson.com Visit my website: www.kuteblackson.com Resources with Kute Blackson: Kute's Life-changing Path to Abundance & Miracles: https://www.8levelsofgratitude.com Free masterclass: Learn The Manifestation secret to Remove Mental Blocks & Invisible Barriers to Attract The Life of Abundance You Desire. A Prayer to Savor Summer's End

As summer fades, we’re reminded how fleeting seasons of beauty can feel. In our daily prayer and devotional, we ponder the last warm days, long evenings, and golden light as gifts to savor — yet as believers, our longing for light runs deeper than the sun’s rays. Scripture reminds us that before the sun ever rose, there was Light—the eternal Light of Christ. In today’s devotion and prayer, Lynette Kittle helps us reflect on the end of summer not just as a farewell to sunshine, but as a reminder of our identity as children of light. Just as we soak up summer’s glow, we are called to carry Christ’s light into a world often clouded by darkness. Summer’s end doesn’t mark the fading of joy, because our source of light and life is Jesus himself — the One who promises we will live forever in His radiant presence. Today's Bible Reading: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” – 1 Peter 2:9 Key Takeaways Summer light points us to the true Light of the World: Jesus. God’s Word reminds us that before the sun was created, God’s light already existed. Believers are called to be “children of light,” carrying His presence into a dark world. Every season — including endings — can draw us closer to Christ, our eternal source of joy and hope. Let’s Pray Together Dear Father, help us to savor these final days of summer, treasuring the light that reminds us of Your Son. Thank You for making us children of light, free from the grip of darkness. Teach us to walk daily in Your presence and shine brightly so that others are drawn to the Light of the World. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Calls to Action As summer ends, take time to thank God for His blessings in this season. Ask Him to help you carry His light into the fall and beyond.
