Hello again!  Can you sense it?  The NHL season is fast approaching and soon we will have our beloved sport back for our enjoyment.  In the meantime, we at the Two Man Forecheck will keep you informed of the goings on around the league. We start off with a frank discussion of the worst NHL contracts handed out this summer, a question posited by Mike on Facebook.  We had some interesting responses, the most intriguing being Brady Tkachuk signing with Ottawa.  Mike believes it may just be Dylan Larkin’s contract while Chris feels it is another Red Wings deal, the one with Mike Green, that may be worse.  Either way, both teams are going to experience trouble this upcoming season and these signings are not going to be the most helpful. On a sad note, Bill Foley, the owner of the Golden Knights, has lost his son at the age of 31.  Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Foley family. Vegas also has not signed Shea Theodore as of yet.  With the new season on the horizon, is this going to be an ongoing issue like Athanasiou last season, or will Vegas get the job done.  Mike feels like the Knights will not sign him and need to deal him, with Chris believing that a deal will get done.  Where do you feel this will end? Emerson Etem, the 2010 first round draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks, is back in the NHL.  He has received a PTO (professional try out) from the L.A. Kings.  The expectations were high when he was drafted, but what can we expect from the 26-year-old at this point in his career?  Top line is probably a reach, but could he still be a 3rdline player? Arizona may not be the cream of the crop in the NHL stats wise, but when it comes to the youth hockey in the state, they are without equal.  The development of youth hockey in the state of Arizona has been a boon to the masses.  A story by Craig Morgan lists the impressive stats regarding the growth of youth hockey in the area.  This may not mean a cup in their immediate future, but the Coyotes are doing what they can to help young players work towards their dreams of playing in the NHL. Speaking of dreams, the New York Rangers appear to be heading into a difficult season, but Nicholas Zararis has written an article that explains the lone scenario in which they could make the playoffs.  We believe this is a stretch at best, but we invite you to tell us why we may be wrong. We touch on the Vegas odds for total points for the NHL teams this upcoming season, and there are a few predictions that leave us scratching our heads. Bruce Cassidy believes that Zdeno Chara can play for the next 4 or 5 years.  Wonderful sentiment, but does he want to play?  Can he play at the same level he has played at his whole career?  The Forecheckers discuss. Finally, we introduce the next Twitter poll question…which Western Conference team will drop 5 points this upcoming season. And here it is, the latest edition of the Forecheck.  Give us a listen and let us know what you think!  Enjoy the show!

This past week was a busy time for the NHL and the Anaheim Ducks were no exception either. The Ducks lost Clayton Stoner and Shea Theodore in the Expansion Draft. There are also reports that Nate Thompson, Jonathan Bernier, and Jhonas Enroth could test the free agent market and may not return to Anaheim. Emerson Etem and Ryan Faragher are also set to become unrestricted free agents on July 1st as they both weren't given a qualifying offer. The Ducks are going to look to add some pieces to make another great run in the 2017-18 season. On this show, we talk about what other players the Ducks could add to their roster. Anaheim did re-sign Patrick Eaves for three more years and also Korbinian Holzer for two more years, but they still need to add more. We also talk about the NHL Entry Draft, Ducks player updates, and the announcement of Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya being named to the Hockey Hall of Hame.

The Anaheim Ducks have gone winless in their first three games(0-2-1). Coach Randy Carlyle has tried different lineups this past week in order to try to get a winning combination. The roster is constantly changing in Anaheim. This past week forwards Joseph Cramarossa and Mason Raymond were both placed on waivers. The Ducks claimed Emerson Etem off waivers from Vancouver and finally re-signed Rickard Rakell. Defensively, Simon Despres was injured in the season opener causing Carlyle to shuffle defensive pairings in the last two games. This week we analyze Anaheim's three losses and preview this week's upcoming games. We talk about the roster moves and some possible line combinations that could help the Ducks moving forward.

Who goes home with the Fedor Fedorov Memorial Trophy for preseason MVP, Jake Virtanen's role in the Canucks and spot on the roster, the emergence of Jack Skille and the troubles facing Emerson Etem as he (at the time of recording) is on waivers with the fear of going to Utica. Finally, the boys answer some great and hilarious questions from the listeners. From Emerson Etem to Ben Hutton's musical choices and some PON related questions as well, it's a very fun segment. In past few weeks surrounding July 1st, the Anaheim Ducks lost a few players and gained some as well. The Ducks saw Francois Beauchemin go to the Colorado Avalanche and Matt Beleskey went to the Boston Bruins. The Ducks also traded away Emerson Etem, Kyle Palmieri, and James Wisniewski. Bob Murray acquired a few replacements for the players lost. The Ducks traded a 2016 second round pick for Kevin Bieksa from the Vancouver Canucks. This move was made to fix the open spot that Beauchemin previously held. The Ducks also traded for Carl Hagelin from the New York Rangers. He is a speedy left winger that can replace Beleskey's role. Most recently the Ducks signed Shawn Horcoff to a one year deal. So did Murray do enough to replace the players lost? Eddy and I explore this question as we review the past moves by the Ducks in the recent weeks. We preview what the starting line-up may look like come October. We discuss the Ducks prospect camp that just happened this past weekend. We discuss the arrival of Paul Maclean and his impact on the team. Lastly we also answer several fan questions that cover all the topics discussed above, the NHL, and more.

The Anaheim Ducks finished the 2014-15 season just one game away from getting to the Stanley Cup Final. So one might expect the Ducks to not do much this off season right? Wrong. On day one of the NHL draft the Ducks traded Kyle Palmieri to the New Jersey Devils for a 41st pick and a draft pick for the 2016 draft. The trade was made on Friday June 26th, but declared official on the 27th because Palmieri was out of the country and not able to be reached immediately. Then early on the morning of day two of the draft the Ducks made two more trades. They sent Emerson Etem and their newly acquired second round pick (41st overall) to the New York Rangers for winger Carl Hagelin, a second round pick (59th overall), and a sixth round pick (179th overall). In their final deal of the day, the Ducks traded James Wisniewski to the Carolina Hurricanes for goaltender Anton Khudobin. On day one of the draft the Ducks selected Swedish defenseman Jacob Larsson. On day two they had six draft picks and selected center Julius Nattinen with the 59th overall pick, center Brent Gates with the 80th overall pick, winger Deven Sideroff with the 84th overall pick, center/winger Troy Terry with the 148th overall pick, defenseman Steven Ruggiero with the 178th overall pick, and goaltender Garrett Metcalf with the 179th overall pick. Lastly, we analyze the moves around the league and how the other team's may stack up next season.

They also have three restricted free agents in Chris Wagner, Emerson Etem, and Jakob Silfverberg. We discuss how the Ducks should handle their free agents this summer. Then we look at the Ducks drafts picks and who they could try to pick. We discuss some of the top picks in the draft and whether or not the Ducks should try to trade up in the draft.
