The Sharks still without 7 regulars manage to topple the streaking Flames in a defensive affair. A majority of the possession was carried by the Flames which was reflected in the shots on goal all 38 of them. Hill posted a solid .973 save percentage and really kept his team in the game from start to finish. It was good to see Hill make the most out of the start and made a case for a start against Winnipeg. The Couture and Barabanov provided the offense up until an empty netter by Hertl and Dahlan sealed the deal for team teal. Land, Ian and Al all talk about the unexpected victory while making some general observations about the contributions from the young guns. Stargazing: A Big D Puckcast | Defending Big D

The Dallas Stars have the same number of regulation wins in 2021-22 as the Arizona Coyotes, and one fewer than the Chicago Blackhawks. Yeah, it's discouraging. But, at nine games in, has it done actual damage? And can they reverse their own fortunes as they continue their swing through Western Canada – a traditional bonding experience that tends to produce good effects that don't necessarily show up during the trip? Wes and Mark sat down for a quick gut check on the Victory Green Gang's progress through the provinces. In this edition: How well is John Klingberg playing – and how well will his game age? Did Thomas Harley pass the eye test – and where would he fit if he came up to Dallas full-time? Should Denis Gurianov try to become a Swiss Army knife when he does his best work as an X-acto blade? Would you rather the Stars have a top six and a bottom six, or three scoring lines? Will Roope Hintz's puck luck change against the Calgary Flames, or will it have to wait until his hair gets a little bit longer? The Stars may not like their results right now, but can they make it worse by overreacting? How much worse can it get if they don't overreact and keep biffing away games they should have won? And why does it seem like they're sacrificing a ceiling so they can have a floor? Stargazing is a full 24 hours early this week! Klingberg death-magic for everyone! Get your predictions here, before they're completely overtaken by events. What are your burning questions? Leave them in the comments, or DM us @WesALawrence or @KETibbetts. Perhaps the most significant update in the Jack Eichel saga dropped on Wednesday as Kevin Weekes reported an apparent trade package offered by the Calgary Flames for the Sabres former captain. We touch on some of the context surrounding the Weekes tweet, and the likelihood that Matthew Tkachuk would be involved in a deal for Eichel. We also discuss how things could be framed from the Vegas perspective, as the Golden Knights are believed to be the other front runner for Eichel along with Calgary. But we start the show with further discussion of the Blackhawks case and the newest developments in the wake of Gary Bettman's press conference on Monday afternoon.

Dan and Shawn are joined by their NHL.com colleague Mike Zeisberger for a good old-fashioned hockey roundtable discussion. The topics include the Maple Leafs recent play, their roster flaws and goalie play. They touch on Cole Caufield getting sent down to the AHL and how it changes the complexion of the Calder Trophy race. Dan thinks the play of Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider has catupulted each of them into the Calder discussion and has made the Detroit Red Wings a really fun team to watch. Zeisberger compares Adam Fox to one of the all-time best defensemen and looks at the qualities that makes him such an impressive player. They look at the Calgary Flames and the impact that Darryl Sutter has had on the team and the excellent goaltending they've gotten so far from Jacob Markstrom. Has Frederik Andersen turned a corner in Carolina? And how have the Maple Leafs fans reacted to Andersen's recent play with his new team? It's a potpourri of hockey discussion, follow @TheRink on Twitter.

First, Hailey and guest cohost Sean Gentille discuss the continued fallout from the Jenner & Block report and the Chicago Blackhawks sexual assault case, including Brad Aldrich joining USA Hockey as a video coach just five months after leaving the Blackhawks, Donald Fehr's failure to protect Kyle Beach as NHLPA executive director, Alex DeBrincat's take on the situation, and much more. Then, they talk about Sidney Crosby's rough return to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup after offseason wrist surgery, with Sean in attendance for only the second time in nearly two years, what's causing the uptick in COVID-19 cases throughout the league, Sean throws Dom Luszczyszyn under the bus in discussing their NHL power rankings from last week when Dom implied the 6-1-1 Calgary Flames are a boring team. Next, The Athletic's Max Bultman joins the show to talk about the perhaps unexpectedly nice start to the season for the Detroit Red Wings, Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond establishing themselves early on as legitimate high-end NHL prospects, Dylan Larkin playing some of the best hockey of his career right now, how Tyler Bertuzzi's decision to remain unvaccinated will impact him and the team longterm, if Wings legend Henrik Zetterberg is a Hall of Famer or not, and much more. Plus, to close things out, Hailey and Sean open up the Hailbag and answer questions about Ian's whereabouts, why NHL teams fudge the official heights and weights of their players, and more.
