Trust the process. That phrase has become a part of pop culture verbiage in the last decade, thanks in large part to the Philadelphia 76ers. At the core of the phrase is to not worry about the dark times and difficult situations because brighter days are ahead. And what better way to describe Terra McGowan's collegiate softball career. A star high schooler on the diamond and in the classroom, McGowan went to Arizona State to play ball for the Sun Devils. Culturally, ASU wasn't the right fit for McGowan. Her mental health was too important. Eugene provided the perfect fit culturally. But the tough times continued as she had to sit out her freshman year after transferring…and then COVID…followed by an injury that cut short her junior year. But, after trusting the process, McGowan is flourishing as a senior for the Ducks…and enjoying every moment of it.This is the Mighty Oregon podcast. So the last few weeks, Duckies, Nicky Trendz and Manny Oso have been working on & releasing episodes for the new Group Discussions segment. So, while they may seem put-together on Social Media, today's episode they want to tell you about some Fails they've been having these last few weeks! But it happens to all of us, right? No one can have a truly perfect week. Manny Oso starts off with his problem with Gaming. Let's get to the point, where did all the damn Cut Scenes come from?! He's not a big fan of “sitting around to find out”. Nicky comes in with the frustration of her Birthday announcements. Not that it was bad, but let's just say Work Place Birthday Shout-Outs can backfire. Wait, isn't it HR's job to notify everyone of an upcoming Birthday? But don't worry. Cuz after that, there's nosy neighbors complaining about nothing, Porch Pirates ruing our recording upgrades, and unexpected entrance lines! Remember, adult maturity means choosing your battles. But anyways, you tell us! When did you first realize you started maturing as an Adult? What's the deal with porch pirates? I thought that was just a pandemic thing. At one time, his duck call collection was world's largest and depicted in his book, "The Legacy of the American Duck Call." In discussing American duck call origins, he describes where and why the duck call was likely invented, how and why it evolved, favorite call makers, how he got started and why he sold his collection. Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
The Miami Hurricanes will hope to find more success recruiting wide receivers and defensive tackles in the near future. The Hurricanes seem to be in a good spot recruiting 4-star WR Chance Robinson and 5-star JoJo Trader. They will never give up on 5-star Jeremiah Smith despite his verbal commitment to Ohio State. Why have the Canes not found more recent success at defensive tackle? They did add a quality recruit in the 2023 cycle in Joshua Horton. Can Miami find more bodies in the portal and in recruiting? Host Alex Donno answers questions from listeners. You can tweet the show at @LockedOnCanes. Donno details Miami's priorities when the transfer portal reopens in May. The Hurricanes will try and land USC transfer WR Gary Bryant Jr. His decision is seemingly coming down to Miami, Texas A&M and Oregon. There is a recent rumor that he did not make it to his Oregon visit. Are the Ducks out of contention? Donno weighs in on whether Don Chaney Jr. can become the top running back next year. He was asked who will win the starting quarterback job after Tyler Van Dyke leaves? Will it be Jacurri Brown's job to lose or will he have an open competition with Emory Williams? Alex previews Miami's NCAA Tournament matchup TONIGHT against Drake. Will Norchad Omier give it a go despite his grade 2 ankle sprain? Donno believes Norchad will be available, but whether or not he will start the game is yet to be seen. Can Miami win without him? The experts say no, but Alex thinks there is a path to victory. Hunting is conservation, and we all preach its merits. Unfortunately, too oftentimes we're mostly just preaching to our own choir members. Introduced by her immigrant father to the great outdoors while a child, it wasn't until pursuing a journalism degree that Gabriella Hoffman embraced guns and hunting--and found footing in hunting advocacy. The myriad ways anti-hunters undermine hunting value is mind-boggling, and we discuss ways you'd never imagine. For her, it's about setting the record straight. Via public speaking engagements, her District of Conservation podcast and social media platforms, she reaches the 80-percent middle ground that too many of us do not. Or cannot. And that's a very good thing. Guatemala is a new up-and-coming, work-in-progress GetDucks hunt. It'll eventually get there, but while visiting recently, was reminded of just how challenging these start-from-scratch hunts can be. Heading into year 2, Dan Lanning has exited the "honeymoon" phase and with how the offseason has gone, he has set expectations understandably high for 2023. The defense has to improve, but there's another area or 2 that need to be a high priority for the Ducks to hit their ceiling in 2023. On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin talks about the top priorities for the Ducks' head coach with Spring ball looming. One other thing for him to manage is incorporating new OC Will Stein into the team. What sorts of new things might he bring to Oregon's offense? Dana Altman's team fell short for the second straight year of making the NCAA Tournament, and the biggest culprit (not a person) has become rather clear. Will Richardson has caught the ire of many Oregon Basketball fans as his play has declined, and it's not something we've recently seen from a Duck on the basketball court. What happened? The days of the Pac-12 lacking a media deal continue to roll on, and it's hard to not think about what the long-term future could be for the Ducks beyond even this (still nonexistent) Pac-12 media rights deal. The Big 10 is the more likely option if Oregon were to one day leave the Pac-12, which would have some positive and negative things. On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin discusses potential future realignment for Oregon and how it might affect their future. Dan Lanning and his staff are adding a bevy of transfers to help overhaul Oregon's roster going forward, and there's some real cause for optimism on that front. With their March Madness hopes hanging by a thread, Oregon Basketball took on Washington State yesterday in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals after getting a first-round bye. A lifelong Virginian, 22 year-old Chris Lacativa cut his teeth hunting with his dad and was first introduced to Safari Club International at age 10. He's now their digital marketing specialist. Our conversation spins around hunting in Virginia, how a young person became involved with the preeminent First For Hunters organization in America, and its importance to all hunters of all ages--or damned well should be.
