My next guest, Ben Hankinson, has been someone I've wanted to get on the show since I got into the podcast game, because we spent a lot of time together years ago, as college teammates and training partners once we turned pro in the off-season. Mr. Hankinson is a Minnesota native, where he grew up going to school and playing sports for the powerhouse Edina Hornets. He went on to play Division 1 hockey for the hometown Minnesota Gophers. In the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, Ben was drafted in the 6th round, 107th overall to the New Jersey Devils, playing 448 professional games over seven seasons, 43 of them in the NHL. Wasn't much for goal scoring, but did carve his way to the NHL by chucking the knuckles a bit, as he was fighting in the heavyweight division. Those were scary individuals!! He's currently a certified NHLPA player Agent with Octagon Hockey, so we have a lot to discuss. Enjoy the conversation! For more information, please visit the links below. Dr. Jay Calvert & Dr. Jason Berkley catch up with Kristy Flannery aka Skating In Stilettos of The Hockey Writers! The docs & Kristy discuss the coaching carousel, Toronto's offseason, Lightning sweeping the Panthers, Rangers/Hurricanes, Oilers/Flames, Milan Lucic's ejection, and their predictions!
Ken Daneyko is the New Jersey Devils franchise leader in games played and penalty minutes. He was drafted before the team that moved from Colorado had a name. Now, he is a broadcaster for Devils telecasts on MSG Network as well as an analyst for NHL Network. He is a three-time Stanley Cup Champion and had his #3 retired by the franchise. In this episode, he talked in great detail about his transition from playing to being a broadcaster. He discussed the 2003 Stanley Cup Game 7 victory, which turned out to be his last game. He also talked about the rivalries he loved, the passion he still has for the game, and his relationship with Devils fans. Daneyko also addressed his partner on Devils games Steve Cangialosi stepping down after the 21-22 season. He also gave insight on the ceiling for young phenom Jack Hughes, on just how good the young superstar can actually be. Follow Mr. Devil on social media @KenDaneykoMSG.
On this episode of "House of Hockey," Breezy and Rae Rae discuss the second round playoff matchups and which teams are looking more like Stanley Cup Contenders. They talk about how support from your family like the Calgary Flames's Matthew Tkachuk and team bonding on the beach like the Tampa Bay Lightning make a difference. Meanwhile three team coaches are let go DeBoer, Bowness and Trotz and Breezy has some conspiracies about those decisions. The ladies also discuss the first-ever female skater picked in the WHL and the cocky or confident move made by a New Jersey Devils prospect. The Utica Comets fell to the Rochester Americans in the second round of the AHL playoffs. It was such an unfortunate end to an otherwise great season for Utica. However, it does raise the overall question as to which players are NHL ready? The obvious answer might be Alexander Holtz, however, some other players definitely deserve more recognition. The New Jersey Devils obviously need help at the goalie position. However, don't let that statement overshadow the fact that the Devils need some more offensive production. The big three of Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, and Jesper Bratt will most likely continue to strive for greatness. However, the roster needs a few more players capable of racking up more than 40 points. Subscribe to Locked On Devils! The Devils will need a new TV play-by-play announcer because Steve Cangialosi is stepping down. There might be a bigger opportunity for him. but, I'm sure he'll be in good hands. The playoffs may be heating up. However, some teams being eliminated is not what their organization needs. Especially if their team is in the red in terms of their salary cap outcome. The New Jersey Devils have a pretty decent opportunity to jump on some of these teams financially. Also, former HBSE President, Hugh Weber has stepped down from his position. I decided to a follow-up episode from one of my more recent concepts. Which is handing out team awards for the New Jersey Devils. The New Jersey Devils signed Topias Vilen (Finland) to an entry-level deal. Despite being a shutdown defenseman I don't really have high hopes for him. The past couple of days I have been talking about what the Devils should do with the 2nd overall pick. First, Max and Corey talk about the results of the NHL Draft Lottery, with the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils securing the first and second overall picks, respectively, and discuss The Athletic NHL's writers' picks in a mock draft for every lottery team. Then, the guys dive into Corey's new 2022 NHL Draft ranking and discuss why Shane Wright is still holding onto the No. 1 spot, Jiri Kulich's move into the top-15, Ivan Miroshnichenko returning to the list at No. 11, Connor Geekie's fall to No. 18, and more. Plus, to close things out, the guys open up the mailbag and answer listener questions about how the newly-instituted “you can't win the Draft Lottery more then twice in 5 years” system works, Matty Beniers and Mason Mctavish vs. Juraj Slafkovsky and Logan Cooley, how many defensemen will go in the first round of this year's draft, how big a concern Logan Cooley's size will be for NHL GMs, what the New Jersey Devils could get if they moved the No. 2 pick, if Matthew Savoie can play center, and what three toppings would Max and Corey get on a shared pizza. Which teams advance, and who's hitting the golf course early?? The first round still has plenty of drama left to unfold. The guys go ‘full contact', talking headbutts, Darnell Nurse's suspension, Jacob Trouba's hit on Sidney Crosby, and much more! NHL on TNT's Rick Tocchet joins the show and shared tons of playoff insight, including thoughts on officiating, and constant scrums. He dished on the differences between coaching and his new gig on TV, working with longtime friend Wayne Gretzky, and taking credit for Mario Lemieux's suggestions while coaching for the Penguins. The completion of the NHL Draft lottery means offseason decisions will be coming in hot. In #AskRayandDregsAnything the guys answer questions on the vault that is New York Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello, the likelihood the New Jersey Devils will keep the 2nd overall pick, and the strength of this year's draft. Coolbet Kris is off the grid, taking a well-deserved vacation. While he sips mixed drinks (Canadian Club of course), the guys fill-in to discuss their thoughts on playoff odds. In today's episode, I am revisiting yesterday's discussion with Jersey Joe. After the Draft Lottery concluded, I talked about how the New Jersey Devils shouldn't be shy about potentially trading the pick away for another key asset. I am going to elaborate more on my stance in today's episode. It will also lead into the second talking point for today in regards to Kevin Fiala's financial situation with the Minnesota Wild. Would it be worth trading the second overall pick for his services? Well, Tom Fitzgerald and others shared their thoughts in regards to the pending offseason for New Jersey. Rob Pizzo from CBC Sports and Jesse Granger from the Athletic recap game 5 wins in Toronto and Carolina, and for St. Louis in Minnesota and Los Angeles in Edmonton, ahead of three game fives this evening, including the Penguins at the Rangers in an elimination game, and Washington/Florida and Dallas/Calgary which are tied at two games. The boys welcome the Athletic's Shayna Goldman who discusses the NHL draft lottery which sees the Montreal Canadiens retain the top pick, with the New Jersey Devils moving up to 2nd. Lou Lamoriello's archaic way of running the New York Islanders, the Edmonton Oilers management failure to solidify McDavid and Draisaitl with a solution between the pipes in Oil country and if Tom Fitzgerald might be interested in moving the 2nd overall pick. Plus Rob gets Jesse's opinion on the Vezina, Norris and Calder trophy finalists, and the power of the intermission speech on the heels of Jason Spezza's passionate pleas to his teammates in Toronto. Following the results of the 2022 NHL Draft Lottery, co-hosts Adam Kimelman and Mike G. Morreale spend the show discussing their first mock drafts, which predict how the first 16 picks of the 2022 Upper Deck NHL Draft could go. Who will the Montreal Canadiens take at No. 1? What about the New Jersey Devils who climbed to No. 2? All that and more is discussed as the hosts give their reasoning behind picks 1-16.
Following the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils' big wins in the NHL Draft Lottery on Tuesday night, join a group of the local hosts from the Locked On NHL network for a full breakdown of the winners and losers of the night, with plenty of analysis on Shane Wright, Logan Cooley, Juraj Slafkovsky, Matthew Savoie and the rest of the top-billed prospects coming into the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Laura Saba (Locked On Canadiens), Robyn Leaño (Locked On Coyotes), Erica Lindsay Ayala (Locked On Kraken) and Russ Cohen (Locked On Flyers) begin with some talk about the movement in the top-5 of the draft, and what makes Shane Wright such a awesome prospect. Should the Seattle Kraken, Philadelphia Flyers and Arizona Coyotes be distraught after missing out on the top pick? Or are there plenty of great selections to be had in the 2-through-5 range? And how will the results of the lottery shape what lies ahead for the teams at the top of the draft board this summer? Plus, which teams should be most upset about their lack of lottery luck? The NHL Draft Lottery is tonight and the New Jersey Devils have an 8.5% chance of landing the first overall pick. General manager Tom Fitzgerald has stated that he is indeed open to trading the Devils' first-round draft selection. It might be the best move for the organization. Also, Barry Trotz was fired by Lou Lamoriello. Subscribe to Locked On Devils! Lindy Ruff is safe...for now. Because the New Jersey Devils have elected to shake up some of his staff members. Mark Recchi has been relieved of his duties, and Alain Nasreddine's contract will not be renewed. This goes to show that Tom Fitzgerald still believes in Ruff, and has the same mentality that I do. Maybe Ruff will get a front office position? Subscribe to Locked On Devils!
