It's the Wednesday after the boys fell to the Florida Panthers in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap yet another Edmonton Oilers win. On today's podcast, I examined what went wrong, discussed the Oilers' struggles, Trent Frederic's reported contract extension, and more. It's hard to feel much sunshine the day after the Edmonton Oilers bowed out of the Stanley Cup Final in only six games. After picking up massive OT wins in Games 1 and 4, the Oilers were in great shape heading back to Rogers Place on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the wheels really fell off when the lights got brightest, as the boys were outplayed by a sizeable margin in the following two. The Panthers were so much better in Games 5 and 6 that you almost wondered which Oilers team you were watching. It certainly wasn't the one that stormed through the first three rounds and made things look easy. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about being a sports fan before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was fantastic this week, and the messages were all over the map. As always, I finished up the show with another round of voicemails after yet another disappointing playoff exit. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode, because having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.Want to leave a voicemail for next week's show? It's do-or-die time for the Edmonton Oilers. Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final goes tonight in Florida, and the Stanley Cup will be in the building as the Panthers look to close out the series and win their second consecutive championship on home ice. The Oilers, meanwhile, are coming off a brutal Game 5 performance where they were completely outclassed in a 5-2 loss — generating next to nothing offensively and making costly errors in their own end.If they want any shot at forcing a Game 7 back at Rogers Place, they'll need a massive response tonight. The big question heading into this one: who starts in goal? Calvin Pickard was pulled after allowing 4 goals on 18 shots in Game 5, leaving the door open for Stuart Skinner to potentially reclaim the crease. We'll have all the latest lineup info and pre-game buzz covered in our Lineup Report, One Big Take, Giant Question, and the Bet365 Game Day Betting Challenge.Joining the show is Jeff Marek, host of The Sheet to break down what we've seen from the Oilers so far in the series, what has to change tonight, and how much belief there should still be in Edmonton's chances to pull off the comeback. It's Game 6. The Cup is on the line. Dan and Shawn, recording the episode on site at Rogers Place, dive into the details of rematch that we have in store for us in the Stanley Cup Final. They talk about the Oilers and their chase for the Cup after coming so close last year, losing in Game 7 by one goal to the Panthers. They discuss the Panthers and if winning the Cup again this season will make them a modern-day NHL dynasty. McDavid and what winning the Stanley Cup means for his legacy is a big part of the show, especially when Rosen and Roarke bring in NHL.com's Edmonton-based staff writer Derek Van Diest to go into all the details of what has led the Oilers back to the Stanley Cup Final. Van Diest, with an assist from Edmonton coach Kris Knoblauch, talks about the differences in the Oilers from last year to this year and why it can be series-changing for them. Van Diest also talks about what Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner went through after losing Game 7 to Florida last season and his process for overcoming that loss. Later in the episode, NHL.com's Washington-based senior writer Tom Gulitti joins Rosen and Roarke to go into Panthers talk, specifically about the impact Marchand has made since getting traded to Florida, Aleksander Barkov's role in keeping the Panthers on an even keel, the three players that play the villain role and why it all makes the team, according to Roarke, seem like a biker gang. They close the show by giving their predictions for the series and why they're leaning the way they are with Rosen saying their will be a new Stanley Cup champion and Roarke disagreeing.

Starting with Stuart Skinner's brilliance between the pipes, the goalie gave the Oilers a chance to win despite being shelled through most of the second period. From a Stars perspective, how can they not be gripping the stick right now with the way they're being stonewalled at every turn. Finally, Justin wrapped up his time on the podcast by giving the boys some gifts that he carried with him all the way from Jacksonville. From a collection of Floridian beers to some spirits from a local distillery to a corduroy hat that Jay has been wanting, the generosity was overwhelming and certainly appreciated.

Calvin Pickard made his first career playoff start and was huge in the third period to lock down the win and breathe life into the series. Then came Sunday night — a game that will be talked about for a long time in Edmonton. The Oilers mounted a stunning third-period comeback, erasing a two-goal deficit to force overtime. Other teams in this year's playoffs were 25-0 when leading by multiple goals, but not against this Oilers squad. Evan Bouchard was once again the hero with two massive goals to tie it up, before Leon Draisaitl capped off an incredible night with a powerplay overtime winner from his office. We'll break down everything that happened this weekend with our scoring summaries, deliver our One Big Take, and ask the Sherwood Ford Giant Question. Plus, we'll dive into what this comeback means for the Oilers moving forward, and how the LA Kings' psyche might be shaken heading back home for Game 5.Finally, we'll be joined by Oilers colour commentator Louie DeBrusk to get his thoughts on the Oilers' huge momentum swing, the performance of Calvin Pickard, and how confident he is that Edmonton can close out this series for the fourth straight year. You don't want to miss today's show!Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/OilersNation/ https://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/oilersnationdotcomhttps://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!

A questionable challenge by Kings head coach that ended up costing his team the game was the hot topic on the night. Friday afternoon means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been recorded, edited, and is set to massage your ear feelings. On this week's podcast, the guys discussed what needs to happen in Game 3 defensively, Wednesday's loss to the L.A. Kings, and much more. The boys started the Friday podcast with a delicious debate about the Oilers' defensive game and what specifically needs to improve for the team to avoid the chaos that's been happening in their zone through two games. Whether it's better decisions with the puck, supporting each other as passing options, or throwing the puck up the middle of the ice, there are countless ways Edmonton can improve in their zone that should lead to better results. The guys continued the conversation about Game 3 with a look at Calvin Pickard getting the start in favour of Stuart Skinner, and gave takes on whether this was the right decision by Knoblauch. Given that Skinner has allowed 11 goals on 58 shots through the first two games, it wasn't exactly surprising to see the goalie swap for Friday night, but the move is also not without risks. The other angle is that Calvin Pickard played well down the stretch and probably earned an opportunity to get back in the crease. From there, the discussion turned to the opposite end of the ice and what the Oilers need to do to generate more offence than we're seeing. Starting with getting more pucks on net, the Oilers really need to simplify their game and start doing more to make life uncomfortable for Darcy Kuemper. We also discussed the need for more bodies to the crease to fish for secondary chances and greasy playoff-like goals. Much like on the defensive side of the puck, there is a lot of room to improve. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week. Even though the team is down 0-2 in the first round, the ONR squad felt positive despite the circumstances. The question remains whether or not the Oilers feel just as bullish on what they're capable of doing on Friday back at Rogers Place. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Game 2 is in the books, and it's one the Oilers would like to forget. On today's edition of Oilersnation Everyday, Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin break down a rough night in Los Angeles as the Kings dominated the Oilers at Crypto.com Arena, skating away with a 6-2 win and a 2-0 lead in the series.Kris Knoblauch's decision to go nuclear—loading up the top line with both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl—backfired, as the Oilers struggled to generate any sustained offense when their stars weren't on the ice. Stuart Skinner had another difficult outing, giving up five goals on 28 shots before being pulled in the third period in favour of Calvin Pickard. While there were some positives—like the season debut of Evander Kane—it wasn't enough to flip the script in Game 2.We'll go through our scoring summary, hand out our one big take from the night, and ask our Sherwood Ford Giant Question: Who should start in net for Game 3 when the series shifts back to Edmonton?Later in the show, we'll be joined by Steve Peters, telestration producer for ESPN and a long-time NHL analyst, to break down the first two games of the series. The Edmonton Oilers went into Winnipeg on Sunday night and delivered a massive 4-1 win over the league-leading Jets. It was a complete effort from a team that continues to battle through injuries and adversity late in the season. With home-ice advantage in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs still in reach, the Oilers showed they're not backing down, even without a fully healthy roster. From the drop of the puck, they took control of the game and never really looked back.Scoring came from all throughout the lineup, with goals from Connor Brown, Corey Perry, Adam Henrique, and Viktor Arvidsson. It was the kind of depth production the Oilers will need in the postseason, and last night proved this group can step up when needed. Connor McDavid continued his torrid pace since returning from injury, playing a key role in the team's offensive success once again. He looked confident and dangerous every time he touched the puck. The win also marked the return of Stuart Skinner, who hadn't started since March 26th against the Dallas Stars. He wasn't overly busy, but he was sharp when called upon, stopping 24 of 25 shots and making a strong case to be the Game 1 starter for the Oilers in the playoffs. With Calvin Pickard playing well in Skinner's absence, the Oilers are now faced with a tough but positive decision in net.On today's episode of Oilersnation Everyday, Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin will break down last night's huge win with a full scoring summary, their one big take, and the Sherwood Ford Giant Question. They'll also preview tonight's massive showdown against the LA Kings at Rogers Place — a game that has huge implications in the Pacific Division and could be a preview of the first round.Plus, Louie DeBrusk will join the show for his weekly segment to share his thoughts on the Oilers' current injury luck, the team's recent form, and how Jay Woodcroft and his staff might approach the goaltending decision moving forward. We'll also look around the NHL playoff race and talk about where the Oilers fit in with just a few games remaining in the regular season. Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and ready to help you through the rest of your work week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Wednesday's Oilers game, the What Chaos boys, and much more. The guys started the Thursday episode of Real Life with a discussion about Chalmers ignoring the boys regarding the March 18th Oilers game despite being invited by both Baggedmilk and Tyler. For some reason, Chalmers claims he did not notice the missed phone calls or messages but wanted to thank the boys for the gesture anyway.Changing gears, the podcast got derailed by the What Chaos boys after DJ Bean lost his wallet in the podcast studio. After a few minutes of chaos — pardon the pun — DJ found his wallet, and the boys left the studio. What no one expected, however, is that Chalmers used the opportunity to air out a six-year-old beef he has with Pete Blackburn allegedly stealing one of his tweets. As you'll hear, Chalmers may have an argument about his stolen tweet, but the real question is how Pete will respond.Sticking with the topic of fighting, the guys walked through some old fighting stories from when they were younger and how it's incredible that no one had camera phones in those days. Needless to say, if there is a benefit to being older, it has to be that most of our childhood was not captured on social media. Thankfully, those insane memories are gone forever. Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the guys walked through Wednesday's game against the Dallas Stars and how it was an exciting night at Rogers Place even though the team couldn't complete the comeback. Despite a horrible run of luck, injuries, and strong goaltending by Jake Oettinger, the game was all over the map, from excitement to heartbreaking. I may be a day late with the record of this week's podcast, but none of us should be surprised with a name like Better Lait Than Never. On this week's podcast, we're discussing Leon Draisaitl's 50-goal watch, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' heater, line combinations, and more.To kick off this week's podcast, I started with a quick recap of my trip to Toronto from last week, how nice it was to visit that city, and how much I love leaving. There's just something about having a 30-minute cab ride to go four km that bothers me, you know? It's not like we were trying to move around in rush hour — a whole other problem entirely — but instead just trying to get to work quickly without walking everywhere. I also touched on how happy I am that my beloved Vikings won't be touching Aaron Rogers... at least for now.Getting back to the Oilers, I started with a recap of Tuesday's game against the Utah Hockey Club after we got some last-minute tickets and wandered in after the first few minutes. Not only did the Oilers need to blow a team out like that, but it was nice to have a stress-free night at the rink where the outcome was never in question. When was the last time you could say that? Not to mention, being at Rogers Place for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' second straight three-point game was the cherry on top. Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about using your speakerphone in public before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails that were as entertaining as they were all over the map. The inbox was so funny again this week, and I got plenty of laughs from your ideas, feedback, and voicemails. As always, I sat back and laughed while listening to everything on your mind over the last seven days.
