Since our week off, we've become a sports talk show. In the first half we chatted about Ovechkin's record (and differing levels of interest around it) while discussing other interesting records. Later, we covered the overlooked (by us) Habs and wondered why more people don't utilize the 10-key portion of their keyboard.
After a historic weekend in the NHL, Frank and Jason decided to record this week's edition of the podcast a little earlier. The two fired things up on a Sunday night to talk about Alex Ovechkin finishing his chase of the NHL's all-time goal record as he found the back of the net for the 895th time and officially passed Wayne Gretzky at the top of the goal-scoring leaderboard. The guys talked about the moment on Long Island, the ceremony, Ovechkin's career and everything else surrounding the record-breaking moment. From there, they talked about some other records and accomplishments that they're love to see get accomplished. From Sidney Crosby to Connor McDavid to Cale Makar, there are some players who have a chance to do some pretty special things. That also led to some talk about just how much longer Crosby and Ovechkin will even be in the league. They also talked about some goal records that could be accomplished and some that are just way too crazy to be matched.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Calgary Flames playoff chances both this year and beyond and also the playoff races in each conference. They wrapped up by talking about the memorabilia craze that followed Ovechkin's chase of the record and they took a quick look at the two playoff races in either conference.0:55 - Ovi sets the record24:50 - Other records to watch27:05 - How much longer does Sid have?36:30 - Buy or Sell43:30 - The memorabilia blitz51:30 - Habs punch their ticketWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? The Philadelphia Flyers came out sharp against the Montreal Canadiens, scoring in the first 5 minutes and carrying that 1-0 lead into the third period. But it did not last, as the Habs were able to take control and outshoot the Orange & Black over the final 40 minutes 22-16 en route to a 3-2 win.Ryan Poehling set a new career high with his 12th goal of the year and added an assist late, but it was Lane Hutson and the Canadiens who got the last laugh with 3 goals in the 3rd and officially eliminated the Philadelphia Flyers from playoff contention for its 5th straight year.Charlie, Kelly & Bill break down the loss and what it means for Philly's draft lottery odds.
Alex Ovechkin breaks Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals record very shortly before we hit record. We sit down in person to discuss the end of the GR8 Chase.
