There's more than a few photos kicking around of Brendan Gallagher, Andrei Markov and Tomas Plekanec all together on the Habs. They were all on the team from 2012 when Gallagher got called up to Markov's departure at the end of the 2016-2017 season. All three of those guys played over 900 games for the bleu-blanc-rouge. I feel like only Markov has a real chance of having his number up in the rafters and even then I wouldn't consider it a lock. All the same Brendan Gallagher is certainly a player who I think most Habs fans will remember fondly for a very long time. Pretty sure it's the right time to move on, the team is younger and poor Gally is just not going to be a part of whatever the final form of this roster looks like. Still I can be a little sad about a guy who has often been described as “the heart and soul” of the team no longer wearing the CH. Plus during the pandemic he did some genuinely funny tiktok videos. Even if they're just lip-synching to scenes from TV shows that's still more personally than we see from 99% of hockey players. He posted one when they were going into the weird hockey bubble set to the Hunger Games theme song that I can't find and that was extremely funny. Anyways, apparently screw worms are coming to America this summer. I guess look it up on the internet if you want to get extra grossed out. Scott and Jon both watched Ron Howard's 2015 movie about Moby Dick In The Heart of the Sea and it seemed that they both were pretty mixed on the whole thing. Finally, Scott still really, really hates Andor. You'd think it starred Matt Damon or something. Over on Garbage Time we talk about how crazy it is that Marvel and DC still work month to month and pay artists and writers by the page when they're now controlled by monstrous entities like Disney and Warner Bros. We then discover that there is SO MUCH MORE Walking Dead than you think there is. If you would like to show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time that would be appreciated. The front-office blueprint is officially changing in Oil Country. The Oil Stream is live right here on Edmonton Sports Talk as the fellas react to a massive wave of executive promotions, dissect major coaching friction down in Sin City, and break down a devastating, landscape-shifting piece of injury news that has completely shut down an elite Oilers blueliner's season.   On Today's Show: Stan Bowman Reshapes the Front Office: The Edmonton Oilers got a major head start on restructuring their executive food chain yesterday afternoon, announcing a massive sweep of promotions within hockey operations. Headlining the changes is data guru Michael Parkatti, who gets elevated to Vice President of Analytics and Technology, signalling a massive analytical push for the franchise. Plus, a very familiar local face joins the big club's upper management, with former Edmonton Oil Kings President and GM Kirt Hill being named Assistant General Manager of Player Procurement. The boys break down what this sweeping executive remodel means for the organization's summer philosophy.   The Cassidy & McCrimmon Standoff: Massive waves coming out of Nevada that have major ripple effects right here in Edmonton. Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy didn't hold back during his appearance on Spittin' Chiclets, voicing serious frustration over the organization blocking him from interviewing for open jobs—including the vacancy in Edmonton. Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon fired back with some strong words of his own, and the fellas dive directly into the drama. Does this put Cassidy on the radar for the Oilers down the road, and what does it say about the stability in Vegas? Evan Bouchard   Ruled Out at Worlds: An absolute disaster scenario has been confirmed for the Oilers. Following a terrifying, illegal hit to the head from American defender Ryan Lindgren that left him briefly unconscious on Thursday, Evan Bouchard has officially been ruled out for the remainder of the World Championships. While Stan Bowman provided some comfort by stating the injury isn't as bad as it initially looked, the boys discuss the massive anxiety gripping Oil Country regarding Bouchard's long-term health and his critical recovery timeline ahead of training camp.   NHL ECF Game 5 Tonight: Playoff hockey returns to Raleigh tonight with a trip to the Stanley Cup Final on the line. The Carolina Hurricanes hold a commanding 3-1 series stranglehold and are looking to finish off the Montreal Canadiens on home ice. Can the Habs conjure up some road magic to stave off elimination, or is Carolina punching their ticket to meet Vegas?   So much to dive into in just a single hour! Montreal looked completely overmatched in Game 4 as Carolina dominated 43-18 in shots and continued to suffocate the Canadiens with their structured, relentless style. At times, the Hurricanes exposed the inexperience of Montreal’s young core while showing the payoff of eight years of organizational consistency under Rod Brind’Amour. Despite four straight home losses and a noticeably quieter Bell Centre, the playoff run is still providing valuable experience for the Habs’ future. Meanwhile, Vegas stunned Colorado with a sweep, continuing an incredible run under John Tortorella while piling up goals and benefiting from the Avalanche battling injuries and inconsistent performances. Colorado still feels like a contender moving forward, though looming front-office uncertainty, limited cap space and foot-speed concerns may lead to bigger questions about the franchise’s direction in the near future. Mitch Marner’s playoff success after leaving Toronto for Vegas has also become a major storyline, with Leafs fans frustrated watching him thrive in a deeper lineup where he no longer has to carry the team every night.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today's podcast, I discussed the Oilers' coaching Plan Bs, Vegas getting through to the Stanley Cup, Habs vs. Hurricanes, and more. Needless to say, we're in full offseason mode around here.I kicked off this week's episode with a quick recap of my trip to Toronto and how wild it is to be an Oilers fan in other cities across the country. Regardless of the mess going on in their own market, all anyone ever wants to talk about is what's going on in Edmonton. I also looked at the Oilers' current coach stalemate and how the guy they want, Bruce Cassidy, is still being tied up by the Vegas Golden Knights. But with Vegas off to the Stanley Cup Final, it sure doesn't seem like Edmonton is going to get an answer on their man any time soon. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before closing out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quiet again this week, but even so, I still had a wonderful time with everyone's takes on whatever you wanted to talk about. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. Having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better. Want to leave a voicemail for next week's show? Do it here!
