Who Is She? - My My Orca Card a 2023 single on Father/Daughter. Seattle supergroup Who Is She?, made up of Bree McKenna of Tacocat, Robin Edwards AKA Lisa Prank, and Chastity Belt frontwoman Julia Shapiro, have been making sweetly sardonic music since 2017, when they released their debut record Seattle Gossip. After a few years of silence from the trio, the band went from Who Is She? to Where Are They? (Admittedly, busy with their other bands.) But they came back in a big way when they were invited to be the house band for Seattle's newly established hockey team The Kraken for a weekend and played “My My Orca Card” at “Jeff Bezos' Climate Pledge Arena.” A reimagining of Le Tigre's 1999 song “My My Metrocard,” the song takes aim at Amazon's head honcho and multi-billionaire Bezos. “Oh, no /Jeffrey Bezos /He's such /A total jerk /Shut down /all the bookstores /Billionaires /Do not work.” They were swiftly fired after one night of playing the song, making it the most punk, anti-establishment music moment to happen in Seattle in far too long. Hear more about the story of how this legendary moment came to be in KEXP's Dusty Henry's interview with the band prior to their performance and watch Lisa Prank's KEXP in-studio session from 2016 at KEXP.org.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Seattle supergroup Who Is She (members of Chastity Belt, Tacocat, and Lisa Prank) were slated last week for a residency performing at the Kraken hockey games at Climate Pledge Arena. The band only made it one performance before they were asked to not come back after singing a song calling Amazon founder Jeff Bezos a “total jerk.” Prior to these developments, KEXP's Dusty Henry did a tongue-in-cheek interview with the band about their love of hockey and jock jams.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/sound/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

OmegaBall Founder Anthony Dittmann sits down with Derek Spartz to discuss what it takes to create a whole new sport, how to market and monetize it and how they're raising capital. Sam and Derek catch up and discuss their experiences at an OmegaBall event as well as what potential they see in this very early investment opportunity in the sports industry. About Anthony Dittmann: Anthony Dittmann began his career working for the San Diego Chargers until 1998. After the NFL, he worked for ESPN in several capacities; all involving the design, construction and management of ESPN-owned events including the ESPY Awards and culminating as the Director of Operations as well as Event Director for X Games in Los Angeles, Barcelona, Aspen and Tignes, France. Since the X Games, Dittmann has produced events for NBC Sports and The Enthusiast Network before ultimately starting Kilowatt Events with several colleagues. Kilowatt specializes in designing and executing major events in music, sports and entertainment that are typically televised. Major clients include ESPN, NetJets, C3 Presents, Pepsi, The LA Times and the NFL. In 2018, Dittmann patented (with his colleague Rafael Munaro), a foldable (to 2” wide) dual stream event recycle/trash bin that is poised to rid the industry of the ubiquitous, but ineffective cardboard event trash can. Cerobins have since been bought by major events and facilities including Sofi Stadium and Climate Pledge Arena. In 2020, Anthony invented a new sport called OmegaBall. Reimagining and revolutionizing the game of soccer with three teams, three goals, no offsides, and no throw-ins (cornerkicks only) in a circular field. All packed into a one-hour match in a field that is half the size of a traditional soccer field. Headquartered in San Diego, OmegaBall has already appeared on the Fox and ESPN networks with semi-professional players on the pitch. OmegaBall is also expanding into competitive youth and recreational opportunities through a new partnership with USSSA. OmegaBall is…. Chaos on the Pitch! Anthony also spent several years as an adjunct professor in the sport business graduate program at California State University, Long Beach and the University of San Francisco. He is also a helicopter pilot. DISCLOSURE: Sam Marks is related to Anthony Dittmann and, as of this episode's release, has not invested any capital into OmegaBall. The Gonzaga Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide meet for the second half of a home and home series that was played first in Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena and now in Birmingham for the return game. We also take a look at specific keys to victory for the Bulldogs, including how Anton Watson defends star freshman Brandon Miller, who wins the turnover battle, and how Gonzaga's secondary scorers (Julian Strawther and Rasir Bolton) respond after lackluster performances earlier in the week (in Strawther's case, due to illness). We close the show discussing Fardaws Aimaq's sudden decision to enter the transfer portal out of Texas Tech and what that could mean for the Zags, and we discuss a 2024 5-star prospect the Bulldogs are expressing interest in! Longtime Seattle Times reporter Geoff Baker joined the podcast. He has a new book due out in November entitled, “Rising From the Deep: The Seattle Kraken, a Tenacious Push for Expansion, and the Emerald City's Sports Revival” https://tinyurl.com/2rw3w2j3. In the book, he chronicles the origin of the newest NHL franchise. The story behind the Kraken's arrival is deep-rooted in Seattle sports history, beginning with the departure in 2008 of the Seattle SuperSonics. The Kraken lead to the remodeling of Key Arena into the new Climate Pledge Arena. Still, Covid-19 and construction delays made it difficult for the Kraken to get off the ground. Baker explains the whole process and discusses how the Kraken may be a pawn in Seattle's real goal to return the Sonics back to the Pacific Northwest.
