This episode of The Other Side of the Bell, featuring trumpet performer, composer and sound designer Tim Larkin, is brought to you by Bob Reeves Brass. This episode also appears as a video episode on our YouTube channel, you can find it here: "Tim Larkin trumpet interview" About Tim Larkin: Tim Larkin is a composer, trumpet player, and sound designer whose work spans decades across the gaming, jazz, and film industries. His credits include Portal, Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, and HBO's The Rat Pack, with past live performances alongside legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Sheila E., and Huey Lewis. Tim won an Academy Award creating sound design for Best Animated Short at the 75th Academy Awards for his work on The ChubbChubbs! Setting Standards is his long-awaited debut jazz album, and was released on August 1, 2025 on all major platforms. The album is a curated collection of reimagined classics and one original composition that captures the emotional breadth, musical depth, and cinematic storytelling that have defined Larkin's career across jazz, film, and video games. Setting Standards includes interpretations of songs by Bobby Caldwell, David Foster, Jimmy Webb, and more anchored by his own original composition, “Gumshoes.” “This album isn't about chasing trends,” says Larkin. “It's about honoring the songs that stuck with me and reimagining them in a way that feels honest keeping the soul intact but letting them breathe in a new space.” Setting Standards blends cinematic jazz, soulful arrangements, and live instrumentation into a cohesive listening experience that's both nostalgic and forward thinking. With contributions from longtime collaborators including John Paris (Earth, Wind & Fire) and renowned arrangers Maurizio Metalli, Lennie Moore and Joris Hoogsteder, the album is a modern take on the classic jazz experience. Today, we’re bringing you the best from the KUOW Newsroom… Transgender people in Washington’s state prisons are still fighting for better treatment, years after the Department of Corrections agreed to make changes. Now that Congress has cut funding for the federal food assistance program SNAP, hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians who use the program are trying to figure out what this means for them. And even after 50 years, Dungeons and Dragons is still growing in popularity, thanks to “actual play podcasts” like Dimension 20, which stopped by Climate Pledge Arena last month. July 18, 2025 was the last day of Wu-Tang Clan’s farewell concert tour, The Final Chamber. One of their stops was at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, where KEXP’s Dusty Henry, Martin Douglas, and Larry Mizell, Jr. rapped alongside thousands of fans. We recap the concert and pay tribute to the group’s decades-long legacy. “Wu-Tang Clan is our generation’s equivalent of the Beatles — it’s not even close,” Martin asserts in the conversation. “They basically created an entirely new style out of an existing form of music. They wrapped up this whole mythology inside of it, from the use of samples to the aliases to, of course, the logo.” Photo Credit: Kyle Christy Support the show: kexp.org/deeper Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/sound/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We've discovered a time-warp. The Mariners win in Minnesota, despite Luis Castillo blowing a 5-run lead in the 4th. Luckily, the bullpen stepped up and the M's were able to do some of the little things to get the winning run in the 9th and walk away with a 6-5 W. We saw Munoz in the 8th and Brash in the 9th and Dan Wilson didn't have us questioning his moves. It felt like a good fundamental win. :30- Mariners Morning After The Mariners squeaked out a 6-5 win and it was a Julio sac fly that won it for the M's, his second of the game and the season… and thus “Sac Watch” has begun. :45- Caitlin Clark was in town last night as the Storm fell to the Fever in front of a sellout home crowd.
