Markus Gerszi is back on the show again to discuss his new project, Alpha Hippie. Markus has been one of the most influential people in the CrossFit business space over the last decade, and has been a great mentor for us over the years in building FitTown Jupiter. When we was originally on the show (Episode 054), he was working with Gymwright and was transitioning to launching his own brand to help gym owners, Gym Breakthrough. While Markus was tremendously successful helping other gym owners grow their business, his real passion is helping people build themselves. He always found himself coaching the person more than the business, and has stepped fully into that role with Alpha Hippie. In this episode, Markus shares how he was able to break through some of his own limiting patterns, and how he now helps Men live their life with clarity and purpose so they can be better business owners, husbands, and Dads.
Markus started from the bottom now we here ;) Entrepreneur. As a former gym owner he built, ran and eventually sold CrossFit Active Performance - which was voted the #1 CrossFit gym in Orange County (southern CA) several times. He has been helping gym owners build their businesses for 11 years. He's helped launch and grow the non-profit Barbells for Boobs. Markus developed the website and marketing platform that helped launch Reebok CrossFit ONE, and then the first 25 Reebok affiliates all over the world. Markus developed the most robust/powerful website and automation system in the fitness industry - Barbell Logic. He helped build Barbell Business. He built and sold Gymwright. Markus has over 10,000 hours of 1-on-1 coaching gym owners over the past decade. Over 1500 gym owners served. He absolutely loves what he does. His mission is to empower the passionate and motivated gym owners of the world, to help them clarify their mission/purpose, fix their business strategy to match their unique vision, and then help them build the client acquisition, integration, and engagement systems to maximize their impact and revenue, in a way that allows them to make a great living doing what they love, with a lifestyle they enjoy, and while providing real jobs to their team.
In this week’s episode, I’m excited to interview Markus Gerszi, the owner of Gymwright. Markus coaches gym owners on how to run a better business, and he has been one of the most influential people in the growth of CrossFit Palm Beach over the last 3 years. In fact, when we started working with Markus and Gymwright starting in the back half of 2017, it led to the fastest growing 6-month period that we have ever experienced at CFPB. Markus has a unique perspective on the industry as a former affiliate owner, and now as a business coach, as well as someone who is leading a team of business coaches. We break down the current state of the gym industry, including which trends you should jump on, and which trends you need to ignore. We also talk a lot about marketing, how he defines being a coach, and what success really looks like in our industry.
Last week, I was asked on the Gymwright podcast for one piece of advice that I would give to all gym owners out there. My response..."get outside your own four walls". Getting outside our own four walls can be the necessary mental and physical break we need as affiliate owners to find inspiration, gain clarity, and make better decisions. It can also help to renew our love for the business when we aren't constantly immersed in the stress of the day-to-day. But I'm not talking about traveling to the CrossFit Games or attending another Olympic weightlifting seminar. This episode elaborates further on what I mean by getting outside your own four walls and the ways I have found it to be the most beneficial over the last 4 years.
