If you feel like your practice starts falling apart the second you step away… if your team constantly needs your approval, your input, or your problem-solving all day long… this episode is for you. Dr. Yazdan breaks down why so many dentists unintentionally become micromanagers, how it slowly creates burnout, and what it actually takes to build a strong, empowered team that can function without your constant involvement. This episode is a deep conversation about leadership, control, perfectionism, burnout, emotional regulation, delegation, and creating systems that allow your practice — and your life — to feel lighter. Because real leadership is not about controlling everyone around you. It's about building a practice that runs well because of the systems, standards, and culture you created. In This Episode, We Discuss: • The hidden difference between leadership and micromanagement • Why so many dentists accidentally train their teams to depend on them • The emotional and mental cost of over-functioning in your practice • How perfectionism impacts leadership and team confidence • Why fear often drives micromanaging behaviors • The reason your team may struggle to take initiative • How constant correction destroys ownership and confidence • Why some mistakes are necessary for growth • The importance of creating clear expectations and systems • How to stop becoming the “solution” for every problem • Questions that help your team think independently • The difference between delegating tasks vs delegating outcomes • How emotionally reactive leadership creates anxious teams • Why calm leadership creates stability and better performance • The connection between burnout and controlling behavior • Why female practice owners often carry extra emotional labor • How to create a practice that supports your life instead of consuming it • What true freedom and leadership actually look like as a business owner Ready to Take It to the Next Level? An empty schedule feels stressful. But what if neither actually determines your results? In this episode, we're breaking down one of the biggest mindset traps dental practice owners fall into—believing their schedule dictates their success. Because the truth is… it doesn't. You'll learn how to stop riding the emotional rollercoaster of “full vs. empty” and start operating from a place of certainty, control, and confidence—no matter what your schedule looks like. What You'll Learn: • Why a full schedule can create a false sense of security • How an empty schedule triggers scarcity and reactive decision-making • Real examples of full days falling apart—and slow days turning into big production • The difference between circumstance vs. mindset in your results • How to develop confidence that isn't dependent on your schedule Ready to Take It to the Next Level? Thanks to our partners Promotive, WickedFile, Maverick Shop Owners, and OverdryveHow much cash did your shop actually make last month — and how much of it is still sitting in the bank? If you paid off every dollar of debt tomorrow, would you have anything left to cover a bad month? In this episode, Hunt Demarest, CPA, goes solo to tackle a topic he says trips up shop owners more than almost anything else: cash and reserves. He breaks down the simple rule of thumb for how much you should be keeping in the bank, then walks through four specific mistakes he sees shop owners make — from draining the business dry to (on the flip side) hoarding so much cash it becomes a legal liability, to the sneaky problem of debt payoff plans that leave owners debt-free and cash-poor at the same time. Hunt also shares the exact system he recommends clients use to set their own distributions so reserves never dip below where they need to be. Whether you're sitting on six figures in the checking account or wondering why you're always scrambling before payroll, this episode is a practical gut-check on the number that actually keeps a shop alive: cash. What You'll Learn...02:41 Cash vs. profit — the two flows of money every owner confuses03:30 The reserve rule of thumb — 3 to 6 months of overhead05:03 Why your ideal reserve depends on your shop's cash flow pattern06:55 Mistake #1 — Draining your business of its own cash09:51 The fix — how to set your monthly distribution the right way14:24 Mistake #2 — The "champagne problem" of keeping too much cash16:14 The profit-hold account trick — protecting cash without spending it17:01 Mistake #3 — Parking reserves where they earn zero interest19:12 Mistake #4 — Paying off debt too aggressively21:06 Cash and debt beats debt-free and broke — Hunt's ruleIf you're ready to stop guessing how much cash your shop should be holding, start building a reserve strategy that actually fits your business, and finally understand why "debt-free" isn't always the win it sounds like — this episode is essential listening. Thanks to our partner, PromotivePromotive has over 40 years of recruiting and automotive experience. You can be committed and wrong. Disciplined and wrong. Clear, focused, consistent — and still building someone else's version of your life.In this episode, I walk you through the master key underneath the seven laws in Living Life on the Next Level — one word I resisted with everything in me: yield. I tell you what yielding actually is (and isn't), what it cost me in 2016 when my wife walked away from 21 years at Georgetown University, and what happened in 2018 when the business dried up, the mortgage fell behind, and a letter showed up that I still can't explain with numbers — and I'm an accountant. In this episode:Why yielding is not passivity, not a one-time event, and the hardest thing on the entire listThe three dimensions of yielding — surrendering the outcome, listening before acting, and taking the next turn (not the whole map)Why the fire you're in right now might be evidence you did something right, not wrongIf you've ever hit a goal and still heard that quiet voice ask, "Is this it?" — this episode is the answer nobody gave you. Press play.
What has been the cost to women of relying on research that was never designed around female physiology?Dr. Stacy Sims is an exercise physiologist, nutrition scientist, and bestselling author of ROAR, which challenged the idea that women should train and fuel like men, and Next Level, which focuses on health, performance, and physiology through perimenopause and menopause. Over two decades of research, she has become one of the leading voices reshaping how we understand women's health, with a message that has become synonymous with her work: women are not small men. That line started as a throwaway teaching point during her postdoc at Stanford, and it has since become a paradigm shift. At the center of this conversation is a quiet, costly problem. For decades, much of the science on training, nutrition, and medicine was built on male bodies and then applied to women as if they were simply smaller versions of men. Stacy walks through what that gap has cost, why the literature thins out for women between the ages of thirty and fifty, and how a hormone fluctuation can get mistaken for a panic attack, leading to solutions that were never going to fully work.Stacy and Mike then move into what to actually do about it. They get into why "eat less, train more" often backfires and drives the body into a low energy state, why fasting through the morning for women can dysregulate appetite and stress hormones, and why lifting heavier loads may protect not just muscle and bone but the aging brain. They also draw the line that runs through the whole conversation, the symptoms of perimenopause are the physiology, not the person, and explore why this episode isn't just for the women in the community. Stacy explains why having men in the conversation helps drive action, what partners can actually do... listen first rather than rush to fix... and why the rising noise around menopause online, along with AI tools built on outdated male data, makes clear thinking here more valuable than ever.In this conversation, we explore:Why so much health and performance research was never actually done on womenWhat "women are not small men" really means in training and nutritionWhy "eat less, train more" often backfires for women through midlifeWhy fasting through the morning can dysregulate appetite and stress hormonesHow lifting heavier loads may help protect the aging brainWhy men belong in this conversation, and how to show up for the women in their livesWhy most AI health tools still run on outdated male dataWhether this conversation is about your body or the body of someone you love, it offers a science-backed way to understand what's happening and what to do next.Links & ResourcesSubscribe to our YouTube Channel for more conversations at the intersection of high performance, leadership, and wellbeing: https://www.youtube.com/c/FindingMasteryGet exclusive discounts and support our amazing sponsors!Go to: https://findingmastery.com/sponsors/Subscribe to the Finding Mastery newsletter for weekly high performance insights: https://www.findingmastery.com/newsletterDownload Dr. Mike's Morning Mindset Routine: findingmastery.com/morningmindsetFollow on YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, and XDr. Stacy Sims' Books: ROAR and Next LevelSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Almost everything your doctor knows about you comes from a snapshot: a blood pressure reading, an annual lab, a handful of numbers meant to represent a constantly changing human body. That's beginning to change. New sensors promise far more continuous health data, and AI may finally give us the ability to interpret it. But medicine has been through a data revolution before, and almost none of what people initially promised actually happened. In the first episode of NextLevel, Mike Haney sits down with Dr. Robert Wachter, Chair of the Department of Medicine at UCSF and one of medicine's leading thinkers on technological change, to ask what healthcare's messy transition from paper to electronic records can teach us about the AI era.Wachter explains why digitizing medicine didn't transform care on its own, why your doctor is already overwhelmed by data, and why simply sending them continuous feeds from your watch, ring, or future sensors would make the problem worse. The missing piece is an intelligence layer: a system capable of deciding what matters, helping patients act when they can, and pulling clinicians in when they're actually needed. They also explore how AI is changing the balance of knowledge between doctors and patients, the danger of trusting systems that are usually right, what healthcare can learn from airplane cockpits, and why collecting more health data may be much easier than figuring out what any of it means.Free course: Improve your metabolic healthGet our free email course on how glucose, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and measurement can help you build habits that support better energy and long-term health: https://levels.link/wnl
Thanks to our Partners, Pico Technology, and AutelWatch Full Video EpisodePowered circuit testers tend to produce strong opinions. Some specialists consider them indispensable time-savers. Others see them as dangerous tools that make it far too easy to damage a circuit. In this episode, Matt examines where tools such as the Power Probe, Autel powered circuit tester, and metered test lights fit into an automotive diagnostic process. The ability to apply power or ground can be dangerous without an understanding of the circuit, but the same can be said of jumper wires, scan tools, oscilloscopes, and nearly every other useful diagnostic tool.Matt also opens the episode with thoughts on the unexpectedly short Conor McGregor and Max Holloway fight. Rather than focusing only on the disappointing result, he considers the discipline and preparation required to attempt something difficult, even when the attempt ultimately fails. That leads to a broader shop question: How should a leader respond when a capable employee puts in the work, takes on a difficult task, and still comes up short? In This EpisodeThe difference between a powered circuit tester and a metered test lightWhy Power Probe-style tools remain controversialThe risks of applying power or ground to an unknown circuitWhy Matt prefers the speed and simplicity of the Power Probe IIIUsing powered testers on motors, relays, power windows, and power seatsTesting fuel-pump power and ground circuitsUsing the tester's circuit breaker to evaluate whether a circuit can carry currentWhy unloaded voltage readings can be misleadingThe value of placing a known load on a circuitWhy corrosion can pass a voltage test but fail under loadMatt's experience with the Lisle and TOPDON metered test lightsWhy an incandescent test light is often more useful than an LED test lightThe difference between a dangerous tool and an improperly used toolKey TakeawaysA voltage reading does not necessarily prove that a circuit can perform useful work. A connection may show battery voltage through a meter and still fail when current is required.A metered test light can combine the speed of a traditional test light with an actual voltage reading and a known electrical load. Matt regularly uses this type of tester when checking fuses and evaluating circuit integrity.A powered circuit tester can also shorten the process of separating a failed component from a power-feed or ground problem. Matt describes using one at a fuel pump to verify the power side, ground side, and pump operation without repeatedly changing tools or building several different jumper-wire arrangements. The tool does make applying power or ground unusually easy. That convenience is precisely why the user needs to understand the circuit before pressing the switch. The Larger QuestionShould a tool be dismissed because it can cause damage in the wrong hands?A powered circuit tester can damage a circuit. A jumper wire can do the same. A scan tool can lead to expensive parts replacement when its information is misunderstood. The potential for misuse does not necessarily make the tool inappropriate. It may mean the specialist needs more knowledge before using it.Listener QuestionDo powered circuit testers belong in a professional diagnostic arsenal? Are they valuable time-savers, unnecessary risks, or a little of both? Man, this one’s special. Doug Champion is back on the show for round two, and honestly, this is exactly why I love doing this podcast — you meet someone, you have a great conversation, and a year later you’re picking right back up like no time passed at all. If you don’t know Doug, he’s the guy behind Champion Living, building the first real athlete development system for rodeo — fitness, nutrition, mental training, the whole thing — because for way too long rodeo has been behind the curve compared to sports like motocross when it comes to taking care of its athletes. His brother Richie Champion is a legend in bareback riding, nine-time NFR qualifier, and Doug just watched him ride his last horses ever at the Calgary Stampede. That story alone is worth the price of admission — chills, dude. But this conversation goes so much deeper than rodeo. We get into the real stuff: what it actually costs to build a business that’s bigger than you, the guilt of missing time with your kids while you’re out chasing elk or building something for your family’s future, losing a dog that raised you into adulthood, and the discipline it takes to stop lying to yourself about why things keep going sideways. We also get into hunting — my brutal 2024 season, tracking a bull nine miles after he got up and walked off, Doug’s buddy Travis and the giant mule deer that got away (and then didn’t), and why I’m changing my whole approach this year to actually see more animals instead of just walking more miles. This is one of those episodes where we start talking about rodeo and end up talking about life. Grab your coffee, settle in, and let’s get after it. Sponsors onX Hunt Big shoutout to onX for this episode. They just rolled out a new Share feature inside the Go Track section of the app — think old-school Garmin Rino “see your buddy on the map” tech, but done right for 2024. You and your hunting partner can now share your live location with each other right in the app (works when you’re in service, so keep that in mind). It’s a small feature but a genuinely useful one if you hunt with a crew. Check it out at onxmaps.com and use code TRO for a discount on your membership. Bridger Watch This one’s personal — I’ve been building this thing for a long time and I’m proud of what it’s become. Bridger Watch is a smartwatch built specifically for hunters. It does everything a normal smartwatch does (health tracking, fitness, texts) but the mapping is where it separates itself — best-in-class offline maps on a wearable, and a direct integration with onX so you can send waypoints, tracks, and markups straight to your watch. Park your truck, drop a waypoint in onX, send it to your wrist — now if your phone dies or you lose it, you’ve still got your way back. It’s not trying to replace your phone maps, it’s the backup you didn’t know you needed. Go check it out at bridgerwatch.com Timestamps 00:00 – Sponsors: onX Hunt’s new Share feature & Bridger Watch’s smartwatch/onX integration 03:30 – Welcome back, Doug! Catching up a year later 05:00 – Doug’s all-in on hunting now — the struggle of finding time to scout with a growing business 10:00 – Burnout, growing a “lifestyle business” into a real company, and redefining what leveling up looks like 14:00 – The guilt of stepping away from the kids, and why the newborn years might actually be easier 18:00 – The 40th birthday Baldy lap story — missing fireworks, and what your kids actually see when you chase big goals 21:00 – What’s driving the business boom — investing in mentorship and the Alex Hormozi workshop 24:00 – Richie Champion’s final rodeo at the Calgary Stampede — the 90-point ride, the old horse, and an ending you couldn’t script 30:00 – Losing a 16-year-old dog, leaning into faith, and the journaling/affirmation practice that changed everything 36:00 – Business wins piling up — the Hooey collab, PBR partnership talks, and the new Montana State rodeo development program 39:00 – Why rodeo culture is behind other sports on fitness (and the motocross parallel) 44:00 – What actually separates great athletes at 22 — fearlessness, trainability, and coming to terms with risk 47:00 – Doug’s comeback from a broken back — seven years off, CrossFit, and the best ride of his life 50:00 – Cody’s rough 2024 season — a release malfunction, and tracking a bull nine miles after a bad shot 53:00 – 2024 plans: Utah spike hunt, general tags, Travis’s giant mule deer story, and using LandTrust to find new ground 56:00 – Closing thoughts on staying present, choosing positivity, and where to find the Champion Living x Hooey collab Three Key Takeaways Discipline beats intensity, every time. Both Doug and Cody hammer the same point from two totally different worlds (rodeo and elk hunting): the guys who succeed aren’t the ones grinding 80 hours a week or hiking 20 miles a day — they’re the ones being methodical, controlling what they can control, and getting a little better every single day. Effort without direction just burns you out. Presence is a practice, not a personality trait. Doug’s shift toward journaling, writing daily affirmations, and consciously catching negative thought patterns didn’t happen overnight — it took months before he noticed a real shift. The takeaway: rewiring how you show up for your business, your family, and yourself is trainable, even if it feels slow and unglamorous at first. The guilt of chasing your goals doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. Whether it’s missing a birthday for a training run or being gone during hunting season, both guys wrestle with feeling like they’re stealing time from their families. But as Doug’s own kid showed him — sometimes what looks like absence to you looks like inspiration to them.

What suffering is abounding in your life right now that will possibly unlock your next level of blessing if you remain faithful. Jesus consoled Peter after he denied Christ 3 times and restored him in the eyes of the disciples. Peter preached on Pentecost. 3,000 were saved and added to the church. Next level blessing. Where is yours?
What if falling in love with your next level was the thing that changed everything? In this episode, I teach one of the most powerful reframes you will ever come across when it comes to going after your next level because most of us have been taught that reaching our vision is about focusing harder, taking more action, and grinding towards what we want. And while that is part of the picture - it is not the whole picture. When you fall in love with someone, you do not have to remind yourself to think about them. You cannot get them off your mind. And when you bring that same quality of energy, that warmth, that certainty, that natural and easeful orientation, to your next level, your vision, the version of you on the other side everything shifts.Because the next level that is meant for you is the love child of your conscious and subconscious mind working together. And in this episode, I show you exactly what it takes to get both minds in the room, moving in the same direction, towards the same beloved.Topics covered on Why The Law Of Attraction Isn't Working:Why focusing on your vision isn't enough the two projections running simultaneously in your conscious and unconscious mindWhy obsessive focus can be counterproductive and the specific suggestion your unconscious mind is receiving when you forcing your vision"Guess what? You don't trust me" what your unconscious mind is really hearing when you force the focusWhat actually happens when the underlying belief clears and why the next level becomes a walk in the parkHow to fall in love with your next level, your vision, and the version of you on the other sideThe love child of your conscious and unconscious mind - what aligned manifestation actually looks and feels like.Connect with Rebecca Haydon:Apply to work with meThe Subconscious MembershipCome say hi on Instagram | Facebook | YouTube
What if the biggest thing holding your business back isn’t a lack of strategy—but the invisible habits, beliefs, and relationships that are quietly draining your potential? In this episode, I reveal the three shifts that took me from crippling anxiety and self-sabotage to building a multimillion-dollar business without sacrificing my health or family. You’ll discover why success isn’t about adding more to your plate, but removing the “e-brakes” that keep you stuck, replacing scarcity with abundance, and surrounding yourself with people who elevate your standards. If you’ve been working harder but not seeing the breakthrough you know you’re capable of, this conversation will challenge the way you think about growth. By the end of this episode, you’ll know exactly what needs to change to become truly unstoppable. Let me know what you think of today’s episode! Did you learn something new? Am I missing something? Is there something that has or hasn’t worked for you in your path to success? Send me an IG DM or email and let me know how I can help you level up in life. Today, Peggy sits down for an exclusive, 'Ask the Expert' feature with veterinarian Dr.Jan van Dijk of AHV discusses how common stressors in dairy cows, such as calving, transition, heat stress, pen moves, and high production, can disrupt immune function and lead to issues like metritis, mastitis, temperature spikes, reduced rumination, and lost milk that can affect an entire lactation.Dr. Van Dijk explains the damage caused by both overreacting and underreacting immune responses and introduces AHV's Aspi, a plant-extracted immunomodulatory complementary feed given orally as a tablet/liquid or bolus, used proactively or reactively, with no milk withhold. In a farm comparison to an injectable nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory in monitored cows, Aspi lowered temperature more gradually but for longer, maintained activity, improved rumination, and greatly reduced repeat temperature spikes over 20 days. This episode is brought to you by AHVYour herd's health is our priority. You keep hoping for more money. Praying for it. Working harder for it. But hope was never the plan — becoming was.In this episode, Jay Moore breaks down why so many people stay stuck in the same money struggles their whole lives, and why going back to school, getting another certification, or grinding harder almost never solves it. He traces the pattern back through his own family — four generations, the same struggle — and shows you the real question you've never been asked: not "what do I need to do," but "who do I need to become."In this episode, you'll learn:Why culture shapes your money identity before anyone ever "teaches" you anything about moneyWhy money is energy — and why you can't access more of it until your energy rises to meet itHow Genesis 1:26 and Joshua 1:8 lay out the exact mindset shift you need to cross over intoYou don't need another degree. Thanks to our Partners, Pico Technology, and AutelWatch Full Video EpisodeIn this episode, Matt digs into a question that sits underneath a lot of shop economics, technician frustration, and industry culture: who should be responsible for buying the tools and equipment required to do the work a shop advertises? The discussion starts with a real-world example involving a dealership service department that did not have a connector depinning tool available, leaving a mechanical or technical specialist considering buying the tool personally. From there, Matt explores where the line should be drawn between personal hand tools and shop-owned equipment.Basic hand tools may be one thing. But scan tools, diagnostic equipment, specialty service tools, alignment systems, AC machines, tire equipment, connector service kits, and timing tools raise a different question entirely. If a shop sells those capabilities to customers, should the employee have to make the investment?Matt also looks at the long-term consequences of pushing too much cost onto specialists. If a specialist builds up enough personal tooling and equipment to perform a broad range of services, the industry may be quietly encouraging them to leave employment and open their own shop. That may work for some, but it also shrinks the talent pool, increases turnover risk, and may contribute to people leaving the industry altogether. The episode closes with a shift into diagnostic tool history, including a short “Mount Rushmore” of influential tools and equipment: the SCA, the Edge/Sun systems, the Fluke 87, and the Snap-on Vantage.Watch Reel VideoKey TopicsWhere the line falls between personal tools and shop-owned equipmentWhy “the specialist can just buy it” may be an unstable business strategyThe difference between basic hand tools and equipment required to sell a serviceHow tool investment affects technician income, risk, and career decisionsWhy shops should think about replacement cost when evaluating pay and retentionHow industry culture can unintentionally make shop ownership look like the only real path upwardThe difference between a tool investment working out and it actually being a good decisionVintage diagnostic equipment that changed how specialists workedNotable IdeasA shop advertising a capability should be equipped to perform that capability. If a shop sells alignments, AC service, tire work, connector repair, diagnostics, or programming, it becomes hard to justify the employee carrying the primary equipment burden. There may be some economic logic to a specialist buying a tool when they are guaranteed the work and the tool pays for itself. But that logic becomes unstable when the employee is taking the risk while the business is selling the service.Tool ownership can become a shadow path to business ownership. When specialists personally acquire enough tools and equipment to operate independently, the industry may be unintentionally training them to leave.Retention math has to include replacement cost. Production numbers matter, but so does the cost of losing a capable person, leaving a bay or role vacant, recruiting someone new, training them, and risking a revolving-door reputation.A tool purchase can “work out” without having been the smartest move. Matt reflects on his own history of buying diagnostic equipment and scan tools, noting that it helped build capability and reputation, but that does not automatically mean it was the best financial decision.Listener QuestionWhat tools or equipment have you been expected to buy personally?Where do you think the line should be between employee responsibility and shop responsibility?Should mechanical and technical specialists be expected to own anything beyond basic hand tools, or should the shop provide everything needed to perform the services it sells?Mentioned Diagnostic EquipmentSCA diagnostic equipmentSun/Edge PC-based engine analyzer systemsFluke 87 digital multimeterSnap-on VantageSnap-on Vantage ProOTC PerceptionSun engine analyzersFour-gas and five-gas analyzersPull Quotes“What's the logic of owning a business that advertises certain capabilities, but the shop itself is ill-equipped to be able to do that?”“If part of my purpose is to take care of my people, then one feature of that is to try to maximize their take-home pay and minimize their financial responsibilities to do the jobs they were hired to do.”“It may have worked out. Thanks to our Partners, NAPA Auto Care and NAPA TRACS Watch Full Video Episode What does it take to build one of the fastest-growing auto repair businesses while leveraging artificial intelligence to improve performance at every level? In this episode, Carm Capriotto welcomes Jesse Jackson, Founder and CEO of Mango Automotive, to discuss how she scaled from zero to eight locations in less than five years. Jesse shares the leadership lessons learned through rapid growth, how custom AI tools are helping improve customer experience and operational consistency, and why she believes it's time to rethink how independent shop owners plan their exit from the industry. What You'll Learn How Mango Automotive expanded from a startup to eight locations through strategic acquisitions. The leadership challenges that come with rapid growth and why building a corporate support team became essential. The three cultural principles that drive employee engagement: never yell, bonus well, and have fun.How AI is being used to measure standard operating procedures and improve accountability. Why analyzing phone conversations with AI helps advisors convert more callers into customers. How providing realistic price ranges over the phone can improve appointment conversion rates. How AI-driven follow-up processes dramatically increased maintenance rebooking rates.Practical ways any shop owner can use tools like ChatGPT or Claude to evaluate service advisor performance without spending hours reviewing phone calls. Why thousands of shop owners approaching retirement may be leaving significant business value on the table. How Jesse's cooperative exit model could help independent shop owners achieve substantially higher business valuations than traditional private equity acquisitions. Artificial intelligence isn't replacing great leadership; it's making great operators even better. Combined with a strong culture, measurable processes, and innovative thinking about business ownership, AI can help repair shops improve customer experience, scale more effectively, and create greater long-term value for both. There's a room you're not yet in. Maybe it's a literal room — the board meeting, the investor briefing, the conversation at the level above yours where decisions get made that shape your organization and your career. Maybe it's more of a concept — the level of credibility where people seek out your perspective rather than just your report. Where you're consulted, not just informed. Becoming a trusted advisor to a board is one of those topics that sounds like it belongs to a specific career stage. But the behaviors, habits, and communication patterns that make someone genuinely valuable at board level are not developed the week before you need them. They're built over years — and the leader who starts now will be genuinely ready when the moment comes. In this episode of Leading Women in Tech, Toni Collis breaks down exactly what board-level credibility looks like, how it's built, and what you can start doing right now — wherever you are in your career. This is for you if: ➡️ You're the leader actively working toward the C-suite who knows the board relationship is her frontier ➡️ You're the woman considering fractional work, NED roles, or an encore career — and who needs to understand how to position herself for board-level advisory work ➡️ You're the Director or VP who's not thinking about boards yet — and who is going to leave this episode with the most immediately actionable content, because the seeds of board credibility are planted years before the harvest What's covered: ➡️ What being a trusted advisor actually means — and why the conventional picture is wrong. Boards don't want information providers. They want people who help them think. ➡️ What boards actually want from an advisor — the real version, not the official one. Five specific capabilities that make someone genuinely valuable in a board context, including pattern recognition, intellectual honesty under pressure, and executive listening ➡️ The communication shift that changes everything — stop leading with the what and start leading with the so what. The four-part trusted advisor structure that works in any high-stakes senior room ➡️ How to build the relationships that create board-level credibility — including why most people start too late, how to be useful before you make an ask, and why making your thinking visible is one of the most effective career investments available to you ➡️ What you can start doing right now — five specific behaviors for the earlier-career listener that compound into board-level credibility over time. Including reading the rooms above yours, practicing strategic language in every meeting you're already in, and volunteering for board-visible work ➡️ The fractional and encore career dimension — how to translate your experience into board language, how to be findable for the right roles, and how to build the portfolio of evidence that boards and fractional hiring organizations are actually looking for Whether you want the C-suite, a non-executive director role, a fractional career, or you just want to be the kind of leader who gets consulted rather than just informed — this episode gives you the framework. __________________________ ||||| PERSONEN |||||
Gemma Luzzi was collecting a $75-a-week paycheck for walking two dogs when she decided to start introducing herself as CEO. Not because she had a team, or a client roster, or a plan. Because she'd already left one identity behind and refused to build the next one small. This episode is a masterclass in becoming someone before your results catch up. In this episode we dive into:Why "acting like the CEO" before you have a single client is the highest-leverage move most new business owners never makeHow a $75-a-week dog walking business replaced a full corporate income in three monthsWhy selling a thriving six-figure business came with more guilt than starting it didHow in-person networking events became Gemma's most reliable client and content pipelineFurloughed, Fed Up, and $75 A WeekGemma spent years in corporate recruiting and HR, was furloughed during COVID, then called back in January 2021 for being too good at her jobShe told her boss three separate times she wasn't happy. New responsibilities, then a raise. The third time, her boss said, "That's for you to figure out now"Every night after a draining 9-to-5, she set a 5-minute timer and researched what she actually wanted, letting the timer run longer each weekShe left corporate in November with no business plan, using a booked trip to Aruba as the deadline that would force her out the doorActing Like The CEO Before There Was Anything To RunAt $75 a week walking two dogs, she was embarrassed enough to hide it from people who knew her old corporate titleOne blunt question from someone close, "are you actually going to make this work," pushed her to a decision: start acting like the CEO of the company todayShe introduced herself as CEO at networking events and wrote SOPs and employee handbooks while she still had exactly two dogs and one clientThe business replaced her full corporate income in three months, then scaled to six figures, until 7-day weeks and 15 overnights straight forced her to finally learn to delegateFrom Dog Walking To Discernment-Based CoachingShe sold the business to her own right-hand employee, then sat in a hotel parking lot wrestling the guilt of walking away from something that looked perfect on paperShe rebuilt her identity again, bought a blazer, tried to sound like other coaches online, until she went back to cursing and just being herselfThat shift became Profit Partner, her coaching container built on self-trust and discernment instead of one-size-fits-all frameworksShe launched CEO Sessions, in-person networking events in New Jersey that sell out every time and now double as her most reliable client and content pipelineThis conversation is proof there's no such thing as one way to build a business, only the way that actually feels true to you. Whether you're sitting on the couch with your first $75 paycheck or you're the one who has to decide it's time to sell what you built, this episode offers the permission to keep evolving instead of picking one identity and staying stuck in it.Looking for more on this? Join me on August 14th in Chicago for the VIP Dinner Experience. Limited seats available. Save yours here: https://link.shaminataylor.com/vip-dinner-experience In this episode of the Unapologetically Rich Show, "Why You're Working So Hard But Still Not at Your Next Level," I'm sharing why the very survival skills that helped you build your success may now be the exact thing keeping you from more money, more peace, more love, and more freedom. If you're the woman who's building a business, leading a team, growing your career, raising a family, or carrying so much responsibility that success has started to feel heavier than you expected, you're going to recognize yourself in this conversation. I'm breaking down the hidden power patterns I see over and over again in high achieving women and showing you why your next level isn't asking you to work harder. It's asking you to stop leading from survival. I'll walk you through how these emotional patterns shape the way you make money, lead your business, receive support, build relationships, and determine what you're truly able to receive. You'll learn why your nervous system, not your work ethic, may be the real thing capping your growth, why success can still feel incredibly heavy, and why your next level requires more receiving, more support, and less self abandonment. As I say throughout this episode, your pattern is pricing your life. Once you can see the pattern that's been running the show, you can stop letting it make every decision for you and start building your next level from power instead of pressure. In this episode, you'll learn: ✨ Why working harder may actually be keeping you from your next level ✨ The hidden power patterns that drive high achieving women ✨ How survival mode impacts your money, business, relationships, and ability to receive ✨ Why your nervous system, not your work ethic, may be capping your growth ✨ How proving, pleasing, pushing, controlling, and protecting show up in your life and business ✨ Why your next level requires more receiving, more support, and self-trust instead of more hustle Ready to break the patterns keeping you stuck?
Fan Mail: Tell Wendy how you're saying yes to yourself! In this episode, Wendy sits down with Edit B. Kiss, a holistic mentor, success habit coach, #1 bestselling author, Humanitarian Award winner, and international speaker. Edit specializes in guiding individuals from misery to peace within 30 days by integrating ancient healing techniques with neuroscience. After a 15-year career in petroleum engineering, she pivoted to holistic healing—a transformation that exemplifies everything she teaches: that evolution is possible at any stage, and that your body's messages are invitations to rise to the next level. They explore:How physical symptoms and dis-ease are signals you're meant to grow and release what's holding you backThe power of ancestral and karmic healing: understanding how past wounds shape current struggles, and how releasing those stuck energies opens new creative channels and possibilitiesRecognizing synchronicities and signs from the universe as affirmation you're on the right path, and learning to surrender rather than force outcomesEdit's philosophy centers on continuous evolution. You don't have one purpose in life; you have many, and they shift as you grow. When you stop resisting and start surrendering, when you release the stuck emotions from old memories and honor what your body is telling you, that's when the magic happens.
