WE'RE BACK for another week of SMASHFILM! This week we're talking James Wan's INSIDIOUS, A jump-scare riddled mess of a plot that somehow manages to be a great watch. Featuring Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson, Barbara Hershey, and the kid from Iron Man 3, all delivering perfectly adequate performances, highlighted by incredibly creepy visuals, in-your-face score, and a twist ending that was apparently good enough to spawn THREE sequels! Listen for awards, our thoughts, and all the trivia we could dig up!
Nolan is joined by Emily von Seele, Philip Yount, Kat Adams, and Thomas Foster to discuss Tobe Hooper's POLTERGEIST (1982) and James Wan's INSIDIOUS (2011). The group recounts recent horror discoveries before the angry spirits inhabiting their homes try to take possession of their bodies in order to carry out nefarious agendas. Other movies discussed on this episode: HAPPY DEATH DAY, TORSO, REVENGE, THE ENDLESS, THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD, MON MON MON MONSTERS, THE CONJURING, LAKE BODOM, THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER, WILD WILD COUNTRY, THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER 2, THE NINTH GATE, INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2 As will always be the case with this show, be aware that our discussion contains spoilers. If you want to watch the movies before listening to the show, there are a couple of ways you can do so. Both POLTERGEIST and INSIDIOUS are available for purchase on Blu-ray as well as being available to rent via video-on-demand at Amazon, YouTube, VUDU, iTunes, and Google Play. Chris and Paul jump into one of modern horror's biggest franchises by covering James Wan's Insidious (2010)! Paul was scared shitless but Chris was correct in suggesting Insidious, a cool storyline with some great actors and performances and not as many jump scares as first thought. Chris also gets super curious by the new Day of The Dead movie after having zero interest before the trailer and we introduce a running segment called 'The 43 Second Challenge' where Paul tries to give a recap of the most recent X-Files episode (the theme song goes for 43 second, hence the name). We are both on Letterboxd now too! Follow our viewing habits there at 'Squirter' and 'Chris Dicker'!! Happy listening!! ----------- Into The Minds of Madness is a (generally) weekly horror movie podcast hosted by two good pals; the horror aficionado Chris Dicker and the easily terrified Paul McWhirter. Covering the classics, the just released, the oft-forgotten gems and the train wrecks of the genre. From monster flicks to home invasion thrillers, body horror to campy slashers and everything in between. Jump on iTunes and give us a head-spinning 5 stars and write us a review if you so desire!
