Exile, Humiliation, and the Power of the Tribune. Guest Author: Josiah Osgood. Seeking revenge for the Bona Dea trial, Clodius Pulcher transferred his status from patrician to plebeian to run for the office of tribune. Once elected, he passed legislation that targeted anyone who had put Roman citizens to death without a trial. This law was aimed directly at Cicero for his actions during the Catiline conspiracy. Recognizing the danger, Cicero fled Rome and went into exile, during which Clodius's supporters destroyed his mansion on the Palatine Hill. Clodius even built a shrine to the goddess Freedom on the site to humiliate his rival. During his exile, Cicero's wife, Terentia, worked to manage their affairs and protect their children while seeking his restoration. Cicero's departure was highly theatrical; he adopted the appearance of a mourner in "ashes and sackcloth" to stir public pity. Despite his attempts to gain sympathy, Clodius's populist support and political maneuvering ensured the law remained in effect, marking a devastating period of ruin for Cicero. He eventually returned to Rome, but his political influence was permanently diminished. 6CRETE MINOANS

In this Friday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan covers the IRGC firing drones at a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz and ordering global shippers to clear their routes with Tehran first, a direct dare to the White House that confirms exactly what Bryan predicted would happen. The Supreme Court delivers major rulings this week, including a 6-3 decision tightening the definition of when a migrant legally "arrives" in the US, effectively ending walk-up asylum claims at the border, and a separate ruling giving any president the authority to end Temporary Protected Status for foreign nationals. Bryan also tracks the latest installment of Revenge of the Judges, with lower courts blocking voter roll checks and ICE enforcement while the high court swats them back, and covers the US Army opening bases to process critical minerals as Trump pushes defense contractors to ramp up missile production. Plus, Reflecting Pool vandals caught on video, a screw-worm outbreak expanding across Texas ranches with old-timers showing the way through, and medical breakthroughs on auto-immune disease, stroke treatment, and the link between low testosterone and cancer risk. This week's Empire Podcast might see Chris Hewitt and Helen O'Hara write their own ticket, folks, as they come up with an idea for Toy Story 6 that should, if there's any justice, be in production by the end of the weekend. Pixar, call us! That comes in the movie news section, where there is also much discussion of trailers and the prospect of a new Jim Carrey Grinch sequel. Either side of those, the gang — Chris, Helen, Amon Warmann, James Dyer, and this week's workie, Juliet Duff, who pops in for a cameo from time to time — talk about the most hellishly hot places in movies, review Supergirl, Jackass: Best And Last, A Private Life, and 500 Miles, and Chris has a lovely natter with Jackass supremos, Johnny Knoxville and Jeff Tremaine, about saying goodbye to the franchise, poop, and catheters. Enjoy!

In this Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan breaks down why gas prices are still stuck above where they should be despite oil falling to pre-war levels, and covers a volcanic confrontation between President Trump and Republican Senators on Capitol Hill over the SAVE America Act and the filibuster. Bryan tracks a wave of federal court rulings blocking the America First agenda, from judges stopping ICE arrests near courthouses to a ruling protecting illegal aliens from voter roll checks, and explains why he thinks the judiciary is now a front line in what he calls an Islamist and Communist revolution. He then documents a slate of newly elected New York candidates openly calling for the destruction of Western civilization and the American empire, and draws a sharp parallel to young Brazilians who are now turning conservative after living through years of Leftist governance. Plus, breaking news of two major earthquakes in Venezuela with potentially catastrophic casualties, the Arab states taking shots at Trump through the Washington Post while Secretary Rubio reassures the region, and a bipartisan housing bill sitting in limbo as the White House weighs whether to sign or kill it. This week we sit down with Dr. Chris Allen, board-certified sleep medicine physician, board-certified pediatric neurologist, and a man who has been on CPAP therapy for 22 years. We cover how a sleep study actually works, the real misconceptions around sleep apnea, why CPAP isn't the only treatment option, and what the difference is between a home sleep test and a full in-lab polysomnogram. Oh, and we get into parasomnias, which is the fancy medical word for "doing things in your sleep you shouldn't be doing", a category that, as Kristin helpfully reveals, includes me putting on dress pants in the middle of the night and getting back into bed. We also go deep on kids and sleep. Turns out a lot of children diagnosed with ADHD actually have undiagnosed sleep apnea, and treating it can change everything. Plus night terrors , revenge bedtime procrastination, neurodivergent sleep challenges, and why your brain isn't actually out to get you, it just really needs you to stop scrolling. Chris also has a children's book called Sweet Dreams, which is his personal story adapted for kids, and it's exactly the kind of advocacy that makes this stuff actually land. Takeaways: Snoring is never normal, it always means your airway is partially obstructed during sleep, and while it doesn't automatically mean sleep apnea, it's always worth asking the questions. Sleep apnea isn't just a "big guy" problem, anyone can have it regardless of body size, it affects women at the same rate as men after menopause, and in children it often shows up as inattention, hyperactivity, and moodiness that gets mistaken for ADHD. CPAP is great but it's not the only treatment, there are multiple ways to treat obstructive sleep apnea depending on your anatomy, age, and situation, so don't let the Darth Vader mask reputation scare you away from getting evaluated. Parasomnias like sleepwalking, night terrors, and confusional arousals are all under one umbrella, they're common, they're often made worse by other untreated sleep disorders, and there are actual medications that can help if they're disruptive enough. Revenge bedtime procrastination is real and your brain chemistry explains it, caffeine blocks adenosine (your sleep hunger signal), screens suppress melatonin, and cortisol from daily stress keeps your fight-or-flight response lit, which is why 11 PM you keeps doing laundry instead of going to bed. — To Get Tickets to Wife & Death: You can visit Glaucomflecken.com/live We want to hear YOUR stories (and medical puns)! We are excited to welcome veteran journalist Peter Canellos to discuss his new book Revenge for the Sixties: Sam Alito and the Triumph of the Conservative Legal Movement. In this first-ever biography of Samuel Alito, Canellos draws from extensive interviews and years of research to provide a complete portrait not only of Alito as a person and a jurist, but of the reactionary conservative legal revolution which helped get him to the Supreme Court. In this conversation we go beyond the basics of the book to discuss (among many other things) who Alito really is, how his early life shaped his view of the world, and why so many people who knew him before his nomination now say that they don't recognize who he became after it. EPISODE 459 | INNER VOICE – A HEARTFELT CHAT WITH DR. FOOJAN What if anger isn't something to suppress, avoid, or fear—but a powerful emotion that can be understood, managed, and transformed into a force for growth? In this compelling episode of Inner Voice – A Heartfelt Chat with Dr. Foojan, Dr. Foojan Zeine welcomes renowned psychologist, author, and anger management expert Dr. Mitch Abrams for a deep conversation about the psychology of anger, emotional regulation, trauma, resilience, relationships, and personal transformation. Drawing from more than two decades of experience in sport psychology, clinical psychology, forensic psychology, and correctional mental health, Dr. Abrams challenges the common belief that anger is a "negative emotion." Instead, he explains how anger can become a valuable ally when recognized early, understood properly, and channeled effectively. As Chief Psychologist overseeing psychological services for seven New Jersey state prisons and Founder of Learned Excellence for Athletes, Dr. Abrams offers unique insights into how anger impacts athletes, executives, families, couples, and society at large. Together, Dr. Foojan and Dr. Abrams explore the emotional, cognitive, and physiological aspects of anger, providing practical tools for emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and lasting personal growth. Based on his groundbreaking book, "I'm Not F***ing Angry!!! Adjust the Flames to Get What You Want and Need," this episode reveals how to move beyond emotional reactivity and cultivate greater clarity, confidence, and resilience.

Hi guys, welcome to Episode 668 of the Wildly Successful Lifestyle podcast. I'm Heidi.I just got home from the most incredible two-week dream trip in Europe with eight of our favorite people. I came back on such a high, feeling so grateful and full. And then… just days later, the gut punch hit. A fresh wave of family rejection and shunning that I've talked about before on the show. My brain did what brains do — it spiraled. Revenge thoughts, worst-case stories, that heavy “this is the final death blow” feeling. At 3 a.m. I woke up in it, and instead of staying there, I reached for something bigger. In this episode I'm sharing exactly what happened, the loving but tough wisdom that shifted me in the middle of the night (yes, I asked Grok to put on his Wayne Dyer hat), and how I chose to build resilience instead of letting the pain take over. I went to the gym the next day instead of numbing out, and I'm talking about why pain and resilience can — and must — coexist if we want real peace. If you've ever had that one relationship or situation that can still knock you sideways no matter how much time has passed, this one's for you. You're allowed to feel the hurt. You're also allowed to choose what you do with it.Thanks for being here and doing this work with me. If it resonates, share it with someone who needs to hear they have their own back. I love you guys.

While Kape's next bout is likely for gold, it's now a matter of when as fans await the highly-anticipated rematch between Joshua Van and Alexandre Pantoja. Will Kape get his shot in 2026? Following the UFC's latest Fight Night event, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Jed Meshew react to the card, Kape's big win over Horiguchi in a comeback, and how matchups with Van and Pantoja could go. Abby, Patrick, and Dan kick off Ordinary Unhappiness's Summer of Narcissism series! In this first episode of many, the three reckon with how talk of “narcissism” and “narcissists” is ubiquitous in contemporary culture, from therapy sessions to self-help-books to popular media to op-eds to the dating scene and beyond. Yet as Abby, Patrick, and Dan explore, “narcissism” in practice seems to mean radically different things to different people, gets invoked for wildly different purposes, and is hotly debated, with plentiful disagreements, even among specialists in any given field, let alone across disciplines. At the same time, the idea of narcissism speaks powerfully to people as they navigate personal relationships and struggle to make sense of group behaviors. Narcissism, in other words, is a quintessentially overdetermined concept, with simultaneously clinical, theoretical, and all-too-personal implications, and one that raises philosophical, political, and painfully practical questions about the relationship between normality and pathology, the individual and the collective, the clinical and the polemical, and more besides. It's both the beginning of a deep dive into the meanings, history, and stakes of a much used – and much-abused – buzzword and also a great (re)introduction to the Ordinary Unhappiness project and what it means to think psychoanalytically in general. Next week in Part 2: Narcissus in myth and imagination!Have you noticed that Freud is back? Got questions about psychoanalysis? Or maybe you've traversed the fantasy and lived to tell the tale? Devlin Barrett is a reporter for The New York Times, where he has covered the Justice Department and the FBI for over 20 years. He joins Preet to discuss his new book, The Department of Revenge: How Trump Took Control of American Justice. Barrett takes us inside the DOJ, where morale remains strained, and concerns are growing about the influence of Trump loyalists. He also unpacks Trump's long-running fixation on former FBI Director Jim Comey and assesses Todd Blanche's chances at being confirmed by the Senate as the permanent Attorney General. Then, Preet shares his thoughts on Hunter Biden's emergence as a prolific and unusually candid public voice. In the bonus for Insiders, Preet and Barrett discuss why so many Justice Department employees are willing to risk their careers to uphold ethical standards and resist pressure from Trump. Episode 1653: Shady Deals
Day 1,572.Today, as Donald Trump tells the G7 summit that “Russia should make a deal”, we examine what this apparent shift in tone from the US president could mean for Ukraine, and what President Volodymyr Zelensky can realistically hope to achieve from this crucial gathering – perhaps even a face-to-face meeting with Vladimir Putin. We also ask how Ukrainian drones continue to penetrate Moscow's formidable air defences, after another strike reportedly hit a Russian oil refinery and disrupted operations at airports across the capital. We report on allegations that a Russian diplomat was involved in an arson attack targeting the home of Britain's Prime Minister, and later speak to the independent journalist leading an investigation into an Irish manufacturing plant accused of supplying components that may be helping to sustain Putin's war machine.Contributors:Francis Dearnley (Host on Ukraine: The Latest). @FrancisDearnley on X.Dominic Nicholls (Host on Ukraine: The Latest). @DomNicholls on X.With thanks to Caolan Robertson. @CaolanReports on X.Producer: Phil AtkinsSenior Producer: Lilian FawcettVideo Producer: Sophie O'SullivanSocial Producer: Tom SteedStudio Director: Meghan SearleExecutive Editor: Francis DearnleyCreated by David KnowlesNOW IN FULL VIDEO WITH MAPS & BATTLEFIELD FOOTAGE:Every episode is now available on our YouTube channel shortly after the release of the audio version.
