Ricky, Ricky, Ricky! We're back with our first episode stalwart, Richard Rush!We always knew we were going to return to the world of Rush, this time in his most notable film, THE STUNT MAN. Starring Peter O'Toole, Barbara Hershey, and Steve Railsback, this film tells a tale about a wanted felon who stumbles onto a film set and 'just begins working' as a stuntman, and everyone loves him.As you might expect, there is a lot of 'Rush-isms' in this, for better or worse. But honestly, we wouldn't have it any other way! Remember, King Kong was only 3'6". It was the 'movie magic' that made him tall.

Movie reviews #49 coming in hot today.
Just 5 70's movies to review, sooooo let's review the review.
1. (The Andromeda Strain 1971) Epic movie Director Robert Wise is at the helm here, with a movie Based on a Michael Crichton novel way before it was a 90's standard thing to do.
That statement is dead wrong though, there are 9 MC novels or short stories adapted into films in the 70's, 3 in the 80's, and 7 in the 90's. I think it's only because Jurassic Park had the hype of like 6 70's movies, shit, I dunno. This movie is about a deadly element from space, SCIENCE, and a real cool facility that gives you paper clothes.
2. (Boxcar Bertha 1972) Not to jump the shark but I think this one's easy, we all agree that we love Bertha, but not so much this early Martin Scorsese film. Barbara Hershey rules, also Bill of Kill Bill, and the history teacher of Bill and Ted are here.
3. (In this house of Brede 1975) Don't yuk this bizarre recovering catholic's yum, but here we have Diana Ring as Nun, say no more!
ok just a bit more she is a woman who is sick of all the shitty men and bullshit and goes to the convent to get away from it all and do rad shit in peace, apparently I should read the book too.
4. (Death on the Nile 1978) I'm sorry but I do love me some Peter Ustinov, He is Agatha Christie's Poirot here, along with flippin every one else.
Mia Farrow, Bette Davis, Miss murder she done sat down and wrote, David Niven, Jack Warden, and Professor McGonagall, to name a few.
This time they are on a boat not a train.
5. (Birth of the Beatles 1979) Waited for the encore tv airing of this so I could record it with a video cassette that I had bought. This one hugely influenced me to want to play music. Wonderful to finally see this again with friends and review. This movie is from the director of Return of the Jedi.
we out, thanks for listening.

This week, we kick off a March-long salute to the dearly departed king of American screen acting as Hackmonth begins with a classic of the inspirational sports genre, the story of a man who moves to Hicktown, Indiana and whips a bunch of farm boys into state champions. It's 1986's Hoosiers, directed by David Anspaugh and starring Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey and Dennis Hopper. While the circumstances surrounding this theme month are unquestionably sad, it's still a treat to watch one of the all-time great screen presences cook in some of his most acclaimed roles, and there's no question he's outstanding in this one. The three adult leads are all terrific in fact, lifting the movie above its genre-trappings. Is the movie enormously overrated by sports-inclined boomers? Yes, definitely, but that doesn't mean it's not a cozy comfort watch at the same time. Plus: Neither Hayl or J Mo actually watched this year's Oscars, but that doesn't stop us from having opinions on them! And Justin's back with another theatrical field report, this time having made it out to the cinema to see Osgood Perkins' Vancouver-shot Stephen King adaptation The Monkey. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our conversation, Hoosiers is available on MGM+ at the moment north of the border, but... I dunno, check it out from the library, that's what I did. Other works discussed in this episode include Conclave, Nickel Boys, Megalopolis, Emilia Perez, A Real Pain, Challengers, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Behind Enemy Lines, Hustle, Blue Chips, Coach Carter, Friday Night Lights, Glory Road, Rudy and The Way Back. We'll be back next week as Hackmonth continues with a 1995 naval thriller starring king Gene alongside Denzel Washington in Tony Scott's Crimson Tide, which is available to stream on Disney+. The week after that it's Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation, and we close out the month with Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums heading in to the pod-canon. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

Wiz RECOMMENDS Hannah and Her Sisters Like a lot of Woody Allen's films, its feature is more about the dialogue and actors than anything Allen can do behind the character. This is certainly the case with Hannah and Her Sisters, an at times hilarious film about the lives of upper crust sisters and the people in their lives. Some of the characters in this film are hilariously written and performed. Woody Allen as a hypochondriac TV writer has some of the funnier lines and situations. Dianne Weist has a good performance as well, but she's also in the film the least (it felt like at least). But the best performance comedically is Michael Caine as a philandering, love stricken husband of Hannah. Caine's performance as Eliot is hilarious during his love stricken parts but also great in his slight dramatic parts. His story in the film is the best and most entertaining of the entire film. But what's odd about the film is what is possibly the weakest characters of the film, namely Hannah and her sisters. Save for Weist as Holly, Hannah and Lee, played by Mia Farrow and Barbara Hershey, are easily the least interesting of any of the characters of the film. This is especially strange to deal with when both characters tend to be the two characters love and covet the most. Lee is sort of interesting as a love interest, but Hannah doesn't have much of anything as a character that is all that compelling. But Hannah and Her Sisters is a film that has some solid strengths with its male characters and stories, but it was surprising to find the weakest elements are usually something that is usually his strength: the writing of female characters.

25 years after its initial release, Kurt Vonnegut's biting portrayal of America's mad chaos, BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS returns in a restored 4K version, the perfect film for our complicated times. Directed by Alan Rudolph, and starring Bruce Willis, Albert Finney, Nick Nolte, Glenne Headly, Barbara Hershey, Omar Epps, Luka Haas and many more, the incisive comedy has been overlooked for far too long. And, in conjunction with the comedy's 25th Anniversary, there's no better time to rediscover Rudolph's unique cinematic vision and the timeless relevance of Vonnegut's work in a pristine restoration ready to provoke thought and captivate audiences all over again. BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS tells the story of car dealership titan Dwayne Hoover (Bruce Willis), the most respected man in Midland City. His smiling face appears on every local channel and billboard - a shining symbol of the American success syndrome. His message is "You Can Trust Dwayne Hoover." And so they do. But Dwayne Hoover is not smiling inside. Nor can he be trusted. Dwayne's shady prosperity, picture-frame family, and small mind are cracking. His television commercial-addicted wife (Barbara Hershey) may or may not be physically present when he's with her. His son (Lukas Haas) resides in a bomb shelter aspiring to be a lounge singer. His paranoid sales manager (Nick Nolte) has a significant sex secret. A Dwayne Hoover worshipper (Omar Epps) has taken up residence on his car lot. And his adulating secretary/lover (Glenne Headly) wonders if Dwayne Hoover has changed. The reeling business titan needs to find something or someone immediately to tell him the truth, to guide him out of this punishing, yet well-deserved, self-doubt. Simultaneous to Dwayne expanding breakdown, an impoverished and nonsensical science fiction writer, Kilgore Trout (Albert Finney), is making his way to Midland City's Fine Arts Festival, hailed as the world's greatest author by Midland City's wealthiest cultural leader. Once Hoover discovers Trout's impending arrival, he is maniacally determined to meet the author and receive the message that will restore his confidence and well-being. But when their orbits finally collide, neither Dwayne Hoover, Kilgore Trout, nor Midland City is prepared for the inexplicable and volatile results.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Welcome back to another episode of the Video Store Podcast! As baseball season is winding down, we've selected four more baseball films to help you get through the post-season, especially if your team isn't looking quite as good as they were at the start. Batting first is 1988's Bull Durham, written and directed by Ron Shelton. This film is a wonderful snapshot of minor league ball in the late 80s and reminds the audience that it's not just about the game. It's about figuring out who you are and what you want out of life, regardless of your occupation. Starring Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon, and Tim Robbins, it's a drama that will keep you swinging for the fences. Next up is 1989's Major League. A wealthy divorcee obtains the Cleveland Indians in the divorce but wants to relocate the team to a warmer climate. However, the escape clause only triggers if attendance drops below a certain threshold. Stacking the team with nobodies and has-beens, she hopes to move to Miami by the end of the season. When the team learns why they've been dealt the hand they've dealt, they rally to show her what they're really made of. It's a cheeky comedy that will make you stand up and cheer. Batting third in our line up is The Natural from 1984, starring Robert Redford, Glenn Close, Robert Duvall, Kim Basinger, Wilford Brimley, Barbara Hershey, Darren McGavin, and Robert Farnsworth. Adapted from a book of the same name by Bernard Malamud, The Natural is a 4-time Academy Award-nominated film about finding your purpose, even in less-than-ideal circumstances, and knowing that you could be “the greatest that ever was.”On clean-up duty is 1989's Field of Dreams. If you podcast it, they will come, and they hopefully will check out this film. Field of Dreams is about creating space, both literally and figuratively, for the unimaginable. It's about making peace with your past, and moving towards a better future. It's a truly beautiful film, nominated for three Academy Awards, and boasts an incredible cast of performers, including Kevin Costnery, Amy Madigan, Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones, Burt Lancaster, Gaby Hoffmann, and Tim Busfield, among others. Our 2010 retrospective continues with our penultimate review of Darren Aronofsky's psychological horror film "Black Swan" starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey & Winona Ryder. Acting as almost a companion piece with Aronofsky's previous film, "The Wrestler" (2008), the film examines the demands of perfection, the physical and emotional toll it takes on us, and the repression Nina experiences from her overbearing mother. It was a success at the box office, with critics, and during awards season, winning Natalie Portman the Academy Award for Best Actress. How does it hold up today? Join Josh Parham, Alyssa Christian, Dan Bayer, and me as we discuss our thoughts on the performances, writing, direction, cinematography, sound work, its awards season run, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. It's the end of the year, so we're serving up a deluxe-sized episode of Never Did It, mostly because the movies that Brad Garoon and Jake Ziegler selected for each other for 1993 sparked a lot of conversation. First up, Brad assigned Jake the Joel Schumacher film Falling Down, another in their series of excuses to fawn over Michael Douglas. They talk about what they believe to be misinterpretations of the film, some of which they were guilty of themselves, and underrated turn from Robert Duvall, the strong performances from Barbara Hershey and Rachel Ticotin, and the peculiar case of Tuesday Weld's character. Things shift somewhat extremely in the latter half of the episode as Jake assigns Brad Schindler's List. The hosts talk about how their own Jewish identities inform how they viewed this film, and what the place of Steven Spielberg's most celebrated movie is in the history of Jewish movies and the wider culture. Other movies discussed in this episode: Come and See (1985), Jurassic Park (1993), Demolition Man (1993), The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Dazed and Confused (1993), Last Action Hero (1993), What's Love Got to Do with It (1993), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), The Piano (1993), The Age of Innocence (1993), Grumpy Old Men (1993), The Fugitive (1993), Philadelphia (1993), Groundhog Day (1993), Batman Forever (1995), Batman and Robin (1997), The Boondock Saints (1999), Phone Booth (2002), Defiance (2008)
