In 1949, a quiet neighborhood in St. Louis became the center of one of the most controversial religious cases in American history. A 13-year-old boy began exhibiting disturbing symptoms including violent outbursts, strange markings on his body, and other troubling episodes, leading Catholic priests to perform a series of secret exorcism rites. The case would later inspire The Exorcist, but the real story was far more complex than the film. My guest is Troy Taylor, author of The Devil Came to St. Louis: The Uncensored True Story of the 1949 Exorcism, who takes a careful look at the case, its origins, and how fact, faith, and folklore became intertwined in one of America's most enduring mysteries. Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking! When we watch movies & shows at the movies or, increasingly, on TV, the soundtrack is ever-present to set the mood and enhance the story. But we never stop to consider its' role, how it's changed over the years, and how it interacts with other elements, such as the title sequence. This episode we look at how the use of soundtracks has changed over the last 30 or more years and consider some very creative soundtracks! In Rock News, we look at The Hollywood Vampires, Cyndi Lauper, Deep Purple, David Lee Roth and Devo, who are all heading out on the road, while the latest fad out of the US is Lollipop Star, a sweet that plays a tune as you suck it! Kenzie shares the strange and unsettling story of the prominent Swope family, whose household was rocked by a series of sudden deaths in a very short period of time. The family's trusted in-house doctor insisted the deaths were from natural causes, but the nurses caring for the patients began to question his treatment methods and the care being provided. Was the Swope family simply the victim of tragic coincidence? Or was something far more sinister unfolding behind closed doors? If you think L.A. is Sodom and Gomorrah 2.0 today, it was not exactly Disney World in the 80s either. A movie came out in 1985 that showed the not so glamorous side of L.A. with a story about Secret Service agents chasing down a murderous, psychotic counterfeiter around L.A. That movie is William Friedkin's “To Live And Die In L.A.”, and if Friedkin's name sounds familiar, it's because he also directed “The Exorcist” and “The French Connection.” He brings his gritty, never-know-what-you're-gonna-get style to his action thriller. William L. Peterson plays the main character, Secret Service agent Richard Chance and his target in a quest for vengeance is a clever counterfeiter named Eric Masters, played by Willem Dafoe. Masters murders someone very close to Chance and that triggers a dangerous, frenzied pursuit where you never know who's going to make it out alive. “To Live And Die In L.A.” is also famous for a 80s cool soundtrack by Wang Chung. Is it worth checking out? Check out this episode to find out! “To Live And Die In L.A.” also stars Darlanne Fluegel, John Pankow, Debra Feuer, Dean Stockwell, Steve James and Robert Downey Sr.Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

We were going to originally drop this on Valentine's Day, but we figured the In the Heights conversation needed an extra holiday in the spotlight. Regardless, here we are, at the end of our Exorcist Franchise journey, as we chat our way through THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER - yet another failed attempt at making The Exorcist series a blockbuster-machine. The Exorcist III (1990) kicks off our Devils & Dicks triple feature! We dive into William Peter Blatty's underrated horror sequel that trades demonic possession for police procedural tension - well, mostly. Lieutenant Kinderman (George C. Scott) investigates a series of brutal murders that match the M.O. of the Gemini Killer, who died in the electric chair 15 years ago. His investigation leads him to a psychiatric ward and a mysterious patient who claims to be both the Gemini Killer and Father Damien Karras. What We Cover:Director's Cut vs. Theatrical Cut: The battle between Blatty's vision and studio interference.Brad Dourif's bone-chilling performance and how he almost lost the role to Jason Miller.THAT jump scare—the famous Nurse Keating hallway scene that's considered one of horror's best. Why the forced exorcism ending works (or doesn't).The confusing K-name pattern and what it means.George C. Scott's intensity and whether he should've been kinder, man.Celebrity cameos you probably missed (Samuel L. Jackson! Patrick Ewing! Larry King!).The dream sequence with Fabio and whether it's too much. The Debate:Is The Exorcist III better than the original? We discuss why this film's dreadful tone and procedural approach might actually make it superior, even if it doesn't have the cultural impact of Friedkin's classic. Behind the Scenes Drama:We unpack the production chaos—how Jason Miller's health issues led to Brad Dourif's casting (then recasting), why Father Morning was added for the theatrical cut, and whether the director's cut ending would've been more powerful. Eight Official Reveals:From Father Kanavan's confessional booth murder to Mrs. Clelia crawling on the ceiling, we rank all eight monster introductions and pick our favorites.Next Time:We continue Devils & Dicks with Se7en (1995) - David Fincher's masterpiece of detective horror! This week, Erik and Michael sit down to discuss the film that changed it all. Well, did it change it all? I guess it did. I mean, it came before The Exorcist... it came before The Omen... so I guess you could say it helped pave the way for horror as we know it today. Anyways, what they sit down to discuss is, Rosemary's Baby.slug slug.
The power of God is not accessed through religious performance, but through relationship with Christ—and when that relationship is real, it produces visible and costly transformation. Jesus declared that his disciples would be his witnesses “to the ends of the earth.” Early Christians lived out this proclamation in powerful and palpable ways. Today we struggle to witness to those close to us, let alone to those at the ends of the earth. This series offers a glimpse into ways early Christians witnessed. Impacted? The genesis of our show can be found in the Alamo Drafthouse. We may not go to it as often as we used to, but we did not want to see it close its doors in El Paso. We have not had too many good things to say about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise recently. Maybe the latest update will have us singing a different tune. Plus, a lot of Mike Flannagan news.Unsurprisingly, we love Halloween. The costumes, the movies, the parties, we enjoy it all. Still, a Halloween movie at the beginning of the year is a little weird. But what if that movie dresses up as a Halloween movie but has nothing to do with it?Even putting aside the fact that it is a Halloween movie that has no costumes, no decorations, and no pumpkins, The Haunted Forest is a strange film. The protagonist is surrounded by death, but is more concerned about whether he should go to work. A woman on her way to college grooms a high school kid. Two haunts with similar names become involved in a blood feud. It also includes the hardest cut possible ever seen in movie history.Movies based on video games are nothing new. One of the biggest stories of this young year is how a small indie horror based on a little game has been a box office success. It is hard to believe that within a matter of weeks, two indie horrors based on indie games have dropped, however. The Mortuary Assistant has the expected thrills, chills, and spills. It does a nice job of changing up the formula by having the vessel for possession have much more agency. There are also some spooky visuals in it. If only the damn story did not get in the way. When Paul Bateson was cast in the 1973 horror classic The Exorcist, there was no way of knowing that just a few years later life for those around him would become even more terrifying than the movie. Paul has been rumored to be a serial killer so heinous that his crimes were featured on 'Mindhunter." In this episode we also talk about the real life "curse" surrounding the movie The Exorcist and the true story that inspired the film. In this conversation recorded at the 2025 Capital Irish Film Festival, host Martin Nutty sits down with two trailblazing Irish filmmakers who are pushing boundaries in their respective genres.Aislinn Clarke discusses her groundbreaking Irish-language horror film Fréwaka, exploring how her childhood love of horror (she saw The Exorcist at seven!) and her father's commitment to preserving the Irish language converged into a unique cinematic vision. Clarke reveals the gift of discovering the perfect location for the film in Ravensdale Forest, and why horror fans have always embraced foreign language films. With international distribution through IFC Shutter and more projects in development, Clarke is proving that Irish-language cinema can compete on the global stage.Tanya Doyle takes us behind the scenes of her five-year documentary odyssey Eat, Sleep, Cheer, and Repeat, which follows Ireland's cheerleading team to the World Championships in Florida. What began as a search for a film about women in sport became an intimate portrait of athleticism, identity, and belonging. Doyle shares the moment she knew cheerleading was the story—watching a young competitor vomit from sheer physical exertion—and defends the sport against anyone who questions its legitimacy. With 160 hours of footage to wrangle and characters lost to COVID shutdowns, the film became a testament to resilience both on and off screen. Both filmmakers discuss the challenges of funding independent cinema in Ireland, the intimacy of the editing process, and the importance of creating spaces where diverse stories can flourish. Whether you're interested in horror, documentary filmmaking, Irish language revival, or women in sport, this episode offers rich insights into the craft and passion of contemporary Irish cinema.LinksFilmsPreview: Eat, Sleep, Cheer, and RepeatPreview: FréwakaAislinn ClarkeIMDBInstagramTanya DoyleIMDBLinkedInGriffith CollegeSolas NuaCapital Irish Film FestivalIrish Stew LinksWebsiteFacebookInstagramLinkedInMedia Partner: IrishCentralEpisode Details: Season 8, Episode 7; Total Episode Count: 148
Are demons capable of physical manifestation… and could hybrid genetics play a role?In this intense and controversial episode, we sit down with Bryan from Demon Erasers to explore reports of physical demonic encounters, hybrid bloodline theories, spiritual warfare, and the intersection of genetics and the supernatural. We dive into firsthand deliverance experiences, biblical interpretations of hybrid entities, and modern encounters that suggest spiritual beings may interact with the physical world more than most people realize. Bryan shares insights from his work confronting demonic oppression, possession cases, and how these encounters may connect to ancient biblical narratives involving Nephilim and genetic corruption. If you've ever wondered whether spiritual warfare extends beyond the unseen realm — this conversation challenges mainstream assumptions about demons, genetics, and the nature of spiritual authority.⚠️ Viewer discretion advised — mature spiritual and supernatural topics discussed.

ABOUT NAT SEGALOFF'S BOOK HURRICANE BILLYOriginally published in 1990, Hurricane Billy: The Stormy Life and Films of William Friedkin is at last available again with a new foreword and extensive afterword written in assessment of William Friedkin's career following his 2023 death. Biographer Nat Segaloff draws upon his fifty-year friendship with the controversial director of The French Connection, The Exorcist, To Live and Die in L.A., Cruising, and his greatest achievement, Sorcerer.. This was the first book to offer an intimate portrait of the director. BearManor Media is proud to bring this work back into print. Nat Segaloff's Hurricane Billy: The Stormy Life and Films of William Friedkin is an in-depth look at this mercurial filmmaker of "The French Connection," "The Exorcist," Sorcerer" and other dynamic classics. Billy (his friends called him that) was as explosive as his movies. He was known to hit actors, shoot off a handgun to get an effect, and tell people off to their faces regardless of the consequences. Nat knew him for 50 years and wrote "The Exorcist Legacy" (2023) as well as more than 30 other books, mostly about movies. "Hurricane Billy" was written with Friedkin's participation in 1990 and is being republished after disappearing on its publication 35 years ago.ABOUT THOMAS CLAGETT'S WILLIAM FRIEDKIN: FILMS OF ABERRATION, OBSESSIIN & REALITYWilliam Friedkin: Films of Aberration, Obsession, and Reality was first published in 1990 and has been massively revised and expanded it for this new 2026 edition. It covers all of Friedkin's films in detail, and explores the connections between the man and his movies, as well as their cinematic legacy. It is incredibly provocative in showing how Friedkin's films reflect not only the man who made them but also the world he lives in. Tom went to USC and worked on "The Two Jakes" and "St. Elsewhere" as an assistant editor and since then has won awards for his books in the genre of historical fiction.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

For one family, it began with a decision that seemed harmless—going along on a night out they never planned on, tied to a movie that had terrified her years earlier. She never watched it. She didn't need to. By the time they returned home, something in the house felt different. What followed wasn't a long haunting or a slow build. It was brief, physical, and deeply unsettling—marked by sudden tension, unexplained destruction, and a moment that still doesn't sit right years later.Nothing stayed. Nothing announced itself. And nothing like it ever happened again. But sometimes the most disturbing encounters aren't the ones that linger—they're the ones that make you wonder whether something passed through, just long enough to leave a mark.#RealGhostStoriesOnline #TrueGhostStory #ParanormalEncounter #PoltergeistActivity #SomethingFollowedMe #HauntedHome #UnexplainedEvents #ListenerStory #SupernaturalExperience #ParanormalPodcast Love real ghost stories? We live in a moment where spiritual language is everywhere, but formation is rare. Many people claim to be spiritual while rejecting authority, truth, and discipline. Others consume sermons built on slogans rather than Scripture, leaving their faith thin, sentimental, and easily shaken. The result is a generation that feels awakened but remains unformed. This week on Win Today, Lisa Bevere joins me for the final installment of the [Formed.] discipleship series to confront the cost of being spiritual but not anchored in truth. We talk about the rise of tarot and oracle cards, what an exorcist revealed about their spiritual danger, how progressive theology often drifts toward self-deification, and why the church has grown far too comfortable preaching phrases instead of the Word. This conversation is not reactionary; it is corrective. If you're hungry for real formation, grounded truth, and a faith that can withstand deception, offense, and cultural pressure, this episode brings the series to its necessary conclusion. Guest Bio Lisa Bevere is a bestselling author, speaker, and co-founder of Messenger International. Known for her prophetic clarity and uncompromising commitment to Scripture, Lisa has spent decades calling believers to spiritual maturity, courage, and wholehearted devotion to Jesus. Her books and teaching reach a global audience, challenging cultural Christianity and inviting the church back to truth, holiness, and biblical authority.
