Josh Williams gives guitar playing tip on practice times and plays Jerusalem Ridge and then we interview Authentic Unlimited and talk about their 2 brand new albums.
Musicians: Paul fiddle and guitar, banjo Lars Fabricius-Olsen, bass Laura Leech-Devlin.
Selections from my vinyl LP collection, as well as from my shelves of CD's. Jim & Jesse, Leon Morris, Jerusalem Ridge, early Mike Auldridge, the great band Country Gazette from the early 1970's, as well as some more recently recorded Grasstowne and Mickey Galyean.
This is my recording of me playing Jerusalem Ridge including the backing track I practice this song with. The recording was made with a Zoom H5 situated about a meter away from the banjo using the X/Y mike the Zoom comes with. Using audacity, I normalised the volume, added some compression and a little reverb (in this order). I think there is too much pick noise and I suspect something is wrong with the compression setup. The backing track seems to mask some of the deficiencies in my playing.

Canadian band Jerusalem Ridge, NZ band Hamilton County Bluegrass Band, and lots of US bands here, all playing some fine bluegrass music.
We lost a great musician on Christmas Day when Tony Rice passed at the age of 69. His friend Ricky Skaggs described Tony as “the single most influential acoustic guitar player in the last 50 years.” This week’s show, we’ll pay tribute by sharing some great recordings featuring Tony, as well as some selections from players who were inspired by him. We'll hear Bryan Sutton, Molly Tuttle and David Grier … and we’ll also hear some players who inspired Tony, including Doc Watson, Clarence White and Maybelle Carter. Farewell to Tony Rice … this week on the Sing Out! Radio Magazine. Kenny Baker was a genius playing his fiddle. It's real hard on clawhammer banjo, but I can hear the melody and like to think of Bill Monroe listening to his fox hounds hunt on Jerusalem Ridge by his Kentucky home.
