Her work has been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and she earned a deal with Mark Cuban on Shark Tank. Notes: Someone asked Charlie Munger… How do I get a great wife? Deserve one. The best way to find a good spouse is to deserve one, he often said. In business, this translates to working hard and behaving with integrity consistently over time. “To get what you want, you have to deserve what you want.” What is the #1 reason you don't get a second date? You talk about yourself too much. When you go out to eat with someone, what percentage of the time are you talking? Aim to talk 30% and listen 70%. The reason we don't get the second date or the follow-up meeting with the prospect is because we are talking too much. Pull conversational threads: Avoid rapid-fire questioning by following up on answers with related questions. Share brief personal connections to create dialogue rather than interrogation. "You want to pull the conversational thread... ask a follow-up question about that same thing. That's where you can start having a conversation." Marketing your trajectory matters: People want to know you're going places. Share your goals, dreams, and aspirations authentically to demonstrate upward momentum. "You want to find the balance of sharing things about yourself that indicate you are on an upward trajectory... from a place of getting to know one another." Nice guys need boundaries: Being overly accommodating to people you barely know signals weakness. Hold boundaries and don't put others before yourself too quickly. "The general problem with the nice guy is he's putting other people before himself, including people he doesn't know very well." Confidence must be genuine: Authentic confidence comes from actually becoming confident through mastery, not just faking body language. Get genuinely good at something. "You have to become that... get really good at something... picking something in your life and getting really good at it is gonna help you build confidence." Don't rush to the close: Whether in dating or sales, focus on building connection and trust before asking for commitment. The close is the period at the end of a long sentence. "If you approach a woman or you approach a deal and you're just trying to get to the final step... you're going to rush through a lot of the important and essential steps." High-value people are in demand: Present yourself as someone others want to be around. People are naturally drawn to those who appear sought-after by others. "We want the thing that's in demand. We want the thing that other humans recognize as high value." Genuine curiosity creates connection: Being authentically interested in others' experiences is a powerful form of respect and love. Ask questions that take conversations deeper. "Your underlying emotion is important... becoming a genuinely curious person who is interested in meeting another human." Physical fitness affects confidence: Looking and feeling good about yourself impacts how you show up in every interaction. Invest in your physical health. "You gotta feel good about how you look... who wants to partner up with a slug? Nobody." "You should always be dating your partner, whether it's your first date, your 40th date, or you've been married for 40 years."' "The close is the period at the end of a very long sentence." "Deserve one." - Charlie Munger's advice on getting a great spouse Women want 3 things - social status, to be desired, flirty/fun… They want an optimist. If things aren't going well, look in the mirror. Take accountability. Her Twitter profile picture. Show the whites of your eyes. Smile. She has two tattoos. Omega is her middle name. Cactus for Tucson, AZ. How to build genuine confidence? Get good at something. Become an expert. Work really really hard. Be in great physical shape. It's hard to be confident if you don't like how you look. Sounds harsh, but it's true. Confidence comes from evidence. Create some evidence for youself by consistently working hard and getting great at something. That confidence will ooze out of you wherever you go. Shark Tank. Scary, anxious, nervous. Did a deal with Mark Cuban. Advice - If you're building a business, listen to what your customers want. What does your ideal client want? Build that.

When Jesus gets up on the cross, He gets up on His throne. Jesus is King because He did what no one else can do. No one else can say they've never sinned. No one else has perfectly kept the law. No one else has completed a greater act of love than the cross. Christ's cross marked a turning point in history. It changed the world. But have you allowed it to change your life? When you begin to grasp that Jesus went through all of this suffering because He loves you, it will change your life. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” -Romans 5:8 Take-Home Message: King Jesus was crucified to free me from condemnation. What happens when four decades of heavy drinking suddenly stops? Ali Burke returns to share her remarkable transformation from a self-described "party pisshead parent" to a woman fully embracing authentic connection and present parenting.Ali's drinking story began in her early teens, looking for courage, attention, and a way to fit in. As the youngest of seven children, alcohol became her tool for becoming "the funny one." This evolved into a forty-year relationship with alcohol that saw her drinking moonshine vodka by the litre, losing her driver's license three times, and prioritizing drinking over driving her teenage daughter home safely. The turning point came after a deep hypnosis session and one final regretful wedding experience. What Ali calls her "spontaneous sobriety" has now lasted nearly four years, completely transforming every aspect of her life. Most significantly, she's rebuilt her relationship with her daughter, who once had to parent her drinking mother but now has a present, reliable parent she can count on.Our conversation takes a joyful turn as we reflect on how we met at a sober retreat in Phuket, where we discovered the authentic connections possible without alcohol. The genuine laughter, dancing, and friendship we found proved that sobriety doesn't mean the end of fun – it marks the beginning of more meaningful experiences and "sore tummy muscles from laughing so much."Ali shares exciting news about our upcoming podcast venture "Laughs Without Lager," where we'll continue sharing honest stories to help others seeking freedom from alcohol. Her journey demonstrates that even after decades of drinking, transformation is possible, and the rewards of clarity and authentic connection far outweigh anything alcohol seemingly offered.Whether you're sober curious, taking a break, or committed to alcohol-free living, this conversation offers both hope and practical insights from someone who's walked the challenging but ultimately liberating path to freedom.Ali Burke: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/idontdrinkfullstop/Podcast: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2470602 MEGWeb: https://www.meganwebb.com.au/Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/meganwebbcoaching/ Unwined Bookclub: https://www.alcoholfreedom.com.au/unwinedbookclub ConnectAF group coaching: https://www.elizaparkinson.com/groupcoaching BELLAWeb: https://isabellaferguson.com.auInsta: @alcoholcounsellorisabellaBi-Yearly 6-Week Small Group Challenges: Learn more: https://www.isabellaferguson.com.au/feb-2025-challengeFree Do I Have A Drinking Problem 3 x Video Series: https://resources.isabellaferguson.com.au/offers/JTFFgjJL/checkoutFree HOW DO I STOP DRINKING SO MUCH Masterclass: https://resources.isabellaferguson.com.au/offers/7fvkb3FF/checkoutOnline Alcohol Self-Paced Course: https://resources.isabellaferguson.com.au/offers/fDzcyvWL/checkout...

07/11/2025 - Joshua Spatha -calling the church back to authentic Christian spirituality
Today in the Catholic Mass Series, we explore how the spirit of the liturgy can—and should—extend beyond the walls of the church. Fr. Burfitt joins us to discuss the essential role of para-liturgical devotions: the Rosary, the Little Office, family prayer, and spiritual reading. How can parents train children to participate at Mass? What about single Catholics seeking a deeper connection? We'll also look at the role of meditation, the dangers of emotionalism, and practical ways to “bring the Mass home.” Whether in processions, devotions, or quiet imitation of the saints, true participation continues long after the final blessing. The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. "To what extent is authenticity a solitary alignment with the inner self, versus a relational and dialogical process shaped through communion with others?" John Vervaeke, Gregg Henriques and Matthew Schaublin come together for a discussion covering the concept of authenticity. Matthew Schaublin presents findings from two studies, one of which employs a mixed-methods design to examine the interplay between authenticity, agency, and self-transformation through both narrative analysis and psychometric assessment. The findings reveal that authentic experiences are often marked not by internal self-consistency alone, but by themes of communion, deep relational connection, emotional resonance, and shared understanding. This challenges static, individualistic models of the self and instead supports a dialogical conception in which authenticity emerges through interaction and mutual recognition. The conversation also highlights how current psychological frameworks fail to account for the complexity of lived, meaningful experience. Together, Matthew, Gregg, and John propose a more dynamic, relational, and transjective understanding of selfhood and agency. Gregg R. Henriques is an American psychologist. He is a professor for the Combined-Integrated Doctoral Program at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, US. Matthew Schaublin is a master's candidate in psychology at the University of Chattanooga, with a four-year research focus on authenticity. His work blends empirical psychology with philosophical and classical inquiry, investigating how dispositional authenticity is expressed and experienced. So for me, it's just staying true to that because I already probably made a commit to somebody else.” 9:50 “Those mentors allowed me to be like, how is she going to address that? How is she going to handle that? And they authentically let me do it. And luckily, I definitely have a little bit more of like I'm going to nip that in the bud type of personality that I handled them well. And getting that experience but then also getting that feedback from them was a big, big milestone because I think as a young professional, finding your coaching voice, finding what is appropriate, and not appropriate, effective is super hard in a coach. And for me, that was a huge milestone” 14:40 “Then you're gaining coaching experience and on top of that, addressing some unfamiliar areas, maybe athletes you haven't worked with in the past, sports you haven't worked with, challenging personalities, all the different areas that we address in this field at times.” 15:50 “I think it's the context, your demeanor, your tone. And are you authentic?” 29:45

Applying the supernatural truths of the Catholic Faith to our everyday lives is a continual struggle. It is altogether too easy to compartmentalize our Catholicism, living as if it is only real or meaningful on Sundays during Mass or when we set aside time for prayer. Yet every day we see all around us the tragic reality of sin, which should call us to remember that what we individually and as a society need more than anything is Christ Jesus Our Lord.

On this special episode of Destination on the Left, I talk with Karen Kuhl (Executive Director, Tour Cayuga, NY), Lauren Sackett (CEO, Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce, WI), and Roni Weiss (Executive Director, Travel Unity) all about the nuances of inclusivity in the travel and tourism industry. We discuss how destinations can actively create environments where every traveler and resident feels a sense of belonging. Discover the landscape of DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion) and gain practical advice on how to make tourism more accessible and authentic. What You Will Learn in This Episode: Implementing DEAI initiatives in rural and small-town tourism communities, and the impact these efforts have on both residents and visitors Why transparency, community input, and vulnerability are critical in making a destination truly welcoming for all, not just in intention but in actionable practice What social impact means through a tourism lens, and how prioritizing inclusivity supports both the local community and the visitor experience How organizations can start with small, meaningful steps—such as improving website accessibility or forming advisory groups—to advance DEAI practices, even with limited resources and staffing What practical strategies destinations can use to measure the success and ROI of their inclusion initiatives How empathy, humility, and realistic goal-setting play a fundamental role in sustaining progress on DEAI efforts, even when facing criticism or limited momentum Shifting from Intentions to Actions Travel professionals often assume they are, by default, welcoming, but wanting to welcome everyone and actually creating a place where everyone feels welcome are two very different things. My guests emphasize that building an authentically inclusive environment requires deep listening, transparency, and sometimes vulnerability. Roni Weiss outlined Travel Unity's perspective, explaining that inclusion isn't just aspirational—it's measurable. He described public standards focusing on three levels: leadership and workforce, community engagement, and the traveler's experience. The overarching message? DEAI isn't merely about not excluding—it's proactive work that touches every level of an organization. Social Impact Beyond the Tourist While tourism is often measured by economic indicators, genuine social impact weaves together the needs of visitors and residents alike. Karen Kuhl stressed that her work in Cayuga County, home to Harriet Tubman's legacy, is community-centric: tourism isn't just for visitors, after all, but for all the residents who live in a destination too. DEAI initiatives must ripple inward before they shine outward. Working in rural northern Wisconsin, Lauren Sackett shared that enhancing accessibility, like mapping out trail accessibility and filtering for diverse-owned businesses, is as much about serving aging and differently abled residents as it is about attracting new visitor demographics. Tourism isn't just about bringing travelers in; it's about the community as a whole. Practical Steps for Small Towns and Rural Destinations Even if you're a limited-budget organization, you can meaningfully implement DEAI. My guests' advice is to start small, but start now. Identify community values, tap into available grants, and build from within—embedding inclusive principles into staff roles, outreach, and even RFPs for outside vendors. DEAI principles should be everybody's work and on everybody's task list, which is why advisory boards are a resourceful way to bring diverse voices into decision-making without overhauling governance structures. Authentic inclusion is a journey, not a checkbox. Be humble, honest, kind, and patient, my guests recommend leading with empathy and listening to those with lived experience. Superficiality is a perennial problem that we must struggle with. Even the Apostles had to confront it. We want to have a casual life that makes no demands upon us. Yet we know we are called to something deeper, a more demanding life. We are called to live for God and above all it is our highest calling, yet we are challenged by a world that tempts us to disregard Our Lord.

Send Krystal a Text Message.Have you ever wondered how successful course creators built their empires? It often comes down to strategic affiliate partnerships rather than just clever marketing or hefty ad budgets. Laura Sprinkle, founder of Rootabl and former affiliate manager for industry leaders like Amy Porterfield, emphasizes the importance of affiliate marketing. She explains that the visibility created by affiliates—what she calls the "omnipresence effect"—can generate momentum that traditional advertising struggles to match. For smaller creators, the good news is that you don't need a massive audience to see results from affiliate marketing. Laura shares her experience of turning a $15,000 launch into $60,000 by collaborating with just eight friends who believed in her product, leading to a tenfold increase in leads. Authentic human recommendations are becoming increasingly valuable in an era of rising distrust online; as Laura notes, "I don't know that I believe an ad, but I believe you."Looking ahead, Laura forecasts a shift in affiliate marketing toward more specialized relationships, highlighting the roles of "keystone affiliates" and "pollinator affiliates." Whether you're just starting or aiming to scale, her advice is clear: build authentic connections and focus on mutual benefit. The future of digital marketing relies on these strategic human partnerships that enhance your message while fostering trust with your audience.Click the "Send Krystal a Text Message" link above to send us your questions, comments, and feedback on the show!
