In this episode of Houselights, we navigate through Kathryn Bigelow's "K-19: The Widowmaker," focusing on its technical brilliance and narrative challenges. We discuss the film's claustrophobic cinematography, the nuanced performances of Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson, and the historical context that frames this gripping submarine drama. While the film excels in its technical execution, the emotional connection with the characters remains elusive, leaving us with a complex yet compelling cinematic experience.
Welcome back to Beautifully Broken, where healing meets high performance. Today's guest, John Golden, is a walking miracle—and a man who's defied odds most of us can't even imagine. After coding on an ER table from a full arterial blockage known as a “widowmaker,” John was revived and left with a second chance at life. We talk about the raw emotion of facing death, how gratitude becomes your default operating system afterward, and why community, family, and reflection matter more than anything else.John shares his journey from college football linebacker to multiple knee surgeries, a human bone transplant, and ultimately, summiting Mount Everest. Through that journey, he learned how the body compensates, adapts, and rebuilds—and how the same principles apply to the brain. Now as CEO of Vital Neuro, he's leading a new era in personalized neurofeedback—where real-time EEG and neuro-responsive music help calm the nervous system, restore focus, and reduce overwhelm.Together, we unpack the neuroscience of balance, the volume of modern life, and the small daily practices that bring peace and performance back online. This one's about more than surviving—it's about learning how to be vital. What a mess.Judah's people are being assured by their prophets - holy men who should know better - that all will be well. Business as usual will win the day, they say, even if that business is worshipping pagan deities rather than capital G God.Jeremiah warns these bogus seers that they will die in the disasters which they have promised their people will never happen.Unsurprisingly, he is in for a tough ride, but in taking one for the team, Jeremiah is able to write a fabulous account of life in end-of-an-era Judah - and teh woes of being a prophet.I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.Written and produced by Chas BayfieldMusic by Michael Auld and Jon Hawkins MusicCover art by Lisa GoffSend any comments or feedback to contact@whollybuyable.comX: @WhollyBuyable
Imagine you are told you have "good" cholesterol and think you are doing fine only to learn that you have a 50% obstruction in your left anterior descending artery which is what leads to the widowmaker heartache which most people don't survive. Heart disease is the number one killer of women and that includes all cancers combined so why was this primary care doctor told there were no red flags? And, what can we learn from her experience? You'll hear the lab test that made her ask for further testing, including a scan that revealed the blockage. Dr. Nanos shares the tests, including blood tests you should request. And we discuss your risk factors when you hit menopause. This is a life changing conversation you don't want to miss. Share it with everyone you know. In this powerful episode, I sit down with AJ Jones, a man whose story will completely change the way you think about success, purpose, and fulfillment. After surviving not one, but two widowmaker heart attacks, AJ was forced to confront the question most of us avoid — what does "more" really mean? AJ opens up about his life before these events, thriving in the world of financial services, climbing the ladder of success, chasing achievements, and collecting the external markers of "making it." But when life came to a screeching halt, everything changed. We talk about how those near-death experiences pushed him to redefine his priorities, shifting from titles, wealth, and possessions to finding more joy, more authenticity, and more purpose in his everyday life. AJ shares how he turned his pain into purpose through his company, 'More' Career Wellness, where he helps people align their careers and personal lives through coaching, community, and authentic connection. From his adoption story and search for belonging to the courage it took to walk away from a successful career, AJ's journey is a masterclass in resilience and intentional living. This episode is a reminder that fulfillment doesn't come from what we accumulate. It comes from who we become. If you've ever felt like you were chasing success but still feeling unfulfilled, this conversation will inspire you to slow down, look inward, and discover what "more" truly means in your life. In This Episode, You'll Learn: How two life-threatening heart attacks transformed AJ's perspective on life and purpose The difference between chasing success and living fulfilled How to find "more" in your life through joy, authenticity, and purpose The story behind More Career Wellness and its mission to empower professionals to live with intention How AJ turned pain and trauma into a platform for helping others The importance of community and self-awareness in living a meaningful life How to define success on your own terms — not the world's

Season 25, Episode 97 - Shaun Boyce, Bobby SchindlerJoin hosts Shaun Boyce and Bobby Schindler on the GoTennis! Podcast for an inspiring and heartfelt conversation with Dave Chatterjee, a renowned cybersecurity thought leader, former University of Georgia professor, and adjunct at Duke University. Beyond his professional accolades as an author, podcaster, and speaker, Dave reveals his deep-rooted passion for tennis—a sport that's been a constant in his life since childhood in India. In this episode, Dave shares how he balanced academia with immersing himself in tennis, from traveling with his junior national player son, Victor, to driving hours for training sessions and offering "unsolicited advice" to pro coaches. He opens up about the emotional pull of the game, including tearful moments during Grand Slam ceremonies, and reflects on why tennis resonates so profoundly with him despite not being a top player himself. The heart of the discussion is Dave's gripping personal story: how a intense league match uncovered a life-threatening 90% blockage in his "Widowmaker" artery, leading to a double bypass surgery that saved his life. He credits tennis for both revealing the issue through physical exertion and aiding his recovery, emphasizing the importance of proactive health checks, listening to your body, and not ignoring symptoms—advice that's especially relevant for tennis enthusiasts and coaches.Dave also weighs in as "King of Tennis," advocating for player welfare with suggestions like switching to best-of-three sets and easing grueling schedules to prevent burnout and injuries. Plus, enjoy fun anecdotes about over-involved parents (including Dave's self-deprecating tales), family dynamics in sports, and shoutouts to Atlanta's tennis scene.Whether you're a cybersecurity pro, tennis parent, recreational player, or health-conscious listener, this episode blends humor, vulnerability, and wisdom. We dive beneath the sea again with “K-19: The Widowmaker,” in which Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson star as… wait a second… Soviet naval officers? It’s a film about a horrible nuclear accident assembled from pieces of other submarine movies, as well as possibly several “Star Trek” movies, and we can’t decide if the screenplay or the casting is more of a problem. But finally we’ll get to the bottom of the real question: if most of the crewmen aren’t married, can K-19 really be a widowmaker? Jason Snell with Erika Ensign, Philip Michaels, Steven Schapansky, Brian Warren and Tony Sindelar.

On a Keto Diet, My Heart Disease Got Worse. Going Plant-Based Helped Me Heal “I read Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Caldwell Esselstyn Jr., M.D., which recommended a whole-food, plant-based diet. But I was more persuaded by ketogenic-diet advocates on YouTube and a chiropractic doctor who promoted supplements meant to reduce calcification. So I adopted a keto diet and began taking the supplements. I followed their advice to the letter, hoping to slow the rise of my calcium score. Instead, over the years, my score steadily increased.” Listen to today's success story written by Juan Benitez at Forks Over Knives. #vegan #plantbased #plantbasedbriefing #wfpb #heartdisease #widowmaker #keto #meat #saturatedfat ========================== Original post: https://www.forksoverknives.com/success-stories/keto-diet-worsened-my-heart-disease-but-going-plant-based-helped-me-heal/ ========================== Use search feature at https://www.plantbasedbriefing.com/episodes-search ========================= Forks Over Knives Documentary: https://www.forksoverknives.com/the-film/ =========================== Forks Over Knives was founded following the release of the world-famous documentary Forks Over Knives in 2011, showing people how to regain control of their health and their lives with a plant-based diet. Bob Daisley: The Unsung Hero of Rock and Roll For over five decades, bassist and songwriter Bob Daisley has been the powerhouse behind some of rock's most iconic recordings. From thunderous metal anthems to soulful blues and progressive ballads, Daisley's versatility and talent have made him a cornerstone in music history—working alongside legendary artists across the globe. Early Years: From Australia to the World Stage Born in Australia, Daisley moved to London at 21, chasing a future in music. On his 22nd birthday in 1972, he joined Stan Webb's band Chicken Shack. Just a year later, he signed on with Mungo Jerry, recording the hit single “Alright, Alright, Alright” and embarking on extensive international tours. Breaking Through: Widowmaker and Rainbow In 1974, Daisley rejoined Chicken Shack, but his creative ambitions led to co-founding Widowmaker in 1975. The band released two albums: Widowmaker (1976) and Too Late to Cry (1977), earning acclaim in the UK rock scene. Later that year, Daisley was tapped by guitar virtuoso Ritchie Blackmore to join Rainbow, alongside vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Cozy Powell—forming what many consider the band's definitive lineup. Their explosive live shows and the album Long Live Rock ‘n' Roll solidified Rainbow's place in rock history. Blizzard of Ozz: Defining a Genre In 1979, Daisley partnered with Ozzy Osbourne and guitarist Randy Rhoads to form the Blizzard of Ozz. Their self-titled debut soared to #7 on the UK charts and went platinum in the U.S. They followed with Diary of a Madman (1981), which also achieved platinum status and further cemented the band's influence on heavy metal. Beyond the Blizzard: A Storied Career After a brief departure, Daisley returned to work with Osbourne on his third solo album. Tragedy struck in 1982 with Rhoads' untimely death, but the band pressed on, recording Bark at the Moon (1983) with new guitarist Jake E. Lee, earning international success. Daisley also joined Uriah Heep during this period and launched a prolific collaboration with guitar legend Gary Moore. He contributed to Victims of the Future and toured globally, later reuniting with Moore for Wild Frontier (1987) and Still Got the Blues (1990)—Moore's most successful album to date. 1990s & Beyond: Writing Hits, Shaping Legends Daisley returned once again to the Osbourne fold, co-writing and performing on No Rest for the Wicked (1988) and the chart-topping No More Tears (1991). That same decade, he formed Mother's Army with Jeff Watson of Night Ranger, releasing several albums showcasing his songwriting depth. Throughout the 2000s, he remained an in-demand collaborator, contributing to projects with Yngwie Malmsteen, Living Loud—a supergroup with Jimmy Barnes, Steve Morse, Don Airey, and Lee Kerslake—and revisiting classic Blizzard of Ozz material. Author and Legacy Builder In 2013, Daisley released his autobiography For Facts Sake, offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at his life in rock. Though he has stepped back from touring, he remains a respected figure in the music industry, continuing to inspire through studio work and guest appearances. A Legacy Etched in Rock History Bob Daisley's basslines have underscored some of the most memorable moments in rock and metal. Whether writing, performing, or mentoring, his passion for music endures. With a legacy spanning continents and genres, Daisley remains a foundational figure in the world of rock and roll. #BobDaisley #RandyRhoads #OzzyOsbourne #JohnnyBeaneTV #RockLegends #BassGuitarIcon Want to create live streams like this? Widow Maker: The Market's Biggest TrapThe 380 fuel oil crack caught traders off guard with a violent, unexpected rally that surged deep into positive territory. That’s what the last couple years for Perry has felt like. Starting in 2021 with a 90% blockage in his Widow-Maker artery. But Perry can honestly say, “I’m thankful for every hardship.” What?? It’s because of what God does in us through our suffering. That he can’t do any other way. For some, Christmas is not the most wonderful time of the year. Shawna asked a friend how she could pray for her and she immediately teared up. Jesus, Immanuel, Joy of the world, is with us in our sadness too. Perry and Shawna listener Brian texted them in September saying, “Please pray for me, I have a really bad disease.” And 3 months later Brian was gone. Perry went to pay his respects this past Monday and as he walked back to his car it felt like death was on him like a heavy blanket. The blanket lifted as he thought of some words of hope from Aslan! Everything seems bigger at Christmastime. The good things seem better. The hardships seem greater. Christmas doesn’t create our problems or improve our lives – it simply amplifies what already is. Christmas was never intended to magnify us. This Christmas let’s magnify the One Christmas is all about. Before Perry was 25, God had blessed him with some amazing open doors for the Kingdom. And then, that season was over and he found himself cleaning toilets. Super humbling. It wasn’t anything Perry had chosen. But for Jesus he gave up all his glory willingly, for us! Jesus’ birth was not His beginning. He always has been and always will be. Jesus came to give us eternal life. Only an eternal being could offer an eternal gift.Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshow/wgnbSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Cronenweth worked as a loader and 2nd assistant before graduating high school, and then enrolled in film school at USC where he studied cinematography. Among his classmates were John Schwartzman and Robert Brinkmann, as well as [director] Philip Joanou. After graduation, Cronenweth resumed working with his father, joining a core camera team that included operators John Toll and Dan Lerner, and 1st assistants Bing Sokolsky and Art Schwab.Jeff worked with father Jordan Cronenweth (cinematographer most notable for Blade Runner) as a camera loader and second assistant camera during high school, working his way up to first assistant camera and then camera operator until the mid-1990s.Moving up to first assistant, Cronenweth began working with Toll, who was just beginning his work as a cameraman, and veteran Sven Nykvist."I couldn't have learned from better people than John, Sven and my father,"Cronenweth relates."They were all soft-spoken, but very tenacious in achieving their goals. It was a great experience to watch them, learn set etiquette and see how they delegated responsibilities and dealt with producers and crews. I did six pictures with my father and eight pictures with Sven." I had books like What to Expect When You're Expecting and Social Security for Dummies and lots of other great resources, but nothing that just comprehensively looked at all of the things that I was curious about. And so I wrote down a list of questions, everything from the most basic: How long will I live? Will I be healthy to more practical things like How long will I work or Will I have enough money? And then some tough questions like Will I lose my memory? and How will I die? And so those became the chapters of the book, but one of the things that happened as I was starting to put this together was my husband had a major heart attack at 48. And I'll get a little bit emotional talking about it, but he was hiking by himself and had what they call the Widow Maker, which, being his wife, is not a great term when I heard it. Joel Bouchard will discuss the topic of getting in the flow with me today. Joel Bouchard is a doctoral student in psychology at Liberty University in Virginia, a multi-instrumentalist record producer, author, painter, Army veteran, business leader, local government official, and host of the philosophy podcast From Nowhere to Nothing. His podcast explores complex themes such as the messy, misapplied, and contradictive nature of tribalism, commitment as a concept through ontological and ethical paradigms, and the life-encompassing yet nuanced concept of work. Joel's diverse background includes discussions on shadow from the perspectives of physics, mythology, psychology, and cultural tradition, as well as debates on substantivalism and relationalism in defining locations. His intellectual curiosity extends to examining Donald Hoffman's ideas on reality and consciousness from “The Case Against Reality,” and exploring metaphysical, epistemological, and ontological aspects of consciousness through documentary scenes. Joel also engages in abstract discussions on the ontological impact of the present and delves into the past from both metaphysical and historical perspectives. His multifaceted experiences and deep philosophical inquiries make him a dynamic and insightful voice in contemporary philosophical discourse. Listen & Subscribe on: iTunes / Stitcher / Podbean / Overcast / Spotify Contact Info Website: https://jbouchard.podbean.com/ Most Influential Person My mom Effect On Emotions I would say that I've become better at expressing my emotions. My friends refer to me as the robot because I generally tend to be pretty unemotional. And, you know, that's good. It's good to be even-keeled, but it can also be negative if you freeze or shut down when in negative circumstances. So, the biggest impact for me is that it's helped me express happiness and joy and also to be able to identify with emotions without getting caught up in them without being angry. I can identify that this is an angry emotion and a justified emotion. Then I can decide how I should act with this information. Thoughts On Breathing As someone who's pretty new to meditation, breathing is something that I still struggle with a little bit. They tell you that you're not supposed to breathe loud, but I always find myself breathing loud because I'm using that to focus my attention. In Zen meditation, this is a subject of controversy. Some Zen masters say you can count your breaths, while others say don't. So I mix the two. You know, for the first 10, I count the in-breath and the out-breath, one, two, and then for the next 10, I only count the out-breath. So in one in two, then after that, I go to not counting. But I find myself still breathing very deeply. I think it helps with relaxation and focus. Sometimes, it can steal attention away from the internal focus on what's happening in the mind. Bullying Story I believe bullying is a problem rooted in a lack of mindfulness on the bully's part. I have a story about being mindful from the other side. During my time in the army, we had an exercise in basic training where we used pugil sticks, like on American Gladiators, to fight each other. The drill sergeant insisted everyone participate, but I didn't volunteer because I didn't want to fight. At the end, the drill sergeant singled me out to fight the biggest guy, nicknamed the Widowmaker, who was six foot five and 280 pounds. Though I didn't want to fight, I had been mindful and observed the fights closely. When it was my turn, I pretended to cower, turned to the side, and ducked down. As he came close, I jammed the end of my stick into his helmet, causing him to fall. I won the fight. This experience taught me that mindfulness can help you navigate difficult situations, even when facing a bigger, more imposing opponent.
