Welcome to the 80th episode of Giving Back Insights, my Thursday solo show where I talk about how our guests and their charities serve others, to explore actions each of can take to make a difference in people’s lives and to share. Today I’m discussing Family values. Listen to today’s episode and don’t forget to give your feedback and valuable comment. Enjoy! Key Takeaways: Dykes on Bikes kick us off Solemn: remember Pulse nightclub Flamboyant: calendars and high walkers Risque: Bears and furries (go Rochester!) Solidarity: churches, unions Corporate: Apple, Kaiser, Uber Political: Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, mayor-elect London Breed, my man Gavin! Progress: SFPD, Sheriff’s Dept and SFFD A few days ago I had a conversation with Vivien Hoexster from H2 Growth Strategies. We were talking about the book she wrote with her partner Linda C. Hartley, “Big Impact: Insights & Stories From America’s Non-‐Profit Leaders” and we got into a deep conversation about how the Freedom to Marry movement evolved. For years, this has been a family event for us. I want them to see what’s happening in our community and celebrate progress. Most of all I want them to see love and support. My friend Pastor Steve Stone from Heartsong church in Tennessee shared with me a letter he wrote in response to an email from “Beth” wanting to know if Steve and Heartsong had an open and affirming atmosphere to people of all walks of life. His reply was accepted as the stance of Heartsong Church on Monday, January 20, 2003 and included this passage: “We would rather stand before the Lord someday and hear him say, ‘You were a bit too liberal about the homosexual thing’, than to hear him say, ‘Your attitude about homosexuality really hurt some of my children and actually kept them from coming to know me and spend life with me.’” I decided that I could live my life with that philosophy, and go to my Creator open to the outcome. Remember: Always err on the side of love & kindness.
