in the 1960's, The Bee Gees became a top draw commercially in both Europe and America. Their sound was similar in vocal style to The Beatles, and they later became one of the best-selling groups of all time. Though the 1970s Disco era gave the band a second life, it's the symphonic pop sounds of the 1960s that first established the band as an important entity. Listen to previous shows at the main webpage at:https://www.buzzsprout.com/1329053Also, these sites of interest:Please help in the relief effort to help the people of Los Angeles who have been affected by those horrific fires.  Please consider making a donation to The Red Cross to find shelter, clean drinking water and other necessities that are desperately needed. got to http://www.redcross.org to make a donation.Donate Now - Online Donations | American Red CrossMake an impact on the lives of St. Jude kids - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org)Kathy Bushnell Website for Emily Muff bandHome | Kathy Bushnell | Em & MooPamela Des Barres Home page for books, autographs, clothing and online writing classes.Pamela Des Barres | The Official Website of the Legendary Groupie and Author (pameladesbarresofficial.com)Listen to more music by Laurie Larson at:Home | Shashké Music and Art (laurielarson.net)View the most amazing paintings by Marijke Koger-Dunham (Formally of the 1960's artists collective, "The Fool").Psychedelic, Visionary and Fantasy Art by Marijke Koger (marijkekogerart.com)For unique Candles have a look at Stardust Lady's Etsy shopWhere art and armor become one where gods are by TwistedByStardust (etsy.com)For your astrological chart reading, contact Astrologer Tisch Aitken at:https://www.facebook.com/AstrologerTisch/Tarot card readings by Kalinda available atThe Mythical Muse | FacebookFor booking Children's parties and character parties in the Los Angeles area contact Kalinda Gray at:https://www.facebook.com/wishingwellparties/I'm listed in Feedspot's "Top 10 Psychedelic Podcasts You Must Follow". https://blog.feedspot.com/psychedelic_podcasts/  Please feel free to donate or Tip Jar the show at my Venmo account@jessie-DelgadoII

He loves everything that his teammates, coaches, and spectators have taught him throughout his time as an athlete. Kody competes in basketball as the captain. Throughout his career, Fred has worked with Fortune 500 companies and service organizations across the U.S., helping leaders cultivate meaningful connections and drive success. Fred Reggie an executive coach, international speaker, and expert in leadership and service culture development. He is well-known in our community and for years spent his time building funding resources for  St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause dear to many of our hearts. The Power of Communication Fred believes that genuine communication stems from an internal motivation to share a message with others. However, many people struggle with seeing the value they bring to conversations, often due to deep-seated self-doubt and imposter syndrome. He explores how, from an early age, we are celebrated for speaking but later conditioned to limit our expressions, being told to quiet down or avoid talking to strangers. This conditioning, Fred explains, creates subconscious barriers. As adults, many of us hesitate to speak up because we question whether our words have value. Moreover, societal norms and technology have reshaped how we communicate, further distancing us from authentic, face-to-face interactions. The Disruption of Conversation Fred discusses how technology has altered human connection. Younger generations, he notes, often prefer texting over direct conversation, avoiding phone calls altogether. "Cocooned communication," as Fred calls it, has been evolving for decades—beginning with the automobile, which removed people from their porches and into isolated vehicles, and continuing with the rise of television, personal computers, and smartphones. Today, many people live in bubbles of self-communication, limiting the organic conversations that once thrived in everyday life. The Art of "Tell Me" At the heart of Fred's book is a simple yet profound concept: using the phrase "Tell me" to invite others into meaningful conversations. Rather than asking closed-ended questions, this approach encourages people to share freely, fostering deeper connections. He recalls a powerful moment when James Earl Jones, upon meeting an adoring fan, responded not with a simple "Who are you?" but with "Tell me your name." That small shift in language made the woman feel seen and valued. Fred encourages using this technique in all conversations, whether personal or professional, to create an environment of trust and engagement. The Neuroscience of Connection Fred emphasizes that engaging conversations have a physiological impact. When we participate in meaningful discussions, our brains release oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin—chemicals that enhance emotional intelligence, empathy, and overall well-being. Conversely, negative or disconnected conversations can leave us feeling drained and isolated. The Legacy of Storytelling Growing up in a Lebanese family, Fred was surrounded by master storytellers who didn't just recount events but embodied the characters they spoke about. He believes that storytelling is fundamental to great conversation—it transforms the exchange of information into a compelling, memorable experience. Fred encourages people to embrace storytelling in their daily interactions, whether through professional networking or personal relationships. He also urges listeners to recognize the ripple effect of their words, as every interaction has the power to uplift or deflate another person. A Call to Action: Create Conversational Moments Fred concludes with a simple yet powerful challenge: create conversational moments. He encourages listeners to step outside their comfort zones, engage with strangers, and make genuine connections. By doing so, we can break the cycle of disconnected communication and bring back the lost art of conversation.

At just 15 years old, Arsh Pal is an artist and philanthropist dedicated to making a difference through creativity and compassion. His journey began at the age of 8 when he discovered a passion for art while exploring various hobbies. Acrylic painting, mixed media, and pencil sketches quickly became his favorite mediums, and he started sharing his artwork with friends and family. His inspiration for giving back came from visits to the nursing home where his mother works as an occupational therapist. Witnessing the loneliness and struggles of the residents, Arsh found joy in bringing smiles to their faces through conversation and therapy games. Deeply moved by these interactions, he was inspired to sell his artwork to support those in need.Setting an initial fundraising goal of $1,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Arsh embarked on a mission to use his art for a greater purpose. Surpassing that goal fueled his passion further, and to date, he has raised and donated over $22,000 to various charities, with a strong focus on St. Jude.Beyond fundraising, Arsh is honored to donate his paintings for charity auctions, create live paintings at nonprofit events, and teach art to children and adults. For over five years, he has volunteered at nursing homes, leading art lessons as a recreational activity to uplift residents.Arsh also strives to inspire others through leadership roles. As a board member of Giving Tuesday and the Loukoumi Foundation, he works to promote kindness and generosity. What an incredible story! We had the chance to chat with Hayley Arceneaux, the author of the new children's book "Astronaut Hayley's Brave Adventure." Hayley's journey is truly inspiring - from overcoming childhood cancer to becoming an actual astronaut!  Hayley shared how she was diagnosed with bone cancer at just 10 years old. But with the amazing care she received at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, she was able to beat the disease and even went on to work at the hospital as a physician associate, helping other kids with cancer.  But Hayley's story took an even more incredible turn when she was unexpectedly invited to join the first all-civilian mission to orbit the Earth with SpaceX. After months of intense training, Hayley spent 3 days in space, an experience she describes as "life-changing." Now she's sharing that experience with kids through her new picture book. We also spoke with Michelle Person, the creator of the "Meanwhile in Africa" social studies curriculum. Michelle is on a mission to make history education more inclusive and accurate, highlighting the amazing accomplishments and perspectives of Africans and the African diaspora.  Rather than just focusing on the negatives like slavery and famine, "Meanwhile in Africa" celebrates the rich history, culture, and innovations that have come from the continent. Michelle wants kids to associate Africa with "glory, prominence, and pride" rather than outdated stereotypes. It was so inspiring to hear about these two incredible initiatives that are empowering the next generation in different ways. Whether it's Hayley's personal story of overcoming adversity or Michelle's efforts to rewrite the narrative around Africa, these are the kinds of uplifting, eye-opening conversations we need more of. On January 6, the U.S. reported its first human death from the bird flu. According to the CDC, more than 60 people were diagnosed with bird flu in the US last year, up from just one case in 2022.If you look at global cases over the last two decades, of the nearly 900 reported cases in people, roughly half the patients died.H5N1 avian influenza has been circulating in birds—and even some mammals—for years. But in the spring of 2024, the virus turned up in dairy cattle. Since then, over 900 herds have been affected, according to the CDC.This might bring back memories from early in the COVID-19 pandemic—but is that the right way to think about this? Should we be concerned? And what steps should we be taking? To unpack this, host Flora Lichtman talks with Dr. Seema Lakdawala, co-director for the Center for Transmission of Airborne Pathogens and associate professor studying influenza viruses at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia; and Dr. Richard Webby, director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Studies on the Ecology of Influenza in Animals and Birds and virologist at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.Transcripts for each segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com. In this episode of the First Day Podcast, host Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D., welcomes Christopher Beck, CAP, Principal Gift Advisor at ALSAC/St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, to demystify the complexities of planned gift fundraising. Often seen as daunting and overly technical, planned giving involves helping donors consider their legacy while navigating tax and estate planning strategies. Christopher shares insights on how fundraisers can overcome these challenges by focusing on relationships, listening for donor cues, and fostering meaningful conversations about long-term philanthropic impact. A central theme of the discussion is the collaborative nature of planned giving. Christopher emphasizes that success in planned gift fundraising is a team effort. Donors typically involve family members, CPAs, and attorneys in their decisions, and fundraisers must also rely on colleagues and external experts to address technical complexities. While planned giving can be a lengthy process, its foundation lies in the trust built with donors, many of whom are long-time supporters already engaged in annual and major giving campaigns. The conversation also explores diversifying planned giving efforts. Christopher highlights the importance of reaching younger donors, like Millennials, who are increasingly engaged in philanthropy, as well as donors from diverse racial backgrounds. He shares strategies for building trust, breaking down financial jargon, and tailoring approaches to different demographics. For example, engaging younger donors might involve discussing their legacy early, particularly during life milestones like starting a family or buying a home. The episode concludes with a reminder that planned giving is an investment in the future of nonprofit organizations. Bill encourages listeners to explore The Fund raising School's Planned Gift Management Certificate, a comprehensive resource designed to equip fundraisers with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this field. This program offers tools to help nonprofits unlock the transformative potential of planned gifts, all while centering the donor's vision and legacy. Scientists have found that just one mutation in the current H5N1 virus in cattle can switch its preference from avian to human receptors. Jim Paulson and colleagues at the Scripps Institute did not use the whole virus to investigate this, but proteins from one of the Texas farm workers found to be infected. It suggests the bovine H5N1 virus has already evolved subtly. Meanwhile, Richard Webby of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis helps us catch up on the latest known about the case of the Canadian teenager taken seriously ill a month ago with a different variant of avian H5N1. A debate has been rumbling this last year about the extent of ocean warming by, perhaps paradoxically, the reduction of particulate pollution from the fuel used by ships. The idea is that the small particles of sulphates and nitrates in the soot from funnels actually formed clouds over shipping lanes out at sea. This in turn sheltered the oceans to some extent from solar radiation, thus making latter decades of the 20th century seem cooler than they would have measured today. Hence, removing the particulate pollution from bunker fuel, mandated by the International Maritime Organisation a few years ago, may have contributed to the surge in ocean temperatures witnessed in the last two years. Daniele Visione, of Cornell, and colleagues have done the modelling and found that there has indeed been a noticeable effect. But earth's oceans are certainly not as hot as Venus' ones, if indeed such oceans ever existed. It has long been held that once upon a time our sunward neighbour might have possessed liquid water oceans, long since boiled off by runaway greenhouse effects of the atmosphere. But, breaking with science fiction visions of aliens paddling in temperate seas, Tereza Constantinou of Cambridge University has been looking at the gases coming out of the volcanos on Venus, and has concluded that the planet never had such surface water, basically because the rocks from which magma is made don't billow steam when they boil today. In this episode of the First Day Podcast, host Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D., speaks with Christopher Beck, CAP, Principal Gift Advisor for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, about practical strategies to diversify donor databases and foster inclusivity in philanthropy. Christopher shares insights into the current push for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in nonprofit work, emphasizing the importance of making potential donors feel represented and valued. He advocates for organizations to highlight diverse champions within their missions and ensure inclusive visuals in promotional materials to make people of color feel more connected to their causes. A key theme is the role of community relationships in fundraising. Christopher discusses the concept of "gatekeepers" within communities of color—individuals who hold trust and influence—and stresses the importance of engaging with them respectfully. He recounts personal experiences where persistence and trust-building turned skeptics into supporters. This relational approach, he notes, is essential in creating mutually beneficial partnerships and moving away from transactional interactions that have historically caused mistrust. The conversation also highlights structural changes nonprofits can make, such as diversifying boards of directors and celebrating donor inclusivity through initiatives like giving circles. Christopher explains that giving circles not only increase donor contributions but also foster a sense of community and mission alignment. He underscores that such strategies must evolve into broader integration of diverse donors into the organizational fabric, not just as separate activities. Christopher offers advice for fundraisers—especially those in a predominantly white profession—on leaning into conversations about diversity with humility and openness. He encourages connecting with affiliate organizations, acknowledging knowledge gaps, and building trust through genuine relationship-building. The episode wraps with Bill reminding listeners of the school's comprehensive approach to integrating DEIB principles into all its courses, reflecting their commitment to fostering inclusivity in philanthropy.
