My guest today has a resource that can help you jump start your savings goals. That resource is Military Saves Week. As a spouse of an active-duty Army soldier, Alecia understands the challenges of military life and believes deeply in the mission of Military Saves to help service members and their families save money. There are a lot of initiatives out there focused on financial education. Remember back in January we spoke with Gina about Women's Money Week? One thing that I want to be doing more of is helping to raise awareness of these campaigns that already exist. In this bonus episode we talk with JJ Montanaro and Andrew Porch from USAA about Military Saves Week which is a part of America Saves Week. We talk about what it is, the importance of this campaign, some success stories, and what USAA has done internally within their company (which is pretty cool). Even though the official week happened February 27th-March 4th you can still take the pledge through the end of March. I've taken the pledge, will you take the pledge with me? Sophie and Katherine from TLC's DC Cupcakes join us to chat about their upcoming episode OPERATION CUPCAKE. Plus, USAA's June Walbert, Certified Financial Planner, stops in to help us with stress free saving tips after last week's Military Saves Week. -- Additional info on DC Cupcakes: Tonight on DC CUPCAKES, Sophie and Katherine are given a special assignment to bake 10,000 cupcakes for the troops in Afghanistan. Baking thousands of cupcakes is no easy task, but choosing which flavor to send makes it even tougher. To help decide, it's time for a good old fashion bake-off. The sisters, Andres, Hanna, and Mommy square off with the help of five Pentagon chefs. Three judges – including Deborah Mullen, wife of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff -- will then decide which cupcake flavor will best serve our country. Bragging rights are up for grabs as this promises to be one of the toughest bake-offs yet. Back-to-back episodes of DC CUPCAKES airs March 4 on TLC beginning with “Shoe-in” at 10:00 PM, followed by “Operation Cupcake” at 10:30 PM (ET/PT). DC CUPCAKES follows sisters and business partners Sophie LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis and the colorful crew at Georgetown Cupcake. Batter will splatter and icing will fly as each half-hour goes behind-the-scenes to capture the trials and tribulations of running a bustling family business.
