Hospitality isn't a styled table—it's how people feel in your presence. In this heart-tugging conversation, Abby Kuykendall reframes hospitality as the art of helping others feel known, loved, and seen—whether you meet in a tiny apartment, a messy kitchen, or a neighborhood park. She draws a bright line between entertaining (me-focused aesthetics) and hospitality (others-focused welcome), shares the spiritual roots behind “practice hospitality,” and gets real about rejection—why a few no's shouldn't stop you from inviting again. With stories from her own seasons of life, Abby shows how rhythms change (hello, nap schedules) but the mission doesn't, and why outdoor gatherings often make connection simpler, cheaper, and more relaxed. You'll leave with practical moves you can try tonight: start with an invitation, set two or three “non-negotiables” (clean-ish bathroom, empty sink, drinks ready), and keep food simple—potlucks with specific asks, air-fried crowd-pleasers, or even “waffles at 10” after a game. Abby also spotlights her cookbook The Living Table and the snack-drawer mindset that tells guests, “Make yourself at home.” If you've ever delayed community until your house, budget, or schedule looked “perfect,” this episode is your permission slip to begin—outside if you can, imperfectly on purpose, with an invitation that opens the door to real connection. Some of the IMA's most successful Insight leaders have gone one step further, and estimated the value that the Insight team itself has added each year, ultimately expressing this as a return on Insight investment. In today's episode, James talks to two senior UK Insight leaders, Danny Russell (ex Sky and O2) and Suzanne Lugthart (formerly with ebay, ITV and Rightmove). They have just launched a new initiative called Bigger Than Biscuits that aims to catalogue some great examples of how Insight, research and analysis have added value to business decisions.Has your research led to a successful advertising campaign? Has your analysis led to cost savings or increased revenue by relocating stores or the way products are displayed in them? Has your joined-up insight helped reshape company strategy and unlocked hidden growth opportunities? If it has, your work could be an invaluable addition to this initiative and help other Insight professionals make the case for greater investment in Insight. Please listen to find out more! Topics DiscussedIntroducing Bigger Than Biscuits (2.56)Are CMOs spending less on market research? (6.59)Insight as a cost or investment? It's the stuff that feeds the creative platform development. It's all the work we do. I mean it's even stuff like customer experience research. It's anything that can help us diagnose a problem in a business so they can go and do something that will put it all right.” (04:46)“So those stories are there, but people just need the courage to let us work with them to get them out there. The point is that we have to assume that these very important stakeholders around the business let's call it nicely don't really understand and let's be realistic and say they don't really care about the incredible work that we're doing or the stresses that we're under, or the budgetary constraints, etc.” (17.19)“We'd go along and say, okay, you want our time and our budget, so tell me about this thing you're working on, how much money is it going to make and how much are we going to make a difference? And some of them hadn't really thought through and it was good for them to go back, and then they felt they were in this competition for our time and attention and suddenly you feel really quite elevated.” (24.46)“It's about being loud and proud, and if people are still too nervous about that, then just get onto LinkedIn and give us a follow on Bigger Than Biscuits, because that will at least mean they start to see the sort of work that we're doing. .” (29.41) This is episode 79 of the Transforming Insight podcast. This week, we debate whether one of us is a superhuman eater or a complete liar after he describes a breakfast that defies the laws of physics. That spirals into a discussion on the cardinal sin of raising your own food: giving it a name.We also witness one of the most incredible self-destructions in sports history, breaking down a football game where a team did everything possible to lose. It's a masterclass in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. You gotta hear it to believe it.
Dallas Bonds with Magpies; Cockatoos Attack Neighbor's Roof GUEST NAME: Jeremy Zachis Dallas, unfazed, continues his friendship with the magpies, letting them play with his toys (whose artificial fibers they use for nests) and eat his biscuits. The segment also highlights the destructive behavior of cockatoos, who are now trying to dismantle a neighbor's corrugated iron roof by pulling out the iron and steel roofing nails with their beaks.
This week we come to a parable where Jesus teaches about mustard and biscuits. Aside from being a really dated movie reference, I love how raw and unpretentious this image is. As usual, his parables are about the kingdom of God, and they are designed to surprise. In this case, where you'd expect grandiose images of his kingship, he instead points at a shrub and a cook in the kitchen. What kind of king has a shrub for his state tree? And how does making bread demonstrate the economics of his kingdom? Jesus is not just challenging their ideas about what a king looks like or even how his kingdom grows; he's challenging what they think 'growth' and 'advancement' mean for their own lives. Let's talk about how his kingdom advances like "Mustard & Biscuits" (Matthew 13:31-33).

Former Razorback David Bazzel may be one of the most recognizable names in Arkansas. He played linebacker for the UofA in 1984 and had a total of 113 tackles. He was sidelined due to shoulder and back injures. “I think all of the football I played taught me a lot of discipline and taught me to grind and work hard,” says Bazzel. He created the Broyles Award, now going on 25 years, and the Touchdown Club, which brings in big names from all over the country. He is also responsible for the “Battle for the Boot,” and the Tusk Fund. For David, it's all about giving recognition to those who deserve it, while putting Arkansas in the spotlight. In the fall of 1998, Bazzel wrote and starred in a one man play titled Football, Biceps, Biscuits and Gravy: Confessions of a Razorback. Due to lack of ticket sales, the show closed before opening night. “You win some, you lose some,” Bazzel said, adding he has “no problem eating a little humble pie.” You can find Bazzel on TV during Razorback football season as a pre-game host and commentator, as well as doing his full-time job at 103.7 The Buzz.

✦ From a memorable guest appearance in the hit TV show "Atlanta" to a leading role in the slasher "I Know What You Did Last Summer," Atlanta resident Tyriq Withers has spent the past three years skyrocketing into one of Hollywood's most desired newcomers. Now, he's taking on his most anticipated role yet in the upcoming Jordan Peele-produced thriller "Him." Withers plays Cameron Cade, an aspiring professional football player who, after a week of training with his childhood sports idol, realizes the price of fame and the sacrifices required to be considered one of the greatest of all time. City Lights Collective member Kenny Murray spoke to the young star about his acting journey and what viewers can expect from the film. ✦ Going to Brunch in Atlanta can seem like a sport. Even if you know some tricks for navigating the notoriously long lines, the cost can sometimes price people out of the game. In our mini-series, "Brunchin' on a Budget," we look at a few special Atlanta Brunch spots that can help you keep your wallet intact. Today, for the final installment of the series, WABE arts reporter Summer Evans takes us to Eat My Biscuits in East Point. ✦ National Food Service Worker Day is September 25, and the new Atlanta-made Horror/Comedy, "We're So Dead," is premiering just in time. Food service workers primarily produced the film through a crowdfunding campaign and opening night proceeds benefit The Giving Kitchen. City Lights Co-host Kim Drobes has more. ✦ Musical scores enrich the content they surround and help create the mood and tone of films, television, and even video games. Dr. Scott Stewart has been studying and teaching this aspect of music for decades, and he joins us occasionally for Music in Media. In this segment, he breaks down the sounds behind some of entertainment's most popular offerings. Today, he talks about the scores of this past season of Summer Blockbusters. ✦ We love hearing from our artistic community In Their Own Words. This is where they tell us who they are, what they do, what they love, and a few things you might not see coming. What things? Who knows, there's only one way to find out. Today, we hear from Atlanta artist Eddie Farr. ✦ What does it mean to reckon with your past and the place you call home? John T. Edge, the Emmy Award-winning host of "TrueSouth," documents his attempts to do just that in his new memoir, "House of Smoke: A Southerner Goes Searching for Home." Out now, the book offers an unflinching look at his successes, failures, and the complicated stories he inherited from his family and the South. City Lights Collective member and "Bookmarked" contributor Alison Law recently talked to Edge ahead of his upcoming Georgia appearances.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Lisa states that biscuit week is her favorite, and the girls go back and forth about the biscuit/cookie difference. Allison and Lisa discuss the difficulty level of the signature bake, and both girls praise Jessika's sliced bacon and egg cookie slices. When the perfect hobnob presents itself as the technical, Lisa believes that she could do this challenge, especially given her skills in carmel making.Allison questions whether or not the bakers are truly given NO instruction for technicals, and, Lisa shares a social media post about understanding the ratios in certain baked goods, insisting the knowledge of such could make you successful without a recipe. Lisa and Allison get into yet another "jump the shark" discussion about this week's showstopper. However, they are quick to praise the major accomplishments of bakers Jessika and Pui man. Lisa states that the Poy man's "JUMBO boat time capsule is on par with Paul's season 6 bread lion from season 6. For the thousands of attendees, it had some similarities to a lot of folk music events around the country. But one major thing set it apart: Nearly every featured performer was Black. The event is just one part of a Black folk music revival sweeping the country that's rescuing lost traditions and challenging stereotypes that for generations have influenced things like who gets to play the banjo in America. This episode is part of a collaboration between WUNC North Carolina Public Radio and WPLN Nashville Public Radio.Featuring: Jewly Hight, senior music writer at Nashville Public Radio - WPLN Rhiannon Giddens, musician and member of Carolina Chocolate Drops Dom Flemons, musician and member of Carolina Chocolate Drops Brandi Waller-Pace, musician and scholar Kaia Kater, musician and member of New Dangerfield

After last week's pre-recorded interview, there's plenty in the financial markets to unpack—from the muted moves during the holiday-shortened week to the latest ISM Manufacturing Index and the Fed's Beige Book. We break down two weeks of market action and the economic data you don't want to miss. The NFL is back—and so is big business as the 2025–2026 season kicks off. With team valuations up 25% year-over-year to an average of $6.5 billion as of 2024, and the Dallas Cowboys setting a new record, we're looking at the dollars behind the game. From Fantasy Football to futures contracts on who will win, there's money to be made on and off the field—which raises the question: could NFL teams one day show up in your 401(k)?On the topic of football, the buzz isn't only on the field. The engagement between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce takes the spotlight and they open the door to a financial conversation that goes far beyond celebrity gossip: prenuptial agreements. With Swift's billion-dollar empire and Kelce's multimillion-dollar career, the question isn't about romance, it's about protection. We'll dig into what prenups can do, why they're not just for the ultra-wealthy, and how couples can approach these conversations without derailing the love story. After the break, we dig into the future of U.S. capitalism. Is Washington becoming Wall Street's biggest investor? With a 15% stake in MP Materials and nearly 10% in Intel, the government is taking positions in the same companies citizens invest in. We explore what this means for free-market capitalism, efforts to secure supply chains, and whether bipartisan disillusionment with globalization is reshaping America's economic playbook. And speaking of government butting into business—it's reported that Trump personally called up Cracker Barrel, urging them to revert their logo after backlash over its redesign. We'll discuss the misstep and look at other companies that have made major branding blunders.Henssler Money Talks — September 6, 2025 | Season 39, Episode 36Timestamps and Chapters4:46: What's Driving the Markets14:27: Gridiron Gold26:47: Love Songs to Legal Clauses36:24: Sam's New Portfolio52:35: Biscuits to BacklashFollow Henssler: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HensslerFinancial/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/HensslerFinancial LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/henssler-financial/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hensslerfinancial/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hensslerfinancial?lang=en X: https://www.x.com/hensslergroup “Henssler Money Talks” is brought to you by Henssler Financial. We're talking about those fleeting connections, the unexpected conversations, and the bizarre moments that make a trip unforgettable. Then, we're switching gears completely. We're talking about women who wear body-shaping tights to hide excess skin from weight loss and trick us men into thinking they have a nice shape. Are these tights a welcome deception or a cruel trick? Tune in to hear our hilarious take on this modern mystery. It's an episode you won't want to miss.
This time on Basic Folk, we are checking in with country singer-songwriter and Color Me Country radio host Rissi Palmer and Americana country artist Miko Marks. The two close friends both came up as Black women in country music in the early part of the 21st century where they experienced gatekeepers and discrimination in the industry, but undeniable love from listeners. Both stepped away from music for several years, but have since come back and found their audiences, artistic grooves, and industry independence. We last spoke with the pair in 2023 (you gotta go listen to that convo if ya missed it!) and have wanted them back on ever since!Rissi and Miko dive into who they think is making waves and positive change in country and Americana. We talk about rising pop-country singer Adell Tanner and her 2023 hit "Buckle Bunny," a song that's clearly written for a different kind of country music fan (read: young Black women). Rissi mentions having Mississippi country sensation KIRBY on her show recently and promises her upcoming 'Miss Black America' to be a monster of an album. There was a lot of consensus on the podcast that Madeline Edwards has released the best album of 2025 with her record 'Fruit,' where she digs into the extreme grief and extreme joy she experienced after her brother passed away.Elsewhere, we also touch on the pair's experiences at Rhiannon Giddens' inaugural Biscuits & Banjos fest in Durham earlier this year, an event dedicated to reclamation and exploration of Black music. We talk about Alice Randall's new compilation, 'My Black Country - The Songs of Alice Randall,' a collection of Randall compositions recorded by Black women – including selections performed by both Miko and Rissi. We talk about audiences in London versus the US, a contrast BF co-host Lizzie as well as Rissi and Miko have experienced first hand. In fact, Rissi has been curating a Color Me Country stage at The Long Road Festival in Leicestershire, England for the past four years. We hope you learn something new, get some insight into what's happening in Americana for musicians who are Black, and gain some joy from listening to Rissi and Miko's hilarious banter.Follow Basic Folk on social media: https://basicfolk.bio.link/Sign up for Basic Folk's newsletter: https://bit.ly/basicfolknewsHelp produce Basic Folk by contributing: https://basicfolk.com/donate/Interested in sponsoring us?
