In this captivating episode of On the Brink with Andi Simon, I welcomes an unstoppable force in the world of finance, Victoria Woods—entrepreneur, wealth advisor, speaker, author, and the renowned Financial Diva. What makes Victoria's story so compelling isn't just her success in managing money for millionaires and billionaires—it's how she got there, and what she's teaching women everywhere about stepping into financial power. Victoria's journey began in humble, even challenging circumstances. Growing up poor, abandoned by her father at 11, she learned early how to hustle, survive, and eventually thrive. From organizing games for neighborhood kids to modeling for Montgomery Ward in exchange for school clothes, she was a born entrepreneur. But it was her uncanny ability to see opportunity where others saw limits that ultimately launched her into success. Women, It is Time To Master Your Money Her first “real” pivot came while working in retail. Rather than taking a promotion, she pitched a new concierge buying service to her boss—a bold move that soon had executives handing her their credit cards and letting her shop for their wardrobes. That fearless innovation caught the attention of a financial executive who saw something unique in Victoria: resilience, determination, and an uncanny knack for follow-through. He recruited her into the world of financial advising. Seven months later, Victoria took the leap—and never looked back. Now the founder and CEO of ChappelWood Financial Services in Edmond, Oklahoma, Victoria advises high-net-worth individuals, particularly women who are often underserved or underrepresented in wealth management. But her mission is broader: to educate and empower women about their finances, especially business owners who need to understand, not fear, their numbers. Watch our podcast video on YouTube here: Key Lessons from Victoria Woods on Women, Money and Mastering Your Future 1. Your Gut Is Your Superpower—But So Are Your Numbers. Victoria reminds listeners that while your instincts matter, success demands fluency in your financials. “If you're not comfortable with the numbers, you've got to get comfortable,” she says. “You should be able to read your profit and loss statements, understand your balance sheet, and question your accountant.” Her practical advice: take an accounting class—even if you're already running a company. Know your numbers or risk being run by them. 2. Don't Outsource What You Don't Understand. Too many women assume someone else—often a spouse—will handle their finances. Victoria pushes back. “90% of women will manage their own money at some point in their life,” she says. “You must know what you own, owe, spend, and invest.” Whether you're growing a business, selling one, or inheriting one, financial literacy is not optional. 3. Exit on Your Own Terms. One of Victoria's most powerful messages is about preparing for what's next. Succession planning, business exits, and legacy planning all require strategic thought before there's a crisis. “Don't plan in the middle of a tornado,” she says. “Start when the sun is shining.” She shares how she's guided women through inheriting family businesses, navigating complex buyouts, and staying strong in boardrooms full of skeptics. 4. Build Your Team with Intention. When hiring financial advisors, accountants, or legal professionals, Victoria encourages women to trust both their head and their heart. “Would you want to have dinner with this person every month?” she asks. Chemistry and clarity matter. Her book, It's All About the Money, Honey!, includes practical questions women should ask potential advisors—plus the answers they should expect to hear. 5. Serve First, Sell Second. At the heart of her success is a simple philosophy: be the easy button. Whether solving a client's complex tax issue or finding an international attorney for a property dispute, her focus is always service. That's how she built a practice with 100% retention and a global clientele. “Clients don't want more work,” she says. “They want someone who makes their lives easier.” You can read more in her book, "It's All About the Money, Honey," on Amazon. Why This Conversation about Money and Women Matters Now Women control more wealth today than at any time in history, and the number of women-owned businesses is soaring. Yet many still feel unprepared to manage that wealth with confidence. This episode is a powerful reminder that financial empowerment is about knowledge, confidence, and the courage to ask questions. As Victoria says, “Don't take advice from broke people—physically, financially, or spiritually.” Whether you're launching a startup, scaling a company, or planning a graceful exit, take time to get financially fluent. The future is female—and she should be well-funded. Learn More To learn more about Victoria Woods, visit ChappelWood.com or search for The Financial Diva online. 287. The $68 Trillion Wealth Transfer: Why the Future of Money is Feminine with Chelsea Williams

The Game On Girlfriend Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 1, 2025 35:41

The largest wealth transfer in human history is already underway - and women are positioned to inherit the majority of it. But most women aren't prepared for what's coming, and the implications extend far beyond individual bank accounts. In this transformative episode, I sit down with Chelsea Williams, fractional CFO and self-proclaimed "money whisperer," who reveals the shocking truth about women's exclusion from the financial system and why the next 20 years will reshape society itself. Chelsea accidentally discovered accounting in college when everyone told her to avoid it. That "mistake" led to a career revelation: she had a natural gift for numbers, but more importantly, she understood that money conversations needed a completely different approach - especially for women. Episode Highlights: The Historical Context Most Women Don't Know Chelsea breaks down the "financial algorithm" - how the financial system was built by and for white male property owners for 99% of its existence. Women couldn't even get credit cards without male co-signers until 50 years ago. We were literally listed as assets on men's financial applications. The Coming Wealth Revolution, as baby boomers pass away over the next two decades, trillions of dollars will transfer to their heirs - with the majority going to women. This represents the first time in history that women will control this level of wealth, but it also threatens to dramatically widen the wealth gap. Why Women Handle Money Differently Research shows that when women control financial resources, entire communities benefit. We're natural multipliers - whatever you give us, we make it grow and share it. But we've been taught to negotiate and invest using masculine strategies that don't align with our strengths. A Revolutionary Social Impact Vision Chelsea shares her groundbreaking project: converting vacant nursing homes (left empty as boomers pass away) into supportive community living spaces for single mothers, complete with financial literacy programs, childcare, and mentorship. It's a perfect example of how women can use inherited wealth to create systemic change. The Skills We Need Now Financial literacy isn't optional anymore - it's essential preparation for this generational shift. But Chelsea emphasizes we don't need to become masculine to succeed. We need to lean into our natural strengths while building competency in negotiation, investment strategy, and wealth management. What You'll Learn: Why the wage gap is partially about skills we were never taught (and how to close it) The generational patterns embedded in women's DNA around money How to prepare yourself and your business for unprecedented economic change Why supporting other women isn't just nice - it's strategically essential The balance needed as men navigate their changing role in this new paradigm   This conversation will fundamentally shift how you think about money, opportunity, and your role in the largest wealth transfer in human history. The future truly is feminine - but only if we step into it with intention and preparation. Guest Bio: Chelsea Williams is a fractional CFO, money strategist, and founder of Money Mastery. With over a decade of experience working with entrepreneurs and individuals on their finances, she's discovered that money conversations are "always and never about the money." Her mission is to splash color on the traditionally black-and-white topic of finance, especially for women preparing for unprecedented economic opportunity. In this episode, we confront a truth many couples avoid: one partner will likely outlive the other. Statistically, especially in heterosexual relationships, it's often the woman. That fact shapes the financial, emotional, and logistical choices couples need to make as they plan for retirement. We talk about why it's essential to create a shared plan—one that not only protects assets, but gives peace of mind to both people involved. We open by acknowledging that in many relationships, one person traditionally handles the finances. If that person passes first, the surviving partner can be left not only grieving, but scrambling to understand the financial puzzle. Amy shares how often she hears from women who feel anxious and uncertain when they're suddenly in charge. These women aren't incapable—they just haven't been part of the process. The heart of our conversation is about empowering both partners to be part of financial planning. Amy outlines the three big areas where questions tend to show up: understanding the financial picture, handling the emotional baggage around trust and confidence, and building knowledge to make informed decisions. It's not about control—it's about shared responsibility and kindness. We highlight how reframing conversations away from aging and death toward security and love can help bring both partners to the table more comfortably. We also touch on how crucial it is for the financially involved partner—often men in older generations—to help build a bridge of understanding and trust. Amy uses the metaphor of setting up a tent: it takes both people holding up their corner to make the structure stand. We talk practical next steps, including setting up regular financial check-ins, building a “what-if” folder with key documents and passwords, and ensuring both partners feel respected and heard in these discussions.Ultimately, we conclude that it's never too late to get involved, and one of the most powerful legacies anyone can leave behind is a partner who feels confident to navigate life after loss. This isn't just about money—it's about care, connection, and preparing for a future that's secure for both people in the relationship. In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, Kris Plachy introduces a profound and necessary conversation: What does it mean to be a well-resourced woman? Kris explores the essential resources women need—not just financially, but in energy, time, self-trust, and personal agency. She challenges listeners to examine how they advocate for themselves, manage their businesses, and take ownership of their decisions. Too often, women downplay their needs, defer their power, or operate on empty, believing they must do it all alone. But what if the key to unstoppable leadership lies in becoming truly well-resourced? Kris shares personal stories and reflections that have shaped her belief in the power of self-trust and financial agency. She urges women to ask themselves: Do I truly understand my finances? Am I managing my energy effectively? Do I trust myself in decision-making, even when others don't? Through this discussion, she highlights the necessity of prioritizing your own growth, support, and well-being in order to lead with clarity and strength. This episode is a call to rethink how you resource yourself—as a leader, a business owner, and a woman. Kris challenges you to take ownership of your energy, time, and financial agency, so you can lead with confidence and impact. Key Takeaways From This Episode What It Means to Be a Well-Resourced Woman: True leadership starts with how you invest in yourself. Financial Agency is Non-Negotiable: Understanding your money is a critical component of leadership and independence. Energy is a Vital Resource: Prioritizing well-being is key to maintaining influence and effectiveness. Self-Trust is the Core of Confidence: Believing in your ability to figure things out and make the right decisions. Are you always “saving” on little things here and there? You may not be the type of person who consistently saves 10% of their income for retirement, but anyone who knows you can tell you're the queen of frugality.  Between avoiding brand names at the grocery store (in favor of the Store Brand) and being a die-hard fan of a zero-waste lifestyle (did anyone say reused Mason jars?), you are the living embodiment of the frugal person. But, do you know how much money you are actually saving through your frugal lifestyle? Or, are these imaginary savings just that —a pretty illusion?  As a self-declared frugal person, a close friend of mine is always looking for new ways to save a couple hundred extra dollars a month. For the past six months, saving on fuel has become one of her biggest goals. On a regular recharging day, she travels to the other side of her city to refuel at a tiny gas station that charges 30% less than her regular Shell station. That sounds like a sweet deal…until you consider her regular station is just one block away from her apartment, but the cheaper place is 45 minutes away #gasp. My friend's example comes to my mind whenever I say that, sometimes,  being the most frugal person doesn't always help your bottom line. Our brains are so complex that, sometimes, being ultra-focused on saving a few dollars doesn't allow us to see the forest for the trees. And you know what's the most perplexing part? This mistake is more common than you think. This is why in this week's episode, I want to talk about frugality and the traps usually associated with our reflex of trying to cut down on expenses when finances are tight. In this episode you will learn: Why frugality, by itself,  is not enough to improve your financial situation. The 3 things you have to do to leverage a frugal lifestyle. One question you NEED to ask yourself before going frugal. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/181The post, [Summer Playlist] Lessons Learned From Frugality | 181  appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

If you have a budget, I'm sure you know why keeping track of your expenses is important. What you probably don't know is that daily ins and outs are not the only numbers worth tracking. In fact, if you want to truly stay on top of your finances there are four numbers you should keep an eye on. In this episode, I'll share what these numbers are, how to keep up with them, and why tracking them will make a difference in the long run. Keeping track of your expenses is an essential part of budgeting: there's just no way around it. However, I get why you might find this whole expense tracking thing a little bit tedious (or just plain boring!), especially if you are new-ish to budgeting and you're still working on creating a system that works for you.  If that sounds all too familiar, this week's episode might be just what you need. Today, we'll start with a quick review of the basics of expense tracking (a lil' refresher is always welcome!) and why it's important to keep up with those numbers. Then, we'll move on to the nitty-gritty of this week's topic: four not-so-common numbers that you should keep in mind when evaluating your finances. Most people don't usually see big, drastic changes in these numbers month over month, but that doesn't make them less important. Keeping a close eye on them will not only give you valuable info on your current financial situation, it will also help you find all sorts of growth opportunities. In this episode you will learn: Why expense tracking doesn't have to be tedious.3 expense types to keep up with (and why they matter).4 numbers that are not that common, but are worth keeping in your tracker. For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/402The post, Four Numbers You Need to Start Tracking Today | HDM 402 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear “money rules”? If you're anything like me, you probably think about complicated must-dos, or old-as-time financial practices that, by now, are pretty much set in stone. But, what if I told you that money rules don't have to be inflexible (or even tied to money per se) to be effective and life-changing? Would you believe me? Well, let's put that to the test! In today's episode, I'll share with you 8 money rules that have helped me take my money management to a whole new level. If every time you hear the words “money rules” you hear the distant echo of Scrooge McDuck rigidly screaming “I made my money by being tougher than the toughies and smarter than the smarties!”, maybe it's time to reconsider your approach to the concept of “rules” (plot twist: being inflexible is not part a money rule job description! #notreally). Here's the deal: when it comes to money management & finances, having rules that work is crucial. Not only they will help you make better decisions (and in less time), but they can also reduce the mental load that usually comes with money management. However, just because rules are important it doesn't mean they have to be rigid or set in stone. In fact. It's quite the opposite! My experience has taught me that the best money rules are those that are tailored to my situation and thus resonate deeply with my personal money story. And you know what? You can also have rules like these. This is why, in this episode, I'll share with you 8 money rules that have helped me take my money management to a whole new level. In this episode you will learn: The reason why not all money rules have to be about money (#gasp!)How to set up money rules that work for you… when you are rule-averse.Why creating your own money rules is 100% possibleFor a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/401The post, Money Rules That Don't Have To Do With Money? | HDM 401 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.

This week I'm sharing Her Dinero Matters Origin Story with you and the lessons I've taken home after recording 400 weekly episodes (#wild!). For most people (myself included), 400 may not feel like a huge number, but whenever I say out loud that I've spent almost nine years recording weekly podcast episodes to help women improve their relationships with money, I always get a shocked stare. NINE YEARS! That's a lifetime. And I'm sure that lifetime magic is what contributes to making this episode feel extra special. It all started in 2015 when podcasts that talked to women about money were not a very common sight. Yes, podcasting and financial advice in general existed, but the offer available back in the day did not match the specific vision I had in my head: a space where we could come together as women to talk about money, our money stories, and how those have impacted the way we lead our financial lives. Her Dinero Matters was born from that vision. Over the years, the podcast has evolved and shifted directions in various ways. Not only that: recording hundreds of interviews with all sorts of amazing guests has also taught me precious lessons that I wouldn't have learned otherwise. This special episode aims to celebrate all that!In this episode you will learn: A deep-dive into Her Dinero Matters Origin Story.Lessons learned after recording 400 episodes.Featured feedback from listeners! For a quick recap of this episode go to https://www.jenhemphill.com/400The post, 400 Episodes and STILL Going: Lessons Learned From the Podcasting Trenches  | HDM 400 appeared first on the Her Dinero Matters Podcast.
