Do you struggle to fit in self care during the busy seasons of your life? Do you feel guilty for taking time to take care of yourself? In this episode, J.Go breaks down the 7 types of self care and how to fit in little pockets of self love throughout even your busiest days.  Black Friday 2021 Deals: https://www.jgofitlife.com/2021deals  Connect with Jordan: @JGoFitLife https://www.instagram.com/jgofitlife Get on the waitlist for 2022 Body Confident Blueprint Coaching Program https://www.jgofitlife.com/bcb-waitlist Love Language Quiz link: https://www.jgofitlife.com/selflovequiz  Self care can look different in different seasons of your life. Sometimes you need more of one type than another.  Types of Self Care: Emotional: Examples of these could be taking time to journal, reflect, and process emotions. It could mean going to therapy.  Mental: Stimulate your mind and support a healthy psyche. Example of this could be listening to a podcast or book, practicing positive self-talk, establishing a routine, or keeping a gratitude journal.  Physical + Practical: Examples of this could be daily movement, eating whole foods, sleeping, resting, or organizing your space.  Social: Having deep connections with others, having a support system, calling your mom or someone similar  Personal + Professional: Having hobbies,  Spiritual: Feeding your soul, keeping boundaries, connect with your inner child How to get started: Ask yourself: What kind of self care do I need today? Where are you craving some TLC? It's easiest to start with 2-3 minutes in the morning Start with the basics: Sleep, water, daily movement Doing a daily audit every season: What are you consuming?   Start with what you're already going and modify the mindset behind it:  - Showering: Envision your highest self, and when she steps out of the shower you are here. Intentionally be present in the moment.  - Putting on lotion: Take 1-2 minutes more, celebrate your body and thank your body as you do it.  - Drinks coffee: attach that habit to something else you want to do. Coffee and journal. (gratitude, intentions)  - Walk your dog or take a walk: Instead of being on your phone, focus on the things around you: Breath. Practice gratitude. Notice nature. - Commute to work / Driving: podcast, call a friend. Listen to classical music. Whatever is going to feed your soul.  - Lunch break: A lot of people don't take a lunch break. Don't scroll on your phone during lunch. Go outside.  - Cooking and cleaning: Chores we feel like we have to do. Makes us go into it with a negative mindset and feeling frustrated. Pair it with something you enjoy doing, like a movie or a show.  - Brush your teeth: Pick up things, tidy the house.      “Give yourself permission to slow down. Give yourself permission to not do all the things all the time. You are allowed to slow down. You don't need to earn rest. rest is a priority, it is something you need. physically, mentally, and emotionally you need to take rest or you will burn out. “  “Don't let other people try to convince you that it's not possible to prioritize your self care and your needs. Not only is it possible, it is absolutely crucial that you do”

If you've been feeling disconnected with your body lately, then this episode is for you. J.Go teaches us the methods she's used to reconnect with her body: Nurture, Nature, Naked.  J.Go Lately:  Hosted the J.Go Retreat Had one of her biggest Body Confident Blueprint launches Coming off of that high, she felt lost, disconnected and confused. Why? “It's easy to get caught up in goals, and you can lose yourself in the process if you're not doing things that bring you joy everyday” She recognized that she did not feel connected to her body. Ask yourself: When do I feel the most connected to myself? (When do I feel most connected to God and the Universe?) For J.Go, it's three words: nurture, nature, naked 1) Nurture - Some tips on how to give yourself nourishment:  Write a letter to your younger self. Ask, “What would make you happy today?” It usually comes back to play If you feel like nothing can bring you joy anymore - ask for help.  Give yourself some TLC, make your favorite comfort food 2) Nature - Tips for how to be more present in nature: We're on our screens a lot more now and it's important to get outside.  The more you consume what others are doing, the more disconnected you feel  Go for a walk and be more present by breathing, listening, looking, and finding gratefulness 3) Naked - Options for being naked to love and affirm your body:  It's easy to focus on your worth outside of your body. Your worth isn't tied to your body, but your body still provides you life and deserves to be celebrated.  Dry brushing Putting on lotion that you love Say thank you to each part as you pamper it Baths gives us an opportunity to slow down in a vulnerable state Dance naked and take your time getting dressed Do yoga naked (or with less clothes on than usual) How to get started? Journal and ask yourself two questions:  - What do I do that makes me feel most connected to myself?  - Ask your younger self: What brings you joy? How can I find joy today?  Take one day a week for 5-10 minutes to journal. What's something we did really well this past week? What can we do to show ourselves more love this week?  “Life is short y'all. If you're feeling disconnected from yourself and you're going through the motions, you're missing out on what it fully feels like to live.”

“Lawyers get bogged down in minutiae and facts. The facts are important. The facts are the latticework upon which you hang the flesh of your case, and the flesh of your case is going to be the principles, the values, the emotion, the feelings, the betrayal; those types of things are what make a case relatable to a jury.” This week, Kenny Adair, former district judge and 2007 graduate of the Trial Lawyer College (TLC), attributes his success to TLC. When he left the program, he felt better equipped to discover and understand his clients' stories and tell them in a way that the jury would embrace. Through the use of reenactments, among other methods, he can discover the backstory and connect personally and emotionally to each case. Adair tells the essential story during voir dire, during the opening statement, when questioning the clients and witnesses, and during the closing argument. He identifies the hero or would-be hero and the villain, the liable party. He shows the villain's betrayal and is ready to capitalize on the defense counsel's trial behavior that compounds the original harm to the client.

Guiding listeners through the details of some of his most successful trials, Frank provides an insightful look at the personal values and political biases that can influence judges' and jurors' connections with our clients and the ultimate outcome of a case.

She has been featured by TLC, Entrepreneur, and Elite Daily as one of the top confidence coaches in the world. She specializes in helping high achievers think with more power, clarity, and belief. In this episode… Having self-doubt is part of being human, and failing to embrace this is the reason why many people suffer from imposter syndrome. Overthinking causes these feelings which, in the long term, drive people to perfectionism — and this can take a toll on their happiness. Overthinking amplifies your self-doubt and makes it louder than your beliefs, and you end up sidelining yourself and losing your self-confidence. As a confidence coach, Trish Blackwell gets to work with many women who struggle with their confidence. She helps them see that their value lies in who they are and not what they do. She advises them to be brave and avoid trying to be perfect. Trish also believes in the power of embracing failure, disappointments, and being vulnerable. After discovering a need for some TLC, Campbell was inspired to contribute to his community through projects like "Let's Paint the Town" that inspired renovation and painting of more than 30 historic buildings downtown. He then funded, designed and oversaw construction of Campbell Plaza in a neglected vacant lot and joined with the Rotary Club to raise funds to develop the city's Unity Park. Campbell then turned his visionary eye to the historic Meadows Hotel, a 100-room hotel built in 1901 in Fulton to serve the guests of the Illinois Central Railroad. After acquiring what was left of the property, he oversaw a complete reconstruction project, returning The Meadows Hotel back to its former glory. Today, the historic boutique hotel features 20 luxurious rooms, and a popular full-service bar and restaurant. In this episode, Campbell shares the story of the project and more about the challenges and rewards of seeing a need in a rural community and working with the community to meet it. Handling Underperformers: the Counterintuitive Reason Why Bottom Performers are Performing Poorly with Richard Lindner and Jeff Mask

Ready to Lead

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 25, 2021 26:07

When we focus the bulk of our time on underperformers and fixing problems, we bring the rest of the team down.   Every time you fix something, does something else break? Are you constantly drained from plugging leaks and putting out fires? Does it feel like your workweek is just a giant real-life game of Whack-a-Mole?   If so, chances are, you've probably fallen into the trap of always focusing on the underperformer. We're hardwired as humans—and especially as leaders—to fix what's breaking. We bounce from one broken thing to the next. Some of us hang our identity on that. But what happens is that we unintentionally neglect and overlook what's going well. And our reward for fixing one problem is being handed the next.   In this episode, co-hosts Richard Lindner and Jeff Mask talk about our tendency to focus on underperformers and how it's not a sustainable way to run a business. There's a much better way to get things done.   The Business Law of Thirds Jeff walks us through a framework where you envision a rectangle divided into thirds. It's The Law of Thirds, but the business one, not the photography one. In the top third are your high performers. When you're growing something, leading through change, they're lifting everyone around them, championing the cause, on board, a joy to lead.    At the very opposite end of the rectangle, the bottom third, are the people who are frustrated and super cynical. They're not just questioning the strategy (that can actually be helpful), but they're always pessimistic, sowing seeds of doubt, a lot of toxicity.    In the middle third are the fence-sitters, not quite sure where they stand. They could really go either way—and they do.   So, where do we as leaders focus? Our tendency is to pay attention to the bottom third and invest time there, because they need TLC. They're loud, squeaky, and we're concerned they're going to affect everyone else.    But, when we focus on the bottom third, two things happen. The fence-sitters realize where the attention is, and they start gravitating to the bottom. They do it subconsciously. We just go where the attention is, as human beings. Focusing on the bottom means you get more people doing the grumbling.   The second thing that happens is you alienate the top performers. Some of them will leave, frustrated with the situation. They get sick and tired of the hand-holding of all the mediocre people. They don't thrive in that environment.    Be Careful Not to Perpetuate the Cycle When we focus on the underperformers, we're modeling how to get attention: negativity. Negative actions get positive rewards. We've got to rewire that.    When you're so focused on trying to get an underperformer to the bare minimum, what's happening to the ignored high performer? You might be thinking about High Performer Jane, “If everyone could just be like Jane...” Well, are you talking to Jane, investing in her, challenging her? Or are you putting her on a pedestal, comparing people to her, but then not focusing on her, giving her any attention, helping her go from good to great to greater?   Jim Collins, in his incredible book, Good to Great, says, “People are not your most important assets; the right people are.” Are you focusing on the right people, or do you need to flip the rectangle? Richard and Jeff would challenge you to focus just 25% of your time on the underperformers and 75% on the people who want to go from good to great.    When you focus positive attention on the high performers, people who are excited, then the people in the middle will gravitate to the attention, the excitement, the energy. Some of the bottom third will jump out of the boat and leave. Fine. Leading them is one of the hardest things you have to do. We don't want to lose the mediocre people, but they suck everyone's energy.   High performers are 400% more productive than average performers. Think of what else could be done, how much more profitable, focused, energetic you can be if you focused on them. Leading excited overperformers makes Sunday night fun and energizing. You're actually excited for Monday morning. Where our focus goes, our energy flows. Where energy flows is where we grow.   Recognize, Replace, and Recite Be honest with yourself. Sometimes we focus on underperformers because we secretly enjoy having these problems to solve. It makes us feel like we're needed, valuable. When you find yourself saying “I'm just so busy,” what we're doing is feeding our ego that we're important. We're tired and saying we don't want to be busy, but we're feeding it. We do want to be busy, and a martyr vibe happens. Shift that mindset. Instead of a little bit of glory and brownie points for being a fixer, flip it. You don't need to put out fires to be valuable. Change the narrative.   Recognize, Replace, and Recite are the 3 Rs of the mindset framework.Recognize when things are off. Replace it with something more powerful. Recite who we are. I lead high performing people. Focus on the overperformers and watch everyone else rise, get better, or bail out. Or: I take things that are working and scale them. When problems come up, you can still solve them. You just don't look for them every waking moment.    Leadership is an awesome journey because we're truly affecting lives for the better, if we so choose.    Richard and Jeff want to hear from YOU. Bryan shares his terrible travels to and from Memphis by asking the question: What is appropriate airplane behavior? Who owns the arm rest? Should you take off shoes during long distance flights? Why do you get 4 carry bags and I get 1? Who are these people that cut the line at every gate? What time should I show for my flight? What do you wear on a plane? Should you talk to your seat-mate? And most importantly...who controls the shade? TCB hopes to bring common sense and civility back to the not-so-friendly skies! LINKS:Want a TCB limited edition collectible sticker? In 2014, 90 Day Fiancé season 2 introduced Chelsea, a 25-year-old from Galesburg, Illinois, and 28 year old Yamir from Nicaragua. Their romance was like one from a teen movie. Chelsea met popstar Yamir in Nicaragua when she attended a concert featuring his boy band Myla Vox while serving in the Peace Corps. Kate tracked down Yamir to find out how the show found the couple, and how it changed his life. Megan Segura from Bravo Daily Dish podcast answers a speed round of questions about Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Potomac, and the Beverly Hills reunion.
