When we talk about insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, the conversation almost always revolves around sugar, carbs, fat, or body weight. But there's one factor that rarely gets enough attention: muscle mass. Skeletal muscle isn't just for strength or aesthetics. It's the single largest site of glucose disposal in the body, responsible for up to 80% of how we use sugar after a meal. Which means that having low muscle mass actually increases insulin resistance, even if your weight or BMI looks “normal.” On the flipside, building muscle is one of the most effective ways to counteract a genetic predisposition to diabetes. The surprising problem is that most people are unaware of how to do it. We've been taught to obsess over cardio, calorie counting, or cutting carbs, but rarely taught how resistance training, protein intake, and lifestyle choices protect our metabolism through muscle. Why is muscle mass a game-changer for insulin resistance? How do we make sure we're optimizing our nutrition and exercise? In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Maguy Chiha, a triple board–certified endocrinologist in internal medicine, endocrinology & metabolism, and obesity medicine. Together, we explore the hidden role of muscle mass in insulin resistance, why so many patients are overlooked until it's too late, and practical steps to increase muscle and protect your metabolic health. Things You'll Learn In This Episode -Muscle is your glucose engine Skeletal muscle, not the liver, is the real powerhouse of glucose control. If 75–80% of sugar disposal happens here, what happens when muscle shrinks with age or fills with fat? -The hidden risk of “skinny fat” Why a normal BMI doesn't protect you. How visceral fat and low lean mass in certain populations (like South Asians) make diabetes risk skyrocket—even at “healthy” weights. -Protein timing & resistance training When it comes to exercise, cardio alone won't cut it. How does lifting weights and eating protein daily make your body burn fat without starving? Guest Bio Dr. Chiha is a triple board-certified physician in internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism, and obesity medicine. She completed her undergrad and graduate medical education at the American University of Beirut before moving to the United States to complete her residency in Michigan. And later she did her endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism fellowship at Loyola College University in Illinois. She worked for several years at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, where she headed the division of endocrinology and was the physician champion of the Diabetes Center for Excellence, as well as the Diabetes Service Line Director. In her current practice, Dr. Chiha practices general endocrinology, but has a focus and interest in diabetes management, obesity management, as well as women's health and menopause. This week, Three Guys in a Flick suit up to tackle The Other Guys — Adam McKay's buddy-cop spoof where Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg stumble, shout, and tuna-vs-lion their way through chaos. We break down the over-the-top action beats, the unforgettable cameos (yes, Samuel L. Jackson and The Rock), and the quotable absurdity that made this film an instant cult comedy. From the lion-tuna showdown to TLC references and desk-popping disasters, the guys riff on performances, improv gold, and how the movie manages to parody action clichés while delivering big laughs. Expect trivia, banter, and a debate on whether The Other Guys really is the most quotable cop comedy of its time. Grab your Prius and your wooden gun—because we're ALL In on The Other Guys.

Forget the ice pack. There's a better way to heal. Dr. Andrew Fix challenges the old RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) protocol and shows how it can actually slow recovery instead of helping it. Ice and anti-inflammatories may ease pain in the moment, but they also keep the body from doing the work it's built to do. In this episode, Dr. Fix lays out PEACE (Protection, Elevation, Avoiding anti-inflammatories, Compression, Education) and LOVE (Load, Optimism, Vascularization, and Exercise), a framework that focuses on protecting the injured area, restoring blood flow, loading the body in safe ways, and leaning into an optimistic mindset. He explains how injuries can be turning points, moments to learn more about your body and build resilience for the future. Have you ever thought about whether your recovery habits are helping you heal faster or keeping you stuck? Dr. Fix will make you rethink the way you care for yourself when injury strikes. Quotes “If we take those things, if we ice, if we take anti-inflammatory medications, NSAIDs, just know that you are basically trading one thing for another. You're trading some symptom relief, pain relief, and reduction in swelling for quicker healing, right? The term that I like to use a lot is you are effectively kicking the can down the road in terms of letting that injured area heal.” (07:13 | Dr. Andrew Fix) “We need to be positive. We need to think about what we can do, not what we can't do. We need to be visualizing and imagining what our recovery is going to look like, what our performance is going to look like when we return from this injury, when we rehab, when we get back to doing things.” (18:02 | Dr. Andrew Fix) “Ditch the rice protocol. Instead, if you deal with an injury, we're gonna do peace and love. We're gonna give it peace and give it love. Protection, elevation, avoiding anti-inflammatories, compression, education, load optimism, vascularization, and exercise. It's as simple as that.” (24:02 | Dr. Andrew Fix) “If you are dealing with an injury, especially if you're not sure what you're dealing with, make sure you get it checked out by somebody so that they can point you in the right direction.” (24:33 | Dr. Andrew Fix) “Sometimes our body is going to need a little bit of TLC because of an injury or a breakdown that occurred. But if we can think about what's the learning moment here in this injury, you, a lot of times, can wind up better after the fact than you ever were before.” (25:47 | Dr. Andrew Fix) Links https://www.instagram.com/reel/DHTcTHQp1OC/?hl=en https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/54/2/72 SideKick Tool Movemate: Award-Winning Active Standing Board 15% off Promo Code: DRA15 RAD Roller Revogreen HYDRAGUN Athletic Brewing 20% off: ANDREWF20 Connect with Physio Room: Website Instagram Facebook Andrew's Personal Instagram Andrew's Personal Facebook Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

Rafe Foreman interviews Darryl Exum about a brutal, nine-month criminal trial in Riverside—a four-defendant gang double-murder case involving identical twins—that tested every trial skill in the book. Darryl recounts two trials (after a mistrial tied to a covert informant dispute), how TLC methods—rigorous voir dire, careful cross-examination, storytelling and putting jurors in the room—helped peel back unreliable police testimony and shaky forensic claims. He also talks honestly about the personal toll of long trials, the importance of “letting the village in” (trusted colleagues and community support), using AI as a drafting tool, and prioritizing health. The jury ultimately refused to convict on the principal counts, showing how relentless preparation, human connection, and ethical advocacy can prevail.

Drawing upon the witch trials in Salem, Boston, and elsewhere in New England, renowned historian Emerson "Tad" Baker, together with guest moderators Sarah Jack and Josh Hutchinson, will explore the nature of witch hunts. Join a remarkable three-way conversation by some of the most knowledgeable and insightful observers of witch hunts, about the questions that persist more than 350 years after the 20 Salem executions. In this first of two eye-opening discussions, The Other explores why witch hunts happen and how they progress. Why are certain people accused? What characteristics did people like Tituba, Bridget Bishop, and Goody Glover have that made them targets rather than their neighbors? What set them off as "others"? How and why did Tituba's accusation lead to more accusations, while Glover's did not? What role did misinformation and rumor play in witch hunts? And, most puzzlingly, what motivated the accusers?Part 2: Resistance, on September 22, 7:00-8:30pm, will explore how people fought against accusations, at risk to themselves, and worked to end the witch hunts. How did family, friends and neighbors help defend the accused? What role did spiritual and political leaders play? How did families and communities heal from witch hunts, and prevent them from happening again? Above all, what gave these people, in the midst of increasing danger, the courage to resist?ABOUT THE SPEAKERSEmerson "Tad" Baker is a professor of history at Salem State University and has previously served as vice provost and dean. He is the award-winning author or co-author of six books on the history and archaeology of early New England, including A Storm of Witchcraft: The Salem Trials and the American Experience. His current book project explores the aftermath of the Salem witch trials. Baker has served as consultant and on-camera expert for documentaries and TV shows for networks ranging from PBS and the BBC to Smithsonian and TLC.Josh Hutchinson is a podcaster, writer, and advocate. As a descendant of people involved in New England witch trials, co-founder of End Witch Hunts, and creator of the podcasts The Thing About Witch Hunts and The Thing About Salem, Josh blends historical knowledge and modern activism in his work. Josh continues to shed light on historical injustices while advocating for the elimination of modern harmful practices related to accusations of witchcraft and ritual attacks.Sarah Jack, a descendant of colonial-era witch trial victims, is the founding executive director of the nonprofit End Witch Hunts. Based in Colorado, Sarah also hosts the podcasts The Thing About Witch Hunts and The Thing About Salem. She specializes in consulting and teaching about witch hunts, past and present, leveraging her extensive networks to bring these conversations to broader communities and platforms. Her work has been highlighted globally and featured in outlets including the New York Times and NPR.End Witch Hunts brings light to the true nature of witch trials and witch hunts through public education, advocacy, memorialization, and exoneration.

For most modern believers, miracles feel like stories locked in the pages of scripture. Science explains almost everything today, and medicine is the first place we turn when sickness strikes. What if some healings can't be explained by scans, surgeries, or prescriptions? What if, in an age of data and diagnostics, God is still doing what only He can do, restoring, reversing, and renewing in ways science cannot? That's exactly what this episode of Time to Transform explores. From asthma disappearing overnight, to infertility reversed against all medical odds, to a stroke reversed after an hour of unconsciousness, these aren't vague testimonies. These are healings measured, documented, and confirmed, living reminders that God's power is not confined to ancient times. My guests are women who straddle both worlds: faith and medicine. Susan, a church leader who once lived with chronic asthma and infertility, shares multiple decades-long healings that even doctors admitted defied explanation. Janet is a nurse who doubted miracles after watching her brother live with cerebral palsy. She tells the story of her own medically verified healing when a fibroid disappeared, proof that God's hand still moves, even when doubt clouds belief. In this episode, we explore what happens when faith collides with science, and what it means to trust a God who is still able to do the impossible. Things You'll Learn In This Episode -Asthma gone overnight without prayerful expectation Could a casual, half-hearted prayer really end decades of hospital visits, inhalers, and wheezing attacks instantly? -Infertility reversed with “zero chance” reports What happens when a couple told they had no viable sperm count ends up conceiving not once, but twice? -When prayer outruns the “golden hour” of stroke treatment How does a man collapse with textbook stroke symptoms, miss the critical 60-minute window for treatment, and still walk away without a trace of damage? -Healing in the face of hereditary disease Why did a nurse, genetically predisposed to gynecological illness, see her fibroid vanish on scans without surgery or medication? -From doubt to undeniableHow did years of watching her brother live with cerebral palsy convince Janet that healing wasn't real? What finally shattered her unbelief when she experienced a miracle herself? Guest Bio Susan Toor is a committed church leader whose life was deeply shaped by the burden of chronic asthma and persistent infertility. Despite years of medical care, neither condition abated, until a seemingly casual prayer brought both breathing and conception. Today, Susan serves as a bridge between spirituality and science, offering medically documented stories of sustained healing that defy medical explanation and invite a reconsideration of what faith and divine intervention can look like in our modern world. Janet Joseph Selvanathan is a Malaysian Wound and Stoma Care Nurse with over 15 years of experience in critical care, wound management, and patient education. She began her career as an ICU nurse in Malaysia before moving to Abu Dhabi in 2015, where she has since served at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Over the past decade, she has become a trusted specialist in advanced wound therapies, stoma care, and pressure injury prevention, while leading hospital-wide audits and quality improvement initiatives. Beyond her professional achievements, Janet is a born-again Christian whose faith drives her passion for spirit-led healthcare transformation. Actively serving in her local church as part of the welcome team, she brings warmth, encouragement, and compassion both inside and outside the hospital. She believes in combining clinical excellence with dignity and hope-bringing healing that touches both body and soul.
