Kia ora e te whānau. Things we learned on this week's episode. We suck collectively at Maths, there is such a thing called a Wet Globe Bulb Temperature (WHAT?!?!?), We are all pro-Kipchoge winning Western States. Despite their relative masses, Andrew and Matt cope conversely in the heat (at least psychologically) and are aligned in our distaste of the UTMB kilometre effort industrial complex. The gang is back together for the literal and figurative heat of the Grapian's Peak Trail and Arrowtown Ultra. Car prices are heating up, but your strategy can stay cool. We sat down with Patrick Olsen of Carfax to cut through the noise and map a smarter path to your next vehicle—whether you're shopping new to beat tariff-driven pressure or hunting for a reliable used car with real value. We dig into timing the market, reading shifting inventory, and setting practical guardrails that protect your budget without giving up tech, safety, or comfort. If you're weighing used options, we break down why sedans are the overlooked bargains: late-model Civics, Accords, Camrys, and Malibus that deliver strong mpg and long-haul reliability. We talk about lease-return realities, the must-know red flags on history reports, and the truth about extended warranties versus building your own repair fund. For parents and grads, we call out the safety features that matter most—blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking—and why they deliver day-to-day dividends.Curious about used EVs? We get real on costs, home charging, and how to think about range so an affordable 150–200 mile car can be your low-cost daily driver. We compare brand trends—Tesla, Hyundai, Kia, Ford—and what's shifting in resale. Plus, we look at rental-fleet buys, separating maintenance positives from driver-abuse concerns so you can make a clear-eyed choice. To round it out, we fire up a detailed review of the 2024 Ford Mustang GT: design updates, tech quirks, driving feel, performance, and pricing that explains why the GT remains a crowd favorite.Want to browse smarter? We point to Carfax research tools and free reports on listings so you can verify history, surface hidden risks, and focus on the best candidates for your needs. If you're ready to upgrade your ride with confidence, tune in, take notes, and tell us what you're shopping for next. Kia ora,Welcome to Friday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news that we have unexpectedly weak data from China and unexpectedly strong data from Australia. But first in the US, it is back to work for their Federal government after the record 43 day shutdown impasse ends - at least until January 30 when the current deal needs renewal again. Missed official data releases there may in fact be skipped, so there may not be a catch-up until the next scheduled releases.Meanwhile, American companies continue with their big job cuts.Across the Pacific in China, their new yuan loan levels for October came in unexpectedly weak. They dropped sharply to just ¥220 bln, down from ¥1.3 tln in September and ¥500 bln in October last year. Markets had expected ¥500 bln, so the actual data underscores the continued weakness in credit demand. To put it in perspective, apart from July's unusual dip, this October result is their weakest of any month in at least ten years. After a disappointing retreat in August, EU industrial production bounced back far less in September than expected. It is now only +1.2% higher (real) than a year ago, less than the expected +2.1% rise most analysts had anticipated. They will be disappointed, but for them at least it is still growing in real terms. In Australia, they delivered another very strong set of employment data with jobs expanding by +42,200 and full time jobs expanding by +55,300. Their jobless rate fell more than expected to 4.2% (NZ is 5.3%.) This, along with inflation above target, will have the RBA thinking hard about their December 9 cash rate target which is currently 3.6%. Aussie bond yields spiked higher on the news, taking the NZGB yields up with them.Australian consumer inflation expectations slipped slightly to 4.5% in November from 4.8% in October, the lowest reading since August. Actual CPI inflation in September came in at 3.5%.Also in Australia, the opposition Liberal Party has dumped its commitment to net zero policies, a capitulation that will likely isolate it further from the electorate. It will now really struggle to hold its big city electorates from spirited challenges by teal candidates. In an odd 'compromise' they committed to staying in the Paris Agreement, but without Net Zero that is just greenwashing which will fool no-one. We are probably witnessing the demise of a political party that once was their 'natural' governing political force. Australia will now need a proper liberal opposition to Labor, maybe one born out of the teals.Just as the Aussie Liberals were making that Trumpish decision, the IEA released its 2025 World Energy Outlook. It concluded that technology has moved so far so fast that "options to reduce emissions substantially are well understood and, in many cases, cost effective." From here, staying with fossil fuels will come with cost penalties.Globally, freight rates for containerised cargoes dipped -5% this past week mainly on China-US rates, although China-EU rates rose marginally. Overall that makes them -46% lower than year-ago levels. Bulk freight rates are little-changed this week, to be +25% higher than year-ago levels. The UST 10yr yield is now at 4.10%, up +4 bps from yesterday at this time. The price of gold will start today at US$4198/oz, up another +US$8 from this time yesterday. It is rising again but it is still below its record US$4350 on October 21, 2025. Silver is moving up too, now at US$53/oz but again still lower than its its recent peak of US$54.50 on October 17, 2025American oil prices have recovered +50 USc from yesterday to be just on US$59/bbl, with the international Brent price now over US$63/bbl.The Kiwi dollar is now at just on 56.7 USc, and up +10 bps from yesterday. Against the Aussie we have held at 86.6 AUc. Against the euro we are down -10 bps at 48.7 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today at just under 61.2 and little-changed from yesterday. The bitcoin price starts today at US$101,032 and down another -0.6% from yesterday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has been modest at just on +/- 1.5%.You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. I'm David Chaston. When Value Meets Velvet: Rethinking Family SUV Hybrids

Looking for a family SUV that doesn't force you to choose between comfort, efficiency, and price? We dive into the 2025 Kia Sorento Hybrid SX Prestige and unpack how this three-row “small” SUV manages a big presence, refined ride, and impressive mpg without blowing the budget. From first impressions to real-world numbers, we bring a driver's-eye view of what stands out and where it lands among the best hybrids on sale today. We start with design: a crisp Kia grille, distinctive orange DRLs, quad vertical tail lights, and straight-line sculpting that reads clean and upscale. Inside, the tone shifts to near-luxury with quilted seat accents, a sculpted dash, and an available 12.3-inch screen that keeps driving info and entertainment simple and sharp. The dial shifter frees up space on the console, and the three-row, six-seat layout offers flexibility—small cargo hold with the third row up, generous room when it's folded. Then we get into the hardware. The hybrid pairing of a 1.6-liter turbo and electric assistance delivers 227 hp and 258 lb-ft through a six-speed automatic, skipping the drone of a CVT for a more traditional feel. All-wheel drive confidence, a 1,654-pound tow rating for weekend toys, and real-world efficiency of 32.8 mpg over 429 miles underline its breadth. On the road, ride quality is a standout: smooth, quiet, and composed, the sort of tuning that keeps everyone relaxed over long stretches. Finally, we tackle value and rivals. With a tested price of $49,130 and a hybrid starting point at $38,690, the Sorento sits below today's average new-car price while looking and riding like more. We stack it against the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, and Honda CR-V Hybrid to show where the Sorento's extra row and upscale feel pay off. If you need space for six, crave low fuel bills, and appreciate a cabin that feels a class above, this is one to drive.Enjoyed the breakdown? Kia ora,Welcome to Thursday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news that with the Indian subcontinent on the edge of armed conflict and tit-for-tat terrorist moves and retaliation, the world's economy is ignoring these new risks.First up today, the US House of Representatives is set to vote to end their latest and record-long shutdown, and by the time you read this, have probably approved the compromise. This has seen Wall Street react with a split personality. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has risen to a new record high. But the broader S&P500 is becalmed, and the Nasdaq is lower. The bond market is more risk-averse. The USD is weakening. Just guessing here, but it seems markets think the shutdown pain was a wasted exercise and the result will be negative for the giant US economy. Rebooting their economy won't be easy.Meanwhile, US mortgage applications were little-changed last week, with the refinance market dipping slightly and the smaller new purchase market rising, actually with a notable increase. This came despite mortgage rates rising in the week. And more Americans than ever are falling behind on their car payments. According to Fitch Ratings, the share of subprime borrowers at least 60 days past due on their car loans rose to 6.65% in October, the highest in data tracking that started in 1994. And selling a used car to pay off the debt won't help. Record numbers of people doing that still owe loan balances after these sales.A well-supported US Treasury 10yr bond auction today brought a median yield of 4.02%, down from 4.06% at the prior equivalent event a month ago.In Canada, there were more positive economic signals. Building consents rose in September from August more than expected, led by multi-family projects in Alberta and Quebec and single-family homes in Ontario. But overall, they were still -8% lower than year-ago levels. In Japan, machine tool orders rose in October by more than +17% from the same month in 2024, driven by a +21% rise in export orders. They would have been happy about the +6% rise in orders from local manufacturers too.In China, residential real estate developers are under pressure to generate cash - again. Meeting year-end sales targets is crucial to hold on to their finance lifelines. So there are not only steep discounts on offer, but other creative incentives, such as "move in, buy later". One Guangzhou developer as a scheme where buyers front with a ¥100,000 deposit (NZ$25,000), move in for one month, and if they are not happy can move out with the only cost being one month's rent.In Malaysia, they have a buoyant retail sector with retail sales rising +7% in September from a year ago, accelerating from the +5% gain in the previous month. It was up +4.3% in volume terms and was their largest increase since January. In India, CPI inflation there has fallen to a record low +0.3% pa, down from +1.4% in September. Driving this is -5% deflation for food. In turn, that was caused by very good food growing conditions and heavy haervests. The RBI has an inflation target range of 2%-6% and this was the third consecutive month it has been below the bottom of that target. They will likely now move to cut their 5.5% policy rate soon, maybe at their next meeting on December 5, 2025.In Australia, the value of new owner-occupier home loan commitments rose +9.8% in September from a year ago. Investment lending for housing soared +18.7% on the same basis to a record high. The housing surge is in full flight of unbridled enthusiasm. The UST 10yr yield is now at 4.06%, down -1 bp from yesterday at this time. The price of gold will start today at US$4190/oz, up another +US$77 from this time yesterday.American oil prices have dropped hard by -US$2.50 higher from yesterday to just on US$58.50/bbl, with the international Brent price just over US$62.50/bbl.The Kiwi dollar is now at just on 56.6 USc, and little-changed from yesterday. Against the Aussie we have dipped -10 bps to 86.6 AUc. Against the euro we are unchanged at 48.8 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today at just under 61.2 and up +10 bps from yesterday. The bitcoin price starts today at US$101,589 and down another -1.9% from yesterday. //The Wire//2300Z November 10, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: TRIBAL TENSIONS INCREASE IN MINNEAPOLIS AFTER ELECTION LOSS. GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN ENDS AFTER FAA CLOSES AIRSPACE TO PRIVATE JETS. TERROR ATTACK IN INDIA KILLS 10X IN DELHI.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Caribbean: This morning the Pentagon announced two more kinetic strikes on narco-vessels in the eastern Pacific Ocean. 6x people were KIA as a result of the strike.India: This morning at least one (possibly more) Vehicle-Borne IED(s) were detonated at the Red Fort monument in Delhi. 8-10x people were killed during the attack, and dozens more wounded. Reports initially stated that one VBIED was the primary attack vector, however throughout the day reports emerged that up to 3x separate VBIEDs might have been involved. However, it is not clear as to if these other vehicles exploded because of their proximity to the original blast seat, or if they were separate VBIEDs altogether. The American Embassy in Delhi has issued a security notice, warning of additional attacks. Indian authorities have also observably increased security at other sites around the country, and 3x people have been arrested in conjunction with the attack.Analyst Comment: The culprit of the attack is not yet known. The choice of target, Red Fort (an old fortification from the Mughal Empire) doesn't really provide any indication either, since there's nothing really that political about the site. Some locals have claimed that the entire affair was not a terror attack, but an industrial accident. Considering the social media situation at present, it's not possible to determine the truth of the matter. However, the US State Department immediately issuing a travel notice indicates that this probably wasn't an accident.Right now it looks like this was a genuine terror attack, and this target was chosen simply due to this monument being a popular site among locals; there are always large crowds at this venue and it's very easy to get a vehicle in the middle of a crowd there. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, however lately Indian officials have been cracking down on ISIS-K militants which have been aided by Pakistan. In short, India backs the Taliban in Afghanistan, while Pakistan backs ISIS-K (which oppose the Taliban) in Afghanistan as well. As such, it's very likely that this attack is the latest development in the proxy war between the two nations, which has become increasingly more complicated over the years. India will be quick to blame Pakistan (which is probably not completely inaccurate), but at this point the entire proxy war between the two nations is so muddled that it's hard to discern who did what.-HomeFront-Minnesota: Following the loss of Omar Fateh in his race for Mayor of Minneapolis, tribal conflict has begun to simmer in the city. In a speech that was given in the Somali language only, Rep. Ilhan Omar expressed hostility towards the members of other Somali clans, which sided with Omar's opponent during the election. She openly called for casting out these other tribes from Minneapolis, and chastised those who translated her speeches into English...and thus revealing what she said.Utah: A large high-density housing complex under construction burned down yesterday. A catastrophic structure fire was reported at the facility under construction in Lehi, in the Traverse Mountain area. No cause of the fire has been released, but the facility burned completely to the ground.Washington D.C. - The FAA has announced more airspace restrictions due to the shortage of air traffic controllers. Private planes have been banned from 12x major airports around the country, in an effort to reduce the strain on control towers, most of which are running skeleton crews during off-peak hours. Shortly after the announcement of this policy was posted by the National Business

Kia ora,Welcome to Wednesday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news economic optimism seems to be on the rise in many places, but not in the world's largest economy.First in the US, not only is the federal government shut down still, but it is Veterans Day, a Federal holiday, although many firms still operate including the NYSE. But the Wall Street bond market is formally closed. The US Senate passed a short-term compromise to end the shutdown impasse, and the lower House is now getting ready to consider the measure and they are likely to go along with it when they vote.Meanwhile the new weekly ADP Employment report recorded a decrease in private payrolls last week, and unexpected softness. Even though this is very new weekly data, it is a key way the US labour market is being monitored now given the temporarily-closed official data agency (and doubts about its partisan leadership). And prospects for the upcoming holiday hiring season seem to have turned gloomy. And it may not only be hiring that will be restrained; prospects for US Black Friday and Thanksgiving holiday retail sales aren't looking too bright as tariff-taxes weigh on the 'bargains'.The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index fell marginally in October but to a level that is the lowest in six months. These firms say sales increases are harder to find. But across the Pacific in Japan, the October Economy Watchers Survey delivered an upbeat result that was better than expected, not only about current conditions but also the outlook six months ahead. In China, sales data for October shows their car sales rising yet again, up from the high September level to be +8.8% above year-ago levels at 3.3 mln vehicles. NEV sales were again the strongest sector. October sales start the push to the seasonally peak month in December and that will almost certainly come in at a new record month, likely somewhere near 3.8 mln units. That would mean 2025 sales will exceed 35 mln units, almost double that of the US.In Germany, the latest ZEW survey continues the "cautiously optimistic" tone they have had for six month now.In Australia, the Westpac consumer confidence survey was suddenly quite positive, the first positive result since early 2022 and a seven year high. It reported that Christmas spending plans will be less restrained than last year. Consumers think the domestic economy is improving while they think trade risks are subsiding. One group however reported less confidence - those in their 'mortgage belt. They see interest rate risks along with job security risks.Meanwhile, there wasn't the same uplift in business confidence however. The NAB business sentiment survey reported little-change in October, just marginally lower than in September. The UST 10yr yield is now at 4.07%, down -4 bps from yesterday at this time after the ADP payroll news. The price of gold will start today at US$4113/oz, up +US$22 from this time yesterday.American oil prices are +US$1.50 higher from yesterday at just on US$61/bbl, with the international Brent price at US$65/bbl.The Kiwi dollar is now at just under 56.6 USc, and up almost +30 bps from yesterday. Against the Aussie we are also +30 bps firmer at 86.7 AUc. Against the euro we are unchanged at 48.8 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today at just on 61.1 and up +20 bps from yesterday. The bitcoin price starts today at US$103,599 and down -1.5% from yesterday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has been modest at just on +/- 1.9%.You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. I'm David Chaston. Kia ora,Welcome to Tuesday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news the US is moving to end its government shutdown.First, Wall Street has started its week positively with the S&P 500 rising, the Nasdaq rising even more, and the Dow Jones gaining over 240 points as optimism grew that the US Federal government shutdown could soon end. In a procedural vote yesterday, the Senate advanced the first stage of a deal to reopen the government, securing the minimum 60 votes required. Eight Democratic senators broke with party leadership, dropping their key demand for a guaranteed extension of healthcare subsidies. The proposal must still be debated and passed by the Senate and approved by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, where its passage remains quite uncertain. There was a three year US Treasury bond auction earlier today and that delivered a median yield of 3.54%, essentially unchanged from the 3.53% at the prior equivalent event a month ago.In Canada, their market participants survey showed that trade tensions with the US are the key issue driving financial market. Despite that, those surveyed reckoned 2025 will deliver a +1% economic expansion this year and more next year.In Indonesia, there was a good bounce back in consumer sentiment in October after five months of angst. The affordability crisis that played out on some streets seems to have faded somewhat. The UST 10yr yield is now at 4.11%, up +2 bps from yesterday at this time. The price of gold will start today at US$4092/oz, up +US$92 from this time yesterday and a +2.3% gain on bets the Fed will cut its rates after weak US data. Silver surged +3% to US$50/oz, its highest level since October 20. Precious metals pricing indicates some market participants aren't impressed by the US shutdown progress.American oil prices are down -50 USc from yesterday at just on US$59.50/bbl, with the international Brent price unchanged at US$63.50/bbl. Fundamentally low expected demand is keeping this price low. It is holding at 4 year lows and at levels first seen in 2017.The Kiwi dollar is now at just on 56.3 USc, and unchanged from yesterday. Against the Aussie we are -10 bps lower at 86.4 AUc and a new 12 year low. Against the euro we are up +10 bps at 48.8 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today at just under 60.9 and up +10 bps from yesterday. The bitcoin price starts today at US$105,120 and up +1.4% from yesterday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has been modest at just on +/- 1.5%.You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. I'm David Chaston. And Walmart leans into nostalgia with a print catalog push designed to elevate its home game.Show Notes with links:General Motors made sweeping changes last week, laying off workers and restructuring leadership as it adjusted to shifting market signals. What began as a response to softening EV demand quickly expanded into a broader corporate shakeup.GM eliminated 1,750 jobs, including 1,200 from Factory Zero in Detroit and hundreds more at paused battery plants in Ohio and Tennessee. The company cited weaker EV sales and regulatory uncertainty as reasons for scaling back production.Senior VP of Software David Richardson abruptly exited following an internal reorg just days after presenting at GM's tech event. His responsibilities were shifted under product leadership led by Tesla/Aurora alum Sterling Anderson.CEO Mary Barra assumed oversight of cybersecurity and IT, signaling a more hands-on approach to GM's tech transformation.Kia has officially delayed the U.S. release of its compact EV4 sedan, which was initially slated to arrive in early 2026.The EV4, revealed at the New York Auto Show, was expected to start under $40K with up to 330 miles of range.Kia confirmed the delay, citing “changing market conditions for EVs” as primary cause. The expiration of the $7,500 EV tax credit and new import tariffs have reshaped the economics of launching foreign-built EVs in the U.S.The EV4 was to be manufactured in South Korea and imported to the U.S.; that plan is now on hold indefinitely.Kia's EV lineup already includes the EV6, EV9, and Niro EVIn an unexpected move, Walmart has revived the old-school print catalog to boost its home goods visibility. The retailer's latest campaign mixes nostalgia with strategy, aiming to reintroduce shoppers to a broader, more style-forward product lineup.Walmart released a full-scale home catalog in August, targeting new, existing, and lapsed customers ahead of the holidays. The catalog showcases furniture, decor, and appliances with QR codes linking to Walmart's online store.SVP Creighton Kiper described the catalog as a static creative tool to reposition Walmart as a destination for affordable, high-style home goods.Despite rapid execution, early impressions and engagement exceeded expectations — though no follow-up editions have been confirmed.“Most retailers recognize… you have to have a marketing mix across online and offline channels to really reach the consumer,” said Polly Wong, President of Belardi Wong.0:00 Intro with Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier1:03 Upcoming Edge Webinar Tomorrow!1:39 GM Shakes Up ExeJoin Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/

WHITE HOUSE PLANS TO INCREASE NUCLEAR TESTING FOLLOWING RUSSIA'S INTENSIFICATION OF SIMILAR EFFORTS.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Middle East: Overnight Israeli targeting in Lebanon continued with new strikes in the southern regions of the country. This comes after a few days of airstrikes and rising tensions in Lebanon. Analyst Comment: Details are sketchy on all sides, however a series of events have transpired over the past few days that have deteriorated relations. On Sunday, French troops stationed in Lebanon as part of the UN observation mission shot down an Israeli drone that was harassing their position. In response to that, a different drone approached the French position and dropped a grenade near them. An Israeli tank also fired a round that landed near the French observation post, continuing a long-standing tradition in the region (The IDF will frequently shoot near an international power that they don't like, they have hit a few observation posts with tank rounds before). In addition to this, IDF bombings adjacent to UN locations in Lebanon have continued to send the message, but mostly have just increased tensions in Lebanon once again and served as a reminder that the relationship between Israel and France is not particularly great.Tanzania: A state of civil unrest is underway nationwide following the deterioration of protests over the past few days, most of which have been prompted by recent election woes. The incumbent President excluded his main political rivals from the ballot, which prompted protests and demonstrations. These efforts have now become more widespread, and around a dozen fatalities have been reported so far during the riots.Caribbean: Yesterday evening the Pentagon announced another strike in the region, which resulted in the sinking of one more narco-vessel in the Pacific. 4x KIA were reported as a result of the strike.-HomeFront-Washington D.C. - Much rhetoric has abounded following various developments in the field of nuclear weapons. Earlier this week, Russia publicly announced the successful test of their latest nuclear-powered, nuclear-capable torpedo system, which has been a class of weapons in development since the 1980's. This latest version, dubbed the "Poseidon" in the open source world, is the latest version to be publicly and successfully tested. This in turn produced much fanfare surrounding these tests, and President Trump has stated that the US intends to increase nuclear testing over the next few months; because other nations have increased their efforts, so will the United States.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Regarding this recent rhetoric, there appears to be a "lost in translation" factor to what has been said by world leaders so far. Russia, for instance, has not stated that they intend to carry out testing of actual atomic weapons themselves. The last time Russia conducted a test of the detonation of a nuclear warhead was in 1990. China similarly conducted an underground nuclear test a little more recently, back in 1996. Russia in particular also has a slightly different "nuclear triad" than the United States. The US has bombers, submarine launched missiles, and static missile silos, all of which form the main methods for the deployment of nuclear weapons (thus the three legs of the "triad").Russia has a different, more diverse view of nuclear deterrence. They have bombers (same as us), submarine launched missiles (again, same as us), some static silos, a lot of mobile launchers to include some train-based options, and now entering more widespread operational use, nuclear torpedos to supplement their very substantial submarine force. While it may seem new to

As we head to the end of the year, with new 2026 models out or on the way, many buyers are looking for end of year deals.  We are doing a review of some of our reviews of popular models, just in case....A trail tamer or a family hauler—what truly fits your life right now? We put two 2025 standouts under the microscope: Chevrolet's Colorado ZR2, a factory-built off-road machine with real armor and beadlock-capable wheels, and Kia's Sorento SX Prestige with the X Pro package, a smart three-row SUV tuned for comfort, tech, and daily ease. Along the way, we unpack the details that matter beyond the brochure: how the ZR2's underbody camera and rocker protection change your confidence on rocky terrain, why the lifted suspension improves clearance but complicates step-in height, and how the TurboMax four-cylinder's 430 pound-feet moves the truck even when it sounds busy.Shift to the Sorento and the vibe changes. Dual 12.3-inch panoramic displays streamline navigation and driver info, while a digital rearview mirror widens your view in traffic. Heated and ventilated seats in both the front and second-row captain's chairs elevate comfort, and rear door sunshades beat tint when you don't want darkness at night. On the road, 17-inch wheels with taller sidewalls calm bumps and cut harshness in a way low-profile tires rarely can. With up to 4,500 pounds of towing in the 2.5-liter turbo AWD setup, the Sorento handles small trailers and weekend projects without drama, and city maneuverability stays stress-free.We also get practical about numbers. The Colorado's ZR2 pricing reflects serious hardware and a 7,700-pound tow rating when equipped, all in a package that still fits a standard garage. The Sorento's value story spans from accessible base models to a feature-rich SX Prestige around the high $40Ks as tested, competing in a crowded segment with a flexible third row that doesn't feel oversized. By the end, you'll know whether your miles call for rock gardens and skid plates or a calm commute with room for kids and cargo. If you enjoyed this breakdown, follow the show, share it with a friend who's shopping, and leave a quick review to help others find us. Which one would you park in your garage and why? //The Wire//2300Z October 28, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: LONDON STABBING KILLS ONE, WOUNDS TWO. FRENCH RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE TARGETED IN ARSON ATTACKS. USA STRIKES 4X NARCO-VESSELS IN PACIFIC OCEAN. MEDICAL RESEARCH MONKEYS ESCAPE AFTER VEHICLE CRASH IN MISSISSIPPI.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-United Kingdom: This morning a mass stabbing was reported in a residential area of Uxbridge, a suburb of London. One person was killed and two others wounded during the attack, with at least one of the wounded being a child. The assailant has been reported to be an Afghan refugee.Analyst Comment: While knife attacks are incredibly common in London, this one was particularly brutal because it was so random and caught on video. The victim was out walking his dog when an Afghan migrant attacked him and stabbed him to death on the street.France: Multiple arson attacks were carried out on the high speed rail lines between Marseille, Nice, and Montpellier. These arson attacks took the form of unknown malign actors setting fire to the signaling equipment (and really anything that looked important) at several points along the tracks. These incidents ended up causing many delays as trains had to be re-routed to other lines to continue service.South America: Overnight, the War Department announced several more airstrikes in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Three kinetic strikes were carried out on a total of four vessels (one strike targeted two boats that were tied together to exchange bundles of drugs at sea). 14x KIA were reported in total as a result of these strikes, along with 1x survivor.-HomeFront-Massachusetts: Yesterday the DoJ announced the indictment of an Indian national who conducted a stabbing attack onboard a Lufthansa flight on Saturday. The DoJ states that Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli was arrested in Boston after the Germany-bound flight was diverted due to his attack. The press release states that one of the victims awoke to find Usiripalli standing over them, before trying to stab the victim to death. In the ensuing fray, at least one other passenger was stabbed. The assailant also attempted to stab several crew members while attempting to be subdued. Both victims are juveniles, and it's not clear as to why Usiripalli attempted to murder them during the flight.Mississippi: This afternoon a vehicle accident involving a research truck filled with biological specimens was reported on I-59 in Jasper County. This accident resulted in the inadvertent release of several Rhesus monkeys that were being used for medical research at Tulane University. Initial reports from the Sheriff's Department stated that these monkeys are infected with a variety of diseases, including COVID and Hepatitis. However, this afternoon a representative from the University stated that the monkeys were not infectious.Analyst Comment: Yes, this is a real thing that happened. The escape of medical research monkeys happens surprisingly often, usually without much fanfare. In this case, the initial information that these monkeys were carrying the plot of about 4 different apocalyptic movies caused the story to gain a lot of traction immediately. Most of the monkeys have been re-captured and/or killed, but at least one remains on the loose. As such, locals have been advised to keep a lookout.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: The attacks on French rail infrastructure are a very common attack vector that is carried out daily throughout the nation. Arson attacks on electrical infrastructure (or in this case, signaling boxes beside the tracks) are carried out with such frequency that the local media doesn't usually report on them unless it causes major disruptions. Usually, the culprits are officially "unidentified", but in the overwhelming majority of cases the attacks are mostly ANTIFA or other types of anarchist groups whi

It started as one woman's unusual plan to control ticks on her family's old Wisconsin farm: drive hours in a tiny Kia, pick up ten ring-neck pheasants in burlap sacks, and release them on the land. But the road trip spiraled into a comedy of chaos—hissing birds, Jurassic-Park-like screeches, an unforgettable smell, and a surprise waiting in the back seat. Out of that disastrous adventure came an unexpected miracle: one tiny life that would change everything. What began as a spur-of-the-moment farm solution became a heartfelt bond with a bold little pheasant named Darby, who had no fear of anything—not even the family dog. But years later, after Darby's time on earth came to an end, the story took a turn no one could have predicted. When grief lingered and memories wouldn't fade, something impossible happened—an unmistakable sign that love doesn't always leave when the body does.
