Shoot us a Text.Episode #1187: GM trims its workforce and tech leadership as it reassesses priorities. Kia hits pause on its next U.S. EV launch amid regulatory roadblocks. And Walmart leans into nostalgia with a print catalog push designed to elevate its home game.Show Notes with links:General Motors made sweeping changes last week, laying off workers and restructuring leadership as it adjusted to shifting market signals. What began as a response to softening EV demand quickly expanded into a broader corporate shakeup.GM eliminated 1,750 jobs, including 1,200 from Factory Zero in Detroit and hundreds more at paused battery plants in Ohio and Tennessee. The company cited weaker EV sales and regulatory uncertainty as reasons for scaling back production.Senior VP of Software David Richardson abruptly exited following an internal reorg just days after presenting at GM's tech event. His responsibilities were shifted under product leadership led by Tesla/Aurora alum Sterling Anderson.CEO Mary Barra assumed oversight of cybersecurity and IT, signaling a more hands-on approach to GM's tech transformation.Kia has officially delayed the U.S. release of its compact EV4 sedan, which was initially slated to arrive in early 2026.The EV4, revealed at the New York Auto Show, was expected to start under $40K with up to 330 miles of range.Kia confirmed the delay, citing “changing market conditions for EVs” as primary cause. The expiration of the $7,500 EV tax credit and new import tariffs have reshaped the economics of launching foreign-built EVs in the U.S.The EV4 was to be manufactured in South Korea and imported to the U.S.; that plan is now on hold indefinitely.Kia's EV lineup already includes the EV6, EV9, and Niro EVIn an unexpected move, Walmart has revived the old-school print catalog to boost its home goods visibility. The retailer's latest campaign mixes nostalgia with strategy, aiming to reintroduce shoppers to a broader, more style-forward product lineup.Walmart released a full-scale home catalog in August, targeting new, existing, and lapsed customers ahead of the holidays. The catalog showcases furniture, decor, and appliances with QR codes linking to Walmart's online store.SVP Creighton Kiper described the catalog as a static creative tool to reposition Walmart as a destination for affordable, high-style home goods.Despite rapid execution, early impressions and engagement exceeded expectations — though no follow-up editions have been confirmed.“Most retailers recognize… you have to have a marketing mix across online and offline channels to really reach the consumer,” said Polly Wong, President of Belardi Wong.0:00 Intro with Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier1:03 Upcoming Edge Webinar Tomorrow!1:39 GM Shakes Up ExeJoin Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/
//The Wire//2300Z October 30, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: WAR CONTINUES IN LEBANON AS TENSIONS REMAIN HIGH. UNREST UNDERWAY IN TANZANIA. AIRSTRIKES CONTINUE IN CARIBBEAN. WHITE HOUSE PLANS TO INCREASE NUCLEAR TESTING FOLLOWING RUSSIA'S INTENSIFICATION OF SIMILAR EFFORTS.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Middle East: Overnight Israeli targeting in Lebanon continued with new strikes in the southern regions of the country. This comes after a few days of airstrikes and rising tensions in Lebanon. Analyst Comment: Details are sketchy on all sides, however a series of events have transpired over the past few days that have deteriorated relations. On Sunday, French troops stationed in Lebanon as part of the UN observation mission shot down an Israeli drone that was harassing their position. In response to that, a different drone approached the French position and dropped a grenade near them. An Israeli tank also fired a round that landed near the French observation post, continuing a long-standing tradition in the region (The IDF will frequently shoot near an international power that they don't like, they have hit a few observation posts with tank rounds before). In addition to this, IDF bombings adjacent to UN locations in Lebanon have continued to send the message, but mostly have just increased tensions in Lebanon once again and served as a reminder that the relationship between Israel and France is not particularly great.Tanzania: A state of civil unrest is underway nationwide following the deterioration of protests over the past few days, most of which have been prompted by recent election woes. The incumbent President excluded his main political rivals from the ballot, which prompted protests and demonstrations. These efforts have now become more widespread, and around a dozen fatalities have been reported so far during the riots.Caribbean: Yesterday evening the Pentagon announced another strike in the region, which resulted in the sinking of one more narco-vessel in the Pacific. 4x KIA were reported as a result of the strike.-HomeFront-Washington D.C. - Much rhetoric has abounded following various developments in the field of nuclear weapons. Earlier this week, Russia publicly announced the successful test of their latest nuclear-powered, nuclear-capable torpedo system, which has been a class of weapons in development since the 1980's. This latest version, dubbed the "Poseidon" in the open source world, is the latest version to be publicly and successfully tested. This in turn produced much fanfare surrounding these tests, and President Trump has stated that the US intends to increase nuclear testing over the next few months; because other nations have increased their efforts, so will the United States.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Regarding this recent rhetoric, there appears to be a "lost in translation" factor to what has been said by world leaders so far. Russia, for instance, has not stated that they intend to carry out testing of actual atomic weapons themselves. The last time Russia conducted a test of the detonation of a nuclear warhead was in 1990. China similarly conducted an underground nuclear test a little more recently, back in 1996. Russia in particular also has a slightly different "nuclear triad" than the United States. The US has bombers, submarine launched missiles, and static missile silos, all of which form the main methods for the deployment of nuclear weapons (thus the three legs of the "triad").Russia has a different, more diverse view of nuclear deterrence. They have bombers (same as us), submarine launched missiles (again, same as us), some static silos, a lot of mobile launchers to include some train-based options, and now entering more widespread operational use, nuclear torpedos to supplement their very substantial submarine force. While it may seem new to

Bringing back a bit of summer with the first recorded interview from this past @dimensionsfestival in Tisno, Croatia. This was my second year hosting talks at the lovely Haze stage and the first guest in our little series is Australian DJ and Animalia label boss, @kia-sydney. A longtime lover of dance music who started DJing in 2015, Kia's sets travel from dark and driving to playful and euphoric with complete ease — she's an artist who refuses to limit herself, and her sound only benefits from not being boxed in, while her label's exports are as adventurous and exciting as she is. More than just a creative outlet, music is a form of personal expression for Kia, and she is an expert in crafting not only DJ performances, but mixes that are often akin to a diary. As always for these live talks, rather than honing in on one topic, we're exploring each artist's journey and the musical pursuits that make them who they are.

Kia ora,Welcome to Friday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news benchmark bond rates are on the move higher as the bond market passes its judgment on the geopolitical trade situation and the US Fed's signals.Basically they are pricing in risks where American inflation risks are not contained, and there is no real resolution to the trade tensions triggered by Trump. The Trump/Xi meeting ended with Trump claiming it was "an amazing meeting" with "all issues resolved". Markets discounted the hubris seeing the outcome actually making little practical progress. But at least it seems to be a truce. If there is any progress, it will come after further negotiations. Basically it was a photo op resulting in an invitation for Trump to visit Beijing where his ego can be stroked. The meeting brought China more time to finesse its position with the US, and more broadly, it made clear just how much stronger China has become since Xi and Trump last met. And interestingly, neither country has yet bothered to release a readout of the leaders meeting. In Japan, their central bank kept its benchmark short-term rate unchanged at 0.5% in October 2025 and extending a pause since the last hike in January. It was the market-expected decision, bit it was a split 7-2 result, with two members pushing for a rise to 0.75%, as they had at the prior meeting.Japanese share erased losses after the central bank boss gave his press conference review, but the yen dipped. In Europe, with inflation under control and its economy humming along at a modest level, but near potential, the ECB left all their settings unchanged, both interest rates (at 2.15%) and their balance sheet run-down pace. It has been a long time since they can claim their objectives are running as they would like.Meanwhile, overall economic sentiment is picking up in the EU, consistent with the improving economic data. Both industry and consumer sentiment are up in October and expectations are back to long-term averages, a position they haven't been in since early 2022.So it will be no surprise to know the Q3-2025 EU GDP rose from Q2 to be +1.5% higher than a year agoIn Germany, their October inflation rate inched lower to 2.3% from 2.4% in the prior month. But this wasn't quite as bigger move as the 2.2% rate expected. Energy costs there are falling and food prices are up only a modest +1.4% within the overall result.Globally, passenger air travel rose +3.6% in September from a year ago, with international travel up +5.1%. This was led by Asia/Pacific's +7.4% increase and trailed by North America's +2.5% rise. US domestic travel stood out with its -1.7% fall, the only region to record a shrinkage.Container freight rates rose another +4% last week, as China-USWC, and China-EU rates picked up notably. Overall they are now -41% lower than year-ago levels.Bulk freight rates fell -4.9% last week to now be +42% higher than year-ago levels. The UST 10yr yield is now at 4.10%, up +7 bps from yesterday after the Fed announcement and after the US-China talks. The price of gold will start today at US$3999/oz, up +US$6 from this time yesterday.American oil prices are unchanged from yesterday at just on US$60.50/bbl, with the international Brent price just on US$65/bbl.The Kiwi dollar is now at just on 57.5 USc, and down -30 bps from this time yesterday. Against the Aussie we are unchanged at 87.7 AUc. Against the euro we are also little-changed at 49.7 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today at just under 62.1 and down -30 bps from yesterday. The bitcoin price starts today at US$108,076 and down another -2.8% from this time yesterday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has again been modest at just on +/- 1.9%.You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. I'm David Chaston. As we head to the end of the year, with new 2026 models out or on the way, many buyers are looking for end of year deals. We are doing a review of some of our reviews of popular models, just in case....A trail tamer or a family hauler—what truly fits your life right now? We put two 2025 standouts under the microscope: Chevrolet's Colorado ZR2, a factory-built off-road machine with real armor and beadlock-capable wheels, and Kia's Sorento SX Prestige with the X Pro package, a smart three-row SUV tuned for comfort, tech, and daily ease. Along the way, we unpack the details that matter beyond the brochure: how the ZR2's underbody camera and rocker protection change your confidence on rocky terrain, why the lifted suspension improves clearance but complicates step-in height, and how the TurboMax four-cylinder's 430 pound-feet moves the truck even when it sounds busy.Shift to the Sorento and the vibe changes. Dual 12.3-inch panoramic displays streamline navigation and driver info, while a digital rearview mirror widens your view in traffic. Heated and ventilated seats in both the front and second-row captain's chairs elevate comfort, and rear door sunshades beat tint when you don't want darkness at night. On the road, 17-inch wheels with taller sidewalls calm bumps and cut harshness in a way low-profile tires rarely can. With up to 4,500 pounds of towing in the 2.5-liter turbo AWD setup, the Sorento handles small trailers and weekend projects without drama, and city maneuverability stays stress-free.We also get practical about numbers. The Colorado's ZR2 pricing reflects serious hardware and a 7,700-pound tow rating when equipped, all in a package that still fits a standard garage. The Sorento's value story spans from accessible base models to a feature-rich SX Prestige around the high $40Ks as tested, competing in a crowded segment with a flexible third row that doesn't feel oversized. By the end, you'll know whether your miles call for rock gardens and skid plates or a calm commute with room for kids and cargo. If you enjoyed this breakdown, follow the show, share it with a friend who's shopping, and leave a quick review to help others find us. Which one would you park in your garage and why? Kia ora,Welcome to Thursday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news the two big policy set pieces today have been underwhelming.First up today, the US Fed trimmed its policy rate by -25% as expected, bringing the target range to 3.75% to 4.00%. It issued a timid wait-and-see review which would be consistent with growing divisions within the policymaking committee, and growing worries that inflation is returning even as their labour markets weaken fast. Policy during stagflation requires a choice. One group wants the low-interest rate juice now, the other takes its inflation fighting mandate seriously.Immediately after the announcement, the S&P500 dipped slightly, the UST 10 year yield rose a few basis points, and the USD changed little. The announcement had no impact on the gold price - nor the bitcoin price.Earlier is was reported that mortgage applications rose +7.1% last week from the weak prior week, mainly on the back of pent-up refinance activity. Mortgage interest rates dipped but only minorly and were probably not the reason for the jump, which came after four consecutive weeks of decline. But having noted that, the small rate dip did taken them to their lowest level in more than a year.September pending home sales were soft, dipping -0.9% from the same month a year ago. This followed a +3.8% rise in August. As expected, the Bank of Canada trimmed its policy rate by -25 bps to % in its overnight decision. It said that the Canadian economy is adjusting to tariffs and the sharp drop in demand for exports. The reconfiguration of global trade and domestic production is leading to higher costs. Total inflation there has been around 2%, while underlying inflation remains about 2½%. Following the decision, their central bank boss suggested their easing cycle may be over as they expect cost pressure to rise as their economy goes through this adjustment phase.Malaysia's producer prices dipped slightly in September, down -0.8% from a year ago, but this was the least in six months as deflationary pressures seem to be past them now.Meanwhile Singapore's producer prices are on the upswing now. They rose +3.7% in September from a year ago, the most in six months. It was more for factory products with those surging about double that rate on the year-ago basis. In Australia, inflation is rising, and by more than expected. Their monthly indicator reported it rose +3.5% from the same month in 2024. The RBA meets next Tuesday to decide on its cash rate, and this seems to put the kibosh on the chance of any cut. In fact, a rate hike might get some airtime in their review. At the APEC meeting in South Korea, all eyes are on the Xi-Trump meeting results - and how far Trump has backed down. (TACO) Of course, both sides will talk up the outcome, but early signs are that things like China's resumption of soybean imports from the US will be nominal at best. Trump's deals with both Korea and Japan have long-tail implications that may not work out for the US. But the short-term optics are all that matters at present.Demand for air cargo transport rose for its seventh straight month, up +2.8% in September globally from a year ago, up +3.2% for international air shipments. This was led by the +6.9% rise in the Asia/Pacific region, and lagged by the -1.4% retreat in North America,The UST 10yr yield is now at 4.00%, after the Fed announcement. The price of gold will start today at US$3993/oz, up +US$38 overnight and making back yesterday's drop.American oil prices are up +50 USc from yesterday at just on US$60.50/bbl, with the international Brent price just on US$65/bbl.The Kiwi dollar is now at just on 57.8 USc, and unchanged from this time yesterday. Against the Aussie we are down -10 bps at 87.7 AUc. Against the euro we are up +10 bps at 49.7 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today at just under 62.4 and up +10 bps from yesterday. The bitcoin price starts today at US$111,195 and down -3.7% from this time yesterday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has again been moderate at just on +/- 2.0%.You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. I'm David Chaston. //The Wire//2300Z October 28, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: LONDON STABBING KILLS ONE, WOUNDS TWO. FRENCH RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE TARGETED IN ARSON ATTACKS. USA STRIKES 4X NARCO-VESSELS IN PACIFIC OCEAN. MEDICAL RESEARCH MONKEYS ESCAPE AFTER VEHICLE CRASH IN MISSISSIPPI.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-United Kingdom: This morning a mass stabbing was reported in a residential area of Uxbridge, a suburb of London. One person was killed and two others wounded during the attack, with at least one of the wounded being a child. The assailant has been reported to be an Afghan refugee.Analyst Comment: While knife attacks are incredibly common in London, this one was particularly brutal because it was so random and caught on video. The victim was out walking his dog when an Afghan migrant attacked him and stabbed him to death on the street.France: Multiple arson attacks were carried out on the high speed rail lines between Marseille, Nice, and Montpellier. These arson attacks took the form of unknown malign actors setting fire to the signaling equipment (and really anything that looked important) at several points along the tracks. These incidents ended up causing many delays as trains had to be re-routed to other lines to continue service.South America: Overnight, the War Department announced several more airstrikes in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Three kinetic strikes were carried out on a total of four vessels (one strike targeted two boats that were tied together to exchange bundles of drugs at sea). 14x KIA were reported in total as a result of these strikes, along with 1x survivor.-HomeFront-Massachusetts: Yesterday the DoJ announced the indictment of an Indian national who conducted a stabbing attack onboard a Lufthansa flight on Saturday. The DoJ states that Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli was arrested in Boston after the Germany-bound flight was diverted due to his attack. The press release states that one of the victims awoke to find Usiripalli standing over them, before trying to stab the victim to death. In the ensuing fray, at least one other passenger was stabbed. The assailant also attempted to stab several crew members while attempting to be subdued. Both victims are juveniles, and it's not clear as to why Usiripalli attempted to murder them during the flight.Mississippi: This afternoon a vehicle accident involving a research truck filled with biological specimens was reported on I-59 in Jasper County. This accident resulted in the inadvertent release of several Rhesus monkeys that were being used for medical research at Tulane University. Initial reports from the Sheriff's Department stated that these monkeys are infected with a variety of diseases, including COVID and Hepatitis. However, this afternoon a representative from the University stated that the monkeys were not infectious.Analyst Comment: Yes, this is a real thing that happened. The escape of medical research monkeys happens surprisingly often, usually without much fanfare. In this case, the initial information that these monkeys were carrying the plot of about 4 different apocalyptic movies caused the story to gain a lot of traction immediately. Most of the monkeys have been re-captured and/or killed, but at least one remains on the loose. As such, locals have been advised to keep a lookout.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: The attacks on French rail infrastructure are a very common attack vector that is carried out daily throughout the nation. Arson attacks on electrical infrastructure (or in this case, signaling boxes beside the tracks) are carried out with such frequency that the local media doesn't usually report on them unless it causes major disruptions. Usually, the culprits are officially "unidentified", but in the overwhelming majority of cases the attacks are mostly ANTIFA or other types of anarchist groups whi

Recap From Listener Chris: Daisy and Ellyn recap Love is Blind Season 9, Episode 5 and force us all relive the most painful tunnel of love encounter with Patrick and Kacie. They also inspire us to hate Mike more than we ever thought we could... which is an impressive skill, since this dude is a diabetes-shaming loser who thinks everyone's favorite honeymoon destination, spring break spot, and cruise port, Tulum, is "exotic." Meanwhile...we all agree that although we sorta like Sparkle Pony Pinkie Pie and Kia-driving Jordan, we're a little concerned about Megan's use of the word "mom" when she talks about Jordan's son. Finally, Edmond jumps really high and Daisy and Ellyn thankfully remind us all that Ali and Anton still exist... where are those guys?
Kia ora e te whānau. Best laid plans and all that…We had a bumper episode lined up for you this week, with a lot of stuff to talk about, and an amazing GRE, that was even before we got to Andrew's conversation with the mighty Helene Barron. Annoying story short, our entire episode got zoinked by the AWS outage. Perfect. So please enjoy this distilled episode of DCR, with the one and only Helene Barron, elite trail athlete, high-performance physiotherapist, coach, mother, wife, sister, friend, and legend. The trail exploits are but a small part of Helene's story, as she has recently gone through a two-year battle with tongue cancer. Continuing this month's topic on attachment and attunement, we have with us today the Life Model Works Executive Director, Marlene Allen. So many of our clients and listeners ask how I can have joy in pain or return to joy when things seem hopeless. Isn't that like just being happy and faking it until you make it?No!Today, we talk about adversity, pain, and lament, and how they differ from complaining and venting, which are stuck in disgust or contempt. Lament is a release and offering, and complaining amplifies your pain and can blind you. So join our discussion today to learn more about:Self-attunmentAttunement to God and developing iSight, is Immanuel always with me?How does pain impact me?Lamenting vs Complaining About our Guest:Marlene Allen currently serves as the Executive Director of Life Model Works. Description: In this week's episode of America on the Road, host Jack Nerad and co-host Chris Teague get behind the wheel of two luxury crossovers aiming to win over premium SUV buyers. Chris reviews the 2026 Genesis GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige, a sleek and tech-packed SUV that blends bold styling with real driving chops. Jack reports from the road in Texas on the 2025 Lexus TX 350 AWD Luxury, a spacious, well-appointed three-row SUV built with well-heeled American families in mind. It started as one woman's unusual plan to control ticks on her family's old Wisconsin farm: drive hours in a tiny Kia, pick up ten ring-neck pheasants in burlap sacks, and release them on the land. But the road trip spiraled into a comedy of chaos—hissing birds, Jurassic-Park-like screeches, an unforgettable smell, and a surprise waiting in the back seat. Out of that disastrous adventure came an unexpected miracle: one tiny life that would change everything. What began as a spur-of-the-moment farm solution became a heartfelt bond with a bold little pheasant named Darby, who had no fear of anything—not even the family dog. But years later, after Darby's time on earth came to an end, the story took a turn no one could have predicted. When grief lingered and memories wouldn't fade, something impossible happened—an unmistakable sign that love doesn't always leave when the body does. Was it coincidence… or proof that some bonds really do outlast death? #TrueGhostStory #ParanormalPetStory #HauntedFeather #MessagesFromBeyond #SignFromBeyond #PetAfterlife #EmotionalParanormal #AnimalSpirit #RealHaunting #SupernaturalEncounters #HeartwarmingHaunting #GhostStories Love real ghost stories? Genau das hat unsere Reporterin Kia Kuhnert während ihres Aufenthalts in Brisbane erfahren. Kia ora e te whānau.Even by our standards, this episode of the DCR AidStation is a lot. Future Andrew makes a record number of appearances to preface, foreshadow, recommend, and otherwise act as a lexographical zamboni for Ali and Matt (we all know it is mainly Matt). From last week's epic Taupō Ultramarathon and some interviews Ali conducted whilst running, crewing, and slapping fives, to a lively debate about what is worse for you, port-a-loo stained grabbers sliding into nasty communal chippies for 100km vs drinking some beer out of a shoe. I guess everyone has a hill they will die on, and we are no different. We discuss being broken up with at a Swedish Wedding, Matt discusses his upcoming pacing duties at the Muriwai Half Marathon, and Andrew and Shaggy Redfern ran 100km through the Waitākere Ranges last Friday because, of course they did. We discuss crewing, why you should always say hi, and whether to yap it up or lock it in at your next big event.Excellent stuff.Dirt Church Radio – Best Enjoyed Running.--- --- ---Episode LinksSign up for the DCR AidStation newsletterThe Squadrun 4-Week Training Trial for DCR Listeners!Dirt Church Radio on InstagramDirt Church Radio on FacebookFurther Faster New ZealandEnjoy!Music by Andrew McDowall, Digicake

Kelly is feeling better, but the anxiety from the steroids sure did a number on her. Luckily Lizz was there to step in and host a 4Runner tour to rave reviews. But now that she's feeling better, Kelly is ready to shop the Prime Day deals. The deals weren't the best, but she managed to get some great finds. One of those finds is a belt she needed for the influencer party both Kelly and Lizz are headed to this week. Does this mean they are fashion influencers now? If they are, Lizz has the perfect brooch! Speaking of brooches, they'll be perfect for a holiday outfit. Kelly is excited for most of the holidays, except the fall salad she perfected last year that could now kill her.... Kelly and Lizz continue to be enthralled with the current season of 'Dancing with the Stars' and have a lot to say about this week's episode. Did the right person go home? How much does personality matter more than dance ability? They'll talk about their favorite dances and the ones that creeped them out. In Industry News, a list of the top 25 cars that could last 250,000 was released and the top four are Toyota vehicles. Then some unfortunate news as Kia announced the Soul will not be sold after 2025. Then in Ditch the Drive-Thru, Lizz is bringing back the parmesan asparagus and Kelly is making an easy carbonara. Lastly, Kelly and Lizz celebrate the lives of more of Blake's Besties including the stories of Claire, Molly Grace, Jude and Violet.

In May of 1988, eight-year-old Malakia “Kia” Logan vanished while riding her bike just a few hundred yards from her home in Greenwood County, South Carolina. Despite massive searches, Kia was never found. Two years later, a hunter in Newberry County made a chilling discovery that would confirm the community's worst fears.
