Host and NASM Master Instructor Rick Richey is joined by a special guest Dr. Mallory Fox CPT, CES, PES, FNS, WFS. The two discuss the blending of mindfulness practices with exercise to build stress resilience. To be mindful means we focus our attention on the present moment without judgment. By practicing mindfulness, the goal is to cultivate the ability to be present to internal thoughts, feelings, stresses, and sensations. This skill helps improve health metrics like blood pressure and heart rate and reduces stress. But how can we do this when we have app notifications, work, family, emails, and a new way of living since the spread of COVID-19? Even if we have the phones turned off, we might feel the urge to stay plugged in. Watch the video to see how we can all find some inner peace amid this stressful world we all live in. What if I gave you a behind the scenes look at how bills are put through into law from a man who served with the 115thCongress from 2017 to 2910? Well, in this episode, that’s exactly what I’m going to do! In this episode, I’m giving you food for thought as to how HR professionals address and respond to changes in employment law, as well as a peek into the current Congress deliberations on pending law. An example of a Bill that has been introduced is highlighted below. S.3256 - Schedules That Work Act To permit employees to request changes to their work schedules without fear of retaliation and to ensure that employers consider these requests, and to require employers to provide more predictable and stable schedules for employees in certain occupations with evidence of unpredictable and unstable scheduling practices that negatively affect employees, and for other purposes. My interview with The Honorable Scott Taylor brings real-world legislative experience to the conversation, and provides listeners with a closer look and understanding of how laws are created in the United States. I also provide a PSA to employers that effective May 1, 2020 employers must use the new I-9 Form and you can read about it by clicking here. What if I gave you a behind the scenes look at everything that goes into terminating a CEO? Well, in this episode, that’s exactly what I’m going to do! In this episode, I’m giving you a little sneak peek of what the Board of Directors must consider when terminating a CEO with or without cause, why reviewing the employment agreement is critical, how they come up with crazy big severance packages, and how you tell your employees you just sacked the CEO. It’s a straight forward rundown of the complex separation process between the company and the CEO, as well as looking at some notable terminations in 2019. Today’s Q & A is from a member in our Next Gen Women in HR Facebook Group and is based on an article I posted on LinkedIn last week. The article discussed the recently enacted New Jersey law, which is first of its kind in the nation, requiring employers to guarantee severance pay after mass layoffs (click here to read it yourself). Now, be sure to head to our Next Gen Women in HR Facebook Group, join in the conversation, andask your #brendathehrlady questions! I can’t wait to hear them.
