In this episode, Dr. Eric Bryant interviews Dr. Ross Chandler about his book In His Image: A Biblical, Historical, and Practical Argument for Women in Ministry Leadership which argues for the inclusion of women in ministry leadership. They discuss the biblical foundations for women's roles in the church, the cultural challenges faced, and the importance of empowering both men and women in ministry. 5 Key Takeaways:Ross Chandler's book 'In His Image' provides a biblical argument for women's roles in the church.Cultural perceptions often hinder the acceptance of women in leadership.Biblical passages that support women's leadership are often overlooked. The church needs to equip and empower both men and women for ministry. The ultimate goal is to reverse the curse and reflect the kingdom of God on earth.
In this follow-up conversation, Pastor Josh is back in the studio with his wife Lauren and their friend and co-laborer Cynthia for Part 2 of a candid and thoughtful discussion on women in ministry. As staff members at Church on the Rock, the three go into how their church approaches this sometimes divisive topic—with both conviction and grace. In this honest and heartfelt conversation, Pastor Josh hosts his wife Lauren and staff member Cynthia to discuss a topic that often sparks debate in the church: women in ministry. Drawing from their own church backgrounds, personal experiences, and deep respect for scripture, they explore the biblical roles of women in leadership, the importance of God's order, and how Church on the Rock navigates the tension between empowerment and alignment with the Word. With vulnerability and conviction, they unpack scriptures, historical context, and real-life examples—affirming that while women at COTR teach, lead, and communicate the gospel, the office of pastor is reserved for men. This is part one of a two-part conversation intended to both clarify their church's stance and encourage the wider body of Christ. This is Kelley Matthews, and I am here to introduce to you another Kelly. So we're hoping we don't get ourselves all mixed up here. This is Kelly Dippolito and she is the Executive Director of the Center for Women in Leadership. Now, I've known Kelly for a long time. It feels like several years at least. And we have a shared love for this subject that we have today. So I am super excited to talk about her ministry that she works with and also their specific project called the Visual Museum for Women in Christianity. Welcome, Kelly. Kelly D. >> Kelley, thank you so much for having me on today. And I'm really looking forward to talking about the Visual Museum and the Center for Women in Leadership with you. Kelley M. >> Yes. So give us a little bit of the origin story. Let's start with the center because it's sort of like the umbrella organization. Where did it start? Who's involved— that kind of thing? And what do you do each day? Kelly D. >> Well, I serve as the Executive Director of the Center for Women in Leadership. The center was created by Dr. Lynn Cohick when she was provost at Northern Seminary. She is currently at Houston Christian University, of which you are one of her wonderful students. Kelley M. >> Yes I am. Kelly D. >> Right. So we transitioned the center into becoming a 501C3. A little over a year ago. And within that, we have a couple of projects, including producing her podcast, The Alabaster Jar and housing The Visual Museum of Women in Christianity, which is the project we'll be talking about today. Kelley M. >> Yeah. Let's do real quick. Tell me about The Alabaster Jar. I know that you act as a cohost and sometimes it's just the two of you chatting. So what's the general focus of the podcast overall? Kelly D. >> Well, we release an episode every Monday. Dr. Cohick is the host, and we cover a variety of topics in biblical studies and in topics that affect women in ministry, both in the church, the academy, and also the marketplace. What is it that's impacting our lives? How can we support and equip women? Those are the topics that we like to cover. Also, we have some we try to do some series drops on Thursdays is related specifically to the Visual Museum, and in order to provide that content in a different way than just the website. Kelley M. >> Yeah, Okay. Those are fun. Those come periodically. They're not every week. So. Yeah. And you guys do a good job of saying here they kind of. Yeah, it's going to be fun to look forward to. So. Kelly D. >> All right. Kelley M. >> Let's talk about the Visual Museum. And I have known about it since almost the beginning. So give us I know Dr. Cohick is one of the founders. Tell us about the other two and kind of how I got started. Kelly D. >> Well, Sandra Glahn of Dallas Theological Seminary,
In this powerful episode, Pastor Karl unpacks Romans 15 and 16, diving into the transformative "dynamite" power of the Gospel that saves, sanctifies, and stabilizes believers. He explores Paul's call to selflessness, urging the church to live for others as Christ did, and emphasizes the unshakable hope granted by the Holy Spirit. Celebrating the diverse, tireless servants listed in Romans 16—like Phoebe and Priscilla—Pastor Karl challenges listeners to reject passivity and serve without seeking titles. With passion and urgency, he inspires the congregation to embrace God's inclusive plan and turn the world upside down for the Gospel.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

We talk about the impact of US politics on the rest of the world, the dysfunctional socialist economy of Nigeria, the country's rampant political corruption, and the dim prospects for change. We then talk about the Nigerian Liberty Project, which has allowed Econ Bro to spread the message of Austrian economics and liberty to college students and on air. We talk about the desperate need for this work and how we can help him reach the goal of making a real impact in his country. It is dangerous work and requires funding. In this breakout session from TGCW24, Michael Kruger makes a compelling case for the essential role of women in ministry—not as optional or merely permitted, but as vital by God's design. Drawing from theological, biblical, and historical perspectives, he highlights women's significant contributions throughout Scripture and early Christianity, urging the church to embrace both spiritual fathers and mothers and encouraging women to step into their ministry callings.
Send us a textYou may have heard Dr. Crystal Hall's name on the podcast a few weeks back when I responded to the video about why women are leaving the church. Crystal comes to the church from a feminist perspective–she's doing the deep work of unpacking how patriarchy has shaped religious spaces. As a coach for women in ministry, she helps others identify and unlearn the subconscious beliefs religion has instilled about their worth, roles, and voices. Audio taken from the live video "Can a Woman Be a Pastor?"- https://youtu.be/rgP-c6HkVtoThe controversy concerning the role of women in ministry, serving as pastors, elders, deacons, and various church leadership roles continues to be aggressively debated among respected theologians and denominational leaders. All true Christians agree that the Bible is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. Therefore, on this contentious issue, it is critical that we carefully examine what the scriptures say about the biblical role of women in ministry.1 - Are there examples of women in ministry in the Old Testament?2 - Are there examples of women in ministry in the New Testament?3 - Is there an equality provided for women in the New Covenant?4 - Is there an example in the New Testament of a woman pastor? Key Scriptures for today's teaching: 1 Corinthians 14: 33-40Other Scriptures in this study: Galatians 3:26-29This teaching is not exhaustive and there will be followup teachings about some of the verses that are often used on this topic.Unless otherwise noted, most Scripture will be read from the New Living Translation (NLT) Bible. If you prayed with Tiff, click here https://lostlamb.org/just-got-saved and let him know! We will only have the fullness of the kingdom of God on earth as it is in Heaven with both men and women leading. We need the voice, leadership, and gifts that women have in the Church. In this message, Pastor Andrew Fish talks about God's design in the garden of creating women. He then goes through the two key passages of scripture, 1 Corinthians 14:34-36 and 1 Timothy 2:8-15 that have been used to prohibit women from speaking, leading, and pastoring alongside men specifically in a public church environment. “When you look at the whole of scripture you find women teaching men, you find women leading as prophetesses, judges, and apostles. You find women walking with Jesus. You find women evangelizing. You find that the great commission is both men and women going into all the earth making disciples of all nations.”

Today, we're exploring the hidden history of women in ministry through the lens of the pastor's wife role. Historian Beth Allison Barr takes us on a journey that challenges everything we think we know about women's leadership in the church. We'll trace how women went from being active leaders in the early Christian church to being systematically pushed out of ministry. Barr reveals how the pastor's wife role evolved from a radical act of Protestant resistance to a complex system that both empowered and constrained women. The conversation digs into some tough terrain - how complementarian theology has created environments where women's ministry is limited, and in some cases, where abuse has been hidden. But it's not just a story of limitation. It's a powerful call for reimagining how men and women can work together in ministry. At its heart, this is a conversation about breaking down barriers, recognizing historical complicity, and creating spaces where all people can fully express their calling - regardless of gender. We'll explore how the Southern Baptist Convention became a flashpoint for these debates, why ordination became a weapon against women's leadership, and most importantly, how we might move forward toward mutual flourishing in church communities. Get ready for a conversation that challenges, enlightens, and offers a hopeful vision for the future of ministry.Beth Allison Barr (PhD, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) is James Vardaman Endowed Chair of History at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she specializes in medieval history, women's history, and church history. It ended with the powerful tagline: “Whatever you do, you can't win — so win.”The ad had it's fair share of praise and critics, with TV host Bill Maher planting his flag in the latter camp.On a recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, (airdate 2.14.25), called the message of the commercial a “zombie lie.”“It means like something used to be true, and it stopped being true. And then people kept saying it. I feel like this is a giant zombie lie,” Maher argued. “I mean, when was the last time a woman was told, ‘You can't do this? You can't be confident?' Who are these imaginary, mean old men of the patriarchy?”Well, Bill, “the mean old men of the patriarchy” aren't imaginary. In fact, they are all across America. In fact, many of them are pastors, Sunday school teachers, and some have even started Bible colleges. When I was growing up in a fundamentalist Christian community, the idea that women could “do anything” was not just discouraged—it was actively opposed. On my podcast, Preacher Boys, I've spent years exposing how religious institutions—particularly in Independent Fundamental Baptist (IFB) circles—perpetuate strict and archaic gender roles. These roles aren't just suggestions in that world. They are codified into church doctrine, college curricula, and life expectations.Take Hyles-Anderson College, one of the more well-known IFB institutions. While men at the school can pursue theological degrees, pastoral studies, and climb their way into powerful leadership roles, women are encouraged to enroll in programs like Marriage and Motherhood. (Yes, that's an actual college course.)The curriculum includes credits for “Canning and Freezing,” “How to Rear Infants,” “Scheduling Your Time,” and, my personal favorite, “Crock Pot Cooking.”Notably absent? Any track leading to ordination, church leadership, or even a career outside of traditional homemaking. The highest aspiration for many young women at these colleges isn't earning a degree but earning a husband. It's become a regular joke in these circles that “instead of a BS or PHD, young women go to college for their “MRS” degree!” Hardy har har.To claim that patriarchal control is a thing of the past is to ignore millions of women who are still being told exactly what they can't do. It's to dismiss the experiences of women who are not allowed to preach, lead, or even work outside the home without backlash. It's to erase the reality of those raised in communities where obedience and submission aren't just encouraged but mandated. It's to ignore the fact that 83% of women in ministry positions are not paid. It's bizarre to see Bill Maher, who has made a point to criticize fundamentalist religion in his stand-up, talk show, and an entire documentary, fails to consider the ongoing struggles of women still trapped in these systems. In churches across America, women being held down by the patriarchy isn't a “zombie lie.” It's a nightmarish reality.Sorry, Bill—you missed the mark on this one.✖️✖️✖️CONNECT WITH THE SHOW:preacherboyspodcast.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@PreacherBoyshttps://www.facebook.com/preacherboysdoc/https://twitter.com/preacherboysdochttps://www.instagram.com/preacherboyspodhttps://www.tiktok.com/@preacherboyspodTo connect with a community that shares the Preacher Boys Podcast's mission to expose abuse in the IFB, join the OFFICIAL Preacher Boys Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1403898676438188/✖️✖️✖️The content presented in this video is for informational and educational purposes only. RESOURCES: Join Walking in Core Strength Today! Beth Allison Barr's website "Becoming the Pastor's Wife" by Beth Allison Barr What does it mean to be a pastor's wife? Is it a God-ordained role, or has it been shaped by culture? And how do women in ministry or marriage find freedom when their identity feels crushed under the weight of unrealistic expectations? In this powerful and eye-opening episode, Leslie sits down with Dr. Beth Allison Barr, a medieval historian, pastor's wife, and author of The Making of Biblical Womanhood and Becoming the Pastor's Wife: How Marriage Replaced Ordination as Women's Paths to Ministry. Together, they uncover the hidden history of women in the church, the pressures placed on pastor's wives, and the rise of complementarian theology that has harmed both women and men. Beth also shares practical wisdom for women navigating abusive marriages, ministry challenges, and the journey to rediscover their God-given identity. Whether you're a pastor's wife, married to a man in leadership, or simply navigating the tension between cultural expectations and God's calling, this episode will inspire you to seek truth, embrace courage, and step into the freedom God has for you. Key Takeaways: The Pastor's Wife Role: Cultural, Not Biblical Many assume the role of the pastor's wife is biblically mandated, but Beth reveals that it is a cultural construct that emerged in modern history. While the role can be valuable for those called to it, it is not the primary calling for all women. Recognizing this truth is freeing and helps dismantle harmful expectations. Empowering Lessons from Black Churches Black pastor's wives have historically embraced more freedom and authority in their roles, often co-pastoring or pursuing ministry outside their husband's church. Unlike white evangelical churches, where the pastor's wife is expected to embody the “ideal” biblical woman, Black church traditions emphasize authenticity and community support. The Legacy of Women in Church Leadership The medieval church had space for women in leadership, with figures like Mary Magdalene, Hildegard of Bingen, and Catherine of Siena preaching and holding authority. Beth challenges listeners to revisit Romans 16, where women are commended as apostles, deacons, and house church leaders, proving that women's leadership has always been part of God's design. The Rise of Complementarian Theology and Its Harm Complementarian theology, which ties women's worth to their husband's ministry, rose in the 20th century as a reaction to women gaining autonomy in society. This theology pressures women to prioritize their husband's needs over their own, often leading to emotional and spiritual harm. It also isolates pastor's wives, making it difficult for them to find support or speak out against abuse. The Burden of Perfection and the Danger of Silence Pastor's wives—and women in ministry—often feel pressured to maintain an image of perfection, from their appearance to their children's behavior. This isolation becomes dangerous when they are in abusive marriages, as speaking out can cost them everything. Leslie and Beth discuss the importance of breaking the silence, seeking support, and prioritizing safety over the preservation of harmful institutions. Becoming God-Centered, Not Husband-Centered Women are often taught to center their lives on their husbands, but true freedom comes from being God-centered. Leslie and Beth encourage listeners to seek God's voice and ask, “What are you calling me to do?” Each woman is uniquely gifted and called for a purpose beyond cultural expectations.

West, former professor at Seattle Pacific University. • SPU's Roots: Founded in the Free Methodist system, but compromises have eroded its foundation. • Recurring Patterns: How Christian institutions can drift away from truth when cultural pressures take hold. Segment 2: • Generational Decline: Institutions go from affirming truth, to assuming it, to abandoning it entirely. • Women's Roles: Compromise often begins with shifts in beliefs about women in ministry. • Lessons from SPU: A failure to uphold biblical patterns leads to cultural capitulation—how can we learn from their mistakes? Segment 3: • Everything Matters: Tasks like mowing your lawn reflect anthropology and God's design for creation. • Higher View of Humanity: Even caring for our environment reflects biblical truths about man's stewardship and dominion. • Architecture's Impact: Thoughtful design isn't just aesthetic—it increases productivity and reflects God's order. Segment 4: • A World Gone Mad: THC beer, medicinal marijuana, and the normalization of sin signal a moral decline. • Purity is Allegiance: Virgil Walker argues the fight for purity isn't about repression, but about loyalty to God. • Resources for Growth: Fortis is offering free study guides to equip Christians in their walk of faith. ___ Thanks for listening!
