POPULARITY
My Sunday sermon did not record, so this is an attempt to duplicate it along with its eight points of evidence regarding the sons of God in Genesis 6 being angels.----1. The Hebrew phrase, B'nai Elohim, which is found in Genesis 6, always refers to angels in the rest of the Hebrew Bible.----2. The peculiar offspring of Genesis 6 points to something more than simply godly boys marrying worldly girls.----3. The calling down of divine judgment that destroyed the entire human race, except for eight souls, points to a breaking of divine order unprecedented in history.----4. Why does Peter use a form of the Greek word Tartarus to describe the place of these spirits' confinement when that word refers to the special place of confinement of supernatural non-humans in Classical Greek-----5. Why does Jude compare the sin of the angels with that of the Cities of the Plain-----6. Why are some evil spirits confined in the abyss and others are not-----7. Though it is contrary to their estate to marry, the Bible does not indicate that angels are genderless. Why is it that the two angels who ate with Abraham were objects of lust to the male population of Sodom- -Genesis 19-4-7-----8. Why does Jude cite the Pseudepigraphal book of Enoch, especially in light of the extensive description of angel-human coitus and its effects found in that book-----One point of application dealt with the role of women in public worship.
Dr. Ben Pennington discusses a series of questions taken from Genesis 6:1-8 regarding who were the sons of God and who were the daughters of men mentioned in the passage. Dr. Ben explains that there was a 400 year Intertestamental Period that spanned from the end of the Book of Malachi until the Gospel of Matthew when God was silent. During this period of time there were no prophets and there was no prophecy from God. Dr. Ben explains that during this period of silence from God the books of the Apocrypha (hidden things) and the Pseudepigraphal (false writing) books were written. None of the books were inspired by God and none of the books are included in our Bible. One of the Pseudepigraphal books, titled The Book of Enoch, which was not written by Enoch, claimed that the sons of God were fallen demonic angels that had sex with the daughters of men and produced a mutant race of Nephilim giants that were part-demon and part human. Dr. Ben states that this pagan superstition does not line up with scripture. In Genesis God made it clear that each species is able to reproduce according to their kind. Angels are spirit beings and are incapable of having sex and reproducing. Only God can produce life, not angels. The resurrected Jesus Christ told his disciples in Luke 24:39 the angels and spirits do not have flesh and blood. The podcast also discusses the long life spans of humans before the flood and concluded that God destroyed the world by flood because of the wickedness of man. The podcast ends with Noah finding favor with God and being spared, along with his family, from the flood and destruction.
How We Got Our Bible (Pt.6) This teaching focuses on the apocryphal books and asks the question, 'do they belong in the canon of Holy Scripture?'. Apocrypha is the name given to the 15 additional books that appear in some Bible translations which contain Jewish religious literature. If one was to pick up a KJV Bible today, one would turn the page from Malachi, past the page separating the Old and New Testaments, straight into the first chapter of Matthew’s Gospel. However, in the original KJV Bible of 1611, one would have turned from Malachi to 1 Esdras!! In fact, the Apocrypha was a part of the KJV for 274 years and was not removed until as late as 1885. If one picks up a Roman Catholic Bible today, one will find that it consists not of 66 books but of 73 books which includes some apocryphal books known as the deuterocanonical books. Do these books belong in our Bible and if not why not? What about the great mass of so-called lost books claiming to be from Bible characters, known as the Pseudepigrapha, such as the Book of Enoch, the Book of Noah, The Acts of John, The Gospel of Thomas etc. We shall set out in this teaching to answer these questions along with many more.
