In this episode, Angela Stent and Keir Giles, authors of “Putin’s World: Russia Against the West and with the Rest” and “Moscow Rules: What Drives Russia to Confront the West” examine the history of Russia's national identity and how the U.S. fundamentally misunderstands Russia's view of itself in conflict with the West. The Task Force on Extremism in Fragile States recently released its recommendations, calling for a new strategy to prevent violent extremism from developing in fragile states. Brookings Senior Fellow George Ingram and President of the U.S. Institute of Peace Nancy Lindborg explain why the U.S. needs to change its priorities from defeating terrorists militarily and focus on addressing the economic, social, and political weaknesses in fragile states which lead to the rise of extremist groups. Icarus Witch is considered to be one of the forefathers of the NWOTHM movement. After numerous lineup changes, the creative core of Lukas and bassist Jason Myers still stands strong. The Witch returned in 2018 with a brand new album and a new line up featuring new vocalist Andrew D'Cagna, formerly of Brimstone Coven. […]
Quinn Lukas, guitarist for heavy metal band Icarus Witch, joins us this week to discuss the band's freshly released album, Goodbye Cruel World.
I've been a fan of Icarus Witch from the moment I heard the Roses On White Lace EP when we got it as a new release at WSCA about 6 years. It's only taken that long for Black Night Meditations to finally have the Witch on the 106.1 airwaves. Since that first EP, the band has released 3 stellar albums and experienced the rise of the scene, growing in size and scope. Yet the band predated it by years. The Witch's commitment to their craft is proof that they will still be here years from now. While firmly steeped in Metal history, at times wearing their influences on their sleeves, Icarus Witch has created a sound all their own. When you hear their music, you know it's the Witch. Up first is guitarist Quinn Lukas calling in (from a men's room in a bar) for a live on-air Witch update with myself and Turn It Up host Jim Alvino. Afterward, you will hear our backstage discussion with Lukas, bassist Jason Myers and vocalist Christopher Shaner recorded after a concert during the Paul Di'Anno tour. http://www.reverbnation.com/IcarusWitch Email/Requests: blacknightmeditations@msn.com Playlists: http://wscafm.radioactivity.fm/show.html?showoid=1242&sort=new BLACK NIGHT MEDITATIONS - A heathenish foray along the shining path.
