According to Peter Rex, who's been in real estate for 16 years and has purchased and managed over 20,000 properties, "Big Tech leadership has lost its social license to lead. They're focused on extracting value, rather than creating it; muzzling dissent rather than freeing our voices; oppressing rebels rather than being the rebel." He seeks to be part of a movement to change that. Special Offer: We love our monthly Happily date box — it's full of games, recipes, and activities that bring us closer together. With abortion back in the headlines, this week's guest on the podcast is at the center of the pro life fight, having survived an abortion just 4 years after landmark decision Roe v. Wade allowed abortions. We tackle this polarizing issue on "Run The Race," which hopefully you subscribe to. (5:48) Melissa Ohden is the survivor of a failed saline infusion abortion. She describes being in a toxic solution in her mother's womb for 5 days, living through that, then being adopted, only to find out at the age of 14 about the abortion attempt. (11:05) Faith intersects with this issue of abortion and Ohden thinks churches should be bolder about rights for babies, just like womens' rights. (14:40) She has testified before Congress in her pro-life fight, talks to us about God calling and using her to help babies and moms. (17:12) Ohden also shares the story of reconnecting with her birth mom, after going through a lot of pain and anger, but finding real healing through forgiveness. It took her more than 10 years to find her biological parents. What's it been like for her mom, who had the abortion forced on her? (25:22)As the founder and director of The Abortion Survivors Network, she talks about what their non-profit does to support families. (27:22) It's come full circle, as she's now a mom of 2 herself, sacrificing for them. (29:02) Ohden's first book "You Carried Me" was reprinted in 2020 and she has a new book coming out next Spring 2022. (31:51) What can be done for the moms who have an abortion or choose not to have one? (34:38) How can pastors approach the issue of abortion? What if being pro-life makes you appear judgmental? Ohden answers these tough questions. (38:20) We dive into the latest developments and why Ohden has hope that Roe v. Wade may be overturned. (42:33) Our guest, who I met at the Sound Choices Pregnancy Clinic gala in Columbus GA last month, closes us in Prayer. (46:30) The final segments are "Food for Thought" about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi defending her pro-choice stance as a Catholic and "Parting Gift" with the Bible's take on the value of life. Thanks for listening! And please share it with your friends using #RunTheRace podcast. Also, write a quick review about it. For more info, go to www.wtvm.com/podcast/.

It began in March of 1987, when the playwright Larry Kramer gave a speech at the Lesbian and Gay Community Services Center in New York's West Village, telling half the room to stand up. He bluntly informed those in attendance, that many people would be dead from Aids in just a few years, if they didn't fight back. The US government's response to the HIV-Aids crisis had been slow, with President Reagan reticent to offend the conservative morals of the Christian Coalition who helped secure his election. In response, the Aids Coalition to Unleash Power - Act Up - took to the streets to demand politicians and public health agencies do more.

Are schools teaching students enough about climate change? And are they empowering them to do something about it? In PISA 2018, an average of 88% of high-school principals in 66 countries reported that climate change was covered in the school curriculum. But maybe this needs to come earlier. We hear from Shreya KC, 23, from Solukhumbu, Nepal. Shreya was a delegate at COP25 in Madrid, Spain in 2019, an organiser of the Mock Cop initiative in 2020, and is currently the National Network Coordinator for Nepalese Youth for Climate Action. Science teaching expert Michelle Dickinson says a lot of those she has spoken to are confident about getting a Covid-19 vaccination once their questions have been answered. Dickinson, also known as Nanogirl, has has been running virtual Q and A sessions about the vaccine for teachers and school staff. She said some teachers were so alarmed about an incoming vaccine mandate they were considering sacrificing their careers. But most of them just needed to hear more about how the vaccine was made. "What we do in some of these workshops is literally break down the real basics. What is mRNA? How does the vaccine work? What clinical trials have been done? What do they do in those trials? When did those trials end? How many people were in them? " she said. 'Then we compare that to previous vaccines and people then go, 'oh, actually, it's gone through all the steps. We thought they skipped some because it came out so fast'. "When you have these conversations, just explaining how vaccines are made, which most people don't know how any of their vaccines have ever been made, that they've ever taken, but now they have an interest, they go, 'Oh, this is interesting. I didn't know this, now I can take this information and make decisions based on this evidence that I now have'." Using the example of somebody who would wait for Novavax instead of taking the Pfizer-made Covid-19 vaccination currently available in New Zealand, Dickinson said some may be nervous about mRNA technology. "Because it sounds new they feel like it hasn't been tested yet, and therefore, they don't want to be a guinea pig. "They don't think the safety testing has been done yet, and therefore, they'll wait for the old method, not understanding that the Novavax is actually still a new vaccine, it's just based on old technology." Dickinson noted the Pfizer vaccine has gone passed all the necessary safety trials.

A note from Talking Taiwan host Felicia Lin: My guest on this episode of Talking Taiwan is Hsinyi Lin, the Executive Director of the Taiwan Alliance to End the Death Penalty. She spoke with me about the movement to abolish the death penalty in Taiwan. 2000 was an exciting year for Taiwan, it was the first time that there was a transition in power from the Kuomintang, and the first time that a Democratic Progressive Party presidential candidate, Chen Shui-bian was elected. That same year President Chen Shui-bian announced that the death penalty would be gradually be abolished. However, in September of 2000 there was an execution. This is part one of a two-part interview. In next week's episode, I will get in to a deeper discussion with Hsinyi about the public opinion on the death penalty in Taiwan, why the death penalty has not yet been abolished and the problems with the current death penalty procedure in Taiwan. Here's a little preview of what we talked about in this podcast episode: How Hsinyi got involved in the movement to abolish the death penalty in Taiwan The announcement in 2000 by President Chen Shui-bian (the first Democratic Progressive Party president of Taiwan) that the death penalty would be abolished How Lu Cheng (盧正) a case that was believed to be innocent was executed in September of 2000 after the Taiwan Alliance to End the Death Penalty asked Control Yuan was to review the case This first case proved innocent by the judicial system in Taiwan was the Hsichih Trio (蘇案) Exonerated cases in Taiwan with the year the case started and the year the case was exonerated: Hsichih Trio (蘇案): Su Chieh-ho (蘇建和), Liu Bing-lang (劉秉郎), Chuang Lin-hsun (莊林勳, 1991-2012) Hsu Tzu-chiang (徐自強, 1995-2016), Cheng Hsing-tse (鄭性澤, 2002-2017), Hsieh Chih-hung (謝志宏, 2000,-2020) Taiwan Alliance to End the Death Penalty's (TAEDP) work on cases believed to be innocent How Taiwan Alliance to End the Death Penalty was formed on December 9, 2003 The urgency of the case of Tzu Hsu-chiang (徐自強) who was exonerated in 2016 How Taiwan Alliance to End the Death Penalty advocates and deals with all death row inmate cases The NGOs that Taiwan Alliance to End the Death Penalty works with Related Links: To view all related links for this article, click link below: https://talkingtaiwan.com/hsinyi-lin-fights-to-abolish-the-death-penalty-in-taiwan-part-1-ep-152/

There's some bright spots, but there's also a bunch of really questionable characters and creative decisions that we're afraid just aren't working (and it doesn't all have to do with those lights).Where do we go from here?
