Becky Hill wanted to sell books. Alex Murdaugh's murder convictions are gone. And the financial crime victims who sat on that witness stand are now being told by the state's highest court that some of their testimony had "zero probative value." Eric Bland represented those victims. He's the attorney who exposed the financial schemes that prosecutors used as their entire theory of motive. And he's furious.The Supreme Court's ruling turned on Hill's conduct — the improper comments to jurors, the pressure to convict, the book deal that allegedly motivated her interference. Hill has since pleaded guilty to obstruction and perjury. She received probation. And now Murdaugh's defense team is suing her for six hundred thousand dollars under a federal civil rights statute, claiming any money recovered goes to the financial crime victims Bland represents.Bland wasn't consulted. He has questions about that promise. He also has questions about Harpootlian's "lone wolf" theory — the suggestion that Hill may not have acted alone in influencing the jury. That's not an idle question. If the defense can establish that someone else was involved, the entire first trial becomes even more radioactive — and the prosecution's job at retrial gets exponentially harder.This interview is with the lawyer who knows where the financial bodies are buried, who has watched this case from inside the machinery since the beginning, and who is now watching the court system tell his clients their suffering didn't count enough. In a previous episode, we said that rural EB-5 projects trade safety for speed; and that did not go down well with everyone.  In this episode, We put the hard questions to Dr. Vish, a developer with over 43 years of experience who is actively building in rural America, with projects spanning from Chicago to Hawaii. Yes, it's true that rural projects are moving with processing times spanning six to eight months whilst urban TEA projects sit in queues stretching to eighteen months. The questions and factors that genuinely matter, he argues, surround capital stack depth, developer track record and market strength. Whether it's financing myths or developer misconceptions, this episode covers the most persistent assumptions in EB-5 due diligence. Merely stamping a project as “rural” or “urban” tells you little about whether your capital is properly protected. Today's Headlines: Trump's Meet the Press interview derailed when Kristen Welker told him to his face that he lost in 2020, but not before he confirmed on the record that he wants January 6th defendants who assaulted police officers compensated, called them victims of "dirty cops," denied ever promising no new wars, and compared Iran favorably to Vietnam. Coincidentally, a Vietnam veteran filed a lawsuit over the UFC fight night at the White House, arguing it wasn't authorized by Congress and benefits Trump directly since he bought UFC parent company stock while promoting the event, with the Lincoln Memorial scheduled to host fighter weigh-ins, which is a sentence that exists. Trump will also be at the Knicks game inconveniencing everyone with TSA screening and canceled watch parties. On the war beat, Iran fired missiles at Israel for the first time since the April ceasefire, Israel bombed Beirut, oil spiked 3.6%, and Trump responded by calling Fox News to criticize Israel and telling Axios he was phoning Netanyahu because "each of them had their fun" — not the standard framework for analyzing a missile exchange. The May jobs report came in better than expected with 172,000 payrolls added, but markets dipped anyway, prompting Trump to post that "stocks should go up not down, that's the way it was for 200 years," which is not how markets work. And finally, a former Social Security Administration executive blew the whistle on a DOGE-backed plan to mark 2.7 million living people — citizens, permanent residents, teenagers, senior citizens — as dead in federal databases to make life impossible for immigrants and funnel them into Social Security offices where they could be arrested, which didn't go through, though last year officials did successfully file 6,000 people into the Death Master File, some of whom had to physically show up to prove they were alive. A new masculinist movement has gone mainstream on the right. The prominent voices in this movement yearn for an earlier time, when men were men and women were women. Sometimes that time seems to be the 1950s, like when Tucker Carlson extols a world where men go to work and women stay at home. But sometimes it goes way farther back. The pastor Doug Wilson advocates household voting, in which men vote for their wives. And Costin Vlad Alamariu, better known as Bronze Age Pervert, harks back to the Bronze Age — specifically the ancient Hittite and Mitanni Empires. Helen Lewis wrote a recent cover story for The Atlantic about this new antifeminist backlash, which she calls “the single most important force holding together the American right.” So I wanted to have her on the show to talk about these ideas, the political program of this movement and how seriously we should take it. Lewis is a staff writer at The Atlantic and the author of “Difficult Women: A History of Feminism in 11 Fights” and “The Genius Myth.” This episode contains strong language.
