Coach Donavin Britt on Building Las Vegas Combat Academy, Mental Toughness, and Protecting Gym Culture Host Pete Deeley interviews Coach Donavin Britt on The Jiu Jitsu Mindset, discussing Britt's path from apprenticing under instructor Roger Donofrio into becoming a Krav Maga and self-defense-first gym owner who later added jiu-jitsu and MMA. He describes earning high-level training under figures including Sgt. Major Nir Maman (as the first American certified instructor), Darren Levine, and John Whitman, and discusses the importance of standards, mental toughness, and having a purpose bigger than oneself. Britt addresses misconceptions and quality-control issues in Krav Maga, his motivation to compete in jiu-jitsu (including winning at NAGA while representing Krav Maga on his rashguard), and how sparring and competition serve as stress tests while differing from real self-defense. He recounts a memorable fight from the 1990s loss-prevention work in Oakland involving a drug-impaired suspect who required a rear-naked choke to stop, using it to emphasize the need for a varied skill set. Britt also strongly condemns misconduct in martial arts settings, details removing a student with a troubling history involving women to protect members, and argues men and coaches must "guard the mat" and enforce clear consequences to keep women safe. He shares a transformative student story about a teenager, Angel, who was assaulted and regained confidence through training and sparring, connecting it to mentorship, accountability, and coaching built on consistent care and firm parameters. The episode ends with Deeley inviting Britt to return for further discussion. 00:00 Welcome Back + Coffee & Kids Program Plug 00:33 Meet Coach Donavin Britt 01:36 Life Without Martial Arts? From Ice Dances to Lice Fights | Good To See You | Ep 214Jen Bartels, Caitlin Brodnick, and Isaac Abrams jump from ice dancing vs. figure skating and Simone Biles' “twisties” to audition nightmares, lice horror stories, ski-lift scares, LA 2028 logistics, and a goofy “Itch Begone” sketch. Honest, funny, and surprisingly tender — perfect for comedy fans, performers, and sports lovers. We dig into what makes Olympic coverage so compelling — the athleticism, the pressure, and the human stories behind highlight reels — and translate that into performer life: auditions that feel like competitions, the terrifying “twisties” that can derail even the best athletes, and the tiny rituals performers use to hold themselves together before a big moment. Expect smart takes on athlete mental health, concrete acting anecdotes you'll relate to (or cringe at), and improv moments that land like a sketch show in the middle of a sports commentary.Beyond jokes and bits, the episode also gets practical and oddly useful: lice survival tips and the real costs of professional nit-picking services, how locals might rent out their LA homes for months of Olympics income, and what it actually takes to prepare for an elite event away from home. Whether you came for the winter-sport gossip, the audition war stories, or the ad-libbed commercial, there's a mix of laughter and insight—plus a few heartfelt moments about family, caregiving, and balancing career opportunities with real-life responsibilities.Like, subscribe, and comment: Which Olympic event would you try? Why is everyone obsessed with Heated Rivalry? Jared and his friend from the stand-up comedy world, Matteo Lane, kick things off by unpacking the hype around the viral hockey romance before diving into a chaotic round of red flag or dealbreaker. They debate whether a boyfriend kissing his girlfriend every single time she gets in the car is romantic or suffocating, react to the shock of a surprise giant tongue ring mid-dating, and argue over a man who feels “betrayed” after learning his girlfriend had a nose job at 19. The episode spirals into celebrity look-alike delusion (strong Joey Tribbiani energy), plus why everyone can't stop talking about The Golden Bachelor! It's a modern dating drama, cosmetic surgery disclosure debates, and maybe too brutally honest relationship takes! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Lit AF Relationships podcast is your resource for creating healthy relationships full of love, trust, safety, and respect. So many couples tell me they don't want to fight as much as they and that their fights never feel resolved, but here's the truth: fighting is a bid for connection, we're just going about it in a tense and uncomfortable way. In this episode, I share a real live example of why fights escalate and how to stop them in their tracks. I talk about why we make conflict mean something about us, how anxious and avoidant attachment styles escalate differently, how to catch the difference between having a feeling and reacting to it, and why a short break, no more than ten minutes, can actually protect connection. If you've ever watched a small disagreement spiral into something much bigger, this episode will help you fight in a way that brings you closer instead of pulling you apart.Discover your attachment style to break free from old relationship patterns. EPISODE 127 - “HOLLYWOOD FIGHTS BACK: THE COMMITTEE FOR THE FIRST AMENDMENT” - 2/16/2026 On October 1st, a group of entertainment professionals—led by iconic actress and activist JANE FONDA—relaunched the Committee for the First Amendment. They did so in response to what they see as troubling actions by the current government, including renewed efforts to silence critics across government, media, the courts, universities, and the entertainment industry. The group is standing up for free speech and creative expression, believing that the right to criticize, question, protest—and even poke fun at those in power—is central to what America has always aimed to be.This isn't the first time Hollywood has come together to push back against the federal government for violating the Constitution. Back in 1947, the fear of communism sent the government into a frenzy. In an effort to root out so-called “commies,” officials went after elected leaders, government workers, professors, and artists. Many were blacklisted, harassed, silenced, and even jailed because of their political beliefs. To counter this, a group of actors, writers, producers, and directors formed the Committee for the First Amendment, an advocacy group to fight these Hollywood blacklisting, during what would turn out to be a very dark and shameful chapter in American history. This week, we dive into the Committee for the First Amendment, how it started, what it stood for, and why it's still relevant today. Scott Galloway and Jessica Tarlov explore a weekend that showcased two very different Americas: Bad Bunny celebrated unity across the continent, while Donald Trump leaned into culture wars, attacking an Olympic skier for expressing mixed feelings about representing the U.S. and amplifying a racist video of the Obamas. At the same time, Congress is reviewing Epstein files, Ghislaine Maxwell is publicly hinting at clemency deals, and Trump's allies are facing political scrutiny. They also break down Trump's economic message ahead of the midterms — from AI-driven growth claims to foreign investment promises — and whether everyday Americans are actually seeing the benefits. Plus, they tackle the skyrocketing cost of NYC private schools, now topping $70,000 a year at elite institutions, and what it means for families navigating a struggling public system. As James Garfield's surprise presidential campaign got underway, he knew he didn't have it in the bag. The Republican party was divided. The Democratic party was united. And there was some weirdo third-party candidate campaigning for an 8-hour workday. *I guess people don't wanna work anymore!?*The fact that many members of his party — including his own vice president — were, at best, mildly enthusiastic about his candidacy made his road to victory even less likely. And yet? A strange little man named Charles Guiteau campaigned hard for Garfield. He was convinced that he'd be rewarded for his efforts. Remember, kids, history hoes always cite their sources!
