After a decade absent John Fogerty returned to the spotlight with the hit album Centerfield in 1985, only to be promptly sued by his old label boss Saul Zaentz for plagiarizing himself. Fogerty won, but legal costs and the desire to remain in the spotlight meant a second album had to come out fast. That album was 1986's Eye of the Zombie, which saw Fogerty embracing the synths and drum machines of the mid-1980s with predictably disappointing results. We have more Mike Flanagan news this week. With the release date of his Carrie series we discuss what we would like to see from the show. Predator: Badlands recently released on Hulu and did record numbers. We talk about what this means for the franchise. We have been lucky to cover some fantastic true crime documentaries on our humble little podcast. We have also seen some great folk horror. We never thought the two would come together. The Last Sacrifice does just that in a surprising documentary. There have been plenty of movies that have been moving along nicely when they suddenly lose the plot. Things become a mess at that point and it is pretty much impossible to get things back on track. A strong argument can be made that The Last Sacrifice loses its way. But it is one of the most fascinating tangents you will ever see. And it ultimately does tie into the greater mystery. The Dreadful will draw lots of attention for its casting of Kit Harrington and Sophie Turner. But it is a performance from another actor that steals the show. The film covers some deep themes and is bolstered by its fantastic setting. But one missed opportunity prevents it from being something truly special. A character driven psychological horror, The Dreadful does not necessarily need a Big Bad, but when it introduces one, it is hard not to expect more from it. Our friend Jeffrey Damnit was in the news this week as he was in Mardi Gras and ran into an apparently inibreated Shia LaBeouf which did not turn out well for Mr, LeBeouf. This is a great time to revisit his appearance on the DMS in 2021Actor/Host/Creature of the Night Jeffrey Damnit and filmmaker "Zombie" Dave Reda joined Mark and Nicole for a horrifyingly hilarious showJeffrey grew up in Chicago, where he was conquering the goth/industrial club scene as an underage teen, which led to him performing in a local freak show and eventually to Hollywood where he studied at Second City and with his whisky soaked voice and effortless cool became the Master of Ceremonies everywhere from EDC to Vampire Balls. He also had amazing facial hair, which led him to a beard contest with unfortunate results and recently to feature in a Lil Nas X video.Jeffrey also appears in Dave's new horror short "As Good As Dead". Dave's journey took him from Northern California to Hollywood where he was an extra in "So I Married An Axe Murderer" (he actually dared to speak to Mike Myers) to performing sketch comedy and developing the show Click This! He also appeared in Erotic Confessions though he remained clothed and his new movie was filmed during the pandemic is now appearing in film festivals all over the world. He tells us why he is nicknamed Zombie and regales us about a visit he got from The Morbid Mariachi.
