In previous lessons, Jesus both cast our demons, healed the sick and raised the dead.In the passage before, Luke 9:1-17, the Lord gives this, His authority to His disciples to do the same things with an emphasis of proclaiming the kingdom of God.This mission journey had an effect on Herod who became aware of Jesus, but was perplexed about Him. When the disciples returned, Jesus took them with Him and when people saw them, they followed Him. Here is then recorded the only miracle found written in all four Gospels as Dr. Mitchell will share. Luke tells us, the Lord was urgently asked by Jairus, the ruler of the local synagogue, to come to his house because his 12 year old daughter was on the verge of death. On the way, the Lord was interrupted when He sensed that power had been drawn out of Him. The disciples were astonished when Jesus said, “Who touched Me?” because the crowd had thronged about Him.It could have been anyone, but a woman came forward and confessed that she had touched Jesus and had been healed.Jesus told her that her faith made this possible.Our Lord also tells Jairus to just believe and not to fear, and He proceeds to raise his sleeping daughter. In our last lesson, we saw how Jesus had power over creation in stilling the storm on the lake. In this lesson, we now see Jesus demonstrating power over demons. Jesus cast out of a man the demons who spoke with Jesus. They told Him that they knew who He was, Jesus, Son of the Most High God. They also know there is coming a time when they will be tormented by being cast into the abyss. So they begged the Lord to allow them to enter a herd of pigs, which He did. Jesus is the one who has the authority over demonic spirits. In this passage, Jesus speaks of true relationships. The difference is between the earthly and heavenly, between the temporal and the eternal, as Dr. Mitchell brings out. Luke, next, gives us the picture of Jesus having authority as the Son of Man. He will show His power over creation and the revelation of our Savior's person as the Son of God. In this lesson, Luke writes two sections. The first is the Jesus' traveling thru cities preaching the kingdom of God. Luke reveals that Jesus and the disciples were supported by several women which he names by name.Then Jesus goes on to speak the parable of the Sower, the seed and the 4 differing soil conditions. The disciples then wanted to know the meaning of the parable. Jesus is the friend of publicans and sinners. Anyone has free access to the Savior in heaven just by calling upon him in prayer. We use to play cowboys and indians as children, but Jesus speaks of weddings and funerals which the children in the market place used for playing games. Jesus likens the leaders of Israel to these children. They were not satisfied by either John the Baptist or Jesus as evidenced by their rejection of both John and Jesus. Dr. Mitchell makes note of this fact that unbelief in never satisfied, no matter what or how much evidence is put forth.Where are you with regard to faith in the truth or unbelief of the facts? We see Jesus in Capernaum, Luke 7:1⁠,This study will look at what Dr. Mitchell terms the commendation of faith and then the raising of the dead.First of all, Jesus commends a gentile Roman soldier, a centurion. Being a centurion he had at least 100 men under his command. Here, this centurion is seen as having compassion on his slave. This was rare. But he was one who had high regard for the nation of Israel. On this basis the Jews were commending him to Jesus so that the Lord would come and heal the centurion's slave. Having looked at planks and splinters or logs and specks, depending on your Bible translation, Jesus goes on to speak of good trees and bad trees which become evident by their fruit. Jesus then applies this truth to the human heart out of which the mouth speaks.Dr. Mitchell speaks with respect to standards of right and wrong which may be tempered by certain influences.There needs to be this distinction between right and wrong for the preservation of society.For this reason, Proverbs 4:23 states “keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.” The believer needs to guard his own heart. This is done by reading and staying in the Word of God looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. Luke 6:32-42 will be the focus of our study in this lesson, with Dr. John G. Mitchell.He continues looking at our attitude toward others found in verses 27-38. These verses show the contrast between divine and human relationships. In verse 35, we see that God is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. God's kindness is without partiality. And in thisOur Father shows His mercy. Do you and I show this attitude to others as well?With respect to judging others, Dr. Mitchell says we should temper judgment with mercy. In Luke 6:20-31 Our Savior speaks both 4 blessings and 4 woes.This message is the ethical teaching our Lord to His disciples. It is applicable to us today as well. First, Dr. Mitchell takes us through the 4 blessings which were aimed at His disciples. He then take up the 4 woes which were aimed at His enemies.Each of the blessings and the woes address the same topics. The blessings are then reversed in the woes. The study of the Gospel of Luke on the Unchanging Word Bible continues in Luke 6:12. Beginning with verse 12, we read of Jesus going out to a mountain to pray. Here Jesus prayed all night.As the next portion of Scripture reveals, He did this because He was going to choose 12 men from among His many disciples. Having chosen these 12, He called them apostles.Dr. Mitchell discusses the meaning of the word apostle and makes mention of the fact that 11 of the apostles were from Galilee in the north and only one, Judas, was from Judea in the south.Then, verse 17, Jesus begins giving instructions to His apostles, and other disciples and a multitude from other regions on the coast.Listening to the Words of Jesus, here is Dr. Mitchell, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Lk.6:12.

Here we see how the religious rulers were again confronting Jesus' disciples on the sabbath day. Once again, JESUS addresses the situation by appealing to the word of God, in the Old Testament, concerning David and his men who were hungry and ate holy bread which only the priests were allowed to eat.Here Jesus states that He, the Son of Man, is the Lord of the Sabbath. Man's faith has higher priority than religious legalities. Dr. Mitchell declares several facets of the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Luke 5:27-39, Luke wrote concerning Levi, also known as Matthew, whom Jesus called to follow Him.He also writes that Jesus told another parable concerning wardrobe and wine, and concerning the old and the new which do not mix. First, Dr. Mitchell takes a look at the calling of a disciple named Levi. He called his tax-gathering friends together and made a feast for Jesus. Here is the first example of friendship evangelism. Then Luke writes how the rulers attack Jesus' disciples first, trying to get at Jesus. But notice how our Lord Himself addresses this opposition. Remember, Jesus said in Acts 9:4, “Saul, Saul why are you persecuting Me?” Saul, later called Paul, had been persecuting the Lord's church. Jesus takes it personally when His church is persecuted. With a little help from filmmaker Ben Wheatley, our 2000 AD obsession kicks into high gear this week. The filmmaker behind such brutally banger movies as Kill List, A Field in England, High-Rise, and this year's Bob Odenkirk actioner, Normal, joins the podcast to discuss his eight-chaptered 2000 AD comic, Judge Dee, which recently wrapped in Prog 2487. Even better, Judge Dee is a sequel to an iconic Judge Dredd story from forty-two years ago, The Haunting of Sector House 9, which encouraged us to dig deep in the franchise's history. It's only fitting that Wheatley layers his 2000 AD tale with a classic, 80s-era cinematic sub-genre, the buddy-cop adventure. It's a little Lethal Weapon, but maybe even more Heart Condition, for those that can recall that complicated (ie problematic) Denzel Washington/Bob Hoskins ghost cop comedy. Ya see, PSI Judge Dee carries a secret. Wherever she travels, she's got a demonic passenger with her, Klato. However, this is not a case of a filmmaker making their way to comics for a little fun. Wheatley is a lifelong Prog reader. It's been his dream to finally scrounge around Mega-City One and add a little lore to this massive universe. Given the opportunity, he knew he wanted to springboard from The Haunting of Sector House 9, pick up where that horror left off, only decades later, and deliver his unique, grotesque, and funky perspective. Aurora was released and Mark and I chat about the physical copies later in the episode but I also had the news from Clive Ayer that Yes' first manager, Roy Flynn, died this week. Clive kindly agreed to come and share his recollections of Roy but before. Here are two tributes, the first from Yes' current management team and the second from Dave Watkinson: All of us at QEDG are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Roy Flynn, Yes's very first manager, there at the beginning, “beyond and before,” when everything was still forming, still becoming. Roy believed in the band at a time when the path was uncertain, when the music was still finding its voice. He gave not just guidance, but energy, faith, and his own resources, helping to spark something that would grow far beyond those early days. In those first steps, from small stages to a recording contract, he helped set the course, quietly shaping the direction of a journey that would travel many roads.  He saw the light in it, the possibility, the dream… and helped carry that “astral traveller” out into the world. His time with Yes was only a moment in the greater story, but like all true beginnings, it mattered, deeply and permanently. The echoes of that belief remain, still moving, still reaching. We send our love and condolences to his family and friends. And with gratitude, we remember Roy.   One of those who stood at the dawn, when the music first turned and began to flow, when “love makes the world go round,” and the journey of Yes first found its wings.
