FoodFutureCo is the first Scale-Up Accelerator for established yet small organizations that are providing unique products and solutions across our food system. Unlike traditional accelerators FoodFutureCo (@foodfutureco) works with companies that have some proof of concept, that are on track to grossing more than $1 million annually, and helps them ""scale-up"" to the next stage of growth. Focus areas include: consumer products, local food, plant-based food, sustainable seafood, ag tech, food tech and food waste. On this episode we talk with Shen Tong (@shentong), founder and managing partner of FoodFutureCo, and two members of Cohort 3. Romy Raad (@romyr001) co-founder of superfood beverage Metabrew (@themetabrew), and Hunter Bryson, co-founder of mushroom products Shroom Snacks (@shroomsnack) and Jewel of the Forest. Shen Tong is one of the most accomplished individuals I have met. It is simply not possible to bracket him in to pre- and post-food careers because he builds on his achievements instead moving from one to the next. Shen is a social activist, exiled from China as one of the student leaders in the democracy movement in Tiananmen Square in 1989, he was also heavily involved in the Occupy Wall Street movement. Shen Tong is a television producer, technology innovator, entrepreneur, serial investor and writer. His accomplishments are extraordinary at 48, and his new focus is food. Shen founded Food Future Co. the world's first scale-up accelerator in food, agriculture and social entrepreneurship. He also founded Food-X, the number 1 food innovation accelerator in the world. These accelerators will support companies that are making meaningful change for the future. Food Future Co. and Food-X are not trying to fund rapid growth for a high return on investment, these companies are the ethical investors in the future of food. Tune in to hear a new perspective on the future of food and what the goal in sight is for Shen’s food movement. If you enjoyed todays episode please subscribe or rate and review. One Industry Fits All, Much Love.
Taking a page from the Silicon Valley playbook, FOOD-X combines start-ups with culinary ventures in one of the first food business accelerators. Created in 2014, the three-and-a-half month program gives food start-ups access to funding and mentorship with the industry stars like chef Dan Barber and CEO Danielle Gould. In-studio guest Shen Tong, founder and partner of FOOD-X talks about disrupting the food industry to create communities of change. This program was brought to you by Bonnie Plants. “In the next few decades the big names in the food industry will be different, some of them have not even been invented yet.” [15:00] — Shen Tong on Tech Bites
