Ep. 81 - This is a gripping look at the high-stakes world of the U.S. Marshals Service with retired Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Bobby “LED” Ledogar who committed 25 years to the agency handling high-profile extraditions, hunting fugitives and nearly losing his life serving high-risk warrants. It is also a deeply personal account of what it was like to lose everything at the hands of the very institution he served because he chose to be a whistleblower in a discrimination case against one of his own deputy marshals. What you'll also find in this episode is Bobby's indomitable spirit and the strength he drew on to not only fight for what's right, but also to fight back. Bobby joined the U.S. Marshals Service in 1995 as a Deputy U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of New York/Brooklyn. In 2010, he promoted to Supervisor of the Warrants Squad assigned to the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force where he led a team of twelve marshals. Prior to joining the Marshals, Bobby served seven years in the U.S. Navy as a Master-at-Arms deployed to combat zones during Operation Desert Storm.Bobby shares behind-the-scenes accounts of some of the most dramatic operations of his career including apprehending a violent MS-13 gang member; his involvement in the extradition of El Chapo; as well as tracking down a double-murder suspect who had evaded capture for more than 16 years – Andre Neverson – a U.S. Marshals “15 Most Wanted” fugitive featured on America's Most Wanted TV show.In 2015, Bobby supported Deputy U.S. Marshal Dawn Mahoney after she reported harassment and discrimination within the task force. As her supervisor and mentor, Bobby stood by her and testified on her behalf. What followed was swift and severe retaliation by the task force members identified in this whistleblower case involving a smear campaign that not only ended Bobby's career but also threatened his and his wife's safety ultimately forcing them to relocate from New York to Florida. In April 2020, just two months shy of his scheduled retirement, Bobby was terminated. The firing immediately stripped him of his pay, medical coverage, and pension—leaving him and his family financially and emotionally devastated. We talk about what has kept him going these past few years, the mission to get back what was taken from him, and where things stand now. Two organizations that supported Bobby from day one:The National Police Defense Foundation (NPDF), which put a legal defense fund in place for the legal expenses Bobby has incurred with his case that is now before the Merit System Protection Board (MSPB). The NPDF is a nationally renowned and congressionally recognized non-profit that provides free medical and legal support services to the law enforcement community. https://npdf.org/ The other non-profit of which Bobby is a board member is the Federal Enforcement of Homeland Security Foundation (FEHSF), a non-profit whose mission is to provide emergency funding to the Federal Law Enforcement Community. https://www.fehsf.org/ You can connect with Bobby on LinkedIn under Robert Ledogar: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robert-ledogar-276277146/ Thanks for listening to On Being a Police Officer. From Cop To Sheriff, His Experience With Murderers. His career in law enforcement spans more than five decades, 51 years to be exact, filled with moments of courage, chaos, and the quiet heroism that often goes unseen. From becoming the youngest police officer in New York at just 20 years old to serving as the elected Sheriff of the Chenango County Sheriff's Office in upstate New York, Loughren's life has been defined by service, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to justice. The Podcast is available for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube and most major podcast platforms. Thomas Loughren is our guest. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast social media like their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. “Law enforcement is more than a career, it's a calling,” Loughren reflects. “Every case, every suspect, every call teaches you something. You learn about humanity, about resilience, and sometimes, about your own limits.” Supporting articles about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . You can find the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn, as well as read companion articles and updates on Medium, Blogspot, YouTube, and even IMDB. A Career Spanning States and Stories Loughren's career took him from the Florida Everglades as part of the Mikusukee Police to some of the most high-profile cases in New York. He recalls one particularly harrowing investigation: a 12-year-old girl had been brutally murdered, and the investigation. From Cop To Sheriff, His Experience With Murderers. Plus he talks about arresting a hit man from a tip from the TV Show America's Most Wanted. The suspect had fled to New York State. “This individual was a hitman for a gang,” Loughren explains. “Tracking him across state lines was challenging, dangerous, and it reminded me why law enforcement can never rest.” Available for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and most major Podcast networks. It was a tip from the then-hit television show America's Most Wanted (AMW) that proved pivotal. “AMW was more than entertainment, it was a life-saving tool,” Loughren says. “The public's involvement often made the difference between justice being delayed or delivered.” During his tenure in law enforcement, Loughren witnessed the full spectrum of human behavior, from courage to cruelty. “You confront the worst in people, but you also see the best,” he says. “I've seen communities come together, strangers help strangers, and officers risk their lives for people they've never met.” Serving Chenango County Chenango County, located in the south-central section of New York, became a central stage for Loughren's leadership. With a population of just over 47,000 as of the 2020 census, Chenango County is part of New York's Southern Tier region. The county seat, Norwich, and the surrounding communities became familiar ground for Loughren as he served as Sheriff. From Cop To Sheriff, His Experience With Murderers. “Being Sheriff isn't just about enforcing the law, it's about guiding a community,” Loughren explains. “You learn how to balance authority with empathy, how to respond to crises, and how to build trust in the places you serve.” Look for The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on social media like their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. The county's geography, from the Chenango River that flows through it to its 899 square miles of land, played a part in many of Loughren's investigations. Remote roads, rural landscapes, and small-town networks often made solving crimes both challenging and deeply personal. From Crisis to Courage: A Life in Law Enforcement Loughren's book, When Crisis Meets Courage, captures these experiences in vivid detail. The book chronicles fifty years of duty, danger, sacrifice, and service, from the Florida Everglades to Ground Zero. “This isn't just a book of cases or arrests,” Loughren says. “It's a collection of lessons in leadership, loyalty, and love for the work we do.” In When Crisis Meets Courage, readers can find action-packed accounts of chases, investigations, and arrests, alongside reflections on the human side of policing. Loughren writes not only about criminals and crimes but about the relationships, decisions, and moments that define a law enforcement career. “Policing teaches you humility,” he notes. “It teaches you that every action matters, every decision can save or change a life, and that courage is sometimes quiet, showing up day after day, ready to serve.” From Cop To Sheriff, His Experience With Murderers. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and other podcast platforms. The book is published through 846 Publishing, where readers can also learn more about Loughren's career and other publications. Reaching America Through Multiple Platforms Thomas Loughren's insights extend beyond print. He shares his experiences and lessons across multiple platforms to reach audiences nationwide. Fans can follow him on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast Facebook, Instagram, watch the episode of the podcast interview and case breakdowns on YouTube, or listen to in-depth discussions on their website, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. From Cop To Sheriff, His Experience With Murderers. News outlets across America have highlighted his career, and television appearances including mentions on "America's Most Wanted" have amplified his voice to the public. “Social media and podcasts allow us to reach people in ways we never could before,” Loughren says. “It's about sharing knowledge, inspiring future law enforcement professionals, and giving the public a window into what really happens behind the badge.” Lessons from a Lifetime of Service From chasing gang hitmen to protecting small-town communities, Loughren's career is a testament to the challenges and rewards of law enforcement. His story demonstrates that policing isn't just about crime, it's about humanity, justice, and the bonds we form in the process of service. It is discussed across News platforms and shared on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Apple, and Spotify, where audiences continue to get their content. “Every officer, every deputy, every sheriff faces moments that test them,” Loughren reflects. “But it's those moments, the ones that require courage, empathy, and quick thinking, that define us.” For those interested in the realities of law enforcement, the triumphs and tragedies, and the leadership lessons learned from decades on the front lines, When Crisis Meets Courage offers an unfiltered, unforgettable look into the life of a man who devoted his life to protecting others. From Cop To Sheriff, His Experience With Murderers. You can find the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn, as well as read companion articles and updates on Medium, Blogspot, YouTube, and even IMDB. Dr. Alicia Kozma returns to the podcast to talk about her favorite film in the franchise: Fast & Furious 6! She shares her thoughts on (and expectations for) Fast Forever. We launch a new game -- how much screentime will The Rock get in Fast Forever? -- and also a new segment, which features controversy from the very onset. Why did Roman become the "big head" butt of the joke in this movie, out of nowhere? We discuss. Alicia shares why Fast & Furious 6 is her favorite Fast & Furious movie. Joe talks about how this movie delivers "the theatrical experience." Joey talks about this film pushing the script to the limits of cast spiderwebbing. We have questions: Is this movie a screentest for Gina Carano? Did the filmmakers knowingly copy Cloak & Dagger and Chungking Express? How does amnesia work? Sam and Jeff are heading to Seattle and they're buzzing with anticipation. They've been researching Pike Market, debating whether to try clams and oysters, and considering a true crime tour. (Though they joke they'll probably be asleep by 10 PM anyway.)The conversation weaves through Nancy Grace's return to cover a missing person case and America's Most Wanted, before landing on their bigger plan: a trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Sam's planning to visit Dollywood, a True Crime Museum with six floors covering everything from medieval crime to serial killers, plus a Titanic Museum and Noah's Ark Museum.Between weekend stories about disappointing beer festivals and awkward comedy fundraisers, they share their struggle through an intense hot yoga class that left them repeatedly retreating to child's pose. One of them discovered they get faint when consuming cannabis while meal prepping, which led to ordering Alibaba Kebabs instead of cooking.Sam's been watching Love is Blind and questioning why contestants with ideal partners keep pursuing others, critiquing Stranger Things for making magical abilities contingent on coming-out storylines, and expressing outrage over Tyra Banks's handling of serious incidents on America's Next Top Model.Ready for some honest takes on travel plans, reality TV drama, and weekend adventures?

Since we concluded our season 1 investigative series on Mary Carole McDonnell, the phony Hollywood heiress, in July 2022 there haven't been any material updates in her case. It's been crickets for the past few years until early December 2025 when Mary Carole was added to the FBI's Most Wanted list. Suddenly, Mary Carole's case was making headlines with every news outlet you can think of. Jami, host of Dirty Money Moves, began doing some digging to satisfy her curiosity about what may have prompted this action by the FBI. She found something interesting in the Dubai court system. It was a Public Notice of Appeal filed by Jeffrey John Nilles, Mary Carole's husband. He'd filed an appeal in June 2024 in response to an unfavorable civil judgment against him in Dubai. There were three people named as notified parties to the appeal, one of them being a woman named Thilani Kumari Brady. A few weeks after finding this information, Jami received a DM from Thilani indicating she'd befriended Mary Carole McDonnell and Jeffrey Nilles in Dubai and that they'd attempted to get their hands on her money. Thilani agreed to an interview and provided a lot of insight on who Mary Carole McDonnell and Jeffrey Nilles are, and what they're up to in Dubai. Stuart Cabb and Tom Pearson, Executive Producers of Girl on the Run: The Hunt for America's Most Wanted Woman, a Hulu docuseries. When convicted double murderer Sarah Pender escaped from a maximum-security prison in Indiana, a nationwide search was immediately launched. Charged alongside her former boyfriend, who pleaded guilty, for the murder of a young couple, Pender vanished, igniting fear, fascination and a relentless pursuit that stretched across state lines. “Girl on the Run: The Hunt for America's Most Wanted Woman” unfolds as a tense real-life cat-and-mouse chase following U.S. Marshals as they raced to track down Pender before she disappeared for good. As authorities closed in, Pender relied on a network of trusted ex-cons and a well-to-do new boyfriend, Tom, to help her evade capture. Even after Tom realized who Sarah was while watching an episode of “America's Most Wanted” together, he continued to help her constantly stay one step ahead as the pressure mounted and the police closed in. We talk about the story of four doomed men, the incredible Tangerine Dream score, and an era of guys filming crazy things in movies that have never been seen before and will never be seen again. Joey tells the tale of Martin the Torch. We talk about the immediacy of the tragedy in the film, as well as its ties to both Fast & Furious and Fast Five -- and a theory for Fast Forever. After his sentence was commuted to life in prison, he was able to charm his way into the prison's honor program, which gave him the opportunity to escape during an outing in December 1973. Lester has been on the run ever since, and is currently on the U.S. Marshals' Most Wanted list. Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss Lester Eubanks. How does a man once on death row end up escaping from custody and eluding the authorities for over fifty years? One way is to allow him and others to go to the mall on an unsupervised shopping trip. Would anyone be surprised when a person with nothing to lose chooses to run?You can help support the show at patreon.com/truecrimeallthetimeVisit the show's website at truecrimeallthetime.com for contact, merchandise, and donation informationAn Emash Digital productionSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Scams, spectacular failures, and billions burned! This special greatest hits episode of History's Greatest Idiots explores three tech disasters that prove innovation and incompetence make the perfect recipe for catastrophe.First up: Ruja Ignatova, the "Crypto Queen" who convinced investors OneCoin was the next Bitcoin whilst running one of history's largest Ponzi schemes. She vanished in 2017 with $4 billion of other people's money, becoming one of the FBI's Most Wanted. Her brother went to prison. Her victims lost everything. She's probably on a yacht somewhere laughing at all of us.Then we explore Y2K, the Millennium Bug that convinced the entire world civilization would collapse at midnight on 1st January 2000. Governments spent $300-600 billion preparing for disaster. Russia put nuclear forces on high alert. People stockpiled generators, tinned food, and guns (sales spiked 700% in some US areas). Airlines grounded flights. Survivalists moved to remote cabins. What actually happened? Some slot machines in Delaware stopped working. That's it. The most expensive non-event in human history. Finally, Sam Altman and OpenAI: the Stanford dropout who convinced the world he was building God whilst burning billions and destroying the planet. From nonprofit to capped profit to whatever OpenAI is now. ChatGPT's explosive growth to 100 million users in two months. The environmental catastrophe (training GPT-3 used enough energy to power 358 UK homes for a year). The brain drain to Anthropic as safety researchers fled. The board firing Sam for lying, 500 employees threatening to quit, and Sam returning five days later more powerful than ever. OpenAI projected to lose $14 billion in 2026 and potentially go bankrupt by mid-2027. Tech stocks making up 40% of the market. Microsoft losing $357 billion in a single day in January 2026. The AI bubble that might crash harder than dot-com.From crypto fraud to millennium panic to AI hype, these tech disasters prove that when greed meets fear meets overconfidence, billions of dollars disappear and nobody learns anything.Join Lev, Derek and special guest The History Obscura Podcast, as they count down the greatest hits of technology's most spectacular failures.https://www.patreon.com/HistorysGreatestIdiotshttps://www.instagram.com/historysgreatestidiotshttps://buymeacoffee.com/historysgreatestidiotsArtist: Sarah Cheyhttps://www.fiverr.com/sarahchey

We're joined by Ben Fritz of the Wall Street Journal to talk all about Fast Five and the future of the franchise! After talking about his beat at the WSJ, what he covers, and how he started writing about entertainment, we ask what he thinks the future will hold for the Fast franchise. We discuss the creative and financial imperatives at stake, how much money a movie needs to make to be "successful," and how the business plan for Fast Five got him invested in the franchise in the first place. Will the next Fast movie try for anything other than wrapping up a story? Will we see canonical Fast shows on Peacock? We sure hope so! We talk about the reality of how the Family has never heisted more than $100 million (in this economy?), how Fast Five outsmarts the "average action film" in exceptional ways, and how Ben would spend $200 million on Fast 11. On the surface it's a straightforward story. Here in South Florida, somebody took 6-year-old Adam Walsh from the toy department of his neighborhood Sears, where his mother said she'd left him alone for just a few minutes because he'd wanted to play at the video games display while she shopped. Store cameras would have solved this – except it was 1981 and stores didn't yet have them. After two weeks of a huge, unprecedented police and community search, and with the story in the local news every day, men fishing 125 miles upstate in an orange grove canal saw something floating they thought was a doll's head. It was a child's head.Just the head.Cops arriving on the scene figured it was Adam. A DNA comparison with his parents would have been definitive – but this was years before forensic DNA was in use. Fingerprints – there was only a head, no other body part was ever found. A visual ID by his parents – they could have made one, but they sent someone else to go to the morgue. Adam's dental records – while his parents and the news media waited, that was how the ID was done, by a medical examiner who compared them to the found child's teeth. Yes, he declared, it was Adam.Adam's image in his last photograph became the raison d'etre for the Walsh parents, who told their heart-wrenching story in interviews with newspapers and on TV talk shows; in testimony to Congress to urge the enactment of new laws to help find missing children, then at a signing ceremony at the White House Rose Garden; and in two made-for-television movies and a best-selling book. John Walsh became the crusading host of a long-running TV crime show, America's Most Wanted, which helped catch hundreds of violent fugitives. Meanwhile, the police had never solved Adam's case. But kind of lost in all of this was Adam himself.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
In broad daylight on October 19th, 2025, thieves dressed as construction workers targeted the Louvre and vanished with $100 million in royal jewels in about eight minutes. On this episode of Zone 7, Sheryl McCollum is joined by former jewel thief Bryan Sobolewski to lay out exactly how a heist like this gets pulled off, what mistakes crews make when the clock is ticking, and why modern forensics can turn a “perfect” job into an evidence trail. Sobolewski then shares his own history, the losses, and long-term consequences, and why he now speaks publicly to warn others away from choosing a life of crime. Highlights: • (0:00) Sheryl McCollum recounts the Louvre entry point, the freight truck with extended ladder, missing jewels, and why “construction work” is the perfect disguise in a crowded tourist environment • (2:45) Sheryl brings in former jewel thief Bryan Sobolewski to talk about the heist • (4:45) The ladder truck problem: sourcing it, driving it, and the traceability thieves cannot erase • (7:15) The moped getaway and why Paris geography favors two wheels • (8:15) Uninsured jewels and what security should have anticipated • (10:00) How fast cases move when the thieves leave obvious evidence behind • (12:15) Flight attempts, the hired-crew theory, and how the organizer can remain invisible • (16:15) DNA, fingerprints, and trace evidence • (19:15) The gear left behind and why serial numbers and rentals make a heist crew traceable • (24:00) Bryan’s New England backdrop, mob proximity, and “street rules” • (27:45) Bryan recounts his father and brother dying on the same night and the questions he is left to live with • (30:15) Why display cases are harder to break than people think, and how reinforced glass slows thieves down • (40:30) Bryan reflects on the long-term cost of crime, what accountability looks like after prison, and why he warns people away from choosing that life Guest Bio: Bryan Sobolewski is a former jewel thief who speaks publicly about robbery methods, prevention, and the real-world consequences of criminal conviction. What really happened inside the FBI during the first year of the new administration? In this America Off the Rails special, we take a deep, data-driven look at every major FBI operation from January 20, 2025 through January 26, 2026 — cutting past narratives and focusing on measurable outcomes. Over the course of the year, the FBI launched multiple nationwide enforcement surges, including:sweeping crackdowns on crimes against children, rescuing hundreds of victims and arresting hundreds of offenders,Operation Summer Heat, a massive violent-crime initiative resulting in thousands of arrests, major weapons seizures, and large-scale drug interdictions, the largest health care fraud takedown in U.S. history, targeting more than $14 billion in alleged fraud, targeted deployments into Indian Country to address unresolved violent crime, and the quiet dismantling of transnational theft rings and nation-state-linked fraud schemes. Most notably, during this same period, the FBI took down six of its ten Most Wanted fugitives — a 60% turnover of the Bureau's highest-priority targets in roughly one year. This episode isn't about press releases or politics. It's about operational tempo, enforcement capacity, and what the numbers actually say about how federal law enforcement functioned in 2025. Whether you trust the FBI or distrust it, the question isn't how you feel. The question is: did they go loud? This episode answers that.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/america-off-the-rails--986237/support.

Which Fast and Furious character would do the best in this situation? Mark quizzes us. We talk about how the whole film feels very Fast & Furious (2009) coded, when the movie feels the most like the Twilight Zone, and whether or not people were rooting for the trucker to win. Tragedy unfolded on April 19, 1995, when a massive bomb exploded in America's Heartland, killing 168 people, including 15 children in their daycare center.Thirty years later, it still stands as America's deadliest domestic terror attack.History says the Oklahoma City bombing was a lone-wolf terror by Timothy McVeigh, a twenty-six-year-old Gulf War Army veteran.Yet the FBI never captured the second suspect who rode next to McVeigh in the bomb truck. Soon the Bureau canceled its global manhunt for “John Doe 2,” claiming twenty-four eyewitnesses who saw him with McVeigh were mistaken. None of this rings true to award-winning journalist Margaret Roberts. As former news director of America's Most Wanted, she worked high-profile manhunts alongside the FBI. How could so many witnesses be wrong?Blowback chronicles Roberts's investigation into a baffling prison murder mystery wrapped inside the Oklahoma City bombing case. In pursuit of answers, she conducts journalism's only face-to-face prison interviews with McVeigh co-conspirator Terry Nichols.Contrary to the official story of lone-wolf terror, Roberts uncovers evidence of a sprawling neo-Nazi plot behind the bombing in which the FBI played a hidden role. Then, while covering its tracks, the FBI allowed terror suspects to walk free, denied the bombing victims justice, and hid the truth from all of us.After an FBI whistleblower steps forward, Roberts puts the puzzle together, though one burning mystery remains: The FBI has kept surveillance videotape of McVeigh's accomplice locked away all these years. Is John Doe 2 the FBl's guilty secret?BookBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
On July 27, 1981, six-year-old Adam Walsh vanished from a Sears department store at the Hollywood Mall in Hollywood, Florida. Two weeks later, fishermen discovered his severed head in a drainage canal near Vero Beach. His body was never found. This case would transform America's approach to missing children forever, but the question of who actually killed Adam Walsh remains deeply contested to this day. In this episode of The Redacted Report, we go beyond the official narrative to explore the details that rarely make it into documentaries and news specials. We examine the seventeen-year-old security guard whose fateful decision to remove rowdy kids from the store left Adam alone and vulnerable in an unfamiliar parking lot. We dig into the explosive allegations that emerged during the Sears lawsuit, including claims made under oath by Adam's godfather Jimmy Campbell about a four-year affair with Revé Walsh and the family's alleged drug use. We trace the bizarre confession carousel of convicted serial killer Ottis Toole, who admitted to the murder dozens of times only to recant repeatedly, and whose partner Henry Lee Lucas was proven to be in a Maryland jail cell on the day of the abduction. We also investigate the controversial Jeffrey Dahmer theory championed by journalist Arthur Jay Harris and witnesses Willis Morgan and Bill Bowen, who independently identified Dahmer as the suspicious man they saw at the Hollywood Mall that day. Dahmer was living in Miami Beach at the time, working at Sunshine Subs just twenty minutes from where Adam disappeared, and had access to a blue van matching witness descriptions. Former FBI agent Neil Purtell, who interviewed Dahmer in prison, believes the serial killer's cryptic statement that "anyone who killed Adam Walsh could not live in any prison, ever" was essentially a coded admission of guilt. We examine the catastrophic failures of the Hollywood Police Department, including the lost bloodstained carpet from Toole's Cadillac, the missing machete, and the destroyed vehicle that might have provided the DNA evidence needed for a conviction. We question the controversial Luminol photograph that retired detective Joe Matthews compared to the Shroud of Turin, which critics dismiss as forensic pareidolia. And we explore how Police Chief Chad Wagner's 2008 decision to close the case through "exceptional clearance" satisfied the Walsh family but left many investigators and witnesses unconvinced.Through it all, we trace Adam's extraordinary legacy, from the Missing Children Act of 1982 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to America's Most Wanted to the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006. John Walsh transformed unimaginable grief into systemic change that has protected millions of children and led to the capture of over twelve hundred fugitives. This is the Adam Walsh case as you've never heard it before. The official story says Ottis Toole was the killer. The evidence says something far more complicated.
On July 27, 1981, six-year-old Adam Walsh vanished from a Sears department store in Hollywood, Florida, and America was never the same. This episode of The Guilty Files Podcast examines one of the most infamous child abduction cases in American history, tracing every devastating detail from that summer afternoon at the Hollywood Mall to the sixteen-year investigation that would ultimately point to drifter and serial killer Ottis Toole. We explore the catastrophic failures in evidence handling that allowed a prime suspect to escape justice for decades, the heartbreaking discovery along the Florida Turnpike that confirmed every parent's worst nightmare, and the unprecedented transformation of a grieving father into America's most relentless victims' rights advocate.John Walsh channeled unimaginable loss into a crusade that created America's Most Wanted, helped establish the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and fundamentally changed how law enforcement responds to missing children cases across the United States. This true crime deep dive covers the investigation, the confessions, the controversies, and the lasting legacy of legislation born from tragedy, including the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act and the nationwide AMBER Alert system. From cold case breakthroughs to the modern fight against child predators, Adam's story remains a defining moment in American criminal justice history. Contains detailed discussion of child abduction, homicide investigation, and serial killer psychology.
It's time for Life in the Fast Lane (about Make-Up Oscars?) and a bit of a twist on our normal episode format. We start, as usual, in the Tokyo Drift Minute to explore new nicknames, including perhaps more implied racism? (Or: maybe not.) We then Run the VIN to find only one image, but in keeping up with historical precedent, Vin is once again in full-on campaign mode (and also again not looking at the right camera). Could Vin Diesel take a digital detox in 2026? What other cars could be immortalized in LEGO? We discuss. Then, we deep dive (featuring spoilers) into Marty Supreme. We lament that both this movie and One Battle After Another came out this year. Joe talks about seeing a charming Short King on screen, and we praise the casting from top to bottom. We then discuss Joshua Oppenheim's upcoming film Primetime (as well as the other new Robert Pattinson movie, The Drama) before we talk about make-up Oscar (and make-up NFL MVP) wins, as well as Hollywood's latest way of grabbing audience attention. Welcome to Your Movie Rocks, an Alternate Ending podcast hosted by Mandy Albert. For every episode, Mandy will watch a movie assigned by her guest host, followed by a lively discussion. There's only one rule: no matter what the movie does to her, Mandy is only allowed to love it. The first year of Your Movie Rocks ends on a very special episode, in which Mandy is joined by her former student Ali Roberts (@deranged_hands on Instagram), now a film student and filmmaker. And, it turns out, a tough player of the YMR game, assigning Mandy the appalling-looking direct-to-video animated feature Life's a Jungle: Africa's Most Wanted. But by God, Mandy will find the good and the beautiful about this ungainly piece of Madagascar-sploitation, and have a great time doing it.
We're joined by Jeanette Ward to talk about Fast & Furious! And, as a bit of a bonus, about Los Bandoleros as well! After we find out what Jeanette likes to see in her big-budget action films (and what she dislikes), we talk about this movie as the first "true" sequel to the original and her thoughts on Los Bandoleros. She shares her rankings (and a new take on No Knees Denise). Who were people rooting for when this movie came out: Dom or Brian? We discuss. We also talk about if Fast & Furious is the first movie where Vin figures out who Dom is, whether Dom can use chopsticks, and whether Brian is good at pool. Jeanette shares what she would like to see in the future of the franchise and then takes the character quiz. Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. It's time for our final episode of the year, and our final Life in the Fast Lane! Don't worry: "I can see something beautiful, cinematic." After covering a Tokyo Drift minute that features a deep dive into the career of Brian Tee (and a new nickname for DK?), we head over to Instagram to Run the VIN, where we notice a series of photos where he's looking at a different camera than the one that took the photo he posted. We then ask: what's going on with Cristiano Ronaldo? Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots? The next Fast film? Ark 2? (We have very few answers.) Does Tyrese care whether or not he's posting AI photos? (Probably not!) We talk about new TV, the latest in sports (outdated when you hear this, naturally!), and Radiohead in Copenhagen. Merry Christmas! We've set a very low bar with holiday movies on this podcast, but Ludacris is here to save the day with Dashing Through the Snow! Well, to be fair, he doesn't seem like he wants to be in this movie, but at least Lil Rel Howery does. After Joey details the true lack of background and trivia, we talk about the unique angles (both in terms of story and lore) that this movie takes before talking about a Christmas movie and belief conundrum. We write the sequel to this movie, explore the world of streaming finances, and imagine streamers' big boards of "content to create." Joey points out what Joe imagines "people who like Christmas" look like. We talk about "movies to wrap presents to," whether a dog is far too big of a gift for Santa to give, and other Christmas movies we could watch. Is Joe... becoming less of a Grinch? We explore. We're making up for a long-time oversight on the podcast by finally watching The French Connection, starring Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider! After exploring the historical context of 1971 films (and which Best Picture winners we've covered on the podcast), we turn our appreciation toward a thing that influenced so many on-screen car chases, cop movies, and The Wire. We talk about how our podcast keeps crossing over with fast food restaurants, how The French Connection captures the griminess of 1970s Brooklyn and subways and real locations (and real bars), and how William Friedkin seems hellbent on showing actual illicit activities on-screen. Joe admires chemistry glass Joey breaks down *the* on-screen car chase. We talk about how the film is like Fast Five. Email us: family@cageclub.meVisit our Patreon page at patreon.com/2fast2forever. It was Christmastime — a season of peace, light, and goodwill — which made the slow unraveling of their minds all the more disturbing.IN THIS EPISODE: Despite being in the middle of the first World War, on Christmas Day, 1914 British and German soldiers sang carols together, exchanged gifts with the enemy combatants, and supposedly even played a soccer game against each other in order to celebrate the holiday. (The Great War's Christmas Truce) *** The case was so mysterious it was even featured on TV's “Unsolved Mysteries” and “America's Most Wanted”: who committed the Christmas murder of Latricia White? And what happened to Lee and Chance Wackerhagen? (An Unsolved Christmas Murder Mystery) *** We're so used to seeing old St. Nick showing up with a big bag of toys for the kiddies – but what if he arrived with another bag full of switches for your parents to use the whole year through if you were on his naughty list? We'll look back at when Santa wasn't purely jolly and jovial, and when he arrived to dole out both presents and punishment! (Santa's Naughty List) *** The Los Feliz murder mansion became the site of a horrifying and sad Christmas tragedy for one California family. (Christmas At The Los Feliz Murder Mansion) *** A haunting holiday mystery took place in England in 1916 when a young bride simply disappeared without a trace. (The Vanishing Christmas Bride) *** A man tries to take on supernatural forces – and ends up as an undead creature who appears as a terrifying Yuletide spirit. In 2018, a wealthy heiress named Mary Carole McDonnell walked into Banc of California in Los Angeles, CA to deliver homemade pies to some of the commercial bankers who worked there. The pies were a “thank you” from Mary Carole for all of the hard work and effort put into the $15 million loan the bank was about to fund for the heiress. The bankers were thankful for the delicious pies, but had no idea this would be the last time Mary Carole would be seen in the United States. The first payment on the substantial loan came due but Mary Carole was nowhere to be found. The bank soon learned that Mary Carole never intended to repay the loan as nearly all of the documentation provided was falsified. The FBI got involved and today, Mary Carole McDonnell faces several federal charges and has been placed on the FBI's Most Wanted list. In the heart of Beverly Hills, just after a red-carpet movie premiere, the life of Ronni Chasen, one of Hollywood's most connected and beloved publicists, came to a violent and mysterious end. On November 16, 2010, the 64-year-old was gunned down in her Mercedes-Benz while stopped at a red light. The shocking murder of the woman who helped secure Oscar Gold for films like Driving Miss Daisy and The Hurt Locker instantly made national headlines. Ronni's influential friends quickly offered a combined $125,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. This massive reward signaled that her inner circle wasn't convinced the killing was a random act. A tip to America's Most Wanted led police to Harold Martin Smith, a man with a lengthy criminal record living in a rundown apartment complex. When confronted by detectives, Smith ended his own life with a .38 caliber revolver. The Beverly Hills Police Department officially closed the case in 2011, declaring Smith the sole killer and the motive of a random robbery gone wrong. However, this "solved" status remains highly controversial due to several glaring contradictions: Ronni's purse was untouched and nothing was taken, contradicting the robbery motive. Police claimed Smith was on a bicycle, but her autopsy report suggests an unknown vehicle pulled up beside her car. The ballistic evidence was inconclusive; documents revealed the findings were "insufficient for an identification" to definitively match the bullet to Smith's gun. Law enforcement was criticized for failing to interview multiple residents and for poor evidence collection. Thank you to this week's sponsors!
