He was charming. He was convincing. And for more than a decade, Jeremy Bryan Jones was a shapeshifter moving through the Deep South—stealing names, slipping past suspicion, and leaving behind only victims and lies.In this week's ReWired episode, Dani pulls back the curtain on the illusion, dismantling the mythology of a drifter who turned murder into a method of survival. This isn't just a retelling of Jones's crimes—it's a confrontation with the systems, the psychology, and the societal blind spots that allowed a predator to keep moving, even as bodies piled up in his wake.We begin with a woman whose story was nearly erased—until a single moment of defiance broke the silence. Then we explore nine gripping speculative arcs, each one rewiring what we think we know:What if someone escaped? What if we could decode the mind of the monster before the damage was done? What if AI, deepfakes, and modern forensics could expose what the justice system missed? From the haunting legacy of a mother's denial to the terrifying plausibility of digital alibis, Dani peels back each layer with sharp analysis, gut-punch storytelling, and a challenge to the audience: What do we really see when we look evil in the eye? This episode will leave you disturbed, questioning, and unable to look away.

This episode comes with content warnings. To be able to accurately describe the level of verbal and physical abuse in this story, it was necessary to include actual accounts that include obscene language, drug usage, and violent acts. The intent of the WHEN DATING HURTS Podcast is never to sensationalize abuse. But there is the need to allow actual survivors to report their stories as they remember them without editing. Abuse is ugly. We want our listeners will learn to be able to detect, avoid, and break free from impending intimate partner violence in any form. This is part one of a two-part story. This story is actually two survivor stories in one. Melody and Lizzie are each survivors of Harry, a toxic serial abuser. What makes what you're about to hear so unique is Melody and Lizzie were married to Harry in succession. One after the other. You will see how an abuser can be methodical. In both cases, the attraction to him at first was quite similar – so were the warning signs, the mounting concerns, the emotional and verbal abuse, and the physical abuse. Of course there were similarities – they were married to the same abuser. Harry merely took what worked in one relationship into the next relationship. We will first hear Melody's story. Then we will move to Lizzie's story. See that if they knew and followed the warning signs, they would have missed a lifetime a misery from this one predatory abuser. Her name is Cindy Paulson, and minutes earlier she had made a run for her life.Through Cindy's extraordinary account, police link her case to a local resident, Robert Hansen. Hansen, a local baker and avid hunter, was well-known and liked by almost all who knew him, including members of the Anchorage P.D. Investigators bring him in for questioning but are ultimately forced to let him go. However, Cindy's report quickly ends up on the desk of Alaska State Trooper Glenn Flothe, who - along with some others - had been investigating the mysterious deaths of local sex workers and dancers...Part two of fourResearch, writing, hosting, and production by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProduceBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

In this gripping episode of The Guilty Files: Uncovered, Brian unpacks the chilling story of Jeremy Bryan Jones—a charismatic drifter who used charm, stolen identities, and the cracks in the system to hide in plain sight across the American South. For over a decade, Jones drifted from state to state under the name John Paul Chapman, manipulating those around him, passing background checks, and leaving behind a trail of violence that went undetected for far too long. But in September 2004, a natural disaster set in motion a series of events that would finally expose the predator beneath the persona. As Hurricane Ivan barreled into Alabama, Jeremy Jones found shelter with the Bentley family—strangers who offered him a place to stay during the storm. Just days later, in the quiet rural community of Turnerville, 45-year-old Lisa Marie Nichols was dead. A beloved mother and community member, Lisa had no idea the man knocking on her door that day was a killer. What followed was a tragic encounter that shocked the community and led to Jones's arrest—but that was just the beginning. The story takes a bizarre turn when Jones, just days after the murder, called police himself. Casually chatting about the weather, he confessed to killing a woman, leading investigators to keep him on the line long enough to locate and arrest him at a Mobile bus station. Once in custody, Jones began confessing to a staggering number of crimes—twenty-one murders across five states, including the infamous Freeman family killings in Oklahoma and the murder of Tina Mayberry in Georgia. But the shocking wave of admissions soon gave way to confusion and frustration, as Jones began recanting his claims one by one.He would later admit to fabricating many of the stories to earn better food and phone privileges in jail, leaving behind a tangled mess for investigators and desperate families trying to find the truth. The case revealed just how vulnerable systems were at the time. Jones had managed to use a stolen identity for years, slipping through the cracks of disconnected databases and outdated protocols. A fingerprint on a beer can at the crime scene, DNA evidence linking him to Lisa's murder, and bloodstains on his clothing painted a clear picture. But the ease with which he moved through communities—passing background checks and gaining people's trust—was a wake-up call for law enforcement nationwide. The courtroom saw swift justice. In October 2005, Jones was tried and found guilty on all counts, including capital murder, rape, burglary, sexual abuse, and kidnapping. The jury voted 10-2 in favor of the death penalty, and he was sentenced to die by lethal injection. His appeals have been denied, and he remains on death row at Holman Correctional Facility in Alabama. For Lisa's family, the trial brought some measure of closure, but for the loved ones of other victims Jones claimed responsibility for, the aftermath was far murkier. Many were left in limbo, unsure if their grief had been exploited by a man who treated life and death like a game. The Bentley family, who had welcomed Jones into their home during the hurricane, struggled with the deep betrayal of having unknowingly harbored a killer. And the small town of Turnerville would never be the same again. This case isn't just about one murder—it's about the broader dangers posed by predators who exploit trust, the phenomenon of false confessions in serial crime cases, and how the systems we rely on can fail in devastating ways. It also highlights how moments of chaos, like natural disasters, can create openings for the most dangerous individuals to do the most harm.In this episode, Brian unravels the layers of deception, examines the legal and investigative missteps, and reflects on the long shadow Jones cast over the victims, their families, and the communities left reeling in his wake. Listener discretion is advised, as the episode includes explicit details of sexual violence, homicide, and disturbing crime scenes. This is a story that forces us to look closely at the dark corners of human behavior—and the systems we trust to keep us safe.Tune in to The Guilty Files: Uncovered for the full story.
Serial killer de canções.
Clive Barker's Nightbreed is the cinematic equivalent of an overstuffed trunk at a goth rave—wildly imaginative, beautifully adorned, and totally incapable of deciding what it wants to be. Packed with jaw-dropping creature designs, luscious makeup work, and a thrilling Danny Elfman score that pulses with dark fantasy energy, Nightbreed sets the table for a full-course horror feast. Unfortunately, the meal comes out half-cooked thanks to tonal confusion and a protagonist who drifts through the story like a half-deflated pool float. Adapted from Barker's novella Cabal, the film tells the story of Boone, a tormented man drawn to the subterranean world of Midian—a hidden city of monsters, outcasts, and literal night-breed. It wants to be a dark fairytale, a slasher, and a misunderstood superhero origin story all at once. And it kind of is... but not in a good way. Serial killer subplots rub awkwardly against messianic chosen-one arcs, while police shootouts interrupt poetic monster mythology. It's like watching Hellraiser crash into X-Men, then take a wrong turn through Copland. Still, if you're a fan of practical effects and monster lore, Nightbreed is a visual banquet. The creature makeup is top-tier—each Nightbreed has their own unique look and feel, some terrifying, some oddly beautiful, all memorable. The world of Midian is fascinating in concept, with real potential to launch a whole franchise of supernatural antiheroes (which it almost did). But anchoring all of this is Boone—a man so passive and charisma-deprived it's a wonder the monsters didn't just vote for someone else. His transformation from haunted man to reluctant savior is so subdued it barely registers, making it hard to care when the bullets start flying and Midian burns. Nightbreed deserves credit for aiming high, but its soaring ambitions are clipped by structural chaos and a limp lead. Watch it for the monsters, the mood, and the Elfman score—but don't expect a satisfying story to match the spectacle.

If you think about the 1920s in the United States, a few things might come to mind—jazz, prohibition, Babe Ruth, and, right at the end, the Wall Street Crash. And if you think of crime, you probably think of Al Capone, bootlegging, and fast-talking wise guys with Tommy guns. But the 1920s were also in some ways the nation's introduction to crimes that could shock and horrify the entire country. Leopold and Loeb's thrill killing, the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby, the utter horror of child-killer and cannibal Albert Fish. And possibly the most prolific killer of the decade was a man whose strange desires sent him on a trail of murder all across a continent.Join Katie and Whitney, plus the hosts of Last Podcast on the Left, Sinisterhood, and Scared to Death, on the very first CRIMEWAVE true crime cruise! In this emotionally charged episode of The Guilty Files: Revisited, Brian and Dani take on one of the most haunting and high-profile true crime cases of the last decade: the disappearance and murder of Gabby Petito. From the outside, Gabby's story looked like a dream life shared through van-life vlogs and Instagram-perfect snapshots. But as Brian and Dani dig deeper into the case file, they expose the far more disturbing truth beneath the curated lens of social media. What begins as a chronological walk-through of Gabby and Brian Laundrie's cross-country trip quickly turns into a sobering examination of the red flags, missed intervention opportunities, and systemic failures that paved the way to tragedy.Brian brings his procedural lens to the infamous Moab police stop, offering a critical look at how law enforcement misread clear signs of domestic violence—and how that single decision might have changed the entire outcome. Dani, on the other hand, peels back the psychological layers of coercive control and emotional abuse, showing just how often the warning signs are hidden in plain sight, if only we're willing to look.Together, they reflect on the media frenzy that surrounded the case—how internet sleuths, true crime TikTok, and mainstream outlets turned Gabby's disappearance into a national obsession. They ask hard questions about who gets attention when they go missing, and who's left in silence. This episode isn't just about Gabby's death—it's about the systems that failed her, the warning signs society ignores, and the echo chamber that sometimes does more harm than good. It's about what it means to truly see someone who's crying out for help in all the ways she can, without ever raising her voice. For Brian, it's a case that exemplifies everything wrong with how we handle domestic calls in the field. For Dani, it's a devastating reminder of how normalized emotional abuse has become, and how easily it gets dismissed until it's too late. Listeners are reminded that this episode contains sensitive content, including discussion of domestic violence and intimate partner homicide.Stay until the end for an exclusive teaser of the Behind the Badge bonus segment on Patreon, where Brian and Dani share their own personal stories of domestic calls that still haunt them to this day.

Criminal defense attorney Julia Jayne joins Kate to discuss two major developments in high-profile criminal cases. First, the verdict in the trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs — a mixed decision that acquitted him of racketeering and sex trafficking, but convicted him on two Mann Act charges. "Workers and drug dealers and dancers came and went, many with few ties to the state and no one to notice if they went missing..."In the early 1980s, a quiet pattern had begun to form: women were disappearing in the region surrounding Anchorage. Many had come to Alaska in order to escape their problems or to otherwise have a fresh start in the "Last Frontier." But amidst a transient population, these women's disappearances were shrugged off, presumed to have simply gotten lost in the shuffle.Following the discovery of a few bodies, however, investigators with the Anchorage Police Department and Alaska State Troopers started to make connections between victims. Despite being separated by time and distance, these young women had seemingly been hunted by a serial killer with ritualistic tendencies...Part one of fourResearch, writing, hosting, and production by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

I saw a meme one time that said, “It's funny how sometimes the people you'd take a bullet for are the ones behind the trigger.” Most of the time that's just a metaphor, a way to describe the way it feels when a loved one betrays you. But not always. Sometimes betrayals come written in blood—and more often than not, from somebody you loved and trusted. You couldn't find a clearer example of that than this week's case, a story where two of the most powerful forces in the world—love and greed—clash, and three innocent people end up paying the price.Join Katie and Whitney, plus the hosts of Last Podcast on the Left, Sinisterhood, and Scared to Death, on the very first CRIMEWAVE true crime cruise! In March and April 2009, a man's dismembered remains were scattered across two counties in England. The “jigsaw man,” as the media called the victim, was identified as 49-year-old Jeffrey Howe. The main suspect was his roommate and “best friend,” Stephen Marshall. Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss Stephen Marshall. Jeffrey Howe thought he was helping out Stephen Marshall and his girlfriend, Sarah Bush, by allowing them both to stay in his home. But Jeffrey soon realized he had made a mistake because the pair ate up his food and contributed little. This week , in Parkersburg, West Virginia, what looks like a simple drug murder, at first, turns out to be anything but that. It turns out to be the work of a psychotic serial killer, who loves nothing more than cutting people into pieces, and even leaving heads displayed for maximum effect. He commits many more murders, and when he's finally caught, he scares even the most hardened detectives with his cold blooded violence!! Along the way, we find out that you can get a mansion in West Virginia at regular house prices, that if you see a head on your nightstand, you shouldn't look at anything else, before running from the house, and that some people's depravity is deeper than we can imagine!!
