The thing about serial killers is that it seems so obvious to us after the fact, right? Their behavior is so outrageous and so antisocial that we're always left wondering why no one noticed. Eli Stutzman's strange behavior was written off by everyone that knew him. He was quiet and odd, but being raised Amish, who could blame him? In Part 4 of this multi-part docu-series, award winning host Kelly Jennings brings you the complex cases of Eugenie Boisfontaine and Randi Mebruer. Eugenie, a graduate student at Louisiana State University, disappeared in 1997 while jogging around the LSU Lakes.Kelly then digs deep into this still unsolved case to attempt to piece together the theory that Derrick Todd Lee was responsible. Michele Chapman, one of the brave teens from part 3 of this series, resurfaces years later as she positively identifies lee via photographic lineup. Lee was never charged however due to the statute of limitations running out on the charge but it is worth noting that he was identified prior to five more victims being linked to DTL and a missed opportunity to stop Lee before his murder count would increase. KJ then dives into the tragic dissappearance of Randi Mebruer who, in April of 1998 disappeared from her home in Zachary, Louisiana leaving her young son behind.The crime scene painted a picture of violence and detectives years later would link Derrick Todd Lee (DTL) to her murder by DNA.  Randi Mebruer would become Lee's second confirmed murder victim.Derrick Todd Lee (DTL) terrorized the Baton Rouge and Lafayette Louisiana. Comedian Simon Amstell said, “If you are somebody who is going to at some point be revealed as not like everyone else, then to be in an insular community is a problem.” Here Amstell was discussing how it felt growing up gay and going to a religious school. Insular religious communities shut themselves off from the world in order to keep their views unchanged by the outside. It's extremely effective. The Amish are one such community. Most of their followers aren't allowed to use electricity or have indoor plumbing. They view modern conveniences as threatening to their religious beliefs, which are at the center of their lives. Today's case is about an Amish man who never quite fit in with his brethren. His sexuality, his disposition, and his work ethic all flew in the face of what his community believed. Nancy Salzman, former president of Executive Success Programs (ESP)—a company offering personal and professional development programs designed to help people discover, develop, and utilize more of their untapped potential—joins Kate for the first of a two-part conversation. In 1998, she and Keith Raniere co-founded ESP, which Raniere later expanded into the broader umbrella organization NXIVM. He presented NXIVM as an elite self-improvement and leadership training company, but it ultimately became a vehicle for manipulation, coercive control, and the secretive subgroup DOS that led to his federal conviction. Nancy was sentenced in 2021 to 42 months in federal prison for racketeering-related charges connected to her role in the organization.
