Today on the podcast I speak to Steve Petrunak and Berta Sabrio. Steve is the President of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and Berta Sabrio is the Vice President of Programming and Planning for NPM. Steve, Berta and I sat down and reflected on the ways NPM has changed in the last 3 months, and how this is only a starting point for the association. So sit back, grab a cup of coffee and sit with us as we reflect on the next steps for NPM.
Today’s episode hopes to give you some insight into the thoughts and hearts of pastoral musicians across the country right now. We’ll hear from different Dioceses, from publishers and copyright licensing companies, and lastly, we’ll hear from our NPM president, Steve Petrunak. This is a hefty episode because we wanted to make it chock full of stories, perspectives, and practical tips for you to apply in your music ministry. And besides, we all have plenty of time right now anyway, so sit back, relax and listen to our special episode ahead.
Today on the podcast we have NPM president Steve Petrunak. Steve and I sat down and talked about the State of the Union, if you will, for NPM, and not just about NPM 2.0. If you only listen to one podcast episode of the month, this should be it. And forward the podcast to other NPM members you know, because we’re proud to learn of some of these announcements firsthand on the podcast today. It is an episode you shouldn’t miss.
Hear from Deacon Mark Simpson, who will be ordained a priest this May, and Steve Petrunak, President and CEO of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM), as we discuss how to be all things to everyone in a Church with a variety of musical tastes and traditions. Some songs featured in the original broadcast have been removed in compliance with Copyright Law.
When we started publishing this podcast, our first guest was Steve Petrunak, the president of NPM. Now, we are ending our first year of weekly programs with another leader in our organization, our episcopal moderator. What’s an episcopal moderator do, you ask? Great question. We discussed the role with Bishop Mark Seitz of El Paso, Texas, the current liaison between NPM and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. We also discussed the current credibility crisis facing the Church, sex abuse, and the role pastoral musicians can play in bringing forth healing. We’ll hear all of this in today’s interview, and we’ll also hear from author Bill Huebsch about teaching grace to others in this week’s “Ministry Moment.”
When we began this podcast, our first episode was published on the first Monday of Lent. Our guest for that show was Steve Petrunak, the president of NPM. In that episode we spoke about Steve’s vision for NPM, some of the projects that were in the works, and more. Now, thirty-one episodes later, we’re welcoming Steve back to the show. But, this time, Steve isn’t here to provide an update. In his time as president, NPM has faced a variety of changes both within the organization and without. These changes have sparked new strategies and initiatives, sure, but have also caused questioning and introspection. So, today, we’ll speak with Steve about one of the basic building blocks of any organization: membership. How should we, the members of NPM, think about the organization? How to we relate to it? How should it serve our needs?
